Had an appointment for 2:30 today but was having trouble finding location. I am from out of town. I called the company office three times for assistance and was told not to worry. My Cat is a male 3 year old Orange Manx Cat, one morning we woke up and he just looked very sick, and was unable to urinate but kept trying, so i googled ER Vet, and took him to the nearest one being this absolutely Terrible, Terrible Place I should have checked them out 1st before i brought him here it was a horrible mistake. So we are in a panic cause he is just so sick and we bring him in, I knew it was going to be costly but never thought a vet would play off your emotions in order to charge you more money, they also played off my ability to pay, I made a critical mistake when i brought him in and had advised them that I can only pay a maximum of $4,000.00, DO NOT EVER TELL THEM SOMETHING LIKE THIS. So whatever it took to fix him, dropped him off about 8:30a.m. on a Thurs., Gave Them a Down Payment of $1450.00, which was 70% of the estimated cost, total bill was a little over $2,000 at this point. So we paid that, left our cat their, called later that night around 11:00p.m. just to check on him, they said that they were able to unblock him and he is doing much better, we think thank god, the next morning, one of these bottom of their class vets that work here called my message phone to my mother, give her the rundown, tell her that he is in critical condition, didnt call us the pets owner, so my mother was busy all she was able to do was tell us he is in critical condition, we say okay mom we're gonna call the vet immediately. My fiance calls and requests to speak to the vet, so we can see what's happening with "OUR" pet. The Little Girl that works the front desk says incredibly Rudely says "look lady the vet cant call and talk to everyone, you guys need to communicate with each other, she already told someone her situation" so she is thinking **What this is My pet not my message phone's pet** she demanded to speak to her cause at this point we are thinking he's dying!! they refused to tell her anything, than had the audacity to call my mother and tell her, that we are not to call there anymore (this is 100% true we have the call recorded) so finally we get word from my mother, she tells us the situation, to save money they said that we can put him with our vet and keep him there overnight on an I.V. and would be much cheaper, but keep in mind he is in critical condition and if the I.V. falls out he could have kidney failure due to his kidney damage.. So Okay okay we ask should we keep him here.. they said yes its in his best interest... so we're allready 2 grand into this and we want him to live, so we say okay keep him, next morning he has turned around and is better, we go to get him, Im gonna bet you already know the cost right?? yeah it was 3,850.00 remember i told them my cap was 4,000... okay whatever i'm happy he's saved right... the vet explained to us, that he has crystals in his bladder, caused by his food, and has some kidney damage, sells us a bag of the food that according to the vet there was absolutely critical that he stays on this food to stop the crystals, and for his kidney, so of course okay no problem... told us we should bring him back there or to our vet for a check up, of course go to our vet, which tells us #1 he doesn't have and never did have crystals #2 He doesnt have and never did have kidney damage #3 Doesnt need to be on the special food because that food is for crystals that he doesn't have #4 after the 1st 24 hours of being at the ER vet he was unblocked and never went backwards, and was never again in critical condition... So needless to say they lied about everything, just so we would reach our max dollar amount of 4,000 dollars, so i contacted my lawyer, told him about this, in my case it worked out good because i didnt pay with my card i actually used my parents card, with their permission, but we were able to dispute these charges, I had called and spoke to the manager David, this guy is hands down the worst manager/supervisor/just human i have ever held a conversation with, i explained the situation to him thinking he would be appauled at the actions of his staff, nope not the case at all, as soon as i told him the situation, did a complete 180, started acting like a 4 year old that got his legos taken, I told him I am more than happy to pay this 1st charge of a little over $2,000, but i want to be refunded the rest, and I told him if he doesnt want to refund me the amount that is really owed, I'll just dispute all the charges and he wont get a penny, he tried to get all smart with me and say look i've dealt with tons of disputes, so my response was, hey David.. why don't you go take a look and see whos name is on that card i used.. it isn't mine, needless to say i got all my money back read more

Oh my goodness I cannot thank Kellen and the rest of the staff enough!!!!!!! Our two dogs got out and were turned into this location. Luckily Kellen saw one of our posts on Craigslist or Facebook (or who knows, we posted EVERYWHERE.) I got the call and was there to get them in 15 minutes. I don't know if its in their job description to look at community websites or Facebook for posts about lost animals but if she hadn't we probably wouldn't have our animals home right now. They dogs are home safe, happy as ever, and we have First Pet Veterinary Center to thank!!! And whoever turned them in! So thank you from the bottom of my heart, you guys rock! read more

We took our 6 week old puppy that we had just bought to the clinic on Easter. He had bloody diarrhea. He would not eat. They ran 300 worth of tests, gave us antibiotics and sent us home. After 2 days of the same simptoms we took him to another vet. They foud 2 types of paricites in his stomach. After another 300 we found the problem that should have been diagnosed the first time! I came to this clinic yesterday for my sick dog. I was greeted right away by friendly front office staff. I was taken to our suite right away and advised they had a 2 hour+ wait time as they had several emergencies. I was given a nice snack basket with drinks and various snacks incase I needed them. That was an amazing touch. After my 2 hours had come and gone I checked in with the front desk to see where I was in line for being seen and I was assured I was next. The front desk again was very pleasant and did not give me attitude for asking. Shortly after that the Dr. came in and saw my little sick dog. The Dr. was nice and offered several options and recommendations. I then waited another short time to have an assistant come in and explain the treatment plan and mediations. Then the front desk came in for payment. I thought the whole process was great. Very personal and I didn't feel like another number. My over all wait was 3 hours but given the fact that they had several emergencies and only 1 Dr. available (the other one was in surgery) I don't think my wait was too terrible. I would highly recommend this clinic if you need an urgent appointment. Great job guys!! read more

We had a poor experience in an emergency situation. While they were responsive to our coming in with a dog trauma, they prepared us for the worst scenario which was traumatic for a doggie mom to consider decisions that would need to be made, after X-rays I was comfortable with taking her home and nursing her until next steps. I was guilted into leaving her overnight do $1200, when I picked her up her bandages had blood on them. I got home and read the aftercare and sent them a pic of the bandage. They charged me another $60 to come back and re-bandage. When I went to our local vet the next day, they said that wound should have been wrapped better and after they fixed it the bleeding stopped. 1st Pet has me sign a quote then gave me. Different quote for my records, the format is not clear and it was not explained well which brought a high degree of stress to the situation. Their website adds insult to injury with a financing quote of "choosing between your pet and your bank account"... REALLY 1st Pet? The decision is really if you are imposing more charges to line your pockets! They quoted $4000 for surgery, but our local vet consulted a surgeon that said it likely would heal on its own. 1st Pet needs more regulation... this is not acceptable! read more

I found a dog sitting still, panting and covered with cholla stickers in the middle of a major street (McDowell) in East Mesa. VCA recommended 1st Pet for boarding overnight. They were very compassionate and concerned about the dog. They would take him and board him and care for him for the weekend at no charge to me. If the owner was not found on Sunday Animal Control would take the dog on Monday. They found the owner online (straydar.com) and reunited her with her owners. Providing care for strays for free? Searching for the owner instead of just letting animal control come? To me it is going above and beyond. read more

We had thought we could receive a good quality of care from this company but we're very sadly mistaken! We brought a dog into to treat an ear infection that after three days had only gotten worse. We took the dog to a different vet that was much better qualified and much more helpful and resolved the issue after only two days. I called to speak with a manager on Saturday to express our concerns and was told David would call me back on a Monday or Tuesday NO call by Tuesday evening so Wednesday morning I Called and got the same response that David was not in yet but was on his way in and maybe didn't get my message from Saturday but she would try and have home return my call sometime today. After waiting another hour for David to call he did confirm he had received my message on but had not important business to attend to on Monday and Tuesday and he didn't appreciate my reference to him not taking the time out his busy schedule to call a upset customer. The customer service is Below par and very defensive and management has little concern over customer experience. I truly hope the owner who I was told by staff was not around much gets a chance to read this and deal with David's lack a customer interaction abilities. read more

Had a disgustingly horrible experience with a vet here. Avoid this place. They fear monger to get you to run expensive tests that they over charge you for. Came in and got a laundry list of things it could be on our dog. Told my wife and 2 kids the dog was dying then flippantly walked out of the room. Came back and said that the reasons she thought the dog was dying weren't correct and that we needed to do tests and rush the tests to get answers more quickly. 500 dollars later we knew nothing and she was suggesting another 1500 dollars in tests. We left went to another vet that did the same testing for 40% of the cost quoted. They gave us answers right away and actually cared about our dog and family. When I called to let the head veterinarian know how we were treated and what happened it was met with indifference. She told me that she would talk to the vet and get back to me and never did. Gave me a halfhearted apology and told me to bring my dog back in if I had any questions as if I was about to give them another red cent. Please don't support this company they don't deserve it. read more

The Mesa location has gone down hill. I don't know if they have new ownership or what. We brought our 16 month old malamute in who had an intestinal blockage and was on the brink of death. We were given a $4000-$5000 estimate for his care. The vet and staff only cared about money and waited for a deposit even before they would put an IV in him. . 24 hours later we are at $7500!?!?!. This business is unethical and only cares about there bottom line(money). When they called for more blood money we could audibly hear a staff member reclaim " I already took off $500 if they don't want to pay they can just come get him". The business should change its name to 2nd pets emergency in order to be more honest to there marks (customers) on what really comes first. He is in worse shape after the surgery and may have to be put down. read more

I have loved this vet center for months, until I and my dog had the worst experience ever. I used to run a kennel, and was astonished at how callous this staff member at 1st Pet Vet was. Rude and unfeeling. I asked to be called by the manager. No call. I wrote an email with a description of what happened. No call. Finally, when I threatened not to pay, the manager called me and as I was in a grocery store at the time, I expected him to call me back....did not. I am sorely disappointed in this establishment. My dogs had good experiences there, but one of them needed her nails clipped and the staff at 1st pet vet said they could not do it as my dog was too afraid. i mentioned that i thought they were the experts, and the staff member was rude, dismissive, and made me feel unwelcome. I actually pay a monthly amount to have these things done free of charge, so I am wondering if perhaps they were trying to cut down on their expenses by saying they could not do the work for which I was paying. At any rate, I will never recommend 1st Pet Vet again...not only was the vet tech rude, but the management clearly did not care about my experience or my opinion. read more

I unfortunately had to bring my dog here on New Years Day because my normal vet office was closed for the holiday and it was an emergency. They were SWAMPED, I'm assuming because everyone else's vets offices were closed as well. They got me and my dog into an exam room right away and although we were there for FIVE hours, everyone was so friendly and accommodating. From treats and a meal for my dog and a whole basket of snacks for me, they went above and beyond to make sure we were at least comfortable. To top it off, when the doctor came in to finally see my dog she gave me two different quotes, was transparent on what SHOULD be done and what I could wait to do, and was apologetic for the wait. I would happily come here again and am so grateful to the staff I interacted with. If you HAVE to spend your day off at a vets office, make it this one! read more

This is not the place to look for a reasonable insurance or wellness program. The first thing that you need to know is that ALL of their Wellness plans are binding year long contractual commitments that they really will not even try to let you break. They want you to commit a year at least for the services. The services are mundane and routine in my opinion that you could more effectively manage with using the Banfield vaccination clinics and an occasional vet visit (yearly if there are no other problems of course); but, just like an insurance company, I believe that they simply sell fear when trying to get you to sign up for their programs. They mention that you always want to be prepared for an emergency, etc. In the vast majority of cases these things do not happen and if you manage your dog's vaccinations and yearly check ups you will be in better shape than if you sign up for a program with them in my opinion. Whenever something does happen, I believe that they "nickel and dime" you to death for small costs that quickly ADD UP! Then, they have the audacity to mention that you get 10 percent off medications which means ABSOLUTELY nothing! If a business sets the cost of the medication then they can charge 10 percent more than they normally would to a person and therefore when they charge you, you are paying what they originally wanted to recoup for the medication in the first place. All human and non human animal (Vet) are wrought with outrageous expenses to the customer. A pet is expensive if you are a conscientious owner and take care of the medical needs of your pet. I do. I just hate being "gouged" with hidden costs and told that it is at a discount. What a rip! Check this out: Vaccines like the rabies, DHLPP etc typically costs 2-5 dollars to the vet practice a drug rep once told me. Now, look at this and other practices who charge up to 150.00f or one dose of any of these vaccines. It's like movie theater popcorn and soda. You pay what they ask or you do not get it. This may be the right program for you. I merely want you to know that there are all kinds of hidden fees in my opinion that the people at this location appear to be disingenuous when it comes to describing the potential of incurring such charges when you get this free annual check up but need dental work and antibiotics which will cost you upwards of 1 grand because "dental", the real money maker, is not included and the anitibiotics if needed due to an necessary extraction are not covered as well. Oh, the cost of the extractions are NOT covered either. It's just too much with this business. Won't be renewing at all. read more

Would give zero stars if possible! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!! Took cat in-was panting & appeared to be constipated & extreme pain. My regular vet was booked. Took him in at 8:30 a.m. After several minutes a vet tech came & took temp. Another 15 mins later-a vet came in. She recommended x-rays, blood work, etc, to the cost of over $500. I said "of course-do what you need to do." We waited in the exam room for over 2 hours! I finally went out & asked the desk if I could be updated on my pet. She told me to go back to the room, & they would send someone in." We waited another 15 mins. A woman came in & said they were an emergency clinic, that they WERE GIVING HIM SUB Q FLUIDS, AND THAT IS WHAT WAS TAKING SO LONG, & that I needed to be patient. Finally ANOTHER half hour later, I was told they needed to give him an enema--& that I could go somewhere else & wait. So we went home. TWO HOURS LATER-still no call--so I called them! They said he still hadn't defacated-so they were going to do another enema. Finally at 3:00 pm--they had still not called. I called back. They said the 2nd enema had not worked & to come & get my cat. We rushed over. We waited AGAIN for over 10 minutes. Finally a vet tech came in-with my cat wrapped in a towel.He was so drugged he could not stand. I put him in his carrier. We were told to wait--AS THE DR. HAD TO COME AND TALK TO US ABOUT AFTER CARE.! THE DOCTOR NEVER CAME!After another 15 mins--ANOTHER VET TECH CAME AND GAVE HIM "SUB Q FLUIDS!!!" (THESE WERE THE SAME FLUIDS THAT WERE SUPPOSEDLY GIVEN TO HIM FIRST THING IN THE A.M. to make him feel better!! AND WHY WE WE IN THE WAITING Room FOR OVER TWO HOURS!) When I asked the vet tech about this--she said the person probably overheard what the vet was talking about for treatment. THE VET NEVER CAME BACK TO DISCUSS ANYTHING WITH US. FINALLY--7 HOURS AFTER TAKING MY CAT IN--I took my cat out-to pay the rest of the bill. The woman at the desk looked at me and said, "Did anyone tell you to come out here?" I paid my bill -$724!!! It is now over 4 hours later! Cat is so drugged & out of it--still looks in shock, can't stand, & is still in pain!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!!! read more

I unfortunately suffered the loss of my dear cat Leeroy a couple weeks ago as he developed cancer and we had to put him down. We chose 1st pet as he was in a lot of pain and they were open weekends. I am so glad this was the place we took him. The staff was so caring and kind. They had water and juice available for my whole family and they were gentle and sweet with Leeroy in his last moments. They provided us with 3 prints of his paws at no charge and sent us a condolence card in the mail signed by each individual staff member. If you ever have a delicate pet situation and you feel the extra care is needed for you and your furry friend, this is the place to go. read more

I brought my dog in with a limp and my vet could not fit us in. The staff was very kind and professional and the vet I saw, I forgot her name but sweet blonde woman with short hair and an OSU pin on gave my girl a thorough exam and told me that x-rays were not necessary and hopefully this was just a sprain. I appreciate her trying to keep this affordable for me and not recommending unnecessary things. She gave my girl medication and said that if she does not get better in a few days, then it will be time for x-rays and other tests. I am thankful that she was conservative in her approach but still gave my dog an excellent exam. Thanks again! read more

Not impressed. This place is all about profits and the extreme squeeze. I do not trust a vet's office that looks like they are going for a super expensive stylized look of a place like the Mayo Clinic. This place brings you a little snack basket while you wait, they say it is complimentary and I'm thinking how much are they going to up everything else to cover their idea of an image of service (or are they going for a spa thing?) which I consider wasteful. I didn't come there for a snack. They took forever to treat my animal and hurt it badly in the process. My pet came out of there permanently limping and they pressured us into over $800.00's of unnecessary treatments that they snake oil charmed out of us using fear and unprofessional business techniques. read more

My dog was involved in an accident and I required an emergency vet. I chose this location due to the fact it was close to my home. I understood that I would be paying more because of the emergency factor. I took my dog in because she required stitches and I wanted that taken care of in the most expedited fashion possible. I spoke with the vet after dropping my pet off and I was assured that she would be attended to ASAP. I was told she would be getting stitches to repair the wound. After almost 9 hours and four phone calls I finally was told I could come pick up my dog. I spoke with the vet tech and they went over the medication with me. The vet tech was unable to read the name of the prescription so he just said to Google it and That will tell you how to use the medication. I never talked to the vet when I picked up my dog. About two hours later the veterinarian finally called me to go over what they did to my dog. I explained to her that the vet tech was unable to explain to me how do use a medication for my dog. Many things went wrong with my visit to this location. If I ever am in a situation where I need an emergency vet again I will definitely take my pet somewhere else. read more

Very disappointed, brought in a 6 week old kitten that was chocking. My daughter had been performing CPR on the way to 1st Veterinary. Once we arrived, they took the kitten and asked me to decline or accept CPR and cost would be $500-800. I asked what they had done and the dr came to talk to me, she advised me that they had done nothing yet and were only taking his vitals. He was in critical condition and wanted to know what I wanted done, she recommended X-rays bc his throat was so sore. Of course his throat was sore, I had stuck my finger as far as could go and felt nothing. I was unable to pay for CPR (my daughter had been doing in the car) and took Mr Hyde home. I never got any diagnosis and paid $100 for nothing, no evaluation, treatment plan or anything. Mr Hyde was exhausted but after a few hours, he ate and went on to play and make a full recovery but not thanks to 1st Veterinary. read more

The staff at 1st Pet were amazing. Our little Chihuahua came first, but they were attentive to our needs and anxiety. The veterinarian was kind, gentle and very in tune with the needs of our dog, and her owners - us! The Clinic was like a hospital for humans. I didn't want to have to leave my puppy for an emergency overnight stay, but seeing how personable and compassionate this staff is really helped with that process. I would recommend them to anyone. This place is ran by clowns the technicians and the doctors are half ass to say the least. I paid for an examination doctor didn't even inspect my dogs ears teeth or feet wrote a prescription based off all the information I had to tell her because she was too lazy to look issue came back call doctor to get a refill a prescription for the exact same issue I have to repay The exam fee when the doctor misdiagnosed my animal in the first place which usually causes of malpractice lawsuit because when you're not diagnosing the proper issue and prescribing medication that doesn't resolve the issue because it came back obviously and that's the why they want to charge me again but don't have room for me so I'll have to be an emergency visit ....how convenient. Plus the doctor told me it's a known issue with my breed of dog so refill would be necessary on going because it's a known issue with the breed. Just like with asthma you don't just get to see your respiratory doctor and he gives ONE inhaler and send you on your way and tells you good luck in life. If it's a known reoccurring issue with the breed ,it's going to need ongoing treatment or care. What is one prescription going to do to if it's only meant for that one time treatment knowing the issue is going to come back? Theres going to need refills so poor poor planning on their part. read more

Iam a Project Manager for Coit Restoration, so Iam always on the go. But even I can get caught up in moment frantic. I received a call from my wife saying something was wrong with Daisy, I nearly drop the phone.... Daisy is like one of my kids, Since September of 2012 we have cared for her. I could hear Daisy in the background whimpering! OMG I tear up immediately thinking the worst. I don't know how my wife found them but I glad she did. In my wife words, Immediately attentive and got us checked in super fast. (DVM Nicolette Meredith was very attentive of what was going on. She had certainty of the well-being of Daisy, They made her feel comfortable in a quiet room. During the process our nurse brought out a box filled with goodies, drinks, desserts and snacks to keep us comfortable which was amazing..... With that being said I wanna say thank from the bottom of my heart . Daisy is feeling much better and showing good sign of improvement . The caring, and compassionate staff at 1st Pet had not seen me in over two years, and the only time I had been there was for a different pet. Called them at 7pm last night as my older pet was suffering from chronic kidney disease, and needed to be taken to the Rainbow Bridge. I called, briefly explained, gave my name, and when we arrived 30 minutes later, we were immediately taken to a suite, they had all the paperwork ready to go, and the procedure set up. What was already a sorrowful visit was made easier, and hassle free. The compassion, and the thoughtfulness of the staff made the visit all about my pet, and I will be forever thankful for their help and loving care of my fur baby. read more

Last night I rushed my 18 week old puppy in after she was stung by a bee. I showed up without an appointment, as my regular vet office was closed & this showed up close by. The staff was incredible! They checked on my puppy right away to make sure she was okay, ran many tests, and offered us drinks and snacks all while comforting both the puppy and myself. It was such a pleasant visit that I'm considering changing my regular vet now. SO thankful for 1st Pet! read more

I love this vet center!! It is clean, everyone is very pleasant, and the vets I've seen are caring and listen to you. They even bring in a tray of drinks/snacks to enjoy while you wait for the vet. My baby was so good, he got a treat, too (after checking with me that it would be okay). read more

Was very pleased with the staff here. We were seen as an emergency walk in. Staff was beyond amazing, very caring, compassionate and LOVING to our fur baby (dog). Kinda pricey but to be expected as an emergency visit. Would i come back again? Most definately!!! read more
