Stopped in for Mean Mug Sunday morning, on our way to the Incline Railroad. I started to park across the street, but it was $12.45 for an hour. That's a nope. Instead found parking on the street but later realized there was a parking lot in the back. I wish there was some way to have known about the parking lot as friends who were in a separate car ended up paying the $12.45. So we arrived at the coffee shop just before the rush and I ordered a strawberry lemonade and a almond Joy doughnut. The strawberry lemonade was so sweet that I added water twice to it, but could not drink it and eventually took it home and later the next day at additional water to help balance out the sweetness. The donut on the other hand, was not that sweet. It was a basic donut with a little bit of chocolate, coconut flakes and almond flakes. It was not that good and I was quite disappointed. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll and raved about it the entire time plus other friends ordered coffee and they all enjoyed it. So definitely a place to come back for coffee. read more

So, continuing on this weeks coffee journey, a quick stop on the Southside for a Churro Latte which unfortunately since I got the large was served in a "to go" cup, so no pictures. While the ingredient copy looked scrumptious, I was a bit concerned with the overall sweetness, which I had them dial back, a good call, at least for me with a delicious end product. Like many of the shops around town, their's is an old store-front with an outside courtyard. Friendly staff, and while I typically do not eat at any of the coffee houses I frequent, Mean Mug has one of the more extensive food offerings and the couple items I have tried, have been very good. read more

Very meh experience. Coffee was fine. Not great, but fine. We went on a Sunday morning around 9. Looks like lots of Chatty residents order online and stop for coffee on the way to church. For that, I think you're good to go and why I'll go with 2 stars. If you are hoping for breakfast and coffee, keep walking. We both ordered the "world famous" biscuit, which is the Chattanooga style buttermilk biscuit that is not sweet or light - it's heavy and these were almost stale. The cheese was a few shards of cheddar stuck to the biscuit. Eggs and bacon were good, but we moved the proteins off the biscuit to eat it. We also got pastries. A cinnamon roll and an apple loaf bread. Nothing special here at all, even warmed up. Mean mug is a good name for this place too, as the staff was young teens that were in no hurry and could use some training in smiling and being kind to costumers. Also seen a sign in the back while I was ignored no cash accepted. Left to find a more inclusive place. (To the owners) don't waste peoples time. Have basic human decency. Stopped by on Sunday, 6/18/23. Free street parking or paid gravel lot parking. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food and drinks to our table. The food took a while to come out, but they were busy! They had a changing table in the bathroom, which was helpful! The bathrooms were kind of gross, but they were stocked with soap, toilet paper, and paper towels. Here's what we got: - Cold Brew ($3.50): I asked for Iced Coffee, but they gave us Cold Brew instead. It was too strong for me. - Blueberry Scone ($2.50): Good! - The Denny ($7.50): My husband gave this 3 stars. He said it was average and wouldn't get it again. - Breakfast Biscuit ($5.50): The actual biscuit was amazing. Super big and fluffy. Nothing mean about Mean Mug! We walked to breakfast and each got breakfast sandwiches - so yum! I had the Sophia: a croissant sandwich, VERY fresh tomato, pesto, egg, greens, creamy feta. This spot is so cute! An industrial, instagrammable spot with a great menu. I am dairy and gluten free and there were plenty of options for me. The prices are very reasonable but portions are small. The ladies at the counter were very helpful and new the menu and menu well. We took ours on the road as we were just traveling through. The food was delicious. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her breakfast biscuit sandwich which was huge, especially for the price. I too was impressed with the value in the very yummy vegetable quiche with a side of greens lightly covered in a delicious citrus dressing. The coffee was very good. Yes, in the year of our Lord 2021 we have moved past your standard American breakfast because yesterday we had a Vegetarian Bowl with a soft boiled egg, avocado and grits . Sub meat for no charge with a veggie patty. Food is fairly priced with cherry service. Vibes: very earthy and artsy. Local art is displayed on the walls for sale. Great spot!! I'm such a coffee snob and love this place. They roaster their own coffee, and use single origin coffee (meaning they don't blend coffees together). The shop is in an old building that you can tell a lot of locals go to. It's in a great part of town and just a place to grab a cup of coffee and relax. Ok so it's been a week since I've had Mean Mug's Denny breakfast sandwich and I still think about it every day. We were on a road trip out of Chattanooga and searched Yelp for a quick takeout breakfast spot and found this beautiful oasis of a breakfast cafe! We called in our order and it was ready for pickup within 10 min. The cafe itself was so cute and cozy which made me wish we had more time to enjoy our meal there but we were on a time constraint so to go it was. We both opted to get our sandwiches on an everything bagel with sliced avocado. The bagel was somehow both crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside and it was toasted perfectly. The chai latte and iced caramel latte were both so delicious and I appreciated they had options for non dairy "milks". We had a great experience at this local coffee shop. There is free street parking out front. Plenty of seating inside, and outlets lined against the walls. This makes an ideal WFH spot. It can get pretty loud in there with high foot traffic. I was not a huge fan of the black latte (with activated charcoal), but my friends raved about their hibiscus lemonade. I also LOVED the avocado toast, and added bacon. It was everything I wanted, served fresh and simple. I would highly recommend, and hope to be back again! read more

A bit of a bizarre experience all around is the only way I can describe it lol. My friend and I were visiting the area for the first time so we had never been to a Mean Mug before. Overall, it was a cute atmosphere. The were a couple of girls taking orders at the register - one was in training I believe as the other girl was helping her quite a bit, but both were generally confused and not that nice. I tried ordering an iced caramel macchiato for my friend but was told they don't make macchiatos which confused me because they offer other specialty drinks that have the same general ingredients as a macchiato, but I digress. I asked to make it a latte instead and they proceeded to tell me my total but I was like wait I'm ordering more lol. I ordered a hot decaf coconut & lavender latte (I loved that they offered those two flavors!). We also got the smoked salmon bagel on a gluten free bagel and the egg & avocado toast. The food came out before the drinks which was not ideal but they were a little busy. However, they somehow got SO confused by my friend's and my drinks and had to come to our table a few times to ask questions and/or remake the drinks. Their confusion made me confused lol. Anyway, overall the food was pretty good (the whipped feta cream cheese on the bagel was delish!) and the drinks were good. I sent it back and the next order came back warmer on the thinnest white bread ever, salty pesto and believe it or not, a very cold soft boiled egg. Nearly inedible. Coffee was bitter/sour tone. 3rd time I've decided to enjoy coffee and breakfast at Mean Mug and every time they do such an amazing job! I can be indecisive on what to order so I may have a few questions and they have led me to great recommendations every time! One time I chose the keto egg bites, which was SUPER delicious until I reached a bite that I did not expect would have bacon in it.. Which I do not eat.. this was my fault for not paying attention. So at breakfast yesterday I was recommended the quiche which was a very nice choice since the egg bites are pre made with bacon already.. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment here is so quaint and relaxing!
