A charming, hidden gem on the island. Perfect size for a bed & breakfast, 17-unit (if I recall correctly). The innkeeper was just so attentive and sweet. I used to think that bed and breakfast is nothing but converted old buildings with kitschy decor and manage by some retirees. Well, this B&B proved me wrong. The building is very low key, appears just like a single family residence from the street view but within it is a well manicured courtyard, featuring a water fountain and relaxing patio seatings. The building is cleaner than many hotels I stayed at (Hilton in Mission Valley, Sheraton and Bristol Hotels in Downtown SD). The Omni Hotel and W Hotel are comparable to the 1906 Lodge but you will definitely be spending easily $350 or more for a room at these hotels, also don't count on the personal service and homy breakfast in the morning. The carpet and furnishings are spotless. Rooms are nicely air conditioned and tastefully decorated; none of that corporate furnishings. Garage parking spaces are underground, compact spaces with limited turning radius. Otherwise, I had an absolutely perfect stay at the 1906 Lodge and look forward to my next stay. I didn't do much on the Coronado Island and was driving to the Gaslamp, Downtown and Hillcrest areas. The drive was short and I enjoyed driving across the ridge, so romantic and great for pictures too (for the passenger). read more

My wife and I stayed here on our wedding night. We received 4 calls from the front desk saying they were receiving complaints of noise. We were sleeping every time they called. We told them it couldn't have been us. On the 5th call they asked us to pack our bags and leave, in the cold, at 2 am. Truly a night we will never forget. Not sure why we got picked on or harassed. We feel it was because of our skin tone. We will not stay here again. read more

They have bikes available,which you can use to go through the several blocks of this charming seaside community. Super restful, hospitable, large B&B/Inn. Restored Craftsman style outside, Spanish style patio area combo. You'll want to wear clothes from the 20s (because this is the 1906 Inn) and sit in the Living Room and drink highballs, because you'd look so swell. Think late Downton Abbey. Very comfortable, quiet room with window seat that induced instant relaxation within walking distance of Hotel Del, Brigantine restaurant, the bookstore, and all the shops. The service was very gracious and professional. Yummy little happy hour with olive and cheese offerings and wine. Great to sit by the backyard pool-fountain, which looks awesome but is not swimming size. Breakfast: baked French toast with homemade fruit sauce, homemade scones, ham, hard boiled eggs, cereals, bagels, toast and granola. Ample good strong coffee, though a soy or almond milk would have been useful. You will not go out into the world hungry. We chose this place for a lot of reasons: it looked like a great place to read, had bikes, great style, reviews and reputation. My suggestion: stay for two nights if you can. Loved it. read more

If hyatt club member READ THIS! Well if you like RUDE this is the place for you. So this started the day of my arrival. I received a text from hotel telling me directions. They said the apps don't give correct directions. Waze did give me the correct directions. They asked for me to tell them when I arrive. I said 5 pm and asked a question, no reply so I called them. I got off the phone saying to myself this lady is not nice. She told me I will send you instructions for after hours checkin. She sent the instructions at 5:10 pm when I was right down the street getting ready to pull in. When I pulled in a lady was walking out and asked my name I confirmed and she said I set you the info and started to walk off, seriously you can't help? Then I went to door it was locked so I ran out and asked her to let me in at least. She yelled back "you didn't read the instructions. WTF! So I read them she waited (how nice) and I could not get into lock box. I had the wrong one. Unbelievable, when I told her I couldn't get in she told me if you would read my text. "You're standing right there, help me. She didn't, she left I got into room. Later trying to connect to Internet. No instructions I looked everywhere in room for 10 minutes (I did not want to run into mrs rude again) so I called hotel. When I asked for internet and code she said "I left the instructions tio s in your room!" In a curt, rude way! When I told her there were no instructions she helped me. Only because she screwed up! Unbelievable! The icing on the crap cake was when I called down to get an hour later checkout. From 11 am to 12 pm. This is Dina and No you can't. She stated they're a small hotel and need to clean room. I asked again notifying her of my hyatt membership (I have the highest membership, I guess?) and she said no again. WTF! Amazing room! Huge bathtub and a fireplace in the room. This is one of the best places I've ever stayed. Room also had a porch and study, very large. Great value too, inclues a great breakfast with unlimited mimosas, cookies in the afternoon (the coconut are to die for), and a cocktail hour in the afternoon with lots of nice snacks and wine. It also includes a bike rental, which made one of days amazing as we spent 2 hours going around the island. Great friendly helpful staff. read more

Really enjoying my stay at the hotel so far. I had an incredibly negative experience staying at Hotel Del (almost across the street) last year. Booking this hotel was my attempt to wash a bad taste out of my mouth from the island. This is a small boutique bed and breakfast that has not disappointed yet. I checked in with the innkeeper and the building is very secure even in the middle of the day, which I really appreciate. I got a tour of the property from the innkeeper immediately, everything from the parking garage to my actual room. Not only does Trip Advisor have this hotel as its number one hotel on Coronado Island but the nightly fee also includes breakfast, cookies throughout the day as well as tea and coffee, and late afternoon snacks in the parlor. There is personal touch all over this quaint hotel. Things I found particularly favorable: - I appreciate that the hotel is eco-friendly. They provide two glass water bottles with a safety seal and filtered water for each room, with a water dispenser in the lobby for guests to access and refill. - They also include two very plush robes in each room, and most hotels I have stayed at only provide one robe and you have to request a second. - There is free parking on the premises for one vehicle per room. - There is free Wi-Fi for all guests. Keep in mind: My room did not come with an actual closet. But they do have an area to hang clothes and provided four hangers in the room. There is also no central air conditioning. Located perfectly in Coronado, just a block off of Orange so easy to get to restaurants and stores and the Hotel Del without all the noise. Beautiful place to walk in the morning. The staff here are wonderful. Very nice and accommodating. We stayed in the Star Park room. Nice to have a little patio outside but next to 2 staircases so not very private. They served us a nice breakfast right on our patio. We played games on a table in the courtyard during the happy hour and they served us wine and snacks. The room was nice and big but a little dark plus lightbulbs were low wattage so hard to lay in bed and read at night. There was some weird noise in the wall by the shower all the time but not loud. A friend stayed in the room "Authors Study" which was upstairs in the corner so very light and bright. I would recommend the 1906 Lodge to anyone. read more

Not worth the money anymore. This was our third visit to the lodge and we are not sure if we will return. It doesn't seem the same with the new owners. For nearly $500 a night I expect certain niceties and clean rooms. We paid for the grand king suite with a jacuzzi tub. The tub was so noisy we could barely stand it. After my husband played around with the jets, he was able to remove a cover to get the noise to stop. The baseboards around the tub were filthy.... black with dirt. Housekeeping needs to clean the base boards or the innkeeper needs to have them painted. Golf carts can no longer be rented although the binder in the room says they can be rented. The binder also says that cookies are offered in the dining area from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Apparently this is no longer the case either. The fruit in our yogurt parfaits at breakfast was semi frozen. The wine at happy hour was not the best. I will say the sangria was good though. Spa size towels should be included instead of small bath towels. The toilet paper should upgraded as well . The mattress needs to be replaced..... one side of the bed was sunken in. No one was working the desk at check out and we simply had to sign ourselves out. It would have been nice for someone to ask how our stay was so we could tell them our concerns. They should also have at least one charging station for your vehicle. The nice things about the lodge are the location, the beach and umbrellas for guests and the lovely patio/courtyard and the food was good. read more

The homemade almond biscotis were warm, out of the oven. The building has a wonderful history of near death, and rebirth. Great location walking distance to beach and restaurants. The Grande Spa Suite (North Island room) was very nice. The whirlpool tub was big enough for two and I'm 6'2". The bed was comfortable and the shower was big. We had to wait past 3 p.m. to check in since our room wasn't ready. Complimentary breakfast was still good even though we are vegetarian and couldn't eat the main dish. Overall our experience was great and the lodge is very well kept and very nice stay. read more

If you are visiting Coronado Island, this is the place to stay! After years of staying at fancy resorts and letting them squeeze every nickel and dime they could out of me, I opted for something different and it was the best hotel decision I have ever made. Don't stay at the Hotel Del and get raped on room, parking, resort fees, and five dollar soft drinks! I took my girlfriend there for her birthday and it was a wonderful stay. The staff was very friendly and they helped me with my dinner reservation. I can't say enough nice things about Lori and Denese, they were fantastic. I loved the location of the lodge; just a few short blocks from all the action of Coronado Island, yet it resides on a quiet residential street away from all the noise. THE SHORT: Although I have only been to Coronado once and thus have only ever stayed at 1906 Lodge, I feel quite confident in saying there is no better place to stay. It is well appointed, well run, has a perfect location, has free underground parking, is not too big or too small, and as clean as any place I have ever stayed. Like unbelievably clean. Do not look any further, just stay there. THE LONG: My wife and I stayed here for two nights in May in the "Plunge" suite. It was perfectly located, both within the city and on the property. I highly recommend the room, which comes with a large spa tub. Things I loved: 1. The free underground parking. Most other places charge for parking, including the Glorietta Bay Inn ($10 a night). 2. The location. Yes, the Hotel del Coronado is a magnificent building, yes Frank Baum may have written some Wizard of Oz books while staying there, and yes it's on the water, but it's expensive, it's old, and it's so big you can expect to spend 20 minutes a day walking to and from your room to the property's edge. The 1906 Lodge on the other hand took only 20 seconds to walk to and from my room (not exaggerating). 3. The 5 pm wine hour in the parlor. My wife and I caught the last 15 minutes of the wine hour and found we had the parlor completely to ourselves and sat there for about an hour and a half drinking wine, reading and relaxing. The staff saw the wine and food platters were in use so they waited until we were done to clear (over an hour after it was supposed to be over). 4. The cleanliness. My wife is a serious clean freak and she couldn't find one thing -- not ONE thing -- that wasn't up to her standard. This includes fire extinguisher cabinets, doorknobs, railings, carpets, everything. I've never seen anything like it. If I think long enough, I could probably come up with another 4 or 5 things to list, but you get the point. Great deal for a great weekend. read more

The Lodge is a beautiful little B&B in a great location on a residential street one block from Orange Ave and two blocks from the Hotel Del. There's no view to speak of, but it doesn't matter. The rooms are charming, each with its own decor and special details. We stayed in the Bayview room facing the street so we did experience some street noise Saturday night, but overall it was fine. Sun & Mon nights were very peaceful. Our huge king-size bed was so comfortable it was ridiculous. I'm not a good sleeper, but I slept like a baby. The staff was incredibly friendly and the breakfast is delicious and made fresh daily. Private, secure parking under the building is included in the room rate so we drove down with our bikes (which we also stored downstairs) and left the car parked the whole time. Everything was easily reached by bike or on foot. I can't say enough about the Lodge. The rates are excellent too, not just for Coronado but for a B & B as nice as this. We stayed here for an entire week and I was very happy with the service and quality associated with this historic bed and breakfast. It is a beautiful facility that provides some much needed amentities. Under ground Parking - Parking is a precious commodity on the island and by offering secured parking is a huge incentive to stay here. Beach Equipment - Beach bags and Towels to include beach chairs are all free and included with your stay. Mobility - Although we chose to walk many places, 1906 provides free bikes if you want to ride! For $20 an hour, you can also rent a golf cart if you choose to. We did not. Complementary breakfast was served daily from 8am -10am. Although we were excited to see what was being offered daily. I would ask that they provide a few options. I am a meat eater and only a few time they offer a meat (ham) on the menu. Also the main dish was all that was offered. Basically take it or leave it. I have a few allergies and chose to go with hard boiled eggs as my only other option. Staff was top notch! Location, quality of facility will definitely bring us back not to mention the loyalty program. read more

A recently restored historical gem, this beautiful hotel had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. There was wine and cheese in the afternoon before we took a walk on the beach. Went to dinner at Burger Lounge, which was great. Very quiet - and romantic. They have a great breakfast with eggs, muffins, yogurt, granola etc. and super coffee. Only thing I suggested to them was to add a power strip since I had to recharge my computer in the bathroom .. and they said they would add that. They had easy free wi-fi in rooms and common area, which made blogging in the parlor in the afternoon a joy. read more

We originally planned to stay only two nights but once we arrived we knew we had to stay longer. Perfection! I have to agree with other reviewers, 1906 Lodge is Coronado's hidden gem. This lovely inn does everything right: from easy, friendly check-in (they walked us to our room and showed us around), to the delicious breakfasts and the perfectly done rooms! The suites are beautiful with period furniture, superior sateen sheets with dreamy cozy soft cotton comforters, a pile of perfect down pillows, maybe the best cottony towels I've ever felt anywhere. The pictures don't do this inn justice. We had a two-sided fireplace (one side faced our perfectly cozy King-size bed, the other side faced the great jacuzzi tub). The bathroom is large with black and white period tile work, a huge shower. The entire room, the bathroom, the entire inn is postcard perfection. The staff is friendly, but not intrusive. They are helpful, but not pushy. The daily breakfast is yummy. You start with coffee, juices, fruit, cereal, pastries, and it is supplemented with a hot entree. Free underground parking (accessed with your room key) adds to the seamless experience. It is about two blocks off Orange, however we found this to be perfect in every way. You are close to Orange, the shopping, restaurants and fun, but it is so quiet it is a world apart. You will sleep like a baby here. Wonderful service. Friendly staff. Super clean AND cozy B&B rooms --- and --- free wine & apps at 5 p.m. daily. Thank you 1906 Lodge for a wonderful first visit to the San Diego area. My boyfriend surprised me on my last birthday and took me here. If you are going to stay in Coronado - you should stay here. It is so quaint and small and the room was SO clean and cute. Each room is different from the next. The staff is all very friendly and they answer questions about the area. They are always working hard every time you see them. It is very personal service that you cannot get from the big hotels. More that I liked about the Inn. They had a wine and cheese hour every day at 4pm with little snacks and wine. You can sit outside in the cute courtyard and just soak in the atmosphere. They also have a really tasty breakfast every morning. Every day there is something different. There are also refrigerators outside the rooms with waters, and you can keep food in there if you want. Parking is free (underground and gated) and the location is awesome. A few steps and you are at the Hotel Del anyway. So why pay their crazy prices? I loved this place and I would never stay anywhere else in Coronado! read more

The two stars is given mainly for an appalling statement made by a staff member. After staying here, one of us was left with a telltale marching line of red bites that signifies bedbugs. This can happen anywhere, and we didn't blame the hotel, but we thought it important they should know. We very nicely told the woman at the front desk of the situation. She took a half-second glance, and said airily, "Oh, those are mosquito bites." First of all, she's not a dermatologist. Second of all, they looked A LOT like bedbug bites. Third of all, the proper response should be something along the lines of, "Hmm. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We'll look into it." Instead, they chose to blow off a potentially significant piece of information about their hotel that could really affect a guest's future visit. And just to clarify: we're not dermatologists, either, and we're not making any firm bedbug verdicts. But you'd think the hotel might want to know? Other than that, it was okay. At over $350 per night, you're shelling out a lot of cash to be near the action on Coronado. There's wine and cheese on the patio in the afternoons and the breakfast isn't bad. Housekeeping entered our room at 10:58 a.m. and admonished us that checkout was at 11. They keep their lobby doors locked at all times, which seems pointless. The dismissive attitude of the staff, however, is what made this a disappointing experience. read more

My wife and I stayed here for four days when in San Diego for a wedding. We had decided to add a couple days to the trip for a short vacation, and we were delighted with 1906 Lodge. On our previous stay in Coronado, we stayed at the Hotel Del, and while we certainly enjoyed it, I think for future trips we'll opt for 1906. The lodge is really a great value when you consider the many extras: free parking, a wonderful breakfast (including a delicious hot item every day), loaner bikes and beach chairs and towels! The location is perfect, unless you insist on an ocean view (and are wiling to pay dearly for it!) It's on a nice quiet street, but only a few minutes walk from the beach or shops. Best of both worlds. The staff is wonderful; service is attentive and friendly. This felt more like staying at a friends cottage than a hotel (which I guess is the whole point of a B&B.) The rooms were very well appointed with great attention to detail. The linens were so nice we went on a search to find out how to order some for our home. Highly recommended! read more

The first thing that impressed me about staying at the 1906 lodge on Coronado Island in CA was our name on a little "welcome" card that was left on the bed when we arrived. That was such a nice personal touch that I haven't seen in a very long time. This place has an old time feel but doesn't lack any of the modern day technology. Our room was a really nice size with an attached on-suite that had an awesome claw foot tub. The staff was friendly and very personable. They showed us around and provided everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Oh, forgot to mention the hotel is close to the beach, shops, and dining. We parked our car in the under ground garage and didn't see it again until our departure. We were able to get a lot of exercise walking everywhere we needed to go, which was great because this place is really close to some awesome places to eat! read more

I booked a stay at this hotel online for an anniversary weekend away with my hubby. I was a little nervous because we usually stay at "The Del" when we go to Coronado & that hotel is hard to beat. BUT once we arrived at 1906, all my concerns were gone. I was super impressed!! What a charming little B&B. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. We stayed in their "North Island" sweet. Which was perfect for our romantic weekend away. The room had a fireplace, jacuzzi tub for two, a separate sitting room & it's own balcony. A-MA-ZING!! We also really enjoyed the breakfast that was included each morning. Great selection of items & the presentation was darling! This hotel is close to everything. Once we parked our car, we never used it while at Coronado. Your just a 5 minute walk to the beach & some of our favorite Coronado resteraunts. Loved everything about our stay at 1906!! I really enjoyed my time here. I found this place on Yelp and had pretty high hopes for it, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a bed and breakfast so it feels very quaint. The innkeepers were great, friendly and knowledgable. It's just a walk from the beach, Orange street, and Hotel del Coronado. You basically don't even need your car once you get here. My room was a little smaller than I expected from the pictures, but the amazing bathroom made up for it. We stayed in Isabella and I was so in love with the tub. I want to come back and try out all the rooms! After reading all the raves about breakfast and the wine hour, I wasn't too blown away. There wasn't a great selection but at the end of the day, this place isn't a restaurant. I had a nice weekend here. I especially liked how quiet it was and that I could walk around like it's my house. When I came downstairs no receptionist was there to stare at me and I was able to just wander around aimlessly which is a big plus! I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a nice relaxing weekend. read more

The 1906 Lodge was a perfect romantic getaway! Conveniently located to downtown and the beach. We stayed in the Tea Garden Room, and it was beautiful! Comfy bed, huge jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and awesome balcony(with an amazing view). We went to the Wine and Cheese hour, and it was pleasantly nice. Socialized with the owners and other guests. My boyfriend had always stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado, but I wanted to surprise him and change it up. He was really impressed with 1906 Lodge. If you want to visit Coronado Island and stay at a beautiful, quaint bed and breakfast then this lodge is your destination. The rooms are very different depending on what you like. My husband and I wanted a king size bed and had an upstairs room with a fireplace and balcony. It was clean and beautiful. They provided safe underground parking with easy access. Each day they provided all day coffee, cold and hot filtered water and cookies. They had a wonderful hot breakfast such as egg bakes, pastries and fruit, yogurt, hot oatmeal, cereal and hard boiled eggs. They also had juices, milk and champagne for mimosas. At five, they provided happy hour and had wine and Snacks such as quiche, cheese and meats. Their baked goods were amazing. Everyone was extremely friendly and made you feel at home. This is a place for quiet and relaxation. It will be our go to destination. We walked everywhere and never used our car. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast for anyone wanting to be in a quiet place and be two blocks from the Del Coronado Hotel, the beach and all the shopping and food you could want. read more

This place is so nice and peaceful. From the moment I checked in to the moment I left, there were great impressions. The day I checked in, upon arrival, there were wine and snacks offered to me. There was never that awkward forced socializing that you sometimes would get staying at a B&B. Every morning there was a filling and delicious breakfast. My husband and I spent 4 days at the 1906 Lodge on Coronado Island and absolutely loved it! The property is beautiful and incredibly well-maintained, the staff are wonderful, and the breakfasts (included) were delicious! We borrowed their bikes to tool around the island and their beach towels for our excursions. We enjoyed mingling with the other couples during the [gratis] wine and cheese happy hour in the evenings. Our room was very comfortable and had all the amenities we wanted. It was also nice to have free parking under the property for our rental car. I'd recommend this bed and breakfast to any couple looking for a getaway, whether you're taking a babymoon or simply wanting to get away for a few days. 1906 Lodge was first rate. We stayed in the Silver Strand king suite. With a tv sitting area, a tableside sitting area AND a small balcony, this suite was very welcoming and useful. The double sided fireplace is incredibly romantic and it cranked out the heat, even if we didn't really need it in July. The bathtub is big enough to swim in. The furnishings and finishes are new and sparkly. The breakfast was divine and varied from morning to morning. The location is outstanding, being a block from Orange Ave, the main drag in Coronado, and the Hotel Del and the beach. The courtyard is lovely and when the landscaping fills in, it will be heavenly. I have never stayed at a more charming hotel. I absolutely love this place. Charming and clean with gorgeous, comfortable rooms - and the best staff and friendly service hands down. They serve gorgeous breakfasts every morning in the most charming little breakfast room and have a beautiful room with big picture windows that you can sit in and drink wine or read by the fireplace. It is so peaceful and lovely - a great place to unwind and relax. You can easily walk to the many shops and other restaurants in Coronado as well as the beach or Hotel Del, you won't need a car - and honestly, walking around Coronado is part of the charm of staying there. Wow! Thanks to the lovely hospitality, we felt lucky to be here. So many wonderful touches make this place feel like home. We stayed in "The Plunge" and "Kate's Garden" rooms. "The Plunge" has this incredible bathtub, a sitting area for reading, and two chairs on the porch so you can read outside. "Kate's Garden" is smaller but still a perfect room for two. The beds are so comfortable, the rooms are thoughtfully decorated. I haven't had to worry about showers running out of hot water. The best part has to be the food -- the breakfast in the morning (with unlimited mimosas!) was delicious, with free cookies in the afternoon. This place is also two walkable minutes away from the Hotel Del and very close to a bunch of great restaurants. I'm so grateful to have stayed here. My thanks to the Innkeepers. read more
