We had not been here for a while after coming here for years. We used to come here on weekends to pick up pastries to go or have lunch there. Staff were always friendly and polite. My daughter was home last Friday and was craving their spaghetti buns. She called Clover a little bit before their closing and found out that they still had one spaghetti bun left. The lady answering the call was very nice and agreed to hold it for her. We drove there immediately and arrived right before they closed at 5pm. We're not surprised that they had barely anything left on the shelves when we got there. Fortunately, they still had some colorful meringue, which my daughter couldn't resist. I came by Clover Bakery around 11am on a Tuesday and there were about 5 other people perusing the goods. It's adorable inside, warm, and well stocked with almost all of the options. I took a look through the many different sweet and savory offerings, I grabbed a sweet potato danish since it was unique and not something I'd seen elsewhere. The danish was wrapped in cling wrap and packaged inside another sleeve, and was not too sweet, perfectly fluffy and filling as a quick late breakfast option. It was also reasonably priced at only $3.50, and it seems most options were under $5! After many many many many many years, I finally tried their spaghetti bread! I don't why I hesitated all these years.....maybe the thought of having carbs on carbs but it's not like I've never done that before. As a kid, I would make a pancit sandwich with wonder bread and I know my fellow Filipinos have done that! The spaghetti is sweet and I enjoyed the addition of hot dogs and Parmesan cheese. I happen to see this bakery after lunch when I was walking around the Strawberry Park shopping center. I went in to check it out. It's a Japanese style bakery with sweet and savory pastries, sandwiches and onigiri. They had two long shelves of baked goods. Everything was displayed nicely. All the baked goods looked amazing. They also sell drinks and spam musubi. I grabbed a tray and tongs and picked some pastries to try tonight at home. I got a mini apple pastry, sweet potato butter bread, custard cream cornet, a custard creme danish and a blackberry danish. Everything looked so good. There are tables or chairs inside. Not even Anderson Bakery can make it fresh. They also have strawberry sando, which is made of fluffy white bread and soft whipped cream, much better than any Japanese grocery market. Although it's a far drive from the East Bay, they do open early at 8 am every day, except on Mondays. The service is friendly, Japanese-style. Every time I visit, I end up with a haul of several buns, rice balls, and a musubi since it's difficult to find this good quality in the East Bay. I placed an order for a 10 inch strawberry cake for a 7 year old girl. Upon pickup, the cake had boy decorations. The baker was able to change it and acknowledge their error. We didn't wait long and appreciated they quickly changed the decor. The boy decorations was cute but the new girl decorations was even better. It had white chocolate little figurines of rainbow, flowers, unicorns, and lady bugs. My niece loved her cake, it was exactly what she wanted: white cake with whipped cream and strawberries. The cake wasn't too sweet and the strawberries were ripe and juicy. The cake was also huge, it was more than 10 inches and can served over a dozen people. My favorite was the Musubi with Spam and Salmon Rice ball. The tuna sandwich was ok. Service was neutral but efficient. The lady working the cashier knew what to do.
