Our group of 18 women made a reservation and ate at 1899 today. The restaurant is beautiful, and only a couple of tables were in use. We were seated and given half enough menus. The menu caused some confusion because it says sandwiches come with fries or a side, but all of the sides have an additional charge. After some time the waiter took drink orders which were filled in a reasonable time. Then she took our meal orders. Two of us ordered appetizers which were served quickly. But the rest of the meal didn't come out for an hour! We had a combination of burgers, sandwiches, and salads, nothing complicated. It was only after we complained to our server that she and the manager delivered food to our table. The food was arranged beautifully on the plates and looked and tasted appetizing. One person was dissatisfied with her soup which the restaurant refunded. Then, even after we asked for our checks, it was 15 or 20 minutes before she brought them out, and another 10 or 15 minutes for her to process them. When we pulled up to this place we got worried that we would be walking into the student union since it is on campus. But lots of nonstudent people were there too. The menu had a nice variety of items to choose from. I got the shrimp skewers which were served with lots of fresh veggies and crispy red potatoes. It was all very good but esp those potatoes. We went to the 1899 bar and grill on Saturday 1/17/26. The interior looked clean and well kept, and we were greeted immediately. Our server's name was Trinity, and she was the sweetest! So knowledgeable about the menu and was more than happy to answer our questions with a smile and great attitude. Her service was amazing. We were up at NAU for an EV Ride and Drive and someone suggested this place when we were done. Have to be honest that when we got there and looked from outside I thought we were going to a college cafeteria. Not, could we have not been more wrong. First the place is really well appointed inside and had classic but modern aesthetics. Very impressive. Yet it was completely empty (school was out already) so was concerning again. Staff was very friendly and service was efficient for our small to medium group showing up unannounced. Now we get to the food. Wow. Just wow. Incredibly impressed by the food. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. From appetizers to entrees everything has great flavors and memorable taste. The food is highly chef driven at incredibly reasonable prices for these days. My wife had the portobello stroganoff and it was maybe the best stroganoff I've ever tasted. Incredible flavor profiles. My wife rarely cleans her plate and she ate every bite. I had The Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. The chicken breading was fried perfectly with a light yet significant crust. The chicken was especially moist. They served it on a French Artisan roll (very similar to ciabatta roll) that stayed perfectly firm without getting soggy during the entire meal. It held up very well. My only wish was that there was a side of honey as I think this is a must for a Nashville hot chicken. The fries were also done well and clearly fresh cut. We also tried the queso fundido. An appetizer I generally enjoy. Maybe one of the best ones I've ever had. We will definitely be coming back when I'm in flagstaff. Might even drive up just to come back. It's that good. read more

This is in a NAU building and it's a big restaurant with a bar, large gas fireplace with chairs around it, booths and tables. You see the kitchen from seating area. I got the 1899 Burger which was amazing !!! Very tasty and I got medium rare and it was done perfectly. The coleslaw side with lime is so tasty! Our server was attentive. We arrived at about 1:30pm on Thursday and except for 4 or 5 business guys at the bar, the place had only one table seated for food. The reason I'm giving 4 stars is because at our booth the table, though wiped down, looked dirty. Maybe it's just the surface of the table and can't be helped, but it was my initial impression. When we arrived the host asked if we had a reservation and we told him about how we had called and spoke to a woman earlier who said they would be able to seat us and he rudely said "yeah that's not how that works" and said he had to "squeeze us in" when there were only 3 tables with people in the ENTIRE restaurant. Only two other small groups came in the entire time we were there so the restaurant never filled up. Overall just disappointed with the experience. We were told it was okay to come in and then when we get there he was just rude and made us feel uncomfortable being there. We were in Flagstaff, Arizona and found this restaurant right behind our hotel, which was attached to a part of the Northern Arizona University. We walked in and the place was beautiful with a nice patio outside. The food turned out to be absolutely delicious in every way. We started with their take on humas as an app which was fantastic as served with tiny tomatoes, veggies and with pita bread. The wife had the fish and chips with the fish (cod) perfectly cooked and succulent and also perfectly crispy on the outside. The fries were perfect as well. I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the grilled cheese which came with three types of cheeses and tomato slices and perfectly cooked and crispy. There was a slight ordering mistake where they brought out fish tacos and offered these for free while they corrected the order. The meal was discounted for the delay with the chef coming out to meet us. A young guy named Mike with experience from Scottdale's Maple & Ash and who really knows what he is doing. I was so fortunate to be invited here for lunch. Good location, nice decor, and fabulous service by Jordan. There were so many enticing options, everyone kept changing their mind about what to order. The red pepper Gouda soup pictured in my review was rich and creamy with a Parmesan crisp. I do think the same soup option at Wildflower had more taste, but I'm not complaining. My friends gave several thumbs up for the smoked salmon salad and the fall salad. Unfortunately, or fortunately I wasn't able to stay for dessert but the options were crème brûlée, a mixed berry cobbler or peanut butter pie with a chocolate drizzle. All of the main options were somewhere between 15 and $19 and came with a side of macaroni salad, homemade barbecue chips or coleslaw. My wife and I were just in town for one night. We love Yelping to find local restaurants. We saw 1899 Bar & Grill and decide to give it a shot. As we arrived we almost changed our minds since we found that it was a restaurant on campus. We are so happy that we did not! When we arrive the place wasn't very busy. It was a Thursday so maybe just a weekday thing and school was out as well. Our server Brianna, took our order and we started with a couple of drinks and an order of the grilled artichoke flowers. It wasn't what we expected but they turned out better than we had expected. Sometimes Artichoke appetizers can be somewhat tough. These were perfectly cooked and we were able to eat the entire heart! For dinner I ordered the fish and chips (my favorite) and my wife ordered the steak sandwich. I am pretty particular about the crust on my fish! The chef at 1899 has, in my opinion found the secret to perfectly crispy crust, not too thick and not too greasy. Just crisp in every bite! The cod was well cook and very flakey. Usually a steak sandwich is sliced steak. This one was a single piece of steak about 3/4" thick. Our first though was that it would be tough to bite through. It was incredibly tender and not a tough bit in the entire sandwich. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and just melted in you mouth. We had the Creme Brulee for desert. The crust was perfect, the creme very tasty and the fruit was very fresh. As we were eating our dinner the restaurant began to fill up. By the time we finished there were people waiting for a table.
