I love this place.....hope they can get a liquor license some day....would be a great hangout spot for drinks and oysters after work.

Even though I've traveled the world and ate at the fanciest restaurants in Rome, Paris, Moscow, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Santiago, LA, Las Vegas and New York, I'm a meat and potatoes type of guy. I wanted to take my wife somewhere nice for her birthday. She loves seafood so I chose this place, per the great reviews. I made a reservation on the restaurant's website and a friendly employee promptly called me to confirm. I requested a table as private as possible, and upon arrival, we were seated at a great table against the wall. Within minutes, the owner (Jim?) came to our table to wish my wife a happy birthday and ask me if this table was good. Very impressive. Little things like this make a big difference. Before talking about the food, I can tell you that the service overall is so impressive and on point that they could almost be serving flip flops for dinner and you'd still be impressed. The food is basically all seafood. Oysters seem to be a specialty. I thought I had seen a steak on their menu online and had my mind set on that, but the steak wasn't on the menu at the restaurant. A bit of a bummer, but the owner ran over all the items on the menu in such a way that it made everything sound delicious. We opted for the meatballs, which were great. Next we picked the fideos and shrimp. The fideos were delightful! The sauce that the shrimp came in was amazing. We asked for extra bread to soak up the sauce. We finished with a shared order of the gnocchi, which I have to admit I didn't care for. The mushrooms were tasty but the gnocchi itself was bland. I'm not a huge seafood fan and came here purely to impress and satisfy my wife on her birthday, and she loved the food and experience. If you're a seafood aficionado, especially oysters, you definitely HAVE to go here. As far as the quality of the food and service go, this is the closest I've come to an authentic Parisian experience outside of Paris. Casual, yet incredibly sophisticated. Top shelf cuisine, yet not snooty. Staff that work as a well oiled team. Not cheap, but I don't mind paying for the experience. A special place for sure. read more

I used to love ATH, so was excited about trying this sister restaurant. Ambiance is a little cold, food is ok. Impressive oyster selection. Service, however, was so underwhelming, borderline pretentious. If you're looking for yummy seafood and an excellent oyster selection, make the trip to Princeton and check out Blue Point Grill. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Cranford. I recently lived in San Francisco, and this restaurant has that type of feel. Great atmosphere, a long bar where you can sit, eat your meal and take in the hustle and bustle of the kitchen, and BYOB (my favorite aspect of NJ). You have to love fish, but this is a great oyster bar with such an interesting menu. The owner is very present, and checked in on us during our meal. I love this place! read more

Went on Valentine's day for our first visit. Small plates and raw bar, plus pasta dishes and several (expensive) entrees. Each dish was superb. Friendly and attentive wait staff. BYOB. Lovely evening. Only down side is that the bill adds up quickly; this is not a "value" place. read more

This was my first time at 100 Steps and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We started with the oyster sampler and I was impressed with the freshness of the oysters. We also had a number of first course small plates including the Crudo of the Day, tacos, octopus and smoked salmon. We all enjoyed the octopus and salmon. My sister found the Halibut Catch of the Day very satisfying. Her boyfriend had the mussels. I loved the mussel sauce and used the bread provided to dip. It was delicious! read more

Tries hard, but finds subject difficult. My friend and I went to have her birthday lunch here on a Friday afternoon. For at least an hour we were the only table in the restaurant, later two more tables arrived. That being said you would think The service would've been all over us but sometime she was nonexistent. A word of advice when you can see into the kitchen you should be probably be watching what you're doing. And not stabbing through my scallops as if they were french fries on the boardwalk. The oysters were delicious and properly shucked, which is one of my pet peeve's at a restaurant that serves a oysters. These were perfect. The daily ceviche was very tasty. But then we got the entrée which were my completely stabbed through scallops on a plate with hard as a rock, grilled peaches. Come on chef!! You knew as soon as you picked up that rock hard peach and held it in your hand and cut it, that it was not ripe! not even close!not in anybody's universe but you still grilled it and served it on a plate. Wtf? When a dish, whether it's an appetizer, entrée, or dessert, only has two or three components, those individual components have to be the best freaking examples that you could possibly get your hands on. This to me was an epic failure, when a dish is called "scallops and grilled peaches." The reason you get three stars instead of two was because your oysters were shucked properly. read more

Great spot to change up our usual dinner out. We had a great meal Saturday night as we snagged last minute reservations. The service is friendly and attentive. Everyone there was just plain nice and you can tell it's very well managed. We have been desperately looking for a great oyster place. We came up on 100 Steps Supper Club. We are so happy we did! The food is excellent and consistent. I love that they have seasonal menus, so it keeps changing with a few exceptions. We are also very happy with the service every time we go there! The manager is extremely friendly and accommodating and the staff is wonderful. Everybody does their best. It is our new favorite place!!! read more

we visited this place yesterday for happy hour and stayed for dinner, we just wanted to see if the dinner is as good as happy hour dishes. So oysters were delicious, we also try three ceviche they were good but verrrrry small for $ 14 each :(. DO NOT bother with octopus only 2*. If you want excellent octopus " pizza and hand made pasta try " Pizza Porta " Asbury park. 100 STEPS have good hand made pasta too but the TINY PORTION is not enough even for woman. SERVICE WAS REALY GOOD, AND WE LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE THERE. we will be back to try more dishes there. read more

I went on a date here and sat at the bar. The best part about this place was the ambiance. Cozy, cool, and casual. Emphasis on cool. They gave us these flavored oyster crackers instead of bread, which was unique and different. I got the 'appetizer' portion of pasta, but that was just enough! Nice restaurant space! Great raw bar options! I would give them 5 stars for service as well, our waiter was very good and the maître d was extremely attentive! Unfortunately I think the food fell short for both my husband and I. The Parker rolls they bring out were by far the highlight of the meal, they were the best I have ever had! To start my husband had the octopus tostada which I sampled, it was very good! I had a salad which was flavorful and fresh as well. My husband had the short ribs which he enjoyed but said they weren't the best he's ever had. Unfortunately I ordered the mushroom pasta and the sumac cream was so overpowering that it did not taste one bit like mushrooms. To their credit, the menu did say sumac cream yet the whole dish tasted uniquely like sumac and I just did not enjoy it at all. They kindly offered to make something else but by then I was just ready to leave so instead they very kindly removed the pasta dish from our bill. This was an excellent experience from start to finish.When we were first sat the hostess immediately asked us what we wanted to drink to get us started followed by the owner Jim coming over to go through the menu and specials with us which i thought was a really nice touch.i started with some of the beausoliel oysters which were phenominal and my date had the shrimp cocktail which was also very good.We then had the shrimp appetizer and the meatball appetizers both excellent.They then brought some of their house made parker rolls which were utterly amazing.On to the entrees my date had the short ribs with a sweet potato sauce and i had the spanish mackarel which was amazing.For dessert we had the caramel banna pudding which was probably the most incredible dessert either of us had ever tried and a special they had which was a toffee cake with salted caramel sauce and some homeade sesame ice cream on the side.Service the whole time was incredible and on point and the whole affair was well worth the hour plus drive and will definately without a doubt be back in the future read more

Honestly speaking, I'm addicted to freshest oysters which has kept changing with freshest and most delicious oyster at "every single date" and their special. Today's Mahi Mahi is perfectly cooked, not over heated, not spoiled with too much flavor with source. Delicate Mahi Mahi texture and flavor was amazingly pulled out. Thank you again! read more

Jim and Andrea are terrific people, and the quality of what they serve here, like a toute heure, is outstanding. However, I think many will find it to be overpriced as I did. We had a nice cheese plate app, 3 pretty small pieces of cheese with a taste of chutney for $26! I've been to some NYC restaurants with larger cheese plates that were more modestly priced. We had an enjoyable meal, both the beef stew and chicken with chickpea stew were good, but they were really modest appetizer sized dishes. So we had 4 shared dishes, including the cheese, cost $100+ all in. Left a bit hungry. Note that while ambiance is nice, when fully occupied it was quite loud inside, not an issue for us, but surely will be for some. I would give it 4 stars on food, 2 stars on value/portion size. It is a BYO which is surely beneficial, will give it another try I'm sure. read more

I couldn't tell you whether all these 5 raving reviews are on point, because I couldnt get past their arrogance and utter lack of customer service. I called ATH to make dinner reservations for 6 people on a Friday night, to celebrate my birthday. The lady who picked up the phone told me they had no availability at ATH, but could sit us at their new place, 100 Steps. Having frequented ATH in the past, I was excited to try it and told the lady to book the table, whcih she said she did. The next day, i got a phonecall from someone at the restaurant, who told me she "received my voicemail, but unfortunately is unable to accomodate the time I've requested". Pardon me, I say, but I didn't leave you any voicemail, instead I spoke with a live preson who confirmed my reservations. "Oh yeah, right", she responded, "i meant the person you spoke with relayed your message"... "but, you know, she was not authorized to make reservations, only take messages". Has anyone ever heard of this where a person who picks up a phone at the restaurant is "not authorized" to actually perform the only function she can possibly be performing upon answering that phone? Excuse me, I continue, but that puts me in a bad spot, since I have already confirmed with 5 other people, some of whom had rearranged their schedules. Is there really nothing you can do? No, she responds, we are completely booked on Saturday. Saturday? ask I, all confused... I booked the table for Friday.. all the same, she responds, no table... And then click. I dont normally write restaurant reviews, and instead let my wallet do the talking... In this instance, i felt I should do both. Plenty of fine food establishments in the area who deserve my business. read more

Holy moly is this place incredible! I would give 10 stars if I could! Everything seems so simple and unassuming on the menu, but the flavors are anything but. The oysters are super fresh and delicious, the parker rolls are some sort of heaven, and the shrimp....well, those are just magic on a plate. Magic! Order lots of oysters, order at least 2 plates of shrimp per person, dip the rolls in the shrimp sauce, and you're good! Other items we had were the catch of the day and pasta, which were again so unexpectedly delicious. Our meal was definitely one of the best we've ever had!!! Everything that people say about this place is true. THe food is amazing (mostly) and it's crazy expensive and the service is good, when you are able to get someone to talk to you. I was there on a Friday night with reservations. Place was busy. The food took forever and it was impossible to get anyone's attention (though they were lovely when they did talk to you). We later learned that their computers crashed and they lost all the dinner orders which would explain the slow and inattentive service. The food is amazing but in small portions, even for tapas. The best were the marinated steak and banana pudding. The salmon ceviche was delicious but served in a ridiculously small portion. Raw bar was nice but distractingly pricey. The most underwhelming was their "burrata" which was literally described as ricotta cheese wrapped in mozzarella to us by the server. The flavor was just okay and was served with three small slices of bread so thin as to be translucent. Thankfully we got more bread when we were able to track down a server which was no easy feat due to their crisis. Huge plus is that's it's BYOB. I would go back for the marinated steak alone, though. Horrible, oysters served in wrong season.Door whores are rude and ignorant.Their feeble brain can't read a reservation. Party of five treated badly. I don't like NJ, sorry my clients picked this dump. It is one of those places peppered all over with chain aspirations. I did not eat my food because, the receptionist was so contemptuous I would have ended up with biological samples of urine, feces, blood and saliva. Seriously bad, only plus we had our own special wine. My client knew owner and if that's all there is better off being a stranger. I had starved myself for gluttony only to find myself longing for the new York city food.When plates came it made me even less hungry.I'm planning on going to the best oyster bar in September.But for now a really awesome seafood restaurant in the city. And again be bitter, disappointed, expect a a glare and contempt greeting you at the door. Better yet don't bother. My first visit here was excellent and certainly won't be my last. Started with the king crab legs, which were served on ice. They were excellent. Then I had the catch of the day, which was snapper. My husband and I visited 100 Steps last night it it's one if those times I feel obligated to review it. We arrived for our reservation and the hostess was very polite in telling us it would be a few minutes for our table. She offered us to sit at the bar to wait. We started with the cheese plate which we chose using the cheat sheet the server provided. Next we had a kale salad sprinkled with just enough cheese and toasted sesame dressing. My husband loved the rabbit ragu and I had the most unusual and delicious pasta with mushrooms. I tried to figure out how to replicate it this morning- I'm going to explore using sumac in my kitchen. The service was amazing from start to finish, our server was enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the menu. I'd rate this experience I'll there with Blue Hill, Mas Farmhouse and Ninety Acres but without the pretension and, of course, it's BYO. So spend your money on a glorious Cab from home and enjoy. read more
