    Fried green tomatoes

I love a good farm to table type restaurant!! Our party of 3 arrived shortly after they opened on a Sunday morning. Parking was interesting but available. Loved the ambiance and atmosphere. Kind of farmhouse sit-in kitchen feel. Our server was fantastic. He was able to give recommendations on the menu. He was attentive but not overbearing. The food was phenomenal. Breakfast being one of my favorite meals of all times is hard to go wrong. The fried green tomatoes were on point with the breading, thickness and flavor. The garlic cheese grits were so yummy. Loved my selection! It was beyond my expectations. They are certainly on my list as a must visit when I go to Chattanooga.

We came here for an early dinner on a Monday. We were seated immediately and received our drinks. It took a bit for them to take our order and it took a while to get our food. We did share appetizers with the table. The hush puppies with honey butter are truly amazing! The chickens wings were different but good. The steak frites did not disappoint and that garlic aioli is divine! The pork chop was very good but not cooked to temp at the bone. The service was pretty good but not great.

Photos on Yelp led us to believe the establishment is more upscale than it seemed as we sat for lunch. My fried flounder sandwich was very large, easy to split, but I really didn't care for the overall taste of the fish. The fried green tomato's were nice as was the fried okra w pimento cheese.

Our experience here was more than 5 stars. Imagine there are a couple more stars there. Seriously, it was that good! I live in a foodie city (Asheville) and I'm spoiled with at least good and often great food. But the meal and service at 1885 Grill were among the best I've had in years. It's located in the cute little historic St. Elmo area of Chattanooga, near the base of Lookout Mountain (the incline is a couple doors down). This place is not fancy by any means. The atmosphere is homey. But what it might lack in ambiance, it more than makes up for in great food and service. We were there on a Monday night for dinner. Every inside table was full and despite looking like rain, even a few of the patio tables were occupied. At one point there was a wait. Our meal was not rushed at all, the pacing was perfect. There's a small bar inside, and the bartender was on the ball. They have a good wine list and several interesting cocktails (we had the Parkside Paloma - very nice). We were intending to order a vegetable-based appetizer, but our server noted they were having a special on chicken wings with their award winning bbq sauce (they have several trophies on display). We're not fans of sweet bbq sauce, but on the advice of the server, decided to give theirs a try. The wings were excellent. The sauce, while not spicy at all, was also not especially sweet. It was just very tasty. For entrees, we chose mushrooms and grits (with a stone ground grit cake in the center, surrounded by creamy grits) and a blackened trout filet. We were told the grit sauce was "very lemony", which it was indeed, but in a great way. It really took the grits, the mushrooms, the wilted baby kale, red peppers and capers all up to the next level of good. The NC trout was grilled about as good as you could ever grill a piece of fish. The outside was crispy (even the skin on the bottom was wonderful) and the inside was cooked through but still tender. I chose the two sides of french green beans (seasoned to perfection) and mashed potatoes with scallions and feta cheese (those literally took me to potato nirvana). Both entrees, well priced, with good portions, left us full, but still something on the dessert menu called to us. We decided a little slice of pie would be a nice way to end our wonderful menu (see the photo, "little" did not come into play at all). Our server told us they make everything there, including the key lime pie, which was served surrounded by raspberry sauce. We had never seen that before (it seemed more like what you'd do with a cheesecake). I love key lime pie so I wondered why surround it with raspberry sauce. Now I know why. It took everything I love about key lime pie and made it even better. In summary, this was fantastic food and service we will remember for some time at a restaurant that made us feel welcome and repeatedly exceeded our expectations.

Don't sleep on the 1885 burger! Everything about it is amazing. From the creolaise, to smoked beef, pimento, and fresh beef. It was sooo good. The Mac and cheese was delicious too. Love how big the outdoor patio is, great for bringing a dog. Staff was friendly and food came out quickly.

    BBQ chicken - phenomenal!

We stopped here on a Saturday for lunch and were seated right away inside. The restaurant was small and quaint, full of local history and decor on the walls. Service was veryyyyy slow considering they weren't too busy. We waited 20 min or so for drinks and for someone to take our order. But once the food came, wow! Excellent! We ordered the burger and fries and the BBQ chicken entree with macaroni and cheese. All fantastic! The sauce on the chicken was phenomenal; it was on the mustardy side but still sticky like BBQ. We would definitely come back here, and it was nice that it was close up Ruby Falls since we went there after lunch.

Wings - pretty good but I wouldn't say the best ever. I love the crunchy-ness but the ranch left some to be desired. Pimento dip appetizer with fried okra - the fried okra is longer than the typical okra but still decent, especially with the pimento cheese! Hangar steak with fries - liked the garlic aioli, was a little overcooked but overall a decent choice with the flavoring on the steak. Parking is tough (location) and friendly service.

    The étouffée.

This is the first restaurant where I have cleaned my plate. I left nothing. That means that the food was so very good, AND that they serve reasonable portions. I hate restaurants where a serving could feed an army. For appetizer, I got their plate of freshly made pimiento cheese (white cheese), fresh fried okra, and flatbread. I will admit, I didn't eat all the pimiento cheese and flatbread, because it was meant for two people. But I ate all of the shrimp and crawfish étouffée. Oh man! How was this Chattanooga? Tasted like N'Awlins! Bread pudding for dessert was oh-so good. Service was also superior. Nick was my server, and Tim Harris the "how are things tonight" checker-upper . Both made me feel welcome. Tip: Public parking next door is prohibitively expensive. But as soon as you walk into the restaurant, there's a QR code that credits the entire amount. Be sure to use it!

The food was excellent. 1885 offers a delightful dining experience with its inviting ambiance and exceptional service. The menu features a range of delicious dishes that highlight fresh, local ingredients. Each bite is a testament to their culinary expertise. A must-visit for food lovers!

We were at the top of Lookout Mountain in the area of the incline railway and decided to find someplace to grab an early dinner. We did a quick search and found 1885 Grill, which was very close to the bottom of the incline railway. We liked that the menu we looked at online reflected a nice variety of entrée selections. We initially called to double check if we needed a reservation, but we got a recording and thought since it was pretty early for dinner, we should be okay. We drove down the mountain to the St. Elmo area since we were not riding the railway. My wife and I were able to find parking in the lot next to the building and our friends found street parking. We were unsure of the ability to park in the lot so we inquired with the young lady at the hostess table. She was very helpful and friendly. She asked us for our license plate number and was able to validate our parking directly through the tablet she had with her. We really appreciated this service, it was the easiest parking validation we have experienced. We then provided our name and number and she told us there was a 10-minute wait for a party of four. We were very surprised to see how busy it was at 3:30pm on a Saturday. We only ended up waiting about 5 minutes before we were taken to our table. We were provided menus and our server Cheyenne stopped in and took our drink orders. When she returned, we were able to ask Cheyenne questions about the menu. She was happy to share her favorite items and was very friendly and helpful. My wife chose the Shrimp & Grits, ("half and half" as suggested by Cheyenne, Adluh stone ground grit cakes and creamy style grits). I chose the 1885 burger, when I inquired about the option of "beef bacon" described on the burger, Cheyenne told us it was beef brisket, which sounded intriguing, I also chose the mac n cheese as my side. Our entrees arrived in a timely manner and looked delicious. We dug in and were really impressed, everything tasted delicious. My wife is new to Shrimp & Grits and really enjoyed them especially the suggestion of "half and half" which provided both styles of grits. My burger and mac and cheese were equally delicious and I enjoyed the beef brisket on the burger which is not something I've tried before. We also noticed multiple awards displayed in the dining room and learned 1885 has won many awards for their wings. Cheyenne explained to us the wings are double fried and served in a Carolina gold sauce. Yum, sounds really good. We also learned that on Monday night they offer six award winning wings for just $5. We also learned the name 1885 reflects the founding year of the St. Elmo area of Chattanooga. Overall, this was a fantastic experience start to finish and we would highly recommend to others!

We came in late afternoon which was pretty busy. It seemed like there were only 2 servers running the dining area. Our server was very nice but she took an order from the table that got seated after us and left us waiting. It happened again when we were ready to check out. She saw us but she decided to take an order from other table and then, gave us a check. We were waiting for about 10 minutes for nothing. The 1885 burger was delicious. The country cuban was alright. I would come back for the burger but I will do a takeout instead.

Rainbow trout blackened with a side of rosemary fries and French green beans. Delicious!!!!

Tried to spot for the first time. Was vacationing in Tennessee with the family and found this place. I ordered the fish with string beans and the rosemary fries.. The fish was tasty and the string beans were crispy and well seasoned. Loved! My husband loved as well. The restrooms were clean and service was on point.

    Is it loud when crowded?

I did not consider it to be loud. We went when it was fully packed and even standing around the bar and were able to have a conversation at normal levels with no issue. They didn't have any loud music and it wasn't a wild crowd.

    Are Reservations required?

No they are not required. Be prepared to wait though. It gets very busy.

Since it was our first visit and everything on the menu spoke to us, she helped steer us in the right direction. I ended up ordering the pistachio croissant, and honestly... I'd go back for that alone. It was warm, huge by croissant standards, and absolutely heavenly. I even grabbed another one to take home because Future Me deserved a little happiness too. We also tried the raspberry lemon danish, which was a delicious combo, but the pistachio croissant stole the show without breaking a sweat. We started with the poutine, and while it wasn't the traditional version I've had before, it was incredible. Instead of cheese curds blocks, it came with pulled pork and melted cheese, and somehow it just worked. Comfort food with a little Southern flair. For breakfast, we had the ham and cheese omelet with breakfast potatoes. It was exactly what you want it to be--classic, satisfying, and impossible to regret if that's your usual order. I also tried the Liquid Gold juice. Their juice selection is impressive, but I may have accidentally found my forever order on the first try. It was so refreshing, with just a hint of ginger. For a hot drink, I highly recommend the London fog. I'm not usually a tea fan but if you don't want coffee, this is an excellent option. Before we left, we picked up some of their salted caramels to go, and they make the perfect little gift... assuming you have enough self-control not to eat them all in the car. The vibe here is upscale southern diner. One of the signs on the wall said, "All are welcome, but you need to act right," and honestly, that's the kind of life advice we could all use. I also really appreciated that parking was free. In Chattanooga these days it's hard finding a place where you don't have to scan a QR code, download an app, and pay to park just to eat. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Milk & Honey is absolutely worth a visit...and if you're debating the pistachio croissant, stop debating and just order it. Your only regret will be not getting a second one.

We spent some time outside before being seated, but the food and service made it worth it. I stayed in my carrier throughout the meal and was able to join my humans indoors. Now for the most important part of this review. While enjoying brunch, I witnessed something I never expected to see: a baby goat riding around the restaurant in a pet stroller. At that moment, I realized Chattanooga may be one of the most pet-friendly places I've ever visited. Between the great food, kind staff, and unforgettable people-watching opportunities, Milk & Honey ended up being one of our favorite brunch stops of the trip. Dogba's verdict: Excellent brunch, friendly service, comfortable carrier dining, and unexpected goat encounters. Five paws !

Dogs aren't allowed inside unless they're service animals, but honestly, the outdoor space is where you want to be anyway. The patio is huge, with covered sections and outdoor heaters that kept us comfortable even when the weather turned rainy. We visited on a wet day and never felt like we were settling for "the dog section." The food was consistently excellent, and the happy hour menu made it an easy choice for a casual meal or drinks. My humans were happy with their food, and I was thrilled when they ordered me a side of chicken. It disappeared almost immediately, which I consider the highest possible review. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between lively and relaxed. There is plenty of room to spread out, and the outdoor space feels welcoming rather than crowded. We didn't know and went straight to outdoor seating, which worked out because we got a table and about a minute later we figured out the ordering process. I ordered the chicken salad croissant for my wife, then the California club for myself and then I had to order quiche Lorraine for the table. I had filtered tap water for my drink and my wife had a can of Diet Coke with a slice of lemon and ice in a cup, provided. Service was pretty quick, between our order placement and table delivery it was 7 minutes. The quiche was custardy inside with a delicious hint of caramelized shallots to go with the bacon and cheese/egg filling. The bacon did not overwhelm. The crust was perfectly baked and a nice flakey crust. The accompanying arugula and onion salad dresses with oil and vinegar and seasonings was an excellent pairing of freshness with the richer quiche. This is a big hit, as expected when advertised on the menu as "available until sold out." The California Club was on 6 grain toasted bread with an avocado spread and aioli, bacon, turkey, tomato and lettuce. I really liked the balance of each component in this sandwich, such that nothing dominated the flavors and each distinctive was individually identifiable in the contribution to the whole sandwich. The portion was just right. The chicken salad was also good, but was the bronze medal winner compared to the other two. The croissant was flaky, but not too much. The chicken salad had just a hint of lemon and was not overwhelmed with aioli, just the right balance. This was a fantastic meal. We liked this so much, we chose to buy two loaves of bread to go, a Chattanooga Sourdough and a garlic Parmesan and also a 5 lb bag of in house ground bread flour. I need one of these in Greenville, SC, my hometown. Last thing to note, you bus your own table and there is a dish basin nearby the outside dining area in which to place your dishes. This was an excellent lunch spot. The staff were also friendly and patiently helpful. This is a must visit spot when visiting or living in Chattanooga!

Funny enough, we had the same waiter - he was great. This time I got the Turkey Brie Panini and an order of the Tater Tots. I was very happy this time around. I would definitely recommend the Turkey Brie Panini - especially because it keeps well - I didn't finish mine and had the other half as a snack later. Not necessarily a spot to go out of your way for but a really great spot if it's close by.

I wouldn't mind paying $5 for a bagel with cream cheese if it was delicious, but what I got here was worth $1 maybe. I can't speak to dining in or their other menu items. The restaurant looked really cute and the employee who helped us was very nice. But we were sooo disappointed in the bagels, especially with the cost.

What an incredible, special place…read more Tl;Dr: Just become a member -- you'll thank me. My first real interaction here was when I popped by to co-work my first week as a member. The espresso machine had a fluke accident, and Kelly, the General Manager, kindly offered that they now 'owed me a latte' the next time I came in. I figured this was just being nice to a new member--or maybe I'd go to the bar sometime and have to awkwardly explain to the bartender that I was supposedly owed a free latte. Instead, on my next visit, the concierge checking me in said, "Ben! I believe we owe you a latte. Please let me know how you'd like it. I'll call it up, and they'll bring it down here to you where you're working." I'm sorry, I don't remember being born into royalty. But that's how you feel when you're a member. Exhibit 2: I brought my family here over the holidays, hoping to finally visit the Christmas pop-up bar. Unfortunately, we came on the night of an event when the bar was closed. When I asked about it, Liz, the sommelier, offered to open the bar for our group and proceeded to spend her evening making us drinks. Merry Christmas, indeed. Thanks for being so welcoming to my family. The hospitality here is truly second to none. On top of that, the quality and thoughtfulness of everything--the decor, the events, the menus, the amenities--everything here is so warm and wonderful. And how convenient that the House can be your office, your gym, your restaurant, your vacation resort and pool, and even your cozy reading nook. I thought it was a little silly when proximity to this cool-looking social club was a factor in choosing where to live when we moved to Chattanooga in 2024. In hindsight, that's turned out to be one of my best decisions.

My wife has a gluten and dairy allergy, and I've got a tree nut allergy, Alpha-Gal, plus a diabetes kicker. We're usually a solid test for any kitchen. Both visits, the staff passed. Knowledgeable, showed genuine concern, and were able to make accommodations without a lot of back-and-forth. Good selection on the menu meant we weren't working from a short list of options either. Food was good across both visits--consistent, which matters as much as a single great meal. My son particularly liked the Brunch Sausage Burger. Looked good, and seemed entirely appropriate after a late night. Large space, tables well spread out, and located not far from downtown. Easy place to settle in whether you're with a crowd or just the two of you. Good for: small kids, business meals, casual meals, groups Would come back. Already did once.

I have been to the Nashville Frothy Monkey years ago but I really enjoyed this one in Chattanooga. I had the maple chicken salad with a side of bacon and it was delicious. Chicken salad was not overpowering in mayonnaise. It was sweet and had enough flavor. I liked that they paired it with mutigrain bread and chips and salsa. I enjoyed my golden milk latte also. Our server was great and I forgot to ask her for her name. Definitely recommend this place.

Bowls, salads, drinks, desserts...such a gift to feel like you can indulge within your dietary limits. There are tons of vegan options, and you don't have to look too hard for gf options if that's your jam. The store itself is packed with amazing health food items like mushroom coffee, shilajit, matcha, electrolytes, and so much more. They also have a refrigerated grab-and-go section with fresh juices, rice paper rolls, chia seed pudding, and a lentil casserole. The glass dessert case is full of vegan treats like peanut butter and chocolate cups, bliss balls, and donuts. The menu is extensive with tons of great organic vegan options. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough (they also offer gluten-free and multigrain) with cashew cheese and a side of chili. I also got a beet juice, a lemon lavender muffin, chia seed pudding, and a decaf oat milk latte. The sandwich was pretty good. The bread seemed really fresh and I enjoyed the cashew cheese. The side of chili had a slight twist that elevated it above most regular chili recipes. It was good, but had a little too much corn for my taste personally. The beet juice was delicious and a generous portion. The desserts were just okay, but I appreciated that they weren't overly sweet and didn't have any weird ingredients. Honestly, it's just so nice knowing your food has no weird ingredients and everything is organic! The only downside was the coffee. Honestly, it was probably one of the worst I've ever had. Maybe it was just an off day or a mistake, I'm not sure. Everything else was good though! I would definitely recommend this spot. The decor is really cute and inviting. I love that they offer plenty of seating options too -- indoor, an enclosed outdoor patio, and an exterior exposed patio. Logistical Notes: Parking was super easy with a lot right out front. There are two accessible bathrooms for people with disabilities, and I love that they have a gender-inclusive restroom as well. You order at the register, they bring you your food, and then you bus your own "tray."
