This place had both good and bad for us. First the good. Gus out server was good. Explained the menu well. Good service. The burger here my wife had was great. Very flavorful and done well.the collar greens were tasty. The bad. The grill chicken was barely warm inside. Seems like they took it out of the refrigerator and warmed it up slightly. Very disappointing. The rosemary fries had virtually no rosemary taste too whatsoever. My wife says we'll come back, but I'm undetermined at this point. read more

Stopped by for an early dinner while on a daytrip to Chattanooga. The food and service was amazing. We sat at the bar and were served by Allan and Crystal. They were both a delight. I had the crab cake sandwich with the fried okra it was devine. I would definitely recommend this place and be back the next time I am in Chattanooga! read more

If I could rate this place with 10 stars... I would! Live music, check. Outdoor seating, check. Friendly staff, check. Reasonably priced, check. Clean and quick service, check. GOOD FOOD, all the checks! Lol If I lived a little closer, I'd frequent here often. There wasn't a single item I ordered that was not incredible. I started off with a yummy orange and pineapple mimosa, an order of hushpuppies, and chicken and waffles as my main meal. I also tried my boyfriend's mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. Honestly people, nothing touched my tongue that wasn't packed full of perfected flavors. The chicken was perfectly crispy, and the waffle was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, just the way I like it! We called a little before we got there and they seated us right away, but it was after 2pm, which was probably a good time to come. We sat outside in March, so it was nice. We ate here after visiting Rock City. It was mid day but the bartender and staff went out of their way to serve us a delicious late lunch. I had a Bloody Mary made with a smoky base mix. Delicious. Hubby had a raspberry tea mulled with fresh raspberries. We ordered fried green tomatoes, hummus of the day ( with roasted shallots) and spicy wings. You could tell all the food was freshly made with attention to detail. If we ever visit Chattanooga again, we would definitely come back to sample more of their food. Stopped by for a late lunch today and had a very nice meal. Started off with the beef empanadas which were slightly underwhelming, excellent chimichurri sauce but the empanadas themselves seemed like all fried wrapper with little taste. Plus you only get two which was somewhat disappointing. From there however, the new got much better. I had a Caesar salad with a crab cake. Loved the dressing and the sauce that came with the crab cake. The crab cake itself was all crab meat and very tasty. My husbands southern fried chicken was very pretty when it came out, much more refined than expected. The gravy was delicious, just the right amount on top. All and all a solid lunch and we plan to give it another try in the future for sure. read more

The food is delicious & we'll definitely come back here! We had just finished going through a tour of Ruby Falls & my bf said a friend told him to try this place. The service was great & our waiter was in training, which meant he came off as not confident, but he did an excellent job. For an appetizer, we decided to try the wings & they were messy but so so good. We will definitely get those wings again when we come back to Chattanooga. For entrees, my bf ordered the hamburger that they're known for & I ordered Steak & Frites. He said his burger was great, just didn't like that it was so messy. I had told the waiter that medium rare was fine for my steak, but it came out a little too rare for me. It also came out ice cold. I asked the waiter if they could do medium well instead & the waiter gladly took it back & the next time they brought out the steak it was done just like a medium well should be. It was also not ice cold anymore. The flavor was delicious & my food was cooked perfectly the second time around. This place is a must & we'll definitely be coming back! read more

We were excited to eat at 1885 because of high reviews and were starved. Time was 4:45pm, on a Saturday. I arrived with my friend from India. A couple had just got seated and I stood at the hostess station for a couple minutes. All at once, a manager, a hostess and another hostess appear at the station. "Table for two can we have a seat outside?" "Yeah but it's gonna be 15 to 20 minutes." I looked around carefully, noting the couple that was just seated. The restaurant was at maybe 40% capacity. "Why's that?" I ask. "Why? Uhh, we are in the middle of a shift change." "We don't have time to wait 20 minutes so you can figure out your shift change." We left bewildered. I've never been told by a restaurant that I had to wait because of shift change, except maybe at an absolutely lackadaisical dump run by indifferent high school kids. Schedule your shifts so you don't make customers wait 20 minutes. It's a colossal waste of their time and it's disrespectful. Or maybe they just wanted me to bugger off because I brought the only non-white guy into the restaurant. That would actually make more sense me. We went to Purple Daisy Cafe and had great food and service. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. read more

Ate last month at the 1885 restaurant in Chattanooga and then yesterday at the one in Acworth, Georgia. Same great experience and food at both places. Incredible fried chicken and pork. Extensive menu and from what I saw at other tables all the dishes look mouth watering. The lunch items are a little more expensive than other places but the fantastic quality and taste far exceeds the improve difference. Service was stellar at both places. I don't live close to either location but rest assured when I'm back in either area I am eating there again. read more

A couple of weeks ago, I invited my daughter Andrea and my Grandson Jordan to dine with me at 1885 Grill in St. Elmo. It was their first time to eat there, my husband and I have eaten there many times. Andrea and Jordan loved their food. We ate outside so Andrea could bring her puppy. Our server, Bergen was very nice and attentive. Andrea lives out of town and she said she wants to eat at 1885 Grill when she visits me again. I think 1885 Grill is the Best restaurant in the Chattanooga area. Oh, and everyone loved Andrea's puppy. We had a great time. read more

4.5 stars. The food is delicious! They serve a few Creole-style dishes, and some Southern ones, in addition to burgers, salads etc. The service is very friendly and helpful. Two issues: 1) Parking is at a premium. There is a small lot and a bit of street parking, but no parking near the door or handicapped spots. I wish they would set the space nearest the door as a drop-off space so older patrons didn't have to walk so far. 2) The noise level inside the restaurant is pretty high, due to the hard surfaces and music. Worth the aggravation, though. read more

Everything was delicious! We had cheese and beef empanadas, shrimp & grits, fried shrimp with macaroni'n cheese. I enjoyed the shrimp'n grits -half my half creamy grits and adluh stone ground grits cake. Husband said the fried shrimp was fantastic. He also enjoyed the baked mac'n cheese with breaded topping. Everyone was friendly-from the hostesses and wait staff and even the manager came out and asked how everything was. This was our first time here, but we'll be back for sure. read more

A really great spot for drinks and dinner! We came around 7:30 and there was about an hour wait - I highly suggest calling ahead! They do not take reservations, but calling ahead did seem to speed things up for the patrons that did. We waited a while, but decided to take a seat at the bar. Service at the bar was great, and the drinks were just as good! We got the smashed strawberry lemonade and 1885 rita. We both ordered the shrimp and crawfish étouffée and shared a cup of crab bisque. My family and I came here for dinner and we had a good experience. When we walked in, our family was already there and the hostess pointed us in the direction to where they were seating after giving the name under the reservation, so that was much appreciated! Our waiter, Drew was attentive and kind. He gave his opinion when asked about certain items on the menu. For drinks, I got an Angry Orchard and my husband got a Miller Lite. We decided on getting the award winning wings for an appetizer and they hold up to there name! Those wings were delicious!!! My husband ordered the filet mignon, the feta scallion mash potatoes and mixed vegetables (zucchini & squash). He enjoyed his steak but was not to happy with the mash potatoes and he wished there was a little bit more vegetables in the mixed vegetables. I got the traditional caesar salad and I added shrimp to it and I got a bowl of the crab and sausage gumbo. The shrimp in the salad was good but the lettuce tasted a little old and the gumbo was delicious, I just wish it was spicy! Overall, our experience here went well! My family and I visited Rock City which was awesome, and as soon as we were to finish the trail, I called 1885 to see if they had a call ahead seating, considering that the day before was completely full and a long waiting list. Lindsay took my name and assured me that they would have a table ready within 30 mins. Upon arriving, Lindsey greeted us and walked us to the table. I've shared with her that this was our first time here and asked what she would recommend. She had suggested the Pimento Cheese & Fried Okra as an appetizer, the Shrimp & Grits and the Salmon. She was very informative and very nice. Unfortunately I couldn't remember the waitress but she was also very nice and suggested that they could do a two version shrimp and grits that one side had the fried version that was unbelievable. We've also ordered the Flounder Sandwich and the 1885 Burger which I then stated that we were all going to share the meal as a family style. Upon receiving the meal, their service went above and beyond by splitting the burger and sandwich into half which was a great touch in observing that we decided to share the meal. So def get the chicken wings. They are not buffalo but the marinade is delicious (be prepared for the extreme messiness). The salmon dinner was very good but the rainbow trout was lackluster. Also know that indoor dinner area is extremely smoky (they have horrible ventilation). read more

Flounder was very good, not super seasoned, so if you want a high level of seasoning it might not be the thing for you. Trout was excellent, 5 stars. What was really great here were the fries, hushpuppies and fried okra. This was some of the best okra that I've had. Admittedly, you don't get as much okra in Wisconsin. But it is a very nice atmosphere, the service was very nice and the experience was top notch. Oh, the cole slaw was average, but they can do that with everything else being so good. read more

We eat here at least 3 times a month. Food is always good, waiters and waitress are always friendly. The only complaint is they seem to have different cooks on a regular basis. Each time our meals are cooked totally different, all with a different method, hopefully this will work itself out. We will continue our visits. read more

The Host was not courteous and he could care less that we were there. However, the waitress was very friendly, courteous, and gave me excellent drink suggestions. The service was quick, but the food was average at best. We ordered the wings, southern fried chicken, flounder sandwich, grilled sandwich, and the NC Trout.
