Went here on a whim in search of sesame balls! We were staying in San Jose and were in DESPERATE NEED of sesame balls, so this bakery was nearby. It's a Banh Mi deli plus a bakery, but we were on a mission to get JUST sesame balls! They had two kinds to choose from - red bean or mung bean, and we did an 18 ct of red bean (excessive?? Possibly. But it was vacation!). I was so excited because they looked and smelled fantastic! However, I was disappointed that I didn't get much of a pull from the dough nor was there a lot of filling on the inside (it was extremely sparse). The flavor did not lack though - the sesame taste was PERFECT (heavy for a normal person, not for me though!), but I wanted more of the filling to balance that heavy sesame taste. The ladies running the shop were your true Vietnamese aunties who were gabbing it up with the regulars, and were sweet to my friend and I (who again, were on a mission for one thing!). a small vietnamese/chinese bakery located in lion plaza. I had saw reviews about how good the sesame balls and vietnamese desserts were so I had to give it a try after lunch in the food mall. Staff is friendluy and the location is relatively organized and cleam. Found the store a bbit cramp for those in a wheelchair. They now accept credit cards which i a plus.I tried to locate the sugarcane juice, but I couldnt find it in the store and since I was in a hurry to get home, I didnt ask the staff. Not sure if it is freshly made to order but i'll try to ask next time. I had gotten the semsame balls as recommended. There is a pandan ,or custard filling in the ones without black sesame. and mung bean filling in the ones with black sesame. I prefer the custard filling ones. They had under a heat lamp and bitting into one gave the most satisfying crunch of the mochi and sesame skin. The best dessert in hte bay. I had salso order the pat8e chaud. they were cold upon arrival but I found them decliious despite it losing a lot of the crispy and flakiness of the outer skin. The filling is pork and chicken. Declious but found it less so over time as I brought 4 for the next several days. Ordered the xian jian bing, the fried chinese or asian donut. That was extremely cold and priccey, not worth buyign and Im glad I only bought one. I also purchased some some Vietnamese desserts such as the pandan jelly cakes and the taro jelly cakes. I'm hardly in the area but when we do come here, sugar cane juice is a must! I know many other places sell it but I really do enjoy the kumquat option here. It's quite refreshing on a hot day! Finally got to go to this place....the hype is mediocre. I came specifically for the sesame balls. I was shocked to find out it's 2 for $1.00 (0.50 each) and the size is average like any other sesame ball at Chinese place. I got $3.00 and it's okay. These ladies are so amazing and so polite and would offer free samples and majority of their snacks are Vietnamese extremely low prices and pastries are a must loved the custard croissant price $2.35 and cash only policy. Patê chaud at $2 each not the mini size but you're getting a lot more for its rich meaty portion comes with either pork or chicken a definitely a hearty meal as well as having a cup of sugar cane juice a great energy booster for those quinch thirsters on a hot summer day. We love this Asian bakery and always buy too much when we come here. Dropped in to pick up some pate chaud last weekend and ended up leaving with a bunch of things, including banh bao, hot dog bread, pork floss bread, and even sugarcane juice. Everything here is really good. They are well known for their sesame balls which are perfectly crunchy. You can get them with mung bean or black sesame filling. CD also offers a variety of prepared snacks, desserts and other food. There's so much going on in the store that you might miss all of their offerings, so be sure to really look around and behind the counters to see everything! It helps to speak Vietnamese but isn't necessary, and there's also signs to help translate some of the items like the banh bao fillings. read more

Yum! $7 for a large cup of fresh sugarcane juice? Count me in. The drink was the perfect sweetness and the hint of kumquat made the drink very refreshing. Sugar cane drink with calamansi is . I really like their sesame balls too - crispy and bite sized! I saw that they had banh mi and tried their thit nuong/ grilled pork. It was delicious! I haven't been here over a year; the last time was pre-pandemic. After all this time, they still don't disappoint! The purpose of this trip was solely for pandan coconut bread rolls, but none of the bakeries in the plaza (Euro Delights, Van's) aren't selling baked breads currently, so to satisfy my pandan craving, I stopped here for the sponge cake. There was a short line when I arrived--they offer many delicious Vietnamese treats, but I just wanted the sponge cake. They do a great sponge/chiffon cupcake. It came out fresh and I could smell the fragrance of the pandan. As I waited for my pink box, I watched them make pandan waffles. I walked out of the shop with 4 ginormous sponge cakes. If you want really flavorful and savory Viet baked goods, you NEED to visit CD Bakery & Deli. I live in the 626 (SGV in LA) so when I went up to visit family up in San Jose, you know I'm gonna search for the best banh mi. Let me tell you: their banh mi dac biet--which is my go to for fair comparisons--was *chef's kiss*!! & I went to 3 other places during that trip up including Duc Houng and Dakao Sandwiches. No offense to those places cause they were already REALLY good, but then I tried CD Bakery's banh mi and the bread was A+ (light and crisp on the outside but not too much where it'll cut your mouth and soft on the inside but keeps the filling all together) and the meat inside was flavorful, but not too salty. They also loaded on the mayo and the liver pate, which I look for in my quest for the perfect banh mi. They also have the perfect amount of pickled veggies and cilantro to balance the savoriness. I also tried their pate so (Vietnamese meat puff pastry pie), which was one of the best that I've had. They're nice and flaky with a perfect meat:bread ratio. Other bakeries have too little meat or their meat is overly salty. Besides the banh mi, another "Must Have" are their sesame balls. They have 3 different flavors: yellow/mung bean, taro, or red bean. My wife LOVES the red bean and yellow bean so we got 10 of each before heading back to LA haha. We also got a gallon of their freshly squeezed sugar cane juice. Make sure to get some calamansi squeezed on top! Adds a bit of tartness and balance to the sweetness. Perfect drink for a hot day (or any day for that matter)! Best of all was the service. The owners (husband and wife) treat everyone like family as they are a family business. I'm pretty sure their kids work their too. So support this mom & pop! One thing I do regret is not getting their cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee), as I saw multiple people after me order and receive their drinks. Next time! Good to know: Accepts cards.
