I go here mainly for the Vietnamese shredded pork buns. The buns are hot, fresh, buttery, soft, pillowy, and absolutely delicious. The shredded pork filling is pretty sweet but my only concern is that there is too much butter in it (I once found chunks of butter with the filling). I love this place. It's been here since forever. I sometimes buy their pastries which are decent but their sandwiches are fabulous. Their bread is super good and the quality of their meats that they put in there is top notch. They have been struggling lately because Phat Tri opened up a few doors down. That was really a dirty move. I mean San Jose is HUGE, why did they have to open another sandwich shop in this tiny strip mall and compete with this tiny little bakery? Anyway, 111 Bakery has had to lower their price of their sandwiches from $3.25 to $2.50 and they give more meat and veggies than before. They've also lowered their pastry prices as well. I always get their coconut cake for my Birthday every year. It's so soft, lots of coconut chunks and not too sweet. Lasts for about 3 days in frig cause I can't finish it all! Their sandwiches are pretty good too. There's also the normal pastries such as BBQ pork buns, sweet dessert buns etc. They also bake their own breads throughout the day, so you know it's fresh! You know, for a bakery that I've loved since forever, my previous review is somewhat pathetic. I think it's time I gave this place a REAL review. First off, this place is heaven in the form of a hot dog bun. It's nirvana in the form of a strawberry cake and it's probably the best small goods bakery I've ever known. I've been coming here when my parents used to take me in the wee mornings as a kid. I have a lot of delicious memories of this place. My favorite buys are: hot dog buns, ham and cheese buns, bbq pork buns and the strawberry cake slices. The buns do sell out so arrive early if you want to buy a few. Their price ranges from .50 cents to $1.50. If you're hungry for a sandwich, there's a Vietnamese sandwich bar in the back with all the good fixings. Sandwiches range from $2-2.50+ made the way you want with fresh baked baguette bread. I admit that this place isn't the best looking but what Asian place with awesome food isn't? Okay this is definite, NEVER come here. I came back and brought my molding food (which is growing rapidly) which has only been FIVE days old and EVERY single worker told me too bad basically. I even told them I got sick the day before and threw up and they still did not give me a refund or exchange for my molding one. I had a nasty taste in my mouth for a day and this place still does not give me a refund. I'm sorry but principles above all.. This place is filthy and disgusting and I bet rats are roaming around the back. I once saw a fly in their display.. Um this is low quality food with low quality service. PLEASE AVOID and I also told them I don't need a refund or exchange but I will definitely need to make a call to the health department. Their response was "go ahead", so yes I will go ahead and report your sanitary issues. The combo here has two more items I don't normally see at other places - shredded pork and shredded pork skin. On my niece's combo - we opted out on the jalapeno pepper. Turns out she didn't care for the cilantro, the white pickled turnip, the shredded pork skin and the head cheese (this is pink in color that's crunchy/chewy with parts like the pig ear). Based on the 4-stars I decided to check it out because I was searching for pork buns. I ordered two banh mi sandwiches - one BBQ pork belly and the other BBQ chicken. The pork belly looked like regular BBQ pork which was disappointing for my husband. Despite the BBQ chicken not being warm enough my sandwich had very good flavor. The sandwich bread was great! I used to live down the street from here and my parents went here all the time when I was a kid. I don't think this bakery has changed too much within the last decade and I don't mind it. My favorite items are the plain hotdog bun, char siu buns (bbq pork), and vanilla cream puffs. Not a fan of durian so I don't like the durian ones, but I know people who do! Lately I've been coming here to grab food for when I go on hikes early in the morning. They have a decent selection of baked goods even early in the morning when they open at 7am. I went to an 85 degree bakery around the same time once and the pastry selection was underwhelming. Great thing about this place is that they offer banh mi sandwiches too! I've been coming here since I was a kid. I used to tell my mom it was my birthday (lol, as if she didn't remember the day she endured the 10 agonizing hours of labor) so she'd get me these. I buy them by the dozen and then I buy a dozen more because I don't like sharing. It's affordable and who can say no to these delectable bites of goodness? So I thought to myself, how do I look up "Ching Chong Ling Long" 3 Bakery? I looked on the door and it turns out it's actually called "111 Bakery". note: no racial. I've been here a few times. I have tried a few of their baked goods. Their hot dog buns are yummy snacks for $1.25. But what I usually come here for is the Vietnamese sandwiches. They have a sandwich station in the back complete with listings of the prices and ingredients of the sandwiches listed in both Vietnamese and English. Don't be afraid! I like the Banh Mi Thap Cam or Combination Sandwich. They throw every kind of meat they have in it. Way more flavorful than Lee's Sandwich located in the same plaza. You also get to watch them make the sandwich in front of you! They use the big loaves of bread rather than the small baguettes that Lee's Sandwich uses. I think they also have the option for the small flat baguettes but those don't taste as good as the big loaves to me so I have never tried to get that. They make some of the best BBQ pork buns I've tasted. The bun is very soft and sweet tasting. The filling inside is the perfect amount and evenly spread out so you get some with every bite....not like some other places where they only put in a little filling and it's all on one side of the bun. Hate that...no love at all. I've also tried their special baked pork buns (that's what they told my husband it was called.....ground pork, egg, Chinese sausage) and it was pretty good. Usually I have that filling combo as a steamed bun, not a baked one so it was different. Their sweet pastries aren't too bad. I'm not much of a sweets person, but my husband seems to like them a lot. I've also had their bbq pork sandwiche. Unfortunately, it's not as good as Lee's sandwiches in the same shopping center. The bread here is not as impressive (evenly though they are a true bakery!), they didn't have all the pickled vegetable fillings that I like, and they were skimpy on their bbq pork filling and the pickled vegetables. Our entire family has been coming here for years and we want to continue to support small business. However today was the last time we'd be here. It's Thanksgiving and we understand that we have to wait for a while. However when it comes to our turn to order, the female employee said the guy behind us was there first. We were furious because we stood in line for a while already and we were clearly there before that guy. She insisted that it was that guy's turn and proceeded to take that guy's order instead. I really liked the shredded chicken, but need to revisit for the meatball which was simmering in the sauteed tomato broth. Beware, the BBQ chicken at this sandwich shop tastes like American BBQ. I tried the grilled chicken, which someone stated was American BBQ. Indeed it was! Not too bad. The bread wasn't really flakey and the inside was pretty dense for an Asian baguette. I usually like the pretty flakey and not dense. It was just bread to me and didn't seem to have the right Tate for a Banh Mi. Ever since I could walk, my mama took me to this bakery often on trips to the Chinese Supermarket right next to this place. I would walk in and my eyes would pop open from all the delicious looking baked goods. The aroma of this place is mesmerizing to the point where you just want to buy everything! The categories range from cakes to bake goods and also offers Vietnamese sandwiches. The sandwiches here aren't so great and the baked flaky pork buns are better than most places. But the most popular baked goods they sell are the taro and custard baked buns. They also have them steamed, but baked is always better in my opinion. As a little one, I always ate the hotdog buns and my sister loved the shredded chicken buns. Everything there is so delectable and hard to dislike. One think I didn't care for was the cakes. The cakes have an Asian twist to them so most are taro or fruit filled. I don't care for either one, but they seem quite popular.
