So sad I got to barely enjoy this spot as it was coming to its end at Lyric market. I had a blackened shrimp po boy for the first time and I can say I may enjoy it more than a fried breaded one. Service was friendly and the gentleman helping had such great suggestions of the local eateries. I hope to find wher we they move to in the near future. Can't wait t to try the gumbo! The lyric market was a very diverse spot to go enjoy drinks and a quick

Simply amazing ! Easy five star review! Great customer service. Ivan is a top notch pro! I appreciate the hospitality and great food! Food: unreal, simply amazing! I got the red beans and rice with tasso sausage and it was amazing! Full of flavor. Every bite is seasoned to perfection! So much flavor and goodness. The shrimp po boy is top notch! I was very impressed with the bread and huge fries shrimp. Two things that stand out, one the bread is amazing. Turns out they fly it in from gambinos out of Louisiana! Second the fried shirmp are huge! Fresh and fried to perfection. The bread pudding is simply amazing. Ivan was the best and the food is great! We will be back soon. Easy five star. If you follow me. Try this place asap.

After walking around the food hall, the decor at 1929 po boy kitchen caught my eye. It had all the flare of New Orleans and historical pictures making me feel the authenticity behind this business. While eating dessert down the way, we met the owner who gave us a mini history lesson as well as the story of how she went viral 3 years ago, moved down the way, and is now leaving to open a brick and mortar. She recommended the yakamein which is what we had our eyes on but we just finished eating dinner. After speaking with momma Mo (the owner) we knew we had get some to go. And I'm so glad we did! The gentlemen working Tuesday night were so patient and gracious. I was customizing my yakamein because I don't eat beef or pork and they helped me get my order just right. My friend got the oxtail yakamein and I got the seafood yakamein and added greens. I can't wait to see this business in their brick and mortar and taste the rest of the menu.

We made a trip to lyric market to try the oxtail ramen/soup from 1929poboykitchen. The actual market is really cool with good options. They have sitting outdoor as well as in the building. We sat inside and ordered our soup. The wait was very short to order, but it took more than 20 mins to get our food. The soup was good but spicy, although I had asked ans was told it was mild. I thought the ambience and decor were nice and although my soup was very spicy and the wait for long, I would recommend it. More when it's nice weather! There was plenty of street parking, not sure of they have their own lot.

I literally have nothing negative to say. Everything we had was great, it was presented beautifully, the portions were healthy, and the flavors were present! The staff were so sweet and helpful with recommendations. I will certainly be back. This spot is located within Lyric Market so it's family friendly, very spacious, and convenient if everyone is wanting a different cuisine since there's multiple options. Parking is available in a garage and two hours are free with your receipt from a purchase so make sure you keep it!

I found this restaurant on Instagram after seeing a lot of hype around the shrimp and grits, fish and grits, and oxtails and grits. The food was well-seasoned and spicy, but unfortunately very greasy. The grits weren't as smooth as expected, and the same oily gravy seemed to be used across different dishes, with visible grease on top. It was a bit too heavy and spicy for my taste. The service, however, was excellent--friendly and attentive. The prices are on the higher side, so I expected better balance in the food.

As a NOLA girl who loves some good food...... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 10 out of 10! The YAKAMEIN was awesome and the service top tier. Ivan with the heart eyes hate the best energy! Food and great service is something you will never forget. Go Go Go!!! Don't hesitate.

10s across the board!! fresh and flavorful! the only downside is that the food is quite pricey for a causal lunch. for the large catfish po' boy, side of potato salad, oxtail yakamein w/ shrimp, and two sodas the total was $78 w/o tip. so be prepared for that because there are no prices on the website either. the service was very friendly and professional. 1929 is located in a dining hall area, so there is open seating. although it's a communal space, everything was still very clean!! pro-tips look for street/metered parking vs a garage. if you order a po' boy, get the small i ordered a large and it was enough to share with 1-2 other ppl !! next time i will try a dessert and report back! bonne appétit

So I wanted to full love this place as a New Orleans transplant. Service was amazing! The gentleman that took my order was so cool. Granted I had the bayou water, a side of fish and the potato salad (IYKYK). Oh and the sweet potato bread pudding. Everything was great with the exception of the gumbo (bayou water). The fish was well seasoned and that's why there is a pic of it. Potato salad on point and the bread pudding was DIVINE! But that gumbo is a whole no for me. It was really greasy and I had skim the grease off the top to even taste it. The chicken was dry, and I didn't see representation of the trinity. Which hurts because I was craving a good gumbo.

I love coming here. The beignets are amazing! The catfish is really good too this last visit it was salty. I fought through it but it was tough. They are kind of pricey so no food goes to waste lol. Overall, great food and service. Definitely gives New Orleans.

Attended an event that was in Lyric Market which apparently is some kind of food hall. I'd never been there before! So many different options to choose from! I checked out 1929 and was so glad I did!! I got the catfish po-boy and it did not disappoint!!! I mean it was banging!!! I'll definitely be back to check out some other menu items and some of the other vendors in the market!!!

    Pancakes. Beyond good!!

The food was fabulous period! This spot is located in the lyric food hall in downtown Houston. Some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Fluffy with a great crust. Don't hesitate. Just order them! 3 nice size pancakes. I shared an order so I could also get an omelette. Veggie omlette was typical taste however they are made with cream & I asked for no cream so I'm sure ordered as made would be more delightful. Potatoes with peppers & onions were fine. Needed to add salt & pepper. Everything else was so flavorful I almost wonder if they just forgot to season them because they were allowing me to order breakfast during lunch hours. Greens are quite different. Hard to describe but they are spicy & made in like a gravy...perhaps a roux. Not vinegary. Not sweet just kinda earthy. Different but good. Others with me ordered Shrimp & grits and oxtails, everyone raved about their food. Sweet potato bread pudding also had pumpkin in it & was tasty. The primary lady in charge (owner?) was very pleasurable & accommodating. The food takes a little time so plan accordingly, but just know it's worth the wait! I highly recommend you check them out!

Thick slices of toasted baguettes, powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, plump blueberries and a small cup of warm syrup!

This isn't your everyday brunch French toast--it's French toast the Creole way!! I love Mama Mo and I can't wait to visit her this year! Definitely recommend!

The place was like walking into the 50's, with the old school metal tables and ample linoleum. I LOVE Louisiana cooking, and it couldn't have been more authentic. The only problem I had with my shrimp gumbo is the bowl was too small (actually a filling portion) and loaded with succulent, tender shrimp. Yummmmm! The cornbread was sublime and dipping it in the gumbo was killer! John had a Po Boy and said it was heavenly. The fries were obviously fresh cut and perfect. Time to Appetizers: 20 Minutes Time to Crawfish: 25 Minutes It's a solid branch from the main location in Bellaire, but they're missing some things. For example, the Bellaire location has the new Viet-Cajun flavor of sauce that hasn't debuted here yet (though you can DIY a mix). (Review is for July 2026 if they've updated since then) We got here at 6:05PM and got seated with no issues. Ordered the following: Combo #1 with extra corn and potatoes (3.5/5): Crawfish isn't in season, so don't be surprised at my low rating. It's still great and flavorful all around. Garlic Noodles with Shrimp (4/5): Still incredibly rich and buttery and garlicy and great for a palate cleanser. I'd skip the shrimp; you get eight pieces for $10 extra and that's not really worth it. Crawfish Beignets (4.5/5): Still a fantastic appetizer. Comes out hot, crispy, buttery, and is a really indulgence. 1 lb. Little Neck Clams (4.5/5): I liked these more than the crawfish tbh. It really does depend on what's in season. Very easy to eat, very flavorful. Service was generally good but our server seemed slammed; it took a long time to get water refills and to place extra orders (we got a second order of beignets to-go). Market price for crawfish is high and they're not in season, so don't be afraid to ask. The Combo #1 in July 2026 was $22. Overall, I'll probably be back during crawfish season especially because it's more convenient for me than the Bellaire location, but the Bellaire location has it beat for general atmosphere after the remodeling and much better options for mixes there.

Inside it's a nice restaurant with an upscale feel to it. I ordered a house salad for $9 to start and the Pasta Rosa entree for another $28. The salad arrived first with a generous amount of romaine lettuce with diced tomatoes, cucumber, shredded carrots and chopped eggs on top. With my chosen ranch dressing it was a good tasting salad. The Pasta Rosa dish had sliced Parmesan strips on top of penne with shrimp, crawfish and sausage for the protein with mushrooms and a tomato cream sauce. This meal initially tricked me. My first impression was that while there was plenty of protein the taste of the tomato cream sauce was lacking some flavor. I expected more. However as I kept eating and getting beyond the top layer of the food the flavor increased significantly. I think that the proteins caused the sauce in the lower half of the dish to create more punch. This dish got better and better and I changed my mind.
