I have been coming to Mian Bao House for years, not only for their baked goods, but also for their packaged rice noodles. For those of you don't know, they are affiliated with Rice Valley (稻香村), a major rice noodle producer in the Bay Area. My family and I were shopping in the area on 12/18/2025 and we decided to stop by here to pick up some rice noodles. Unbeknownst to us, they had added a small full-service pho operation to their space. Naturally, we were intrigued. After learning from the attendants that there's a 50% off promotion on everything (pho and baked goods), we decided to give their pho a try. Their menu featured a limited selection of appetizers, salads, pho/rice dishes, and sandwiches. We ordered a Beef Pho Combo ($12), a Bún Bò Huế Combo ($14), and an à la carte beef pho ($9). The combos came with a half order of appetizer and a drink. My brother and I both chose XLB as our appetizers. They were straight out from the freezer and tasted alright. The milk tea that came with the meal was pretty decent. The BBH had a couple pieces of pig trotter, as well as an ample amount of sliced beef, sliced shank, and chả lụa (steamed pork roll). The only thing missing was the blood cake. The broth was mild, and had a decent taste despite the absence of MSG. The round rice noodles weren't overcooked and had the right texture. The beef pho came with a good amount of fresh rice noodles, sliced beef, sliced shank, tripe, and beef balls. My brother and mom were both pleased with the taste. The attendant who helped us was friendly and helpful. The total, with tax and tip, was about $43. The value was absolutely fantastic, and the food was actually pretty decent. If you are looking for a good deal for pho, come check this bakery out. Better do it fast because I have no idea when the promotion will end. 4 stars. read more

Everything is 50% off, so a great deal to shop for now! They have frozen dim sum, freshly steamed Chinese buns, the normal baked bread, egg tart in the fridge section with bottled beverages, and cake slices. The store is clean but not a lot of decorations, which is fine for a bakery/simple restaurant setup. Would encourage friends to come check it out and take advantage of the deal. My gf said this place had pineapple buns and since I've never had one I had to go check them out. The store had a variety of pastries and it was kind of late already and still a good amount of pastries left. Found the pineapple buns and went to pay for them and found the pork buns up by the cashier. Cashier was friendly asked about our 5 de mayo plans. She was fast efficient. She was sharing that the mini pork buns were ready and the rest still had a couple hours left. I ended up getting a mini pork bun. There were cake slices including a durian one which I was tempted to get but will have to come back for it. Pineapple bun was delicious. Not super sweet and a soft bun pastry texture. Reminds me a lot of a concha but softer and less sweet. The pork bun had a good filling. Delicious to eat right away as it keeps its consistency. The space has enough space to walk around. Sharing for reference: As others below have mentioned, this business is now a Pho restaurant. The interior has been fully re-done and no longer operates as a bakery. The original name "Mian Bao House" is still posted outside, but visitors walking in will find only a tiny selection of bakery items (delivered from commercial bakery in Oakland) in a crammed, slim hallway with poor lighting. There is no signage explaining the business change, the environment is not welcoming, and staff's first priority are the restaurant customers. Any questions about bakery items are required to wait until a server is freed up. Please keep this business change in mind before trying to visit or searching for a baked goods. read more

I know they just reopened and added the restaurant component, so hopefully they are able to improve this. But, the bahn mi and the pho were really... miserable. No flavor in the pho. Broth was thin. Lots of noodles. Not much meat. No herbs. The bahn mi was better. But the pickled carrots were not quite right. Barely any meat. Definitely not worth $12. TLDR. The staff are very nice. Their bakery items have always been great. However, they should have remained a bakery instead of expand into a restaurant. As a restaurant, it was not great. The meat had a smell to it (as if it's past its best by date). There was very little flavor to anything except extreme saltiness. I would not be returning for the Vietnamese food. read more

I'm a sucker for their pandan sponge cakes. Whenever I'm visiting this plaza for other restaurants nearby, I swing by here either before or after my meal. They carry your usual Chinese bakery items, but I'm not too interested in them other than the hot dog buns, even that one isn't the classic style that I prefer. They carry some frozen buns as well if you prefer the steamed ones. They do sell hot items like egg tarts, I've never tried these though. They have various flavored mousse cakes that were pretty good in flavor. For $2 a slice, it's pretty good, but don't expect them to be super grammable. Their sponge cakes though... that's a different story, they have original and strawberry flavors, I don't care about those at all. However, they do all fall in the Buy 3 Get 1 deal. If you want variety, have at it with the mix and match. I believe the sponge cakes are $3 a piece, but I stopped caring about the price long ago. read more

I stopped by after getting my haircut. I had been in here before but thought it was a cute mom and pop bakery. All their buns looked delicious. Today, I decided to get a mooncake. I tried the pandan mooncake. It's not my usual go-to, but I wanted to try a new flavor. The outside cakey part was light and flavorful. Also, not oily at all. Great little hidden gem in this plaza. This is a small bakery that is not very noticeable. I've been in this plaza so many times before actually noticing this place and went in to browse around. They have good bakery. Sliced cakes are delicious and very reasonably priced. They have what the Cantonese called it"white sugar cake" which my kids love! I dropped by here on a Sunday evening to impulsive buy some sweet treats. The worker behind the counter was very help in telling me what they had available and what their specials currently were. I left with some egg tarts, vanilla roll cake and a thai tea. All of the items were pretty good. The worker asked if I wanted the perfect looking egg tarts and if i minded the cracked tops. We stoped by here after eating at the noodle restaurant next door. There are so many yummy cakes and pastries to pick from. The young girl at the checkout counter was extremely helpful and super friendly. We picked a variety of goodies to take home. Everything was so fresh and looked delicious. We picked 10 items and it was only $20. I thought that was a bargain. So far we have tried the pandan cake and the jelly roll cake with cream. Both were excellent. Looking forward to trying the rest. I went here and got a Vietnamese chicken salad to go. Wow - all fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked and shredded chicken just like it should be. Dressing on the side, just the right amount. Found this bakery after my husband and I grabbed some ramen a couple doors down. We were craving some sweets/pastries and were happy to stumble in here. On the left hand side there was various buns available for purchase. It was all mixed up but had the different color labels to help identify the flavors. The young cashier was spunky and had a lot of energy. I appreciate her recommendations and enthusiasm letting us know all the buns are baked fresh daily. There was a deal at the time which was buy 4, get one free or get 10 for $15, I think. We bought the coconut, purple yum, bbq pork, and custard buns. I liked them all except the bbq pork. Probably wouldn't recommend that one. But the employee did mention one of the top sellers is the tuna bun. Would love to try that one next. Came here with some coworkers who told me about this spot having dollar cakes. Boy was I glad that I came in. They had so many flavors to choose from I couldn't believe it. Overall the cakes are good in flavor, they're airy and light and the cream(mousse) is not too sweet as Asian pastries should be. They were only $1 when I came in , but I've heard since this writing, the price of the cake slices have gone up to $1.50. Regardless it's still cheaper than other places but again this cake is light, and not dense as other places such as 85 degree or Paris baguette so you can't really compare it. There was only one employee working at the time which I assume was the owner and baker, So it took some time as she carefully attended to each customer. Been coming out here for the past two years and they make the best pandan waffles for $2.50 eat them while still warm.. They also make taiyaki six for the price of $12 comes in four flavors taro, red, chestnut and nutella simply delicious and one of a few bakery shops that still makes them. They also have their daily specials a dollar for a bag of four mini size baguette a large selection of various buns individually seal wrapped cakes and cookies. One of my favorite is the dorayaki a Japanese pancake patty had a few of them along with pineapple and coconut buns best to buy four and get one of free. We ended up picking up some baked savory warm pastries. What were the winners? The Small Chicken Pot Pie was exactly what you think it would be. A nice crust and chicken pot pie filling that was very flavorful. The other winner was the Pork Meat Mooncakes. It was thick y'all. There's a lot of meat in there and the flavors were on point. I'm sure there was some pork fat melted inside and I felt it in every bite. The other pastries, I could totally skip: Curry Beef Puff (had a weird taste), BBQ Pork Puff (needed more meat), and Egg tart (I'm not a huge egg tart fan, it was quite eggy). Stumbled upon this small bao / bun shop, while waiting for ramen two doors down. There's a ton of buns and all sorts of flavors from sweet to savory! When I first entered the shop, it was fairly empty and quiet. No employees in sight. However, I continued to browse around and was so amazed by all the different flavors they had. I ended up getting 10 buns! I only chose 7 at first, but when the lady rang me up (after I tapped the little bell, lol), she mentioned that it was 10 for $15.99 and told me to grab 3 more since I was already over the price limit, which I thought was very nice of her. I basically got 3 more for free lol. Not sure if the price increased recently, as there was a review from 3 months ago mentioning 10 for $13.99 instead of $15.99, but either way, pretty cheap with increased price.
