First LOVE the food. I first discovered Poke.Co when they first opened. The owner told me "you're going to love our fish. It's better than my usual place around the corner. (Now I've eaten poke in 8 different countries in over 40 cities. I LOVE POKE! Poke.Co is in my top 5. I issue is...EVERY TIME I come here, my chest hurts just a little. I go & I feel like a 10 year old asking for a favor...I'm 62. I should not feel anxiety going to have lunch. Let me explain. Their process is to make these pretty little bowls with a scoop of this here, a scoop of that, there...the toppings all nicely placed. That's great but I like my fish & toppings mixed together and then served on top of the rice and it's a pain to mix it all together in the bowl. They have steel bowls in the back. When I come in, I tell them, "you're going to mix the toppings tougher, please get one of the bowls from the kitchen to mix the toppings together. Today...Employee (Elise maybe -Tues Mar 17at 1:30pm -short w/glasses), "We put in in the bowl", Me,"I like all my fish and toppings mixed together so if you use the bowl you can just she says, " well I'm just gonna put it all in first to get the portions correct". I tell her, "OK if that works for you". because she was giving attitude. I get it...I've asked you to change your process, but whether you mix the toppings and fish or not..."Not your ranch, not your cattle." You're not making anything more an hour whether I leave happy or dissatisfied. (I'm there generally 6 times a month) Anyway, the other thing? They portion using scoopers. So the argument made no sense...AND the fish go in a clear plastic cup, NOT THE BOWL while they make it. I realized at that point, her ego was involved... why? So she does it her way......we get to the end where she mixes the fish together, she starts to mix and I tell her, "oh don't mix yet, you're going to add the toppings." She continues mixing for a few more seconds like I hadn't said anything and tell her, what toppings I wanted. She puts those on top of the takeout bowl... I tell her, "I don't understand this process "... She then says, "I'll go get the bowl now." And does. She brings it back and then dumps everything including rice into the mixing bowl. At this point I'm pretty done. I say, "stop. I didn't ask it to all be mixed together. You didn't listen to me. I told you specifically I wanted my fish and toppings mixed on top of the rice. She says, "I can scoop out the rice." And she does. She then mixes the fish and toppings together and pours it over the rice, (as she shakes her head). I started to walk out but honestly, I've spent the last 3 months overseas and I have been craving Poke Co. It is the best but I'm no longer feeling good when I go because I never know if the employee is going to be pleasant or perturbed that I've asked them to do something outside of their process. I think it's time for another Long Beach poke spot...one where I feel welcome to eat my food the way I want it. Haven't had poke in a while and this hit the spot!! Fish was fresh, and the topping selection was superb. We even tried sparkling matcha which proved to be better than expected. I was super excited to see a poke restaurant opening in this plaza so I knew I had to try it! I got a 3 Scoop Medium Poke Bowl with White Rice, Salmon, Tuna, and Tako. I was really excited because I find it hard to find poke restaurants serving octopus. The fishes were delicious and super fresh! I got recommended the Spicy Mayo and Orange Garlic sauce by an employee. Usually at other poke places, the Spicy Mayo barely has any spice, but this Spicy Mayo actually has a kick, and it's so good! My sister got Spicy Tuna in her poke bowl and just like the Spicy Mayo, usually no spice, but here, it actually does have spice! The employees were so kind! I've never been at this specific poke restaurant so I took a while looking at the menu, the proteins and toppings, and I had a couple questions. They were super patient as well. The restaurant is really bright, clean, and it has a ton of seating. There's seating inside the restaurant, and there's seating right outside. There were no people eating inside or outside the restaurant so I believe people mostly grab-and-go rather than sit. I would come here again! Poke was fresh and good. I got salmon and spicy tuna, the spicy tuna is pretty spicy. I prefer a more tolerable spicy tuna, but overall it's delicious. I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee, which was way too strong and bitter. By the way I usually drink Vietnamese coffee but this one was too bitter, undrinkable for my preference. I did let the lady in the front know if maybe she can add milks to balance it a bit, she didn't seem too pleased. She got very serious and had a bad manner towards making it again. I bought two coffees and I asked nicely to add milk/creamer yet her customer service was friendly. I wasn't about to throw away two coffees worth $12 when I could simply ask nicely to be remade. This is their new location and the hype is still there. The poke is fresh just as the other ones I had tried. I am still that person who likes Salmon bowls with the works and having "The Poke Co sauce," & "OG sauce," these are my two favorite sauces to be used in my bowl. Their customer service has been wonderful. They have shown beyond patience and understanding if someone is new to Poke. They explain everything and do not shy away of making recommendation if you ask. The ambiance, is chill and everyone is nice. It is a nice place to just have a relaxing moment with a bowl of fresh Poke and BOBA. Let me tell you Boba is legit. They have smoothies and it's wonderful; however, I enjoy their TEAS. Yes, their Peach, Lychee & Guava Teas are so darn good. Not super sweet and you can change the level of sweetness. Their Tapioca Balls/ Boba are soft, warm & chewy. Just use your scoopers like every other place and don't create so much single use plastic waste. Ordered 2 large bowls to go for my kids. My daughter ate some of hers in the car and immediately said the fish was not fresh. Both kids ate it at when we got home and immediately began to throw up. I called the restaurant and they said if I take the kids to the ER and the doctors deem the pole was responsible they would issue me a refund. I said no...not doing that. They said if I bring the food back for them to inspect then they'd issue a refund. We live in Torrance so needless to say that would be a huge PIA. You can see that the owner takes pride in his business with his food and the cleanliness of the shop. I think The Poke Co. might be the new spot in the neighborhood. Do yourself a favor and try this place. I drive from downtown just to eat lunch here it's so good. Not cheap, but do you want to eat cheap raw fish. It's the worst when you want some Poke and you get some dank, fishy smelly food. Here they have everything fresh fresh fresh. I love the choices! So many fish and sauces and toppings.
