$14 for a little tiny pour of basic Whiskey? And a weird vibe, for me. Might be your thing but I'll pass.

Just trashy. Bad music, cheap decor, has a lot of potential but just misses the mark.

Aesthetic looking place situated in a safe area. Crowd very diverse, good mix of songs, and Desiree is the best bartender around!!

Regardless, it's definitely the watering hole I didn't know I needed until I finally entered their portal. It's dark in here but not in a bad way. With its fanciful back wall mural (Photo 4), it felt a bit like a sultan's harem that seemingly doubles as an Ottoman coffeehouse. I came in around 4PM on a weekday. This proved to be an ideal time because you can tell this compact bar gets packed quickly. I had heard they were famous for their renditions of classic cocktails, in particular, martinis straight up. What an intentional coincidence as I was in the mood for an Espresso Martini. I'm hardly ever not in the mood, so it was a good thing the bartender was seasoned enough to make a silky smooth one (Photo 7). It was more than reasonably priced at $14. While I didn't catch her name, the bartender was cordial and just chatty enough to mitigate my introverted social sensibilities. More customers started to trickle in, an older profile than the other popular Haight bars. I can say that because that's my geriatric DNA. I like The Alembic and The Mad Dog in the Fog, but this one may have just taken the edge. We walked in and waited quite some time before we saw someone to seat us, let's call that strike one. They use QR ordering at the tables so we found our selection and placed our first order. Our hookah server came by & asked us if everything was okay and offered us beer or wine as this wasn't on the actual menu, he wasn't aware of what type of wine was offered, strike 2. Not only did our order take a lifetime to come out but our beer was forgotten twice. As a joke I started a timer to see how long it would take to receive our last drinks. The timer stopped at 50 mins, strike 3. Overall, wouldn't return as service was subpar; hummus sampler was good though.

This place is hands down the best middle eastern food I have found in San Francisco…read more I grew up in an area with a very strong middle eastern presence, and with that a lot of amazing food from the area. I'm not an easy customer to please when it comes to shawarma, but these champs did it. The portions are large and flavorful and juicy, there is no attempt to skimp on the meat like I have seen in countless other places. Service is attentive and friendly. The food is pricey, but worth it especially with the portion sizes. Rarely have I put so much effort into reheating my leftovers, as anything else would feel like a disrespect to the top notch food I was given. Inside the restaurant perfectly matches the vibe one would want in a middle eastern restaurant. I have ordered from other middle eastern places, but it always feels like settling in comparison.

The negative reviews are seriously missing out. The service doesn't have the same flow as other restaurants, but that's by design, they want you to relax and enjoy your time there if you want things done more quickly you just have to ask and they are happy and quick to accommodate. The whole space felt so authentic and immersive. I found $18 parking a little down the street at a nearby hotel (as long as you leave before midnight), which worked out perfectly. We ordered a few things to share--the hummus was really good, and the salad with lemon was super fresh and light. The kebabs were also delicious, though I didn't eat too many since I was in a nice dress and the tables were more Moroccan-style--low with bowls rather than full tables--so it wasn't the easiest to cut the meat. The atmosphere was lively and fun, with groups of people and even private rooms around the space. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded, but my friend stayed later and said it picked up as the night went on--they even had karaoke at one point! There was also a belly dancer, which added to the vibe, though I think having a more professional performer who connects better with the music would really elevate the experience. The hookah was a nice touch too--they give you your own tip so you're not sharing, and even though I don't normally do hookah, it just felt right for the setting. Overall, the food was great, the ambience was beautiful, and the crowd was good energy. I'd highly recommend this spot for a group event, a social night out, or even a fun date--it's definitely an experience you won't forget!
