We stopped for a quick lunch and were very pleased with our choice. I had the Vegan sandwich, which was very tasty and satisfying. As a side, I chose the salad, which was crisp and clearly fresh. Best of all was the Reeses Latte, like dessert in a cup. I I had it made with almond milk, so it was vegan, too; Not an easy find in a town like this. The city of Raton in New Mexico does not have much to boast, but tucked right off the main road sits Enchanted Grounds Espresso Bar. This humble cafe slings out a handful of espresso-based beverages, light grub, and a smattering of pastries and baked goods. As I have continued to learn about chemicals and the like, Styrofoam continues to rise higher on my "no go" list. Unfortunately, they pour the to-go's into the deadly chemical. Just think about it... hot, nearly boiling liquid poured into a material that leeches into your body. The lady behind the desk dutifully crafted our cups of joe, and I felt cared for at this humble little stop along I-25. We were driving through and it was a great little stop! We had an Italian panini and a green chili roast beef panini and both were hot, tasty, and freshly prepared. Served with chips or potato salad, definitely a million times better than most choices while on the road trip. They lady behind the counter was the barista, waitress, AND the chef...and with a pretty packed cafe, she managed to be super friendly and even brought out water and a treat for my pup. We sat outside since we had the pup, so dog-friendly too! Clean bathroom too, so an all around win for a pit stop :) If I am ever in Raton again, I would gladly stop in! What a wonderful experience we had today at Ms Katie's Enchanted Grounds. The 17 year old taking our order was so nice and polite. She was quite the conversationist making us feel right at home. Happy 22nd birthday to her. I love these coffee shops that stay open to serve deli lunches. The french dip was superb. The Hawaiian panini was excellent says my wife of two weeks. Clam chowder was warm and tasty. Fabulous food! Don't forget to ask for a room. They have a room that they rent by the hour. One of the locals told me that it comes with two glasses and clean sheets. I am sure if we were not in a huge hurry we might have enjoyed trying her room for an hour or two. Of course Ms Katie would not let us leave empty handed. A lovely little spot in Raton. Usually when I am driving through Raton, the sun is just coming up and/or I have just run out of my first cup of coffee. This was my 2nd time visiting this lovely coffee shop. I'm from out of state but my fiancé's family lives in raton. Every time we come visit we make sure to stop here for a pick me up before a long drive. On top of their crafted coffees they also have a breakfast/ lunch menu. We stopped in for lunch on our way to Denver from OKC. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. We had the Frito Chili Pie and the Italian Roast Beef with Green Chili.
