There buns were ready and fresh by 6am! Tgat was convenient for me given I work at 7am and need to bring a box full of pastries for this sale campaign I had! The pastries itself were great! I got there ham and egg buns, coconut pineapple buns, and egg custard bun. I wanted to try their chicken pie empanadas but unfortunately they didnt have it ready yet. Tge most popular bun that sold out for my campaign was the ham and egg bun! Definitely the best when its hot and fresh. Out of all the banh mi shops, this is my favorite! The #12 bbq pork belly is my go to. Its delicious and savory and the pork belly is never too fatty, which is why I prefer the thit ba chi far more here than Duc Huong. The French bread is crunchy and soft, unlike the rock hard bread from Lees. The prices are cheap and they also have so many pastries. My favorite is the chocolate ganache cake. Super moist and yummy. The pork buns are a must try as well. I called in for a cake order and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The wait for the banh mi is also fast compared to the wait at the other sandwich shops around. Easy in and out. read more

It's not pretentious. It's one of the few places that does not use Lee's Sandwich wholesale coffee (I can't stand Lee' Sandwich coffee), tastes better than any other sandwich shop in the area. Not too strong (like Coffee Lover's), not too creamy (like Lee's). Daily baked fresh bread is a must! The individual baked goodies have a price point that is slightly higher than up-and-coming places like Sheng Kee or 85*C, but individually made by hand and the quality shows. There's just something "factory" about the taste of those other bakeries, which is OK, but there's something to be said about a unique identity to individual pastries as this place makes them. Every birthday cake me or my sister have ever had for our birthdays were from 111. I LOVE the frosting, it's not too sweet and not too heavy like many cake frostings can be. The workers are always super nice and ready to converse! As a Vietnamese person who grew up in San Jose, surrounded by SO much good Viet food, I still consider banh mi from 111 my all time favorite. I always make a stop when I'm in town and everyone I've taken have also deemed it their favorite. I know that a new chain bakery opened next door and there's competition, but I like 111 a lot better and love that it's just a little business (not a chain as far as I know) that has been there since I was born (maybe even longer than that!) Came here because I wanted some Authentic Baked BBQ Pork Buns come here and to my surprise they did have it however the bread wasn't as good and didn't have the honey glaze that it was suppose to have. This is a long over due review. So I bought some moon cake from them during the moon festival time as a gift for the in-laws. I bought a box which cost around 30 dollars, and went on my way. A day or two after I've given the cake to the in-laws, they called telling me the cakes had mold on them. I was like what??! I immediately took the cakes back, and told them the cakes went bad and had mold on it. They just said it's your fault, you did something to them. Refusing to exchange the cakes, I ask to talk to the manager/owner, they said no you can't talk to them. I've been going here for years, and was taken back from how rude they were! If you have a business, your customer is your income. 111 bakery you've just lost a customer, their family, and their friends; over refusing to take care of your customer!! read more

This is a bakery i've grown up eating for a while. Big fan of the Pâté chauds, shredded pork buns, bbq pork buns, ham&cheese croissants, .... scratch that.. I love practically everything here. Never have I had a bad experience here.. The bread is always soft and savory. Its been a while since i've last visited however i use to go here at least once a week back in high school. The best part about this place is that its fairly cheap. You can easily satisfy your hunger with a variety of different baked goods for 5 dollars. If you aren't feeling their premade baked goods, you have the option of buying a Vietnamese sandwich which are also good (better than any Lee's sandwich). Peeeeep the place out. read more

I really like this place. Im making it my to go for vietnamese sandwich. Unlike other place, they add cucumbers Which gives it a nice fresh balance. Their bread is soft n a Tad crunchy on the outside. Though I always request don't toast my bread because the bread comes already with a slight toast. They use this super yummy butter spread that has lots of flavor n then add think Maggie sauce... so much flavor!!!. I'm excited to finally found a banh mi place I like. Also they sell random stuff like pizza bread, Ham bread, crab bread n tons of cakes. I thought the pizza bread was delis, but best to heat it up for few sec, cuz it's kinda cold. My mother use to bring me here all the time to pick up cream puffs. They make some of the best cream puffs. I decided to take a stroll down nostalgia lane and came here recently. When I tried to order 2 cream puffs (one for now, one for later) they were out of cream puffs and said they wouldn't have any for a couple of hours. It felt as if my childhood dreams had been smothered and throw into the trash. The following week, I came back with much hope as this place had never let me down when I was a child. I was correct...they didn't let me down. Again, I ordered two this time and with much joy I scarfed them both down as I walked out of the store. I should have gotten three so I would have one saved for later in the day. Lesson learned. read more

I've been to this place a dozen times. The sandwiches here are REALLY good, one of my favorite places for banh mi. The spread is what sets their sandwiches from good to great, it has this creamy taste to it, you have to eat it to know what I mean. The shreaded chicken is good, the ham is good, the grilled pork is good, you get the picture, most of the sandwiches are damn good. And of course since it's a bakery they have breads, my fav is the hotdog bun and the round pinapply one that resembles pan dulce. Was in the area and needed dinner. This place had good reviews on Yelp, so we figured it was worth checking out. The sandwiches were great, and dirt cheap. I got the combination, wife got the fermented beef, and the kids each got the meatball, all on baguettes. The combo was decent, and the kids both liked their meatball sandwiches, but for me the fermented beef was the most interesting one. We all walked out of there for less than $20 for the four of us, and it was great! Cheapest banh mi ever, and good to boot. As a note, they just take cash, so be prepared. But this is cheap enough that you should be able to check your couch cushions and you'll probably have enough. read more

I am so sad. I went in search of a good Asian bakery and I have been foiled again! Living in San Jose sucks when you can't find all of the food you used to get for so little up in the city. I have been searching for months and months for a good place, but it just seems like there are no cheap mom and pop bakeries anywhere down here. My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a weekend. The buns and pastries seemed to be baked differently (I don't want to say they were bad, since personally I didn't try any of them). For instance, the egg tart was matte rather than glossy on top, which I thought was weird. They didn't have any of the traditional Chinese things that I was looking for, which is probably because this place is more Vietnamese than Chinese. We ended up buying some BBQ pork sandwiches from the bar in the back. The lady was very sweet, and the sandwiches were reasonably good. The prices were very good. The only thing my boyfriend really didn't like was the fact that she heated up the meat in the microwave. Also I was not a big fan of the daikon that I had in my sandwich for whatever reason. A lot better than Lee's Sandwiches because their bread is softer and doesn't scrape your palate. The pate spread they put in the sandwiches is very tasty. Also, they have durian milkshakes (with pearl if you so choose). I don't really like durian, the fruit, because it tastes like a combination of garlic and bananas to me, but i love their durian milkshakes. This is the only place I've seen that has durian pearl drinks. Yummy! Their cream puffs are great too. I like them better than Beard Papa's! read more

I used to live maybe 2-3 miles away from this bakery and I found myself in San Jose today and thought I'd treat myself to a blast from the past. I ordered a sandwich from there and it was very good compared to some I've had around that area. The bread was fresh, nice crusty outside and soft on the inside. The bakery is very clean as I remembered back in the day. There was a variety of baked goods and I had a slice of cake and boy was it good. Not too sweet, it had the right amount of frosting, and was the perfect size. After eating my sandwich at the office, I decided to go back and buy some fresh french bread for home, they even discounted it for coming back! :) Good quick food for cheap, and if have a sweet tooth, try some cake or a cream puff, you wont be disappointed. ;) read more

They have great sandwiches here ! I always get the shredded chicken with extra meat, pate and extra butter on it. For the price of about $2.50 or $3 (haven't been here for a while ), it can definitely keep your stomach full for at least 8-10 hours. It's an bakery so they also have a bunch of different pastries that you can get while waiting for your sandwich. I highly suggest the pineapple bun ( don't know what it's called exactly, but it's the bun with pineapple crust on top), and for less than a buck it's definitely delicious. With $5 bucks you can get your self a better lunch deal than what McDonald can offer you now of days (don't get me wrong, McDonald fries are still my favorite). read more

Absolutely love this place.... especially the Pate Chaud... the staff is wonderful... they cut it in half for me, then put it in the toaster oven for a few minutes... Delicious !! Everything is made fresh each day, sometimes I even wait a few minutes for it to come right out of the oven..And the "little hot dogs" are great... Fresh bread all the time... The banh da lon (tapioca cake with yellow bean) here is soo good! The squishy texture and filling is just perfect. There's so much good stuff at this bakery. I love all the sweet buns they have. The custard in their custard buns is so light and fluffy it's like a egg moose. The coconut buns are filled with coconut shreads and taste like a big macaroon mmm. They make great sandwiches here too. The spread they use is super tasty, so much better than other places. The vegetables are sliced really thick too. I think the chicken and combo are the best. So much other great stuff here I don't think I've had anything I didn't like. read more

Im sorry to say this but unless they did pest control here do not go here. They had a cockroach in the glass where all the bread/cookies/pastries were. This is very unacceptable. This 111 Bakery is my favorite bakery ever. They made a great bake pork buns that no other place does. The cream pops are so delicious and steam custards also my favorite. Most of the pastries here are so yummy and bake fresh daily. Especially the Moon cakes are so good and bake fresh here. The taro and durian and lotus moon cakes are so so good! I don't mind to drive from Sunnyvale to San Jose to my favorite bakery to get some fresh bake moon cakes this weekend! read more
