Let me just start by saying before I was done eating I already wanted to return the next day. The pho was really yummy I appreciated the broth wasn't greasy. I like how you can choose between thick or thin noodles and choose up to 3 proteins. Price is just right for the portions. Service was good and even though we came on a Wednesday night it still had good amount of people in the restaurant. Pho is my favorite Asian cruisine. The establishment is new, clean and they play good music.. We ordered the pho chicken with the thin noodles. Everything was going great until we received our food. The chicken was super duper hard. It was hard like chew toy rubber ducky. We couldn't get one of our chop sticks to go through the pieces of chicken in our bowls. I had to tell the manager or employee who was working at the time about our food. They we're super cool about replacing our dishes and offering something extra for the inconvenience. There second round of our chicken pho was completely different and more tasty. Lol Maybe they gave us the frozen dried out chicken that was sitting in the fridge for a few days in the first round. I absolutely adored all the food and drinks here! Came in for happy hour the week of Christmas right before the dinner rush on a rainy day. We ordered a tofu banh mi, pho, Vietnamese rolls, two mojitos. Happy hour prices brought our total down much lower than expected, and everything tasted absolutely amazing! Pretty decent pho. My boyfriend and I were in the area and were craving some hot pho so we decided to stop by. It was a bit interesting as it was an order first and then sit down to eat sort of experience. All the pho options came with regular thin noodles as well as thick noodles and option to choose 3 different types of meat and then two broths (chicken/beef based as well as a vegetarian one). We came to 123 Pho on a cold November evening. It feels like a pretty new place! Ordering is pretty easy. You go to the counter and choose your noodle type, up to 3 proteins, and the broth type. There's also only one standard size, but it's honestly a large portion. Pricing is a little higher than other Pho places that I have been to, but I kept in mind that this was in a downtown location and it's pretty much guaranteed that you will spend at least a few dollars more in such an up and coming location. The nice thing is that you get your payment and tip out of the way immediately so you don't have to worry about it later. You also get access to the drink stations and don't have to worry about getting a waitstaff's attention. The waitstaff still walked around and would check on us nonetheless. The broth is pretty flavorful on its own, but they offer the traditional fixings like other Pho places. I didn't feel that my brisket was too fatty either. The interesting thing is that they give you individual portions as opposed to other Pho restaurants which typically place a large shareable portion of fixings in the center of the table. I felt like I had enough meat, veggies, and noodles and left extremely full! The restaurant itself is super clean (something that can feel a little iffy at some other delicious Pho places in Gardena) and this place is massive and there's plenty of places to sit; great for groups large and small. They also have beer on tap and wine, something necessary considering the surrounding restaurants. It's near a ton of parking structures that offer free parking for the first 2 hours. Among the many new restaurants popping like mushrooms in Downtown Long Beach, 123 Pho is definitely a welcome addition. Nestled along 3rd Street and The Promenade, the restaurant is a convenient place for an affordable and delicious Bahn Mi or Pho. 123 Pho have been opened for a few months now, but it took me a while to give them a try. It's because I had a fair share of Pho in my life, and I've learned that the best ones are made by mom and pop shops with questionable grades. Their modern decor threw me off a bit. I thought it was another hipster restaurant with overpriced, re-invented Vietnamese menu, but I was clearly wrong. Their Bahn Mi was reminiscent of those I frequent at Garden Grove. Although the Pho broth could be a little warmer, it was savory and delicious. Mixed with the melt-in-your-mouth brisket and wide noodle, the meal just satisfied my senses. I consider this pho place decent as one who grew up on pho. First off, authentic pho -even vegetarian pho- does not have carrots. Second, the menu has noodle options: thick and thin. Authentic Vietnamese pho always uses thin noodles. Kuy teav, the Khmer version of pho, uses thick noodles. Third, the noodles were hard to seperate because it wasnt completely boiled. Lastly, one of the (female) workers forgot to place the drink I ordered. And after she had 'placed' the order she soon went on break to enjoy her pho at one of the back tables. Please keep in mind that this review is regarding the vegetarian broth and not the regular broth. I am giving this place two stars because 1.) For many members in my party that ordered the regular broth said it was good and 2.) The tofu and mushrooom was good! If you enjoy 'pho with thick noodles' Cambodia town is a mile or so away. Solidly good modern Vietnamese food. The menu caters to a Western palate, with an approachable, customizable selection of Pho, Banh Mi, and a few appetizers. They offer vegan broth, and tofu as a vegetarian protein option. I placed a delivery order, which arrived in less than 30 minutes. Everything was carefully packed in recyclable containers, with the noodles, broth, and toppings separated. The Tofu & Mushrooms Banh Mi was just okay. The mushrooms were juicy and had a subtly sweet Hoisin flavor, and the herbs tasted fresh, but the pickled vegetables were not pickled enough. The baguette was too dense and chewy, lacking the fresh bakery quality that so many local authentic Vietnamese spots offer for a fraction of the price (this sandwich was $9 lol). I was most impressed by the vegetarian broth in the Pho with Tofu & Mushrooms, which had a deep, earthy richness that many plant based broths struggle to achieve. Their "thin noodles" are thicker than traditional vermicelli, but were of good quality and absorbed the aromatic flavors of the broth. A friend of mine told me this casual eatery had opened recently...so I had to try it! The place is in a great location and easy to get to...right off Pine in the Promenade area of DTLB. The atmosphere is casual but the accoutrements are top notch, with wrap-around windows encompassing two sides of the restaurant. I met up with someone there and, surprisingly, we both found good parking nearby! (Inside, we were informed that 123 Pho will validate up to two hours of parking; nice touch and always appreciated!) We were immediately welcomed by friendly staff and encouraged to order from there well-placed easy-to-read overhead menus. For appetizers, we ordered rolls and banh mi. The rolls were fresh and crunchy, while the baguettes (ordered with pork) were a delight and had a little kick. For the main entree, i honed-in on the pho: ordering thick noodles, with chicken, tofu/mushrooms, and shrimp (3 proteins allowed), and a beef/chicken broth. Portions were plentiful, with a good amount of noodle, meats, mushrooms, etc. Of course, there were the expected sides (e.g. sauces, mint, jalapeños, lime, and bean sprouts); I only ate the bean sprouts and lime, but enjoyed the overall presentation. The broth had a good balance of flavor: not salty, fatty, or overpowering in any way; It simply went well with the rest of the ingredients. In the end, my eyes were bigger than my happy belly, as I could not finish the meal. My partner-in-food-crime ordered from the wok/grill section, requesting the lemongrass chicken with garlic noodles. Again, the portions were plentiful and the dish superb. She enjoyed it thoroughly and also could not finish her meal. We washed it all down with water (We were handed a glass Coke glass; nice.) and a milk Thai tea with boba (yes, I just had to...). Often, it is hit-n-miss with these drinks. But here, the drink was cold, not syrupy, and not too sweet...it was just right for my palate. It is a shame that Long Beach is 30 miles from my home, but I am definitely going back to try some of 123 Pho's other fares! I eat here more often than I'd like to admit but I can't help it! It's soooo good!! There bao is fabulous! The banh is amazing! And last but not least the pho is flavorful and yummy!
