Hubby and I came here while in town for dinner on a Friday evening. They weren't busy at all but by the time we left they were pretty packed. Our server (very new) was absolutely amazing. He gave us the story behind the name, Katherine, who is the wife of James Beard nominee Chef Timon. The restaurant is a small white building. Once you get inside, it's like stepping into another world. Its beautiful interior has wooden tables, Edison lights, gold table lamps, and white marble tables. Super clean. The menu looked wonderful and it took a while for us to decide but we did. *tuna crispy rice *chili garlic heirloom tomato (ordered bread as suggested) *iceberg wedge *red thai curry branzino This was absolutely the best dinner experience we've ever had. The tuna crispy rice was delicious! We went on the suggestion of our server to order bread with the chili garlic heirloom tomato and this was a banger!!! It was amazing. Hubby enjoyed his wedge salad. Oh, and that red Thai curry branzino was golden. Now wonder Chef Timon was nominated for a James Beard. What an incredible find!! Locally famous Chef Timon Balloo has hit it out of the park with this under-the-radar spot. They have an outdoor patio, but we chose to sit at the bar so we could enjoy the lovely interior decor. It's very quirky and unusual inside! It was happy hour, so we availed ourselves of the specials! First, drinks! We had the Negroni and the Snazzy Nazzy, which is their take on an Old Fashioned. A Negroni is pretty standard, right? Not here - it's elevated with the addition of orange blossom water, which softens some of the Campari bitterness. The Snazzy Nazzy was simply divine. I have been resisting the whole "hot honey" trend, but honestly, there is a reason why everyone is losing their minds over it. The addition of hot honey syrup to the bourbon (Redemption!) took the taste to another level. I was blown away; this may have been the best cocktail I've had so far this year, and that includes a trip to the cocktail mecca of NYC. OK, on to the food. We had: -Tuna crispy rice -Whipped ricotta toast -Marinated jerk beets -Shrimp ceviche -Smothered clam chowder fries The HH / appetizer sizes are perfect - this was exactly the right amount of food for 2 people and provided a nice tour of the menu! For me, the standout was the beets. The flavor was perfection; complex and layered, and the soft texture of the beets contrasted beautifully with the crisp arugula salad they were perched upon. The ceviche was a happy accident; we had ordered the salmon crudo and they brought the ceviche. The server offered to swap it out but we like ceviche anyway, so we kept the swap. The passion fruit citrus leche de tigre was such a great addition to the shrimp and red onion. Fantastic! The tuna crispy rice was executed very well and the sourdough that came with the lemony, fresh whipped ricotta was lovely For me, the only misstep was the fries. I loved the concept, and the clam chowder was delicious; however, it made the fries completely soggy and the texture was a little off putting. This did not stop us from eating the whole thing! I attended this restaurant due to a scheduled Juneteenth happy hour with the Black in HR members. It was a nice restaurant with beautiful ambiance and decor. I had never heard of it so was glad to visit. I ordered the Truffle Parmesan Fries and the Sweet & Tangy Wings, as well as 1 Peacock Paradise drink. It was a good experience. I just wished I had noticed prior to leaving that I was charged for 2 drinks. Since some individuals were at the bar, I had them place my order. Charming spot with cozy atmosphere and good food that, with minor adjustments, could be excellent. We enjoyed some chai espresso martinis, though they were a touch off balance in flavors. Food-wise, we started with the tuna crispy rice, which were lovely little bites though the rice texture was slightly gummy. We enjoyed the swordfish, though it was unevenly cooked, with one side being perfectly moist and the other side being dry. Our experience at this place was amazing from the time we walked in from the time we left, unfortunately, I only took a couple pictures. Went to The Katherine for the first time for Happy Hour bites and drinks. I've been meaning to go there ever since they opened up! They have dedicated parking and the atmosphere is that of a warm, cozy gastropub. The happy hour can only be enjoyed at the bar, so that's where we parked. The service was friendly, helpful, and swift. Our drinks ($10 Negronis!) were perfectly crafted. We had the Brussels Sprouts, Smothered Clam Chowder Fries, and the Tuna Rice bites. All of the food was good, but the Tuna Rice Bites was the real standout dish. It was like fireworks going off in your mouth! I had been looking forward to trying The Katherine since it opened. It had been on my list for a while, and I was genuinely excited to finally experience it for Valentine's Day. Maybe I built it up too much in my mind but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the anticipation. There was nothing technically wrong with the meal. The food was fine. Perfectly OK. But at this price point, "OK" just isn't what you hope for. I want to leave a restaurant remembering at least one standout bite ,something I think about the next day. Instead, writing this now, I'm honestly struggling to recall most of what we ate. It just didn't leave an impression. The desserts followed the same pattern. They looked lovely, but the flavors didn't quite deliver. The strawberry torte, in particular, barely tasted like strawberry at all. The lemon tart was good ,bright and pleasant but not enough to elevate the overall experience. I was also a bit annoyed to see a $2 charge for still water. It's a small thing, but little details like that stand out more when the meal itself doesn't wow you. The wine list also leaned noticeably on the drier side, which may appeal to some, but offered limited options if you prefer something a bit more fruit-forward or balanced. Another small but notable detail: the chairs were uncomfortable, especially if you have any curve to your figure. For a restaurant positioned as an elevated dining experience, comfort matters particularly on a night when you're meant to linger and enjoy. On a positive note, the staff were friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable. They offered thoughtful recommendations and made the service feel polished and professional. Amazing food and solid service! I was brought here by a local friend who has been a few times, so I knew it was going to be a good meal. Started off with a tequila shot to get the appetite going and we went to business. We got the Buffalo sriracha wings and Tuna Crispy Rice to start. The wings were solid but the tuna was one of the best bites of night. My only critique is that I wish there was more! Our mains were the duck risotto, short rib orchietta, and the oxtail. The risotto had a strong truffle flavor which washed out the duck's taste. The short rib was almost the best bite of meat until we had the oxtail. Absolute melt in your mouth. Bought into the hype of influencers and was super excited to try The Katherine but was a bit disappointed. Loved all the menu concepts and the decor inside is gorgeous. The staff is friendly and the food came out quickly. The Hamachi crudo was mild flavored and paired well with the sauce and microgreens but wasn't something I'd get again. The roasted bone marrow entree was a big portion with 4 slices of well toasted ciabatta bread and a lightly dressed kale side salad. The bacon marmalade topping was delicious and there was a lot of marrow in each half of bone. Unfortunately it was a little too rich and oily after having the first piece. My friend's short rib orecchiette was bland and the pasta was clumpy and stuck together. Our dessert was delicious though. I heard so many great things about The Katherine, but I was left a bit underwhelmed. I went for dinner and drinks with a friend and we had a couple of cocktails and glasses of wine. We ordered the truffle duck risotto and The Katherine burger. The food was good, but not over the top. The duck was tasty, though there was little to no truffle flavor in the risotto. The burger was juicy, and the fries kind of tasted like elevated McDonald's fries (in a good way). Admittedly, we didn't order the most adventurous items on the menu. The service was good and the ambiance was buzzy and lively. I like the "love story" concept, but for me it felt more like a missed connection. While The Katherine could be a nice date spot, the menu is niche and for the selection and price point, I think there are better options nearby. read more

I've heard good things about The Katherine, so had to try it while int the area. There are only a couple of parking spots right outside the restaurant, but there is plenty of dedicated parking right around the corner. The entrance to the restaurant is at the rear or the restaurant. We arrived a little early for our 7:30 reservation and were sat right away. There were a handful of other tables that were occupied, and the vibe was quiet and comfortable, with good music playing. By about 7:45 the restaurant was packed and it was pretty loud, with the music much less noticeable over the chatter. Our server was great. She did recommend several plates per person for sharing. We ended up getting 2 appetizers, 2 mains, and 1 dessert between the 2 of us. We're fairly big eaters and we were stuffed with that amount. To start, we got the whipped ricotta and the charred cabbage. The whipped ricotta comes with a balsamic drizzle and tomatoes and was delicious. The charred cabbage was flavorful and came with a lot more pork than I expected. It wasn't really charred though...more boiled? It was very good, but not my favorite from the menu. For our mains, we got the shirt rib orecchiette and the oxtail. Both were delicious. Flavorful and would definitely get them both again. I'd recommend eating the orecchiette before the oxtail though, as the oxtail has a slightly sweet flavor profile that's stronger than the orecchiette, and almost makes the first bite of orecchiette seem bland when following the oxtail. The orecchiette was creamy and savory and was probably my favorite dish. For dessert we got the French toast. It comes with a seasonal compote, and ours came with apple. It was delicious. The entry to the restaurant is odd because it's at the back of the restaurant, but there's a cute patio. The Clam Chowder fries were delectable--they really should consider selling the chowder by the cup or bowl because it was so delicious, (rich, creamy and full of flavor) I would have welcomed a larger portion of it. Our Kale Caesar was equally as delicious, but we were not fond of the Red Curry Branzino. The fish was light and flaky, but the red curry flavor was a miss. It was served over coconut rice, but the portion was small and did not have a coconut flavor. Overall a great meal and we will return. read more

The service felt disorganized--our meals arrived at different times, which is unacceptable at this price point. The drink pricing was also excessive; $28 for a Botanist gin martini in this area is simply unreasonable. There were also several small but frustrating charges. We asked for tap water but were instead given bottled "filtered" water and charged for it. An appetizer came with only three pieces of bread for a table of six, and when the server suggested ordering more, we were charged an additional $5. The Katherine is a cute, quaint and homey restaurant located just a few blocks over from Las Olas. We put our names down on the waitlist Saturday night and were sat not too long after. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and gave us some good recommendations about the portions. Which, by the way, are great sizes both for sharing and to enjoy alone. We got the steak tartare, hamachi crudo, and corvina. The steak tartare was delicious, super flavorful and prepared nicely. The crudo was in a lovely broth and tasted fresh. Finally the corvina. I've never had this type of fish before but it was nicely cooked and the crispy skin was delicious. The broth that it sat in was one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was lush with flavor and paired with the fish perfectly. I couldn't stop drinking it. Sorry to report disappointment with this "local treasure" that has terrific reviews and big prices. Was excited to finally sample this restaurant. Celebrating a birthday. Arrived 10 minutes early for 6 pm reservation. Restaurant was a little more than half full. (Small-maybe seats 40?) Table design a little spare and rustic. After about 15 minutes ordered cocktails. (Yes, seemed long for the not full restaurant.) Small bar had about 4 patrons there. Waiter re-visits and we order 2 appetizers. Both arrived before the cocktails. Salmon sashimi appetizer-beautiful salmon with heavy handed creamy sauce. Sauce was very good-just too overwhelming for the beautiful salmon. The chicken wings-fantastic-best thing we had that evening. Drinks arrived halfway through appetizer round. No cocktail napkin nor coaster. (High end dining?) Both of my guests ordered the hangar steak- both medium rare. Quality excellent/one was overdone, one was underdone. ($49 each) I ordered the "James Beard award winning" branzino with Thai curry sauce. (I don't remember the price.). The delicate white branzino fish was completely dominated by the sauce, which was very good-just was not a good sister to the delicate white fish fillet. The Brussel sprouts were generic and familiar with no distinctive qualities. The cucumber salad, however, was really strange to have been created by a talented chef. Served in large chunks and mixed with the standard "chili garlic sauce " available in supermarkets, perhaps with a dash of sesame oil added, it was a clumsy example of a "lovely refreshing side dish of cucumber salad" to complement our entrees. I wish there was a little bit more information on what countries they traveled to for the inspiration of their dishes. We had two drinks, that were pretty straightforward. Clam chowder and fries, which were surprisingly better than we thought. The bone marrow, oxtail were very underwhelming. My friend and I had mixed reviews on the short rib pasta, I enjoyed it. She found it to be a little too flavorful. The inside was so unbearably cold that we had to sit outside, the service was good. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was full of people. For two people it cost around $200, a little too expensive for the distance we had to park and the small portion sizes. I do not think I will be returning. I made the reservation online and it put it for outside because that's all that was available. WE KNOW what we booked, but when we got there, I asked if they happened to have anything inside (you know... if someone canceled or didn't show up RIGHT?! RIGHT?! Normal question?!?) and the woman looked at me like I was crazy and then responded very rudely and said your reservation is for outside... walked away and came back to point to our table. Rough start to my 40th. Then after watching her proceed to have "cara de meirda" all night I found out the woman was Katherine herself. Good grief and good luck. We made reservations at the Katherine for a recent day trip to Ft. Lauderdale as I had read it was one of the best restaurants in the Las Olas area. While I haven't tried all the restaurants there, this one certainly was very good! My wife and I ordered a variety of plates to share. They had a number of creative dishes that fused many times of cuisine. They were all so flavorful and delicious, it would be hard to pick a favorite. We ate in the peaceful outdoor patio, though the ambiance inside seemed cozy as well. Our waitress was very nice and helped point us in the right direction with what to order. Really delicious and unique flavors!! Tuna crispy rice was unbelievable flavors and textures. Shrimp Ceviche had an incredible coconut milk broth that was the tiniest bit spicy. Parking at the restaurant is in the back and if you're lucky and an early diner, you may catch one of the few spaces directly behind the restaurant. Otherwise there's a parking lot further back. Once inside the space is inviting and the bar team are great as was our delightful server, Shun. We asked for the corner table when we made our reservation and got it! The menu is interesting. We ordered two appetizers and one main, each. The Clam Chowder Fries also Thai Cabbage salad both very good to begin our evening. My husband had the swordfish and I had the grilled hanger steak.
