As a local who is a regular since the current owner bought the business (1997) I always , without fail , recommended this place to any and all who will listen. Saw the article from SFGate about the drive-in so stopped in our next trip up North. Everything was wonderful! We got cheeseburgers, waffle fries (seasoned like curly fries- yum!) and a 1/2 & 1/2 order of cream cheese wontons and jalapeño wontons (served with your choice of sweet & sour or ranch). Fries come with your choice of ketchup or ranch. The burger buns were so fresh and soft. And their meat patties are nicely seasoned and not overcooked- perfection. If you're in Willits and craving a classic burger joint experience, 101 Drive In is it. It's small, it's local, and the menu is huge. I got the veggie burger and onion rings--burger was solid but the bun was honestly the best part. The onion rings were crispy and perfect, and their ranch is extra good. TLDR- Keep on driving - there are many better burgers down the raod... This is a cute spot, and gives classic roadside vibes. At best it is a fair burger, but waiting on their little patio for over 45 minutes to get the food, when there were only a couple of orders ahead of us - well, there's just no excuse for that. Having a LOT of time to sit around and analyze things, it seems pretty clear that they make each order in series - and maybe even the individual bits of each order - so if there are five people ahead of you it is pretty clear that they make each individual order one order at a time - completing each one before they start the next. I guess that's ok if you aren't very busy, or not concerned about customer experience, or just lounging around Willitts for the day, but that is an absurd amount of time to wait for a roadside burger. This all came as a surprise of sorts too. It wasn't until AFTER we ordered, that the exceedingly cranky lady behind the counter told us it would be over 30 minutes. That ended up being optimistic - that was how long it took to get the drinks. It was at least another 10 more before we got the food - which somehow after all that time managed to be barely warm. Pretty disappointing. The burger was pretty dry and overcooked, and the bun was smashed. Onion rings are good, but note the small print on the menu - you get five per order - so they are a dollar each! It's kind of crazy they are still in business. I have had some good burgers there in the past - but this is the second time i have been here in the last few years and both times had it taken a painfully long time to get food. I will likely never stop here again. There are other places like Picks in Cloverdale or Burger my Way in Hopland or the Peg House in Leggett that will get you an amazing burger in ten minutes - which essentially means, you should just keep on driving to one of those places - you get a better burger in the same amount of time, and you'll have the added bonus of being farther away from this place... read more

We got there at 4:20pm . Our food was served at 5pm . 40 min wait and only 2 people ahead of us. The person that took our order was not very friendly . The chicken sandwich was overcooked , the fries were cold and overcooked . They were dark brown. The burger was much better. It was cooked well and had good flavor . The garlic fries had no garlic and were also overcooked . The milkshakes were good . There were flies everywhere and the bathroom was broke down and not the cleanest . The service here is awful. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and I ordered a cheeseburger and small fries. She got her food after 50 minutes. At the 55 minute mark I asked about my food and only when I said I had been waiting for 55 minutes did they say they would make my food. I was told they were making phone orders first. Finally at the 60 minutes mark I got my cheeseburger and fries. And what a disappointment. We came here after reading a review about how great the food was and the burgers were not great. It is a rare occasion when i gush over hamburgers, there are too many reasons to list. Often it's price, sometimes it's quality of the meat (thanks Sysco) or skimping on the rest of the ingredients. I was blown away by the food at this spot. First we were greeted warmly and playfully which was very nice. The spot was sheltered, had a great breeze on a hot day and even had a bathroom. The staff listened, answered all our questions and the food was perfectly timed and cooked. My patty melt almost made me cry, I can't begin to tell you how badly I already want another. The wontons were good, we tried a mix of regular and jalapeño which were more flavorful than spicy. The garlic fries were tremendous too and my guest wanted to go back for another burger after we arrived back on our the coast. They have shakes next time I'll try, I love ice cream. On our way home from Crescent City, California, we found this awesome hole-in-the-wall drive up fifties style restaurant. They have a large menu and everything looks great, however, we came for the shakes and they did not disappoint and where do you get a twenty ounce shake for five bucks these days, right here! These are hand scooped ice cream shakes and I ordered the blackberry shake, it was the best shake I've had in years! It was loaded with several fresh blackberries! My wife ordered the piña colada and hers was loaded with fresh pineapple and coconut and she raved about it! Excellent small classic drive up diner! Give them a try, you'll be happy that you did! Burgers are very hard. The buns definitely don't make the cut. Me and my family all agreed that the burgers used to be way better and the fries taste frozen now. We also didn't get exactly what we asked for when we ordered. We got white cheese on our burger instead of yellow, and the burger meat feels uncooked/overcooked like rubber. Wow! We stopped through this town for dinner 6 days ago and I'm still thinking about this burger and when I might possibly take a trip 5 hours from my home to get another one. The bun is INCREDIBLE. I took home half my burger and the bun was good THE NEXT DAY! If I would have known I would have bought burgers for the week. It takes about 10 minutes because they cook everything fresh. We had western burgers and waffle fries. It tasted home made (we're really good cooks). The hours vary for how busy it is.
