Then I ordered the Sausage &Seafood Saffron Risotto it was so good there was lobster,shrimp,mussels,ground chorizo, roasted tomato & coconut seafood broth ! Unbelievable and terrible!!! Tried to get seated for a party of 6 at 3:00 - when they opened - no luck. Several staff members around the bar laughing and swearing while we were trying to get a table. We left and I did say they were assholes - which they were. The MANAGER actually chased us down at ANOTHER restaurant and demanded MY NAME and verbally abused me. Once again, at ANOTHER restaurant. We were all shook up. We just wanted to spend money and enjoy some food. We are well-heeled educated people and this was outrageous. To treat ANYONE that way is crazy. How about "Hey, we are just a bit behind on getting set up. Can I seat you and bring you some water?". Idiots. I would wish them luck but I think not. read more

We walked in on a whim after hiking and kayaking all day. Not properly dressed and didn't think we could even get a table. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately in the dining room. The waiter was outstanding (Joe) and the food was excellent. The wine list was impressive as well. Our dishes included stuffed jumbo shrimp and seafood risotto. The balance of heat and flavor were exceptional. The clam chowder was so fresh and flavorful. Dessert was topped off with chocolate crepe caramel! To die for! Highly recommend! Stay away! I don't understand all the good reviews, food was poor at best. First of all it is hidden in the bowels of a small maze shopping center with virtually no signage. Good luck finding this place. Hint (back far left corner). Second, I despise open air restaurants especially in tropical climates that are steam bath humid. It was 85 degrees, hotter than outside (84). But thankfully ceiling fans running at random speeds, ours was slow (damn), The menu is very limited with few entrees. We ordered the mozzarella sticks (3 for $17) which was quite good despite balsamic vinegar reduction instead of marinara. Crisp, full of runny cheese just lacking marinara. We also ordered the Oysters Rockafeller (6 for $21). Great cream spinach with seasoning and panko plus pecorino romano, except they chopped the oyster meat (wtf). That ruined it. It seemed they put half a chopped oyster on each one to stretch out their food budget. My wife had the baked jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat. Crab meat practically non-existent. Shrimp underc cooked. (3 shrimp for $35). It sat on a mystery starch which we think was sweet potato which was hardly sweet and no salt on it. I had the seafood risotto in a sausage brown sauce. Chef must have been out of salt and pepper as there was none. The risotto was tasteless like cream of wheat and mushy. I had to add over a tablespoon of salt and it still was very bland. Also I added pepper which did not seem to make a difference (do I have Covid?...as no taste nor smell). 3 large shrimp again under cooked, 10 mussels, and a small 3.5 ounce lobster tail. The tasteless sauce ruined the dish along with over cooked risotto. ($28). When I told the waitress it was tasteless, she simply walked away mid- sentence (attitude?) Desserts were good, chocolate cake with caramel sauce & pineapple cake with the same caramel sauce. The icing on the whole evening was when I ordered a virgin cocktail (no alcohol) and she charged me for a full price cocktail with alcohol ($12). When I pointed it out she said she would fix it and it came back with $2 off . You must be kidding. Ask for a shot of any alcohol and it would be at least $10. We ran out of there thinking how we could have better spent $194. Don't waste your time or money here there are much better restaurants. We won't be back and we mean to St. John ever. Much better diving/dining in Hawaii with half the flight time. read more

Nice atmosphere without being pretentious. We had a reservation for 6pm and were seated immediately. Our server, Joe, was informative, friendly, and helpful. Although not on the menu, they do offer a few options for kids. We had oysters and conch fritters for an appetizer - both were excellent. For our entrees we had the tuna, seafood risotto and our son had the mac & cheese - all were great! Plus 3 top shelf cocktails and the "best Shirley Temple on the island" our bill came to about $150. Absolutely amazing restaurant. Has a very warm feel, decorated perfectly. We had the oysters, and fried mozza as an appetizer. Both were amazing. The sauces for the oysters are mind blowing. Our server Matt let us try all of them. very proper Our entree's were the filet, the mahi mahi, and the jumbo stuffed prawns. Everything was 10/10. Delectable. Again I will use the word proper. If you respect food, and good service. This is where you want to eat in St. John. Our party ordered all the desserts.. all made in house. F'N amazing... 1864 has the astmosphere and the kitchen and serving staff to back it up.. This place is no joke and is my new favourite restaurant on St. John. Kudo's to the chef and staff at 1864. Kind of a unique indoor outdoor feel. You have to have a reservation. Fine dining for St John. Nice servers and food service. I had oyestees and the tuna which was great. Wine list is not huge. I would call each am to get on wait list for cancellations. Worth a visit second only to XO. read more

Last night, 8/14, my daughter, my sisters and I went to this restaurant. While the decor is nice, I the heat in the restaurant is oppressive. They have fans throughout the restaurant that barely move the air. Even though the food is good, you really can't appreciate it because it is so hot. The server was ok but the busboy was a star. He was on top of cleaning g off the table between courses which was necessary. For presentation purposes they use oversized dishes, except someone forgot to tell the owner that they don't work at the small size tables that they use for 4 people. In such an overpriced restaurant, you would think that they would use better chairs than small wicker, woven chairs. The first course was mussels in white wine sauce, 6 fresh oysters, a bowl of NE clam chowder and 4 crab stuffed oysters. The clam chowder was excellent and that is it. The oyster sauces were tasteless which was shocking. The crab stuffed oysters were terrible because there was so much stuffing that you couldn't taste the crab or the oyster. As far as the mussels, the wine sauce was delicious but half the mussels were closed and the other half were really small. Next we ordered the seafood risotto which was very good. We also ordered a rib eye steak medium rare which came as medium. We had a bottle of wine e mixed drinks before the meal and kept asking for ice to fill our water glasses. My husband and I dined with them yesterday (5/28/2021) and we had such a great experience. The food was amazing (huge portions), the waiter was attentive, and the ambiance is wonderful. My husband and I dined here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We did not have a reservation, but were lucky enough to be seated when we arrived. Highly recommend to make a reservation. We sat at the bar area, which was partially outdoors, with really cool architecture. Everything we ate here was incredible. First, the oysters came with an option of 6 different sauces. We tried and loved all of them. There were two kinds of mignionettes, mustard seeds, jalapeno, cocktail sauce, and one other which I can't remember. I've never been to a place with so many oyster toppings. It was amazing! We also enjoyed their signature jalapeno cocktail (which gets spicier as you go!). The new england clam chowder was PERFECT. Not too salty, and a generous portion of clams. Conch fritters were cooked perfectly, and came with a delicious sauce. Finally, the caribbean spiced daily catch was fantastic as well. This restaurant came highly recommended but the food was disappointing. The shrimp was tough and tasteless. The atmosphere was loud and we couldn't hear the others in our group at our table. Multiple groups in the restaurant asked the staff to be moved away from the noisy table or ask the staff to ask them to quiet down to no lasting effect. Management was nowhere to be seen to help out their waitstaff. The waitstaff did their best but this was a management job. The jalapeño margarita was amazing. read more

We found it funny that this place was advertised as a sister restaurant of Extra Virgin. It was such a disappointment. The biggest problem for us was that we wasted a night of our vacation time having to be very uncomfortable knowing that someone had to say something about the quality. First of all the menu was limited. I had a hard time making a selection and I started with the clam chowder. Being a New Englander I should have known better but there wasn't much on the menu. No doubt it was straight out of a Sysco can with a little dill added. I had one bite and left it there. Our waitress Lauren was a delight. Next I had the caesar salad which wasn't bad. Nothing was added but some parm and boxed croutons. At this point I'm ready to die but our waitress was such a sweetie. Next I had the Wagu skirt steak which the meat itself was good but the asparagus was plain with some kind of mystery starch under the meat which was unrecognisable to me.
