They do their meat extremely well here to the tune of the birthplace year of this country - no surprise. My friend asked for a bigger table and they weee nice enough to give it to us despite being busy on a Saturday night. My friend also was concerned about the lamb being too gamey but wanted to give it a try. He was a big fan. I got to try a piece of his and it was good too. I went with the Denver steak- I never had this portion of meat before and I see why it is advertised as a separate item now. It is likely this was randomly packaged before or the cattlers kept it for themselves and just sold the masses everything else. Japan has been known to sell this meat portion decades? Ago known as 'zabuton' apparently. It isn't really a new "invention" per se, but apparently a meat association helped with the marketing and accessibility of this meat to make it what it is today. It appears many places do not offer this but a handful of places do offer this. The doors are nice and the signs don't strike me as stand out but they are nice easy to read aigns. The decor inside creates a beautiful ambiance of the classy restaurant that represents the food they served. The asparagus, carrots, Kennett mushrooms, were cooked well. The lamb was tender and juicy. My Denver was tender, juicy, and flavorful in a way that you don't need to add sauce and it might even be a faux pas to do so. I suggest medium or medium rare. I got mine medium well but for this kind of meat. I think medium rare is probably best. The key lime is 3 layers which is a cake and then key lime layer times 3 layers. My friend said it was a bit dry but we both thought it was good and all desserts are made in-house. My friend thinks a lot of butter is used in a lot of places to make the food taste truly good and I believe that. I don't really think about these things and just try to eat and appreciate what is in front of me, but it certainly is good to be mindful of these kind of ingredients used as well. The alcohol was fine. My friend's drink was not too sweet and my espresso cocktail had a good balance of flavor and booze. I asked for a shrimp add on and maybe the waitress didn't hear me but I didn't get that. However I also wasn't charged for it and by the meal's end when I realized this, I did not want this add-on. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. The renovations were wonderful. The restaurant and bar are beautiful. We were seated in the dining room, close to the bar. It was very loud but we knew that from previous reviews. Our server was new. We ordered drinks and didn't wait too long. The maple bourbon old fashioned was on point. We ordered and enjoyed our drinks. Apps came out quickly. The oysters Rockefeller were delicious. The tuna tartare was extremely salty. We would have mentioned this to our server had he checked in. As we were finishing, he brought steak knives and I told him about the tuna. He said he would tell the chef (I doubt he did). He didn't clear our plates. The food runner brought our entrees but we still had our app plates. It was very awkward trying to clear our own plates while he also put our entrees down. Multiple servers, bus people, hostesses, etc. had walked by and saw our empty plates. I would think someone would have cleared them. The filet trio was cooked perfectly and was fabulous. My husband's ribeye was also cooked perfectly. At this point, we finally saw our server again. We had no water and I had no drink for about 15 minutes before he came back. I ordered a rosemary old fashioned and asked for more water. He brought more water but I waited 10 minutes for my drink. Had our server been back sooner, I probably would have even ordered a third drink. We finished our dinner but needed some wrapped up. He brought us a box. I do know many people prefer to wrap their own food. I've worked in many restaurants- both upscale and casual. We always offered to box leftovers. We then ordered the banana cream pie and devoured it. It was amazing. Overall, food was delicious (except the tuna). Service was just bad. Our server couldn't multitask to save his life. He barely touched the table. Also, when I had asked what the sides were, he mentioned 4 and said "and many more." I thought that was funny. Other staff also walked by and no one else touched the table. It seemed like there were multiple managers, but again, no one touched the table. At this price point, service should be impeccable (as it used to be). We may try it again (most likely happy hour). It also didn't help that two tables away a guy kept dropping loud f-bombs while there was a family with two teenage daughters sitting next to us. I'd give 4 stars for food and 1 star for service. Went here the other day to try out the special happy hour menu. For the price it's not bad. We all started with cocktails beforehand having wine with our entrees . Our waiter was good but I believe he was stretched out. We sat in the bar area and I believe he had tables in the dining room as well. One criticism I could see is that the staff didn't work as a team or help each other out. We had our wine sit at the edge of the bar and other servers came and left...no one picked up our drinks...this happened several times. Appetizers were pretty good, potato leek soup, shrimp cocktail ( a little small, on the size they use), stuffed potato skin, scallop,chips. Entrees we went with the twin 3oz medallions ( not so sure they were all 3 oz)...I got mine with lobster Bernaise for an $12, the amount of Bernaise wasn't enough ( I didn't expect much lobster), another one got it with crab and cream spinach. We were at 1776 a couple of weeks ago, first time since it was sold. Our party included 4 adults and 1 toddler. Here's the pros and cons... Pros: 1) Service was great...went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed for our toddler, drinks came out quickly, and checked back to be sure we were happy. 2) Two of us ordered the filet...was cooked perfectly, had good flavor, and was a good cut. 3) Caymus is still available at a very good price! Cons: 1) We were big fans of the escargot from 1776...they've changed it up...and in our opinion, not for the better. We really miss the sauce, and the bread that was key to sopping up the sauce. We could live with this, as there are many other appetizers to choose from, if this was our only issue. 2) Probably the biggest faux pas was two folks from our party ordered the ribeye. Big bucks and the ribeye that was served was very thin...we are farmers and routinely deal with butchers...the cut was definitely less than an inch thick...perhaps 3/4 of an inch, and it was chewy. Not sure where they are sourcing their beef, but I hope for their sake, that they get this right in the future. There are many good steak houses in the area...Houston and White, Theo's, Parkway, Nantucket, Harvest Tide, etc...I hope this was just opening jitters...but I have to say it was so bad that we already changed future reservations for our family. read more

Had dinner reservations for five people yesterday. Everything about our experience was fabulous. Our server, Michelle, was excellent, not only was she efficient and on top of everything but she had a great personality. we ordered the lobster ravioli and scallop chips as appetizers and everyone loved them. Three people ordered the fixed price salmon and no complaints from anyone. I am a steak eater and I have to say they set the bar on how to cook a steak. Delicious and cooked perfectly. I just returned from vacationing in Key West and I have to say 1776 blew Bagatelle out of the water. It was truly one of the best steaks I've ever had! I agree with the other reviews being wholly confused how this place is so highly praised. My husband and I visited for a special event. There was an issue with every single course we ordered. Wrong drink, bad oysters, foul fish, undercooked steak. I'm dumbfounded how this place can get so much wrong while claiming to be a high end restaurant. Even the sides were so underwhelming it was shocking. Our waitress was trying, but she mentioned she was brand new. Realistically she absolutely wasn't ready to be on the floor. Such a shame. The inside is lovely, they had drinks set up self serve for water and tea and the bar was open for anyone wanting a cocktail. I had the a chicken dish that was excellent. Unwelcome and Rushed, Pushed Out in 100 Minutes! We have been 1776 patrons for over 3 decades, including 4 visits to the new 1776. Until now 1776 was our favorite steakhouse at the beach. On May 8, 2026, we met another couple for a 3:30 pm reservation. We were initially seated by the piano. The restaurant was pretty empty and we ask for a table in the main dining room away from the piano. The hostess balked several times from moving us at all, but finally relented and moved us to a table across from the piano, but not in the main dining room as requested. Our server was unfriendly, never smiled through the entire meal service, and kept asking us if we were ready to order drinks despite that there were 4 of us and only 1 drinks menu. We pointed out that we had to share 1 drinks menu 4 ways and it would take a minute to select drinks. Once we ordered drinks she kept pushing us for our food order. We told her we needed a second "Pre-Fixe" daily specials menu as the table only had one to share among the 4 of us. We finally ordered a starter and our dinners. The scallop chips arrived quickly and were delicious as always. They were followed by salads. The wedge salads were nicely chilled, but this time were skimpy on portions, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and dressing. Entrees were mostly delicious, but one "twin beef tenderloin medallions" plate was served with 2 oddly shaped tenderloin tips that were tough and hard to chew. The restaurant / chef / kitchen should know better than to substitute cheaper "tips" for "medallions." Dinner was followed quickly by desserts. During the starter and all 3 dinner courses our unfriendly, unsmiling server hovered and removed dishes before other diners had finished the course. During dessert she threw one check down without asking if we wanted to split it. When she brought 2 checks back she had the split wrong. We settled amongst ourselves and left angry and upset. This is THE place to go in "Reho" for fine food steaks and especially prime rib. We've gone here for years to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. One was able to (& smart to) reserve cuts of prime rib along with your reservation because they would actually run out very quickly. The ownership has recently been handed to very capable hands but I am unsure whether this policy will continue. The Caesar salads is very traditional and delicious. Every time I visit I must have the tempura-like battered and finely seasoned onion rings - just perfect with a nice cut of prime rib! The oysters Rockefeller are some of the best I've had. Large, plump oysters roasted in a cheesy spinach topping are an East-coaster's heaven. The prime rib is slow roasted,, tender, savory and juicy. I'm talkin' melt in your mouth prime beef! Desserts are fantastic as well! Our go to is the banana cream pie but the creme brulee is also very good. This place is in a strip mall but the interior has just been redone by new ownership and is upscale. Service has always been very accommodating and quick. Make reservations well in advance. It's a tad pricey but for some of the best prime rib and fine food in the region, IMHO 1776 is hands down the place to go. Agree with the reviewers who were left wondering what the hype was about. We had an early reservation and the place was already full. Wonderful job on the renovations but that's where the high praise ends. First miss was the $16 cosmo that was half full and sadly lacking in any alcohol. Shrimp cocktail was nicely presented in a chilled goblet. Service was mediocre. When the table next to us got bread we looked forward to ours but it never came. We did finally ask the runner who served our meals and he brought us some. Steaks were dry and overcooked -- asked for medium and there was no pink. No seasoning either apart from a little flaked salt. Creamed spinach which was an upcharge as a side was literally spinach with cream. Not a composed dish at all. Bernaise, also an upcharge was gelatinous and had no flavor. Bottom line -- we were expecting a lot based on the hype and some of the reviews -- and it didn't deliver. Food was good, but we had an awful waiter and nanahement seemed not to care. We waited quite a while before he came to table, and over all he was very brusk and nattentive and - we had to ask for bread basket 3 times. This was a birthday dinner and while we saw other waitstaff being very attentive (bread baskets with appetizers, and complimentary drinks being served for anniversary and birthday) there was no acknowledgement of our table birthday. Most disappointing was when we spoke with a manager. We complimented the food and then explained what transpired. His response..first he argued we reserved on open table so they wouldn't know there was a birthday, at which time my husband interjected that he told the waiter there was a birthday at the table. About a month ago five of us went to this restaurant after it opened under new ownership. Yes, most of us got the happy hour menu. I was not impressed. I had the oysters that were horrible. They were overpowered by wet spinach and one tiny piece of burnt bacon. No flavor whatsoever. A few got scallop chips which were basically fried. They were like some kind of potato chip... and I still don't get it. It took all of the mayonnaise sauce to make them edible. We went to the old 1776 House last fall... there is no comparison. There was no wait for us to sit for our 6:30 reservation. The popovers served before our meal were tasty and a nice touch. My old fashioned and my husband's dirty martini were very well made. The wine list is greatly improved. Our waiter, Stephano, was pleasant, well versed, and speedy. The escargot was delicious. My husband's 7 oz. filet was good. I feel very lucky to have been able to get a reservation here on a holiday weekend no less! I made a reservation few days prior. My friend is a big steak lover and so he too was super excited about this place. When you walk in, it is decorated beautifully for the holiday times. We were sat at a table for four in the corner and they hade like a divider so you couldn't see people walking in and out and it gave a feel of privacy. To start our cocktails were tasty. I had a lemon drop martini. Sugar on the rim and strong! I had never seen how they serve the extra martini for you to refill when you are ready too. It comes in a small bottle like container as you see in my pictures. my friend had I think an Old fashioned. He too said it was good but very strong. For food I had french onion soup that was superb to start. Probably the best I have ever had. It wasn't too cheesy, just the way I like it. We also got served warm rolls with two different butters. One was regular and the other was an herb honey butter If I remember correctly For my main I had a 6oz filet with a side of asparagus and mashed potatoes. And As you can see in the pictures my friend also had steak but I don't remember which he got. We both like cleared our dishes. That is how good it was. To top off the great meal we had we also had a wonderful waitress who took my allergies into consideration, she was personable and was funny too. We were there yesterday for the prix fixed dinner. It was our first visit since the reopening and it was amazing. I could not believe how many people were there for dinner at such an early hour. The bar was full. The new restaurant has a very intimate vibe, low lit with comfortable seats. It was also easy to hear even with a full house. The food was exceptional. I had the scallop chips for an appetizer and was very pleased. The filet medallions au poivre and the mashed potatoes were delicious too . For desert I had the cherry amaretto ice cream. Everything was delicious. I cant wait to go back again. Also and very important was the service which was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He was busy but he made us feel like we were his priority. I cannot say enough good things! Except the price for this experience was only $35. Lobster bisque was delicious with a huge lobster tail but the steaks were completely unseasoned such a huge disappointment no crust no flavor I had the ribeye wife had the strip. We were very excited to try the new 1776! The ambience and piano music were the best part of dinner. The waitress was like someone you would have in a diner. She rushed us through ordering and barely came to check on us. The seafood tower peesentation was sub par but taste was good - too much crabmeat and not enough oysters. Clams were briny and tiny. Our steaks came and were warm .one was raw and not medium rare so we returned it. The man at the table next to us also returned his steak, as it was undercooked. We had a weird situation where a manager accidentally delivered another drink to us and mumbled something incoherent. We explained it wasnt ours but he just left it. Then the waitress came over and said "did youtouch the drink ", it wasnt meant for you" (it was meant for the guy next to us) Then she left it there anyway. The manager should have came over to both tables and offered something, as there were mistaken drinks and undercooked steaks. My husband and I drive by 1776 all the time. I was initially thrown off by a supposed fine dining establishment in a strip mall. We finally put that to the side decided to try them out. Big mistake! I should have trusted my instincts. Don't get me wrong as soon as you walk through those doors- it looks great. They did an applaudable job on the redesign but thats where the oohs and ahhs end promptly in my experience. As soon as we were seated, we were forgotten, and this was when they first opened so not busy at all just yet. As we sat starring around our waitress finally stopped as if WE rushed her over and hurried us through our drink order. Meanwhile the table next to us was seated maybe 15 minutes after us, and their server informed them of specials and the happy hour menu. And like magic their drinks appeared, whereas ours would take another 15 minutes to arrive. We saw table after table receive drinks from the bar and we had yet to receive water let alone the cocktails we ordered. Fast forward our appetizers arrive and they are cold. I have been to several high end steakhouses that serve Nueske's bacon as an app. What we received was cold run of the mill strip bacon dressed in a ton of coverup sauce. On to dinner. My husband said his ribeye was decent. My filet with the lobster and bearnaise add-on was pretty flavorless. The mac and cheese could have definitely stayed in the kitchen. But I write all of this right now as I fight day 2 of food poising from this establishment. Never again. And I do mean never. read more

If you've been to Hausners in Baltimore or Sunset in Glen Burnie you'll love this place. Tried and true meals that are marvelous. The Prime rib melted in your mouth and the Filet Mignon was a hit with the crab meat on it. The vegetables were cooked the way we like them and mashed potatoes weren't dry but very flavorful. At $129.00 for the meal and 2 Irish coffees well worth it and i recommend this as a must go to spot. Parking can be tricky when a lot of people are at the movie theater next door but there are a lot of spots to park in. read more

Retro-upscale-colonial steakhouse vibes, with a piano, and service is excellent, attentive, and polite. This is, without question, THE "go to" steakhouse in the Lewes/Rehoboth area, and for good reason. Strangely, every time we go, I end up ordering lobster, which is cooked *perfectly*, and topped with plenty of fresh lump crab. Freshly shucked oysters are a good start - very fresh. If you're not into eating them raw, the Rockefeller are excellent as well. Apparently the restaurant was better off under the old management. I ordered the prime rib, medium, expecting them to just cut it off the end of the roast where it's more cooked. Nope, they threw it on the grill like a steak and charred it around the edges. The cut was very thin for prime rib. I never send food back but I had to send this back and when the second one came out it was not much better. Sides were cold and green beans undercooked. My wife ordered the filet mignon and hers was overcooked too. Waitress comped my dinner. Unfortunately the meat quality is not of the previous owners- The thickness is less than half & they don't season the meats as the old owners. Service is challenged. Let me begin by saying that the meal and service experience were less than expected and the staff comped part of our meal. Last night, we we had dinner at the restaurant and were looking forward to experiencing the renovation and the revised menu. The NOLA oysters appeared to be simple cheese melted over oysters. They had no char or seasoning on them. I actually found them very unpleasant. The tuna tartare was minced tuna with olive oil and capers. No flare and no crostini - very plain and boring. We didn't receive our salad before the entree. The ribeye and baked potato were well prepared, but again the green beans offered nothing extra. The prime rib was supposed to be medium rare but was served rare and was not well presented. The sweet potatoes brûlée were hard as they were not baked completely. The creamed spinach was a bit soupy. We returned the prime rib meal. The Caesar salad was served and was very good. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon. read more
