131 Main is the premier restaurant in the area for those smokehouse smells that greet you in the parking lot tempting you inside for a rack of BBQ ribs or a Chicago Strip steak. It's always busy and the food is consistently great albeit a little on the pricey side...however portions are huge and large enough to ostensibly have at least one meal's worth of leftovers. The bar is a little destination all in its own right because the drinks are classic but with a modern twist. Always great - try the cucumber gimlet or a dirty martini! Went for dinner on a weeknight and we had: *2 cocktails $26 * tuna stack appetizer $19 *BBQ ribs + 2 sides $30 *caesar salad $14 *banana cream pie $forgot About $150 for 2 people and while I don't typically love to spend that much for dinner out, it does feel worth it when the service, food, ambience and bar all align and do it as well as 131. One of my best dining experiences in the entire Charlotte area. Very courteous and attentive staff. Very charming, comfortable and intimate interior space. Absolutely top-notch food and drinks. The entrance is a little odd in that it's the back side of the shops but when you go under the archway it's immediately on your right. We were there on a slow night, but our friends who died with us said if you don't have a reservation, you can forget about a table on Friday nights or the weekends. And fortunately it's easy to make a reservation through their website. Definitely looking forward to another visit. PS get the shrimp cocktail appetizer. I visited this location July 2022. For the appetizer, we ordered the Cast Iron Corn Bread I rate it a 5/5. For my entree, I ordered Southern Shrimp and Grits. It was not my favorite, I'll give it 2/5. For dessert, I ordered the brownie. It was good, I'll give it a 4/5. (Not pictured) I ordered the Blueberry Mule and the Garden Fresh Lemon Drop. They were hard to enjoy because they were strong. I'll give them both 2/5. I was treating someone for their birthday and they chose this place for the peanut butter pie dessert. We came here to celebrate my daughter's 27th birthday. We had Lance as our server and he was fantastic!!!!! He remembered everything. He and his team were prompt bringing out drinks, and any extras we requested. The food was OUTSTANDING and cooked to perfection. We had appetizers, entrees, drinks, shots, salads and dessert. There were zero complaints. We even got a little chilly because of a small draft and he requested to have the temperature raised just a bit. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy. Our visit was perfect and we'll definitely return. This happened to be Valentine's Day weekend but we were still offered a great choice of options from the menu. Our steaks were cooked perfectly, our drinks were prepared with quality and the portions were more than enough. We all felt we definitely got our moneys worth. One of my favorite go-to spots! Even the wood burning smell on the outside is amazing. Inside the smell continues with a dimly lit seating area. Open kitchen where you can see the wood burning over in action. Snall outdoor section that is dog friendly. Beautigul sitting area aroubd fire pit with Adirondack chairs. Amazing cocktails! It is more of a dweeter style cornbread with a honey glaze They have my friends favorite crab cakes I love their salads really all of them but especially the one with seared tuna. The dressing is perfect and goes so well with the tuna. Their ribs are pretty good tender and flavorful They always have a fresh catch of the day, and when i say fresh, i mean they know the name of the boat and everything. Their steak is definitely one of the best around. I personally prefer the ribeye as the flavor is amazing and always cooked just right. I mean really you cant go wrong with anythibg there. Seriously, it was freaking amazing. It was the very best cornbread I ever had. It's called Cast Iron Cornbread ($9), because... you guessed it... its served in a cast iron skillet that looks pretty much like a cake pan with a really tall circular mound of cornbread. It's buttery, its savory, its sweet, its crunchy on the outside, its soft as a pillow on the inside, its massive, its gorgeous, its delicious, its everything you can possibly think of. And to make it even more seductive, its served with a honey dispenser so you can dribble on some more lovin' on top. Three of us tackled it and we couldn't finish it. Just amazing ! I sipped a Bloody Mary ($10) along with that cornbread, and I have to tell you more about that Bloody Mary, because along with the Chopin Potato Vodka, House-Made Au Jus Infused Bloody Mary Mix, big celery stalk, and Applewood Smoked Bacon, it was served with something I have never seen in a Bloody Mary ----how about Deviled Eggs? After that cornbread and bacon and eggs, I decided to go light with my entrée and settled on Cedar Plank Salmon ($27) "baked on a cedar plank with whole grain mustard butter sauce and served with a chilled wild rice salad". I really loved the salmon -cooked perfectly so it was super moist on the inside and seared on the outside. The wild rice salad was interesting, something I haven't really seen before - it was served with pecans and currents so it had a slightly sweet and crunchy vibe to it -it was very good. The prices are inflated in my opinion, but it is a $$$ restaurant, so you have to expect that, but still $22 for a Cobb salad is over priced. The chop is by far the best I've ever had, and is prepared to absolute perfection that it melts in your mouth! The service is always excellent too, although a bit overbearing at times, but still better than not having anyone check back on you at all. With so many upscale restaurants out there with questionable and uncomfortable business attire dress codes, only to sit down and be served a mediocre meal, 131 Main is a comfortable fine dining atmosphere, whether you choose to dress up or stay casual. The skillet cornbread was remarkable, in that it was fluffy and savory sweet instead of some places where it is dry and oily. The wedge salad was yummy.
