Some of the best dining experiences are the ones you never see coming, and Sunness Supper Club is exactly that. From the outside, its location and building are incredibly deceiving. It almost disappears among the restaurants across from the Galleria Mall. Step inside, though, and you're transported into one of South Florida's true culinary treasures, led by James Beard Award-winning Chef Allen Susser. The tableside Caesar salad is both dinner and a performance. Fresh, flavorful, and prepared right in front of you, it's worth ordering for the experience alone. The standout of the evening was the Cabernet-braised short rib. So tender it practically melts with the touch of a fork, perfectly seasoned, and a dish that reminds you why Chef Allen has earned such an outstanding reputation. As if the dinner wasn't enough, the night continued with one of South Florida's best-kept secrets. Walk through an unassuming set of double doors, head upstairs, and you'll find a simple lobby with a large red door tucked into the corner. Behind it is Betty's Bar, a hidden speakeasy that feels like stepping back into the Prohibition era. Great cocktails, lively music, jazz, rock and roll, and an atmosphere that makes it easy to lose track of time. Boy was a throwback. I felt I was in one of the "meat-market" bars from the 70s. Didn't have any food, just cocktails and watch the show. The positioning around the bar and the looks between the men and women were entertainment. We went upstairs to the little bar up there with the jazz playing and found it to be fantastic. We came in the back entrance & had to find the host stand. Then we saw a live band playing. Very jazzy, not overpowering. We were then seated & our server came right over to explain the specials. We took awhile deciding on the wine because the menu is very interesting. Once we decided, we ordered a Caesar salad for 2 which is literally prepared at the table. I hadn't seen that done in a long time. We ordered the special- grouper with vegetables there was a cream sauce. It was so delicious & rich. I needed to take it home! Hubby ordered the same. We went for HH on a Friday night. We sat at the bar and had amazing service. The HH menu includes drink specials and food. They served us freshly fried potato chips and we requested the French onion dip. It was amazing. The $11 Mushroom truffle flatbread is amazing. They load on the toppings and it's so fresh. The $11 pork sliders were very sweet and had a fried onion on them. The espresso martini was delicious and properly shaken. There was a live performer and the volume was perfect than you could still have a conversation. The restaurant definitely gives a supper club vibe. Find the double doors to go upstairs and find the red door to the speak easy called Bar Betty. There was free parking behind the restaurant. The entrance is on the backside of the building and not along sunrise blvd. I can't believe I took a year to make it to Sunness. I'll be back! read more

A last-minute Tuesday decision turned into a standout find. After three visits, the consistency and overall experience at Sunness Supper Club are clear. The first visit was a bar stop, and it set the tone immediately. The mussels in a white wine, lemon, and garlic broth were classic and executed at a high level. Served piping hot with sourdough, it delivered exactly what you want from a traditional dish. The smash burger was equally impressive. Two patties, cheddar, pickles, and perfectly cooked. It was good enough to disappear before a photo was even an option. Thick-cut fries complemented it well. Dessert closed strong with an Oreo cookie pie that was rich, creamy, and paired with Oreo ice cream. A highlight was getting a look at the upstairs speakeasy. It adds a differentiated layer to the concept with live music and a more energetic atmosphere. That experience alone created a reason to return. On subsequent visits, the restaurant delivered at a higher level. The tableside Caesar salad brought both presentation and flavor. Steaks were cooked properly and paired with thoughtful accompaniments, reinforcing that the kitchen can execute across categories. From a bar perspective, the only gap is the lack of Italian reds by the glass. That said, the Thursday half-price bottle offering offsets this, and the bottled list includes strong Italian options. Bottom line: Sunness Supper Club delivers on food quality, atmosphere, and repeatability. It has quickly moved into regular rotation and earns that position. read more

What a great experience! I was very impressed with the overall dinner at Sunness. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We came for happy hour and didn't realize it was only at the bar. They allowed us to get the happy hour deals in the dinning room since it was our first time there. The ambiance is similar to a white cloth steakhouse but a little more trendy. Like a place that grandparents and 20 year old foodies would be happy with. Really happy with the food. I liked the shrimp appetizer and the crispy tuna. The pork chop and skirt steak were delicious too. I would recommend the mashed potatoes and broccolini as sides. They have a Caesar salad martini that I was dying to try but they ran out of the ingredients so I will need to go back for a taste. The Sunness Supper Club is a spectacular restaurant! The ambiance is beautiful. The service is superb and the food is excellent. It's elegant dining but you can be casually dressed as well. There is a courtyard outside where they play old movies on the wall. A speakeasy bar is upstairs (Bar Betty) through a secret passage. Live jazz was playing on my visit. You will definitely want to check out this space. I had onion soup which came with a cheesy breadstick. The soup was very rich. I also ordered the Thai vegetable fried rice which came with tofu and a fried egg. It had a nice, sweet sauce and the portion was enormous. Friends ordered the prime burger which came with a glass of Cakebread Cabernet and homemade fries. The food was top notch. The menu can be pricey for the steaks and chops but there are several reasonably priced entrees. There is a nice Happy Hour menu at the bar and high tops for the budget minded. It can be a little cool inside so bring a sweater. Free valet parking out back. This is a great place for a birthday or dinner celebration. read more

Wow quite a difference between my first visit and now! And one that is definitely for the better! The food is still delicious- maybe even better than the last time I was there. I ordered some different things like the spicy tuna crispy rice (delicious with a little kick from the peppers!) the jumbo lump crab cakes (big pieces of crab!) and the lamb chops with the goat cheese mashed potatoes. Someone at my table also had the pork chop so since I gushed on that on my last go around,I won't describe it, just know it was delicious again! We had several people come out and "touch" our table from Micheal the owner, to who I'll assume was a manager and also Chef Allen! It was a nice touch. But the biggest thing I noticed was how much the ambiance has changed since my first visit. Gone is all the noise and the harsh lighting I had on my first visit. The tile floors have been replaced with wood, there are sound barriers on the walls and the lighting has been turned down so now the ambiance matches the amazing food! There was even live music on this visit that just blended in and made it just that much nicer. And we got a private tour of the new Speakeasy upstairs which was so cool! A lot of thought and effort went into it and I'll save that info for another review another day but I loved that it was built around the legend of the Chinese mafia that is purported to have run the building in a prior life. Sunness Supper Club is definitely worth a visit. The food, the ambiance and the service are worthy of a 5 star rating! read more

This establishment deserves 10 stars! My Biffle and I had a reservation for 6pm (free street parking after 6pm, if you don't like valet) We walked in 10 minutes early and seated promptly. Our waitress Jenny, absolute doll and very attentive, we felt like family after leaving. The menus are illuminated The wine menu and drink lists are superb, nothing like I've ever seen. SPEAK EASY IN FT LAUD ? Seventy space complimentary valet parking lot behind this obscure rear entry bearing a small Sunness Supper Club logo on a black awning hovering above a five foot manicured grassy hedge. Huge signage facing West Sunrise Blvd but no entry. Not sure what to expect but the anticipation and speculation grew with every step to the entry door. Two friendly hostesses greeted us and walked us to the classy modern brightly lit oval bar as the centerpiece of the restaurant. An old school steakhouse vibe with modern accents was evident throughout. Lots of activity at a brick oven pizza kiln next to the bar. Several booths with light beige leather clam shell seating against the walls. The added black prominently folded table cloths arched six inches high on white porcelain plates were nice touches. The bar manager displayed a sense of pride with the new establishment as he explained it's unique history. The mixologist showed his skills by creating a few tasty cocktails. Ordered the Summer Special which included two mini petite filet mignon, asparagus with Profiteroles (vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and toasted almonds) as dessert for only $45.00 at happy hour. Perfectly cooked with beautiful presentation. So, I finally obtained some information about the Speak Easy concept. The entire second level is under construction with a full bar, music and one way windows for the lucky elite customers to peer down into the restaurant from above at few different locations. Three hidden staircases lead to the secret venue. The gender assigned bathroom was clean and classy with a hint of that relic charm - the front door of the men's bathroom had a picture of Burt Reynolds from the 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit. These small touches throughout definitely did not go unnoticed. Will return in October with hopes to get a glimpse of the Speak Easy - wont hold my breath. read more

We had dined here earlier this year and my wife wanted to return and enjoy Chef Allen Susser's kitchen again. Still Five Star Ambiance, service and food! I chose from this evening's specials, Seafood Brodetta and we shared a Baby Wedge Salad with bacon and Blue cheese dressing. The salad was good and satisfying. The Seafood Brodetta was served piping hot filled with Grouper, shrimp, mussels, clams and a half lobster tail in a savory tomato broth... it was delicious. Best run restaurant in Broward county!! Kudos to Michael,Chef Allen& the entire staff. We enjoy starting our evening with happy hour at the bar. The mixologists know how to make the libations just right, and the selection of appetizers are amazing. We haven't tried them all yet, but the shishito's, popcorn, flatbread w/mushrooms are delicious. Then continuing the culinary journey on to the table. It's a very open space with a cool wine storage wall diving the bar. It did get a little loud inside the main dining room, but overall fantastic. Absolute hidden diamond of an establishment. Exquisitely decorated. Phenomenal service. High quality tipples and tastes. I've been twice for dinner and brunch and both were excellent. For Dinner I had a well executed dirty martini, roasted mushrooms with ricotta and toast points, entree was grouper with a crab crust atop mushrooms and asparagus. Ended with the apple cobbler a la mode and it was beautiful. I would order them all again. My date had the steak it was thick cut and well cooked although a bit under temp than what they ordered. For Easter brunch I chose the espresso martini, crab cakes to start and shrimp grits entree. The crab cakes are all jumbo lump no filler over a delicious creamy sauce. Shrimp grits were phenomenal and a large portion, loved the thick diced lardons inside. Also, enjoyed a well made Bellini and indulged in my date's french toast bites which were incredible. Met Sir Michael, the co- owner/founder, who advised the inspiration for the restaurant was that of the upscale eateries he dined at as a child growing up in South Florida and missed. We tried their Shishido peppers and the chicken pesto flatbread. Both were really tasty but that flatbread had to be the best chicken pesto I have had! TLDR: In one word -- great! World famous chef, too. I made reservations here for an early Valentine's Day dinner. I didn't know much about the restaurant except that it was new and that yelp reviews so far had been good. We parked in front of the restaurant facing Sunrise Boulevard even though the signs said the entrance was in the back. We walked around the side of the building to the back entrance and saw a large lot with complimentary valet parking. We were greeted there, and a gentleman even opened the door and escorted us into the restaurant from the lot. We came early on a Thursday evening. When we first entered, they weren't that busy but by the time we left, the place was jumping. And the bar was enjoying quite a few patrons as well. The interior is upscale/elegant in a very understated way. They had one of the best staff coverage that I've seen in a very long time. We met the manager, the owner, and even the chef. Everyone was making sure the customers were having a good experience and if they needed anything. Here's the kicker -- the chef came over to check on us as we were having our entree. I noticed he was wearing a SOBE chef's shirt and I asked about it. As he was leaving our table he casually said he was Chef Allen. After he left, I said to my husband, "Wait a minute. Was that THE Chef Allen as in Allen Susser?" OMG! Boy, did I feel stupid. Chef Allen is a world famous chef. We used to travel from northern Broward to his signature restaurant in Aventura many years ago. We loved it. He was one of the original "mango gang" responsible for putting south Florida dining on the map. The chefs used local ingredients and promoted Florida and clean dining. Fort Lauderdale is so lucky to have someone of his caliber and talent here. We started our meal with the Caesar salad for two made table side. Our server, Jailyn, checked that all the ingredients were okay with us and proceeded to make the salad. She explained each step as she went along. We added a bit more cheese to cut the vinegar and enjoyed each bite. And yes, we like anchovies. For our main entrees, my husband had their skirt steak and I had the lobster. The wagyu skirt steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as my husband requested. It was quite tender. It was served with chimichurri sauce and came with a side of truffle fries. I had their grilled lobster. I'd expected one tail but the plate had two grilled tails on it with a bit of citrus. It came with a side of rice with orange sections on it. And an added grilled lemon half. I loved the grilled flavor of the lobster. I'd order this again. For dessert, we went with Jailyn's recommendation of the apple cobbler. It was served warm and topped with a drizzle of caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The walnut crust gave it a bit of texture and crunch. And as the ice cream melted into the cobbler part, it truly was "bliss" as named. Bottom line -- run don't walk here. If you are looking for a delicious meal from a very talented chef along with superb service in a delightful setting, this is the place. It will be on everyone's "must try" list and reservations will get harder to come by. They haven't even advertised yet, just opened. PS They have a happy hour, too in the bar area. We were early customers here for dinner. I was considering the Dine out Fort Lauderdale menu but then decided after the robust charcuterie board that i was almost full! Christian had the NY strip. It was good. Michael approached our table and told us about the Chinese mob ownership history, and when he leased many strange doors upstairs with #'s and external locks so they are opening a speakeasy upstairs! Let me first I'll start by saying that this is an absolute experience from the moment you enter into the building! The entrance is actually located in the back of the building and if you ask the right person, they'll give you a little bit of an insider scoop on why. Towards the evening, they play movies from a projector as well, making it literally a grand entrance from the moment you park your car. I was immediately greeted by what I'm going to call the welcome committee at the front door, but throughout the entire restaurant everyone seems so excited to be there. That always tells me I'm in the right place. Then there's the food, and my amazing server Dylan did a great job making all the best recommendations. We ate a little bit of everything from the entire menu and let me just say do not skip on the charcuterie or the pork chops. It's been a while since I've been this excided about my first experience at a new restaurant. I met up with friends for drinks and 1 suggested this resto as it just opened and he knows one of the bartenders and he said she's a pro at mixing. So I decided to check it out. Upon entering the entire staff greeted me warmly and were super helpful. Ended up sitting at the bar (per my request) though there was available seating. The drinks that She made were great and were super creative in their Ingredients. When I was there she we tried different rhums per her suggestions and she was spot on everytime. For food I had the best crispy brussel sprouts I've had in forever and loved it. A staff member suggested I order the mango ribs as a compliment.. it was also great and fall off the bone consistency. I love the concept of this restaurant. It's elegant without being over the top. The food selection here is well done. The menu changes from time to time. Desserts were top notch, including the key lime pie and the vanilla bean creme brulee. I had the rigatoni and thought it was delightful, my dining partner thought that the short rib was good but not exceptional. There were a few flaws during dinner that were handled exceptionally well. They offer parking on the north side of the building and have complimentary valet parking. You can also park on the street which is an option I don't recommend. Nice sides, a nice drink selection and a speak easy upstairs round out the package. A very good addition to the Ft. Lauderdale dining scene. read more
