The special or "dac biet" has the typical variety of cold cuts and pate BUT this one also includes meat floss (shredded chicken) and a little bit of thin pork skin, as well as pickled veggies, jalapeño, cucumber, and cilantro. I didn't like the bread since it wasn't light and fresh, but it might be due to the time of day (late afternoon). For $5 this is a steal and should keep you satiated! My dad brought it home so I can't provide details on their other menu items, but I do know they have sweet options like cakes and pastries since it's a bakery. Ordered (2) Grilled Pork Banh Mi sandwich. I The sandwich cost $6.50 cheaper than Dau Thanh sandwich which beside it. I went home and opened my sandwich. Loved this place! It's a small bakery and they have several sweet and savory bun options. Their sandwiches are relatively inexpensive. I got a regular shredded pork sandwich and it was deeeelicoius! It has pickled carrots and daikon radish, jalapeno, cilantro, and the pork. The bread was perfectly toasted. SO good! I also got the BBQ pork bun, and also the pineapple coconut bun. The bakery is always stuffy - need a better fan system. The food is fine but the way they put napkin with the food is ridiculous. Other places do that too, but their food is either wrapped or boxed, and you have clean napkins to use. This place just put the pastries in the paper bag, together with napkin. By the time you eat the food, the napkins become oily and have to throw them away. They tried to save money on plastic bag but it is too much. This place popped up as a recommended place to check out on yelp, so I swung by to try their meat pork buns and banh mi sandwiches. The shop has an old sign and is located right next to Duc Hoang, which also sells banh mi. Best banh mi I've had in the Bay Area! Bread had a crunchy crust but was soft on the inside. Meat was well flavored and perfectly sliced (#12 bbq pork belly). Daikon and carrots were crunchy, and cilantro to top it off. I removed the peppers from mine because I can't do spicy, but apparently the peppers add the perfect kick. In addition, the sandwich is huge (for only $4.5!) and they'll cut in half for you so you can split with a friend. We also got pork buns and a cinammon twist. I tried the pork bun and thought it was good, it's basically fluffy bread, wrapped around meat, mushrooms, an egg, and Chinese sausage. I bet if I had taken it home and heated it in an oven, it'd taste even better. I 100% plan to come back when I'm craving banh mi or am looking for picnic food / planning a road trip. The sandwiches and breads are delicious, and very affordable too! Our entire meal came out to under $15 and we had leftovers for a snack later. Check out this place, you wont regret it! read more

***CASH ONLY*** My coworker introduced me to the buns here and the Pork Meat Bun is unlike any other! It's unique in the sense that it's packed with meat and includes multiple ingredients. The hard boiled egg, sausage and pork mixture are all wrapped in a sweet bun. Trust me when I say that you have to try it! It's a bit on the pricer side at $3/bun, but it's definitely worth it. They sell out quickly in the morning on weekdays so if you're picking up a large order, you can reserve and just pick up! I'm glad they allow this since it's convenient and you don't have to worry about arriving and everything being sold out. I updated my review for 111 Bakery located San Jose CA McKee Road. 4/5 Banh Mi Combo this was a interesting one i've never of thought they would add the shredded chicken with the combo. Normally it's the meat loaf, head cheese, and pork meat. Their baguette bread is so good it's crispy and reminds me of Banh Mi Cali in OC also their bread is not dried out like other shops. 4/5 Service I got better service this time. The young woman was busy but still she was able to acknowledge me and help me out when I walked in. Bun Bao (Larger Size) 3/5 it has good taste but the ratio to the bun and fillings inside I don't think it's worth $5.00 a 90% bun to a 10% fillings. Value 4/5 For being a bakery shop they take good pride baking their bread better than other banh mi shops and their prices is better than most places. Verdict so after trying Huong Lan banh mi hands down or hands up with a high 5. 111 bakery to me is the top place for their bread, value, deliciousness. Huong Lan bread is crispy but had that dry taste and feeling to it but Huong Lan does put more pate on their sandwiches but for me their can be only 1 and that is 111 Bakery. 111 Bakery would be my to go spot to get some wonderful banh mi before I headed out of town. I had to wait for 45 mins after arrival for my order to be done. The banh mi here is decent. The chicken was a big hit but the baguette was not crispy as a normal banh mi is. The vegetarian banh mi is made with vegan meat. Also, as I watched them make the banh mi at the front, I saw the whole process. They pull meat out from under the banh mi making counter and microwave it. No clue how old the meat is or anything. They do offer other small baked items here. read more

This review is long overdue, but with the recent interior refresh I felt it was finally time I stopped gatekeeping this place! 111 Bakery is right next to Duc Huong and it low key annoys me that people are lining up at Duc Huong when the bread/baguettes at 111 are better and the sandwiches are less expensive! Are people intimidated that there might be a language barrier? They speak English decent enough. Do people think that since it's cheaper the quality isn't as good? This reminds me of a case study we looked at in business school about how this pizza place in Santana Row was too cheap that people thought it sucked and avoided it, so all the owner did was increase the price and everyone loved their pizza after they tried. If this is the reason you don't want to try the banh mi here don't let this place end up like that pizza place! Oh and also, the pastries are very good and they make moon cakes in house! read more

Out of the all the Bahn mi places this isn't the best place I've been to in the Bay Area. It's definitely interesting place to check out with all the different types of pastries that they have going on. I haven't tried one but I would definitely go back to to try one. The banh mi was honestly really dry and didn't have much flavor to the meat. The bread was also too crispy and on the harder side to eat. OMG that coffee tho! Definitely try the Vietnamese coffee. It's super strong as expected but not bitter and just perfectly sweet with a hint of vanilla/pandan? so good! Pastries and baked goods are also delicious. Huge fan of the pandan bread (only 6$ for a bunch) and the egg and ham pastry. We also tried all of the buns and they were all delicious. Price range from 2-4$ and one bun is definitely filling. It's a small shop with all the pastries displayed as you walk up/through to order. Everyone is fast and efficient and very friendly. Loved the chashu bun, slightly different flavor than the hong kong style ones, a bit saltier but still very yummy. All of their breads were very fluffy and fresh! I wasn't a huge fan of the stuffed pork ones though, cause the filling was more of a solid meatball texture rather than shredded and saucy. This place is a hidden gem. My boyfriend and I come here every time we find ourselves in San Jose. We think they have the best banh mi in SJ. The funny thing is that it's located next to the franchise Duc Huong, which we think is overrated. You're better off supporting this mom and pop place instead, which doesn't have annoying lines like Duc Huong! - The combo banh mi is super affordable and PACKED with all sorts of meat cuts. They don't skimp on the pate, which I LOVE. - Love the seasonings - they're old school and use hella maggi sauce too, so it's a super flavorful sandwich - Old school sandwich making display is nice - Pastries are alright, but not mind-blowing. They actually have a decent pate chaud (meat puff pastry) - Ladies are nice and straightforward. Be sure to specify that you want your sandwich cut and veggies separate, otherwise it'll all be in the sandwich. The parking lot here is a bit of a mess because there are a ton of busy businesses, but if you go in the back there are plenty of spaces.
