We spent five days in Fort Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and visited several restaurants during our stay, but this was the only place we returned to three times. Between the live music, karaoke, great service and very reasonable prices, it truly stood out. Our first visit was for dinner with our daughter. Our server was friendly and attentive, and although the restaurant was busy both inside and out, the wait time was surprisingly short. That evening featured karaoke, and the DJ played popular songs that had many guests dancing. When our daughter wanted to join in, I got up and danced with her; it was such a fun and memorable experience. We enjoyed every meal we tried and later returned with my sister and their partner during Sunday happy hour. Notably, it was the only restaurant in the area offering a Sunday happy hour. The menu was varied and offered great value. We were especially impressed by the generous portion of calamari, it was perfectly cooked, crispy, and tender. The ahi tuna appetizer was also excellent. We tried chicken quesadilla and brought some back which tasted better heated up the next day. The Cuban and fries was pretty good too. On one of the visits, our server Chris was attentive, considerate, and had a great sense of humor. Chris took time to answer our questions and offered thoughtful drink recommendations. My wife wanted to have a relaxing lunch on the beach and found 101 for us to try. We were able to find street parking only a few steps away from the patio entrance. We were greeted by Jerry who was behind the bar and his trainee. I decided to have a cold draft beer, while my wife is not a drinker, wanted to try a Mudslide for the first time. Jerry convinced her he could make one and not even notice the alcohol. She really enjoyed her "chocolate milkshake". As we looked over the eclectic menu we decided to start by sharing the Asian Ribs dish. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the tourists go by, some pulling up a seat at the bar to enjoy the setting and beautiful day. We were in the area and decided to "play tourist". Lauderdale By the Sea is the perfect location. The restaurant is located on a corner and the bar is open to the patio area and street. You can people watch easily. I'm not much of a drinker, but I decided I wanted something frozen and touristy. I chose a mudslide. I asked Jerry, the bartender, to go light on the alcohol. He told me he made a great one. I trusted him. I don't even know what was in this drink, except that one of the bottles said white chocolate liqueur. All I know was that it was an adult chocolate milk shake. And It tasted fantastic. Way to go Jerry! My husband made do with one of their draft beers. We sat enjoying the view and conversation and browsed the menu. We decided to share their Asian ribs appetizer. It was big enough for the both of us. A little sticky and messy, but the ribs were meaty and tasty. And with our drinks was enough for lunch. The menu was really diverse with plenty of choices for anyone. I got the Cobb salad, my friend got the lasagna. The salad was big...all the greens, toppings and dressing were fresh and delicious, unfortunately the grilled chicken was dry, bland and not very warm. I would not get that again. LBTS is our favorite dining city in South Florida, but we had yet to try 100 Ocean, so we finally went for lunch. The service was OUTSTANDING! Our waitress Alexandra earned a 30% tip for going above and beyond. My wife's Roasted Beet - Goat Cheese Salad was a 10 out of 10! My Taco Salad was a 3 out of 10. First of all, it was TOO SALTY and I could barely detect the Avocado Ranch Dressing. When I told the waitress, she said, "Let me go get you some more dressing!" That helped things more, but it still tasted off. I suggested maybe I get some lime wedges to squeeze over. Alex happily brought me 4 and that did the trick, making the salad a 7 out of 10. Went back tonight with friends and ended up leaving again. We reserved a table and once again the hostesses had no idea what was going on. My wife and her friends sat at the table while I paid the tab at the bar. They were asked to leave the table and sat a family that brought ice cream from Kilwinns. We would have spent well over $300 and we left. They have lost their luster. We left 101 and went to Vinnie's and we were welcomed with open arms. Took 20 minutes to be seated when there was over 10 empty tables. Two parties were sat before us because they complained about the empty tables. Currently been sitting down for 40 minutes and just recently got our beers. Appetizer took 50 minutes to come out because the waitress couldn't read her own handwriting. The calamari was cold and grease lugged with zero flavor. The burger was lackluster. Sat for an additional 25 minutes after the meal was over before finally getting the check. We won't be back. Terrible experience all around. Then at the end after being promised to remove the calamari which were inedible, we were charged full price for them. The waitress seemed sweet but completely over her head. I will say there was a very sweet hostess that was out bussing tables to help out and she was incredibly pleasant. The manager was also incredibly helpful in rectifying the over charge. I just think that this place used to be great and they just stopped caring a bit. We stopped in at Ocean 101, we had never had it before, and both of us were very nervous to try something new. However, we ended up going in feet first, and boy, was it worth it!!! The food was tasty, as were the drinks. But what stood out the most was the young man, Jaden, who waited on us literally hand and foot the entire time with a smile. He was so polite and attentive, with the best manners we had seen in years. We were so impressed with him that we sat and chatted with him as much as we could until he had to go help other customers. That young man is going to be blessed abundantly and go very far, because he is a very genuine soul. To very important things in the food industry other than quality. Happy hour was fun I had a beer and the wife had a happy hour cocktail. The seating outside needs a little love. If you want to dine during/around happy hour, you're probably better off eating inside. The high tops outside are a bit wonky, the passerbys will ask you to get up/go to the side for strollers, and the seats are not comfortable. Just some feedback, but love this spot! read more
