Have you ever visited a place and it makes you feel like you're getting a big, warm hug (but not in a weird or creepy way)? Well 1748 is the place to go if you're in need of comfort or a metaphorical hug. I was in the area for a meeting and I've been wanting to try 1748. Parking can be gnarly, as it's street parking, so you may have to walk a bit. I walked in and this place was quaint. Super cute inside with breadboards lining the walls, a few tables and counter seating and a counter full of freshly baked delights welcomed me while I waited in line. Everything looked delicious and I had some problems making a decision as to what to order. When I got to the counter, I asked the woman working what she would recommend: the egg sandwich or the sourdough toast. She said the breakfast sandwich can be a little heavy, so if you're in the mood for something a bit lighter, she suggested the sourdough toast and I could add bacon or an egg. I opted to order bacon on the sandwich and a cold brew. I got my number and waited at my table. A few minutes later my sourdough toast came out (garlic herb cashew cheese, sliced tomato, sea salt, and micro basil). It looked divine. This is the type of toast you need a fork and knife for. I cut it and dug in. All the flavors worked perfectly together. I wasn't sure what to expect from the garlic cashew cheese, but it was creamy, nutty, and delicious. The bacon added the right amount of salt to the dish. The nitro was robust and flavorful and went down easily. One of the best bakeries I've ever been to, especially for savory pastries. We were staying in an Airbnb within walking distance and came to 1748 Bakehouse twice for lunch and to get pastries and coffee to go. Everything was scrumptious, my only regret is not trying any of their sweet desserts, those looked incredible. It's a small place and can get cramped if busy, but service was pretty fast and good all things considered. I visited 1748 Bakehouse for the first time, not at their regular location, but at their table set-up at Riverside Arts Market. I got the peanut butter and caramel brownie. I thought it was a great value at $3. I got a piece the size of my palm and about an inch thick. It was moist and delicious. I ate it way too fast. We were in the area and my sister had heard great things about this place so we decided to give it a try. It's such a cute little spot with many assorted goodies to choose from. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich and a vanilla latte. Let's start with the latte. It was perfect. Just the right amount of vanilla and the coffee itself was delicious. The breakfast sandwich was amazing. The bacon was cooked perfectly as well as the egg. Cooked to perfection. Every bite was delicious. Next time I will try it on their freshly made English muffins as number 1 they look delicious and number 2 you would probably have a perfect bite every single time. Wow my only regret is there isn't one of these in Orlando which I guess could be a double edged sword because I would go here at least once a week if I could lol! My husband found this place and go him because I was just complaining, I mean saying gently, how I usually find all the cool spots (thanks Yelp!) but while I was busy at work and he was at the Airbnb he looked up all kinds of cool places to visit in Jacksonville while I was in town on a work trip. I initially wanted to go to Obscura for breakfast but didn't realize they're closed on Sunday/Monday. While this may have been an alternative choice, it was an incredible choice so I guess the Yelp gods were in our favor. We drove by and it looked really busy but we figured we'd take the chance anyway. It was breezy but still sunny enough to sit outside and there was one little table left so we grabbed that one and I ordered at the counter. I've noticed a few places in Jacksonville don't really adhere to the masks and social distancing but this area of Jacksonville, historic Springfield, it seems everyone is super friendly and pro-masks. Hand sanitizer was offered at the door and counter and all the staff had masks on. The interior was bright and warm. Lots of plants everywhere, specials posted clearly and even a little market where you can buy anything from bread, to potato salad and even sangria mix. I opted for the grilled cheese on sourdough, my husband got the mozzarella, pesto BLT minus the B (that vegetarian guy at it again, in hindsight I wish I got the B on the side but oh well), a cheese Danish which they asked if I wanted warmed up--pro tip, get it warmed up!! And I got him a side of fingerling potatoes. At the last minute I noticed they had pickles and kimchi as a side which I got for myself because I'm a sucker for pickled anything. My husband got the cold brew with almond milk and I got the Chai tea latte with almond milk. It wasn't the sweetest Chai latte, but I'm spoiled by the sweet Chai at Starbucks so it's not a bad thing--the cheese Danish more than made up for the sweet treat I needed! The bread on both the grilled cheese and mozzarella pesto LT was to die for! It was so good, and the sandwiches came with a pickle so I had pickle overload with my side of pickles and kimchi and was able to take some home with me which is always great. Speaking of the side it wasn't just pickles and kimchi, it was also pickled red onion and pickled cabbage which was a fun surprise that I appreciated. Overall, 5 starts for the amicable staff, covid-safe environment, lovely ambiance and amazingly tasty food and coffees which truly just made it worthy of the 5 star rating. If we're ever in town again we will definitely make the trip. Fun fact, if you to have breakfast around 11am, the brewery next door, Hyperion, opens at noon on Sunday so guess where we went next wink wink, review coming soon! read more

I think 1748 Bakehouse has a piece of my heart. There's just something about it - EVERYTHING about it that demands your love. It's a charming little place. Only a few tables, so be prepared to eat in your car or bring it home. I am always impressed with the diverse selection of sweet and savory baked goods. I've had quite a few of their pastries which are made using seasonal ingredients. They also have meals to-go and a fridge full of other house made or local goodies. In today's adventure, we came back for the second day in a row to get galettes and a breakfast sandwich. We ate that breakfast sandwich in the car, and wanted another one so badly that we went in AGAIN to get a breakfast sandwich. It's clear that their food is made using intentional ingredients. Everything from here just tastes better. During the summer months, I always keep a lookout for their tomato pie. It's legendary. Be prepared to walk a bit, because parking on Main Street can be a battle. But don't let it deter you. 1748 is worth it. read more

Oh my yumminess! First of all, how cute is their logo? Adorable. And the owner backs up her food with plenty of flavor. The new brick and mortar will be located in Historic Springfield. The cookies (Pecan Turtles: $2 each) are giant and delish. I grabbed two with the nuts because I love the sweet and savory combination. You get a little salt in every bite. Perfect with a coffee or a glass of milk/milk substitute. I like it with soy, but it's good alone. The sourdough bread is $7 per loaf and is perfect. Crispy and flakey on the outside and tender and chewy on the inside. Just buy one. There's an array of pastries and delicious assortments from which to choose both sweet and savory. And I imagine this changes often as they source their ingredients from local growers as much as they can. I do love that! Overall, the highlight of the offerings for me were the tasty spreads and dips ($6-7). I absolutely love the vegan pestos and nut cheeses. OMG! Yum. I ate it all in one sitting. I couldn't get enough of the Vegan Pistachio Pea Shoot Pesto ($6 per container) & the Cilantro Pesto ($7 per container). I must have gone back three times before I finally purchased because I couldn't stop sampling. The Cashew Cheese Garlic Herb & Cashew Cheese Smoked Tomato are really addicting. Unfortunately, I didn't get to purchase the latter since she was all sold out when I returned. I will get that next time... And one more thing...don't forget to sample the Cardamom Ginger Cookies. If I could eat anything every day of my life it would be a homemade breakfast sandwich out of 1748's fresh, fluffy English Muffins and a Cardamom roll with a glass of milk on the side. Then I'd just eat an entire herb focaccia and I would be deliriously happy. I can't rave enough about the offerings that 1748 has in their bakery window every single day that their doors are open. You walk in like a little kid with wide eyes at every delicious looking pastry that you know that the bakers have poured their heart into. It's absolutely dangerous that they're literally a five minute walk from my house nowadays and I literally think to myself if I could make up an excuse to visit every single day. They also have a little bodega with freshly made offerings like salad dressing and frozen cardamom rolls that are perfect for a lazy Saturday morning at home. The parking is hard to do. So, I parked right around the corner and walked. I have a step/walking goal of 6000 steps per day anyways, so no problem. Upon entering the front entryway put a huge smile on my face. I love the doorway and big door. The place was very hopping and busy. They have multiple menus on clipboards in a basket as you enter. I had a hard time deciding on what to order, as I am sure most people on their first visit experience. So, I bought the egg, bacon & lettuce sandwich. I also ordered a hot Chai tea. The fresh baked bread was Devine. I ate the entire sandwich. I also bought an orange muffin to take home to share with Ernie later. We went to a couch with our number. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and my tea was already with Ernie. Then a table opened up and we gravitated quickly to it. Then my sandwich arrived. Very delicious. Before I left, I went back to the counter and ordered a large loaf of fresh baked bread, and two cookies. Wow is all I can say about this place. 1748 Bakehouse is amazing. I love how many vegan options they have. Their muffins are a must-have, they are absolutely delicious and I could not believe they were vegan the first time I had them. For breakfast, their chia pudding, sourdough toast, and muffins are my favorites. The chia pudding is filled to the brim with fresh fruit, nuts, and fun toppings. Sourdough toast is great, although sometimes the portion size is lacking for the price. Lunch is always great with the veg pesto sandwich or a salad. Y'all. This is the bakehouse I never knew I wanted or needed. I am actually addicted. Whenever I need to bring an item for a potluck, I just swing right by here & grab one of their hot, freshly made pies (they even make vegan pies which I LOVE!). Everyone always raves about how good it tastes and you can clearly see the amount of creativity/ skill that went into baking it because it's beautiful! It's honestly so delicious that I never have time to snap a photo before everyone gobbles the whole thing up. It's a giant pie & there are never any leftovers. I'm also determined to make my way through all their galettes, but with new flavors coming out seasonally I don't know if I'll ever be able to complete that challenge. I went to their brick-and-mortar location for the first time yesterday and absolutely love the space. It's cozy and inviting and thoughtfully decorated - I love, love, love the cutting board wall! I split a vegan pesto sandwich with a friend and the sourdough focaccia was unreal. I already knew I loved their cashew cheese and vegan pesto so the sandwich was a slam dunk. I also split a strawberry chocolate muffin (get it warmed, holy moly) and a chocolate tahini brownie (try it immediately) with others at the table. The owner threw in the brownie for free because we were out and about for my bachelorette activities - so nice! Pay homage to all my local businesses and I was especially interested in local small business that sources from locally grown fresh foods. And Did 1748 Bakehouse Hit the Nail in the Head!! The food here is amazing. The staff is polite and friendly. The environment/atmosphere is very laid back and chill. All in all my experience here was spot on! We ordered the French toast which was made from bread pudding and what an amazing delicious twist on a fan favorite!! The berries and house made cream were perfectly paired. We also got the sourdough toast which was unbelievable! The cashew cheese was phenomenal! And the satires tomatoes weren't too salty. It was absolutely perfect. We also grabbed two pastries from the case, a Mixed berry galette and the Spinach mushroom zucchini galette. We had them warmed in house and ate them while we waited for our food. Honestly they were so good and so filling that could have been all we got!! Neither of us were able to finish all the food. We added scrambled eggs and we didn't even have the chance to try those because we were so incredibly full. But neither of us wanted to stop eating!! Very nice place off main st who supports local farmers. We went on a adventure date challenge as pick a place never been before. We Had to get whatever the server suggested. She suggested the pimento BLT for my girlfriend and me the breakfast sandwich. Both were on a sourdough bread. Was very good. Girlfriend didn't like pimento on both sides of bread other than that service was nice. Place is clean. I got a Carmel cappuccino lady got a lemonade forgot the flavor maybe guava or mango. Oh, I'm definitely a fan/follower of 1748 Bakehouse, and I'm ecstatic about their expansion into the brick and mortar retail space! I remember going to see them at RAM and asking them if they were ever going to move into a storefront because their baked goods were just THAT divine. I'd go every chance I could just to snag a loaf of fresh bread and a couple of sweet and savory pastries to take home and devour during a late night marathon of "The Office" or something like it. The shop is pretty much everything one could expect from a really good bakery. As I walked in, I noticed one of those teal colored comfy couches up against the wall to the right, and my first thought was "nope, I'll fall asleep on that." Instead I situated myself at one of the 5 available tables to pig out and do some Yelping. The Goods: This is definitely one of those "WHY do I have to CHOOSE?" places. Everything jumps out at you and beckons, from the vast array of pastries in the display case to the mouth-watering sandwich menu behind the counter. It's so very hard to choose that ONE thing. So I didn't. I chose 2. That's foodie problem-solving 101, Yeeps. I went with the Pastrami Sandwich on Sourdough (sub smoky mayo for the mustard aioli) with brie and sauerkraut, and the Caramel Apple Cheesecake Pastry topped with Pecan Almond Frangipane. I loved the sandwich, the crisp greens and the fresh-baked bread really took it from great to amazing. The pastry was simply delectable....every bite was better than the next. The frangipane crumble on top was the perfect addition to the creamy filling and buttery crust. I couldn't put this down.....until......one of the ladies emerged from the kitchen with a big heaping plate of hot, steaming, Chocolate Babka. It was one of those "I can't help myself" moments. Yes, I got one.....to take home, of course. And So: GO HERE. EAT HERE. This is a wonderful, locally owned establishment that deserves to thrive. I discovered this delightful local bakery thanks to fellow Yelpers, although I may have purchased some baked goods unknowingly years ago at RAM. Located right in the heart of the burgeoning neighborhood of Springfield, 1748 is the stuff local businesses dream of. Clean, welcoming environment, the aroma of fresh pastries and bread welcome you a you walk in. Because of its early popularity, I tend to miss out on the breakfast style pastries, but have delighted myself to the breakfast and lunch sandwiches served in the menu and they are delicious! Out of my 30-plus years on this earth, this has been the worst restaurant/bakery experience. This morning, I decided to stop in and catch up on some reading while I waited for my daughter and her robotics team to finish their meeting. A quick Google Maps search took me to a parking spot in front of the shop. Upon entering, I thought it would be a warm environment based on the décor and friendly cashier. While I looked at items on the wall, one of their employees kept their eyes on me (as if I were planning to steal something). I thought it odd, but After looking at the intriguing items on display, I ordered a muffin, a Matcha Latte with almond milk, and an espresso, then asked for the WIFI. The cashier told me, but I forgot and decided to ask again when my food arrived. Before the staff member could finish, the owner aggressively stated we don't provide WIFI on the weekends as it doesn't fit my business model. Instead, I read my PowerPoint without their WIFI as I ate my food and tried to enjoy my coffee. Moments later, I was asked (more so told) to switch to a bar area so others could be seated. While this was a little abnormal, I was upset by how rude and condescending the employee was as she asked (more like told) me to move. Finally, I am at the bar, and this man walks up, reaches over my drinks, and mentions something about my laptop. Completely invading my personal space, a staff member walks over and gets him out of the way. She then asks if I am okay. At this point, I am overwhelmed. I packed my laptop, left my food and drinks, dodged out of the door, and headed to my car in tears. Please note that all of this happened in a matter of 20 minutes. Also, note that there are signs on the napkin holders (Looking back, I should have taken a picture) that mention their rules for WIFI. However, I didn't break any rules, and I was a paying customer who planned on eating my food, drinking my coffee and espresso, and heading back to my daughter's meeting. This bakery/restaurant was the most unwelcoming environment I have ever encountered as a black woman and human. I can not believe this place is thriving in this lovely Jacksonville community. I have taken my laptop out at many restaurants while dining alone. Some of those restaurants are Hawkers (during lunch), Cowford (dinner), First Watch (brunch), and many more. Typically, on Saturdays, while my husband is watching football. I mentioned the examples to point out that this restaurant owner should have chosen a better business model and needs to treat paying customers/humans with respect. The random guy who walked in off the street was treated with more dignity than I was. Thanks for reading about my experience. There customer service is beyond outstanding, I placed a large order and was to pick it up at 9:15 on a Sunday morning , When I got there they said that they had not packaged it yet and it would be about 20 more minutes. They apologized and apologized! 20 minutes later the order was ready and they gave me several extra items due to them being late. I thought this was more than generous but they weren't done! They gave me a $50 gift certificate and took $75 off my bill, AMAZING! By the way, their food was exquisite and was enjoyed by all. 1748 is a quality eatery. The food tastes like it was made from scratch. The service was really polite and prompt. I tried the egg sandwich and was really impressed with how good it was. They use local coffee Pura Bean. My cortadito was well made and delicious. I brought home a caramel pecan apple tart that I can't stop thinking about. Something I love about this place that is so hard to find is good coffee plus plus. The food quality has gone down and it might have something to do with the owner putting the energy towards a Cracker Barrel looking gift shop in the front of the Bakehouse. Galettes are cracked and dry. Coffee tastes burnt. Sad to see this place change so much over the years. read more

Always a good day when it includes a stop here. Lovely atmosphere, delish food and coffee. Have only tried baked goods (A+) and coffee. Larger menu is available. Also features a small selection of gift items so shopping is an option, too. read more
