Absolutely incredible baked goods! The classic croissant is prefect in every way. It's a bit of a trek from KC, but SO worth it. This was one of my favorite coffee shops/ bakeries in college and I love seeing that it's grown to host people to eat in or take items to-go. It's a very chill vibe inside. Service was very friendly upon arrival. Coffee is delicious too!

We were in the area and dropped into the Barker. Oh my word, are we so glad we did! We don't get out much so we got one of everything to take home. Every single pastries and the cookie was delectable! I highly recommend this place. What you should know..this is a small establishment it has a small parking lot and limited seating. It would be best to grab and go. For those that do not care for croissants this place will forever change your mind.

The chocolate croissant was flaky and light, but the coffee was a little too sweet for my liking. Would definitely go back for more pastries, though.

Recommended by museum curators, I visited 1900 Barker for a quick breakfast before one of the most important meetings on a business trip to Lawrence. WOW -the light and flaky layers in croissant were amazing, followed by a hint of sweetness. I ended up with having 2 full croissants and ordered 8 extra for breakout after the meeting. The spicy chicken sandwich was also very good. It is somehow similar to Cx-Fx-A sandwich(sorry for comparison but that's my immediate reaction when I had a bite), but less salty and more crunch. The spiciness of brewed coffee was not my favorite. My colleague also ordered the same, but with milk, made the same comments and did not finish it. Not sure if it was just specific type of beans used for brewing or something else, but as a coffee lover, it was a disappointment. When I revisit Lawrence, I will definitely stop by 1900 Barker for another croissant and spicy chicken sandwich.

It's been almost 2 years since I've left Lawrence for San Diego. I knew it wouldn't be easy to find a bakery with bread and croissants that compare well, but I didn't think it would be this difficult! I've tried many bakeries between San Diego to LA since arriving, including some of the most famous in US such as Tartine, Proof, La Brea (what a disappointment!), and of course, the #1 rated bakery in all of US on Yelp right now, Izola in downtown San Diego. Tartine & Izola are close, but... 1) Cinnamon raisin walnut for the win on sour doughs 2) Twice baked almond frangipane is the bomb 3) That bloody, freakingly awesome breakfast sandwich that no establishment has ever come close too... Thank you for a wonderful 6 years. I still miss you. And if you're willing to send me your starter, I'll be forever grateful, even though the flour my wife uses will be different.

A good selection awaits. The pastries are perfectly fresh, light and delicious. Our coffees were beautiful, hot, and soooooo good. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Really appreciated the barista. Only sad it took this long for us to find this little gem.

While visiting Lawrence, we stopped by this gem of a bakery and ordered the morning bun, ham and cheese croissants, and breakfast sandwiches. Everything was PERFECT!!! As a foodie and seasoned world traveler, I must proclaim that these were the best baked goods and breakfast sandwiches I have ever had in my life. The sandwich, in particular, was perfection: precisely cooked, light and fluffy seasoned eggs, bacon, and cheese on a perfectly toasted butter croissant. Yum!! Looking forward to more deliciousness tomorrow.

Nice little coffee shop with homemade baked goods. Coffee is warm, not hot, so drink up quickly.

Tried way too many times to order online 90% of non beverage items ALWAYS sold out. Looks more like they aren't baking much.

Full disclosure I came here with a lot of uncertainty. There's a TON of coffee shops in Lawrence…read moreand they all aren't created equal. I took a meeting here and the person I was meeting with gave me a few local options. This was the place I hadn't been yet so I thought I'd go a bit out of my comfort zone and try a new spot. Something I was nervous about from the photos on Yelp was if there would be enough inside seating when I arrived for a meeting. When I pulled up, I was still a bit anxious about this as the front lot was full and I had to pull to the back to park. Once I got out of my car and walked through the cafe to the front to order my anxieties about seating had diminished. It's much larger inside than the outside appears and the photos here on Yelp don't really do the indoors justice. Yes, the outdoor seating is really cute and well shaded so I get why folks focus on it, but if you're like me and wanting to get some work done you'll find a comfortable spot here. Now onto the coffee. As I made my way into the shop I noticed one of my art school professors (we both sort of looked at each other like "do I know you?") and I moved on, but that's a good sign. The art teachers usually know where to snag a decent cup of coffee. When I ordered I tried one of their special drinks and chatted with the baristas about it before I made my choice. Extra points here because not only was the drink really, really good, but the girls working were beyond friendly and answered all of my questions. I'm not lying when I say this was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in Lawrence in some time. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

I want to come back when it's warmer so I can see the waterfall and outdoor area I read about in other reviews!
