Galyn's offers a charming, intimate ambiance that feels like an upscale yet casual classic steakhouse, complete with beautiful dark wood paneling, local art, and a stunning table view overlooking the green and the water. We loved that they were open late, because we arrived in town a bit on the later side. They have impeccable, professional service--from the fresh-cracked black pepper to the delicious mocktails, bread & butter, shrimp cocktail, fresh lobster roll, and shared Burrata Caprese (perfect since my daughter wasn't too hungry). I had my birthday dinner here on a cold, rainy night last weekend. It was wonderful. Service was very good and the inside of this restaurant is very charming with art displays on the walls and lots of wood. We had a wedge salad to start which was served a bit differently with their house-made vinaigrette. My husband chose the lobster enchiladas with rice and veggies and a cilantro cream sauce. These were VERY good and I was jealous. I loved them. I chose the fish of the day which was haddock with rice and veggies and a pesto sauce that was SO good! Very fresh and filling. Large filet of fish on this plate. For dessert, I wanted to try the Indian Pudding a la mode and our server informed me that it was very rich and was somewhat like pumpkin pie, ginger cookies and bread pudding. It was something different, but VERY potent and a bit much for us. We swapped it out for the blueberry apple crumble and were much happier with that. I think this is either #1 or #2 best food in bar harbor. I went to 6 different restaurants (Stewmans, the reading room, the oven, la Bella vita, Jordan's,etc) and this was gas. Drinks are good and food is good, they had the best lobster out of all the restaurants too. Soft, flavorful, fresh. Which is ironic cuz stewmans is literally a lobster restaurant and it was mediocre at best. The clam chowder was the perfect creaminess. Everything was perfectly seasoned. We had a lovely table overlooking Bar Harbor -- the view alone was worth it, but the food made it even better! The lobster bisque was rich and flavorful, the oysters were fresh and perfectly light, and the hot lobster roll was absolutely delicious. What really impressed us was our server, Tyler, who paced the meal beautifully. We never felt rushed -- everything came out with perfect timing. We were able to truly enjoy each course: first the bisque, then the oysters, and finally the lobster roll (which they even split for us, along with the slaw). This was our best meal of our trip! We went in for a late lunch on a Friday. This restaurant is very pretty, warm and welcoming. We sat in the front porch which was wonderful. It is small with only 3 tables. Our waitress was pleasant, informative and prompt. We had a bottle of wine. They have a nice selection. Nice place for dinner, a little bit more upscale than most restaurants in the area but still fairly casual. They have labelled vegan options on the menu, though there are not a ton. I had the cauliflower piccata, which was not bad. My mom had one of the two specials for the day, which was a haddock dish, and she was very impressed with her meal. They also have a kids menu. We also got a lobster bisque to go, which I was told was very very good. The inside environment is really nice, and the servers and staff are very professional. Very disappointing experience. We ordered several dishes to give the restaurant a fair chance, but everything we tried was underwhelming. The fish was especially disappointing. It came out looking like half a portion, was overcooked, very plain, and had a strange tangy taste. I've eaten at many seafood restaurants and have tried many different types of fish, so I know what properly cooked seafood should taste like. This was nowhere near the quality I expected, especially for the price. They also upcharged us just to substitute for a salad, which felt excessive. The service was poor as well and made the overall experience even worse. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

We had reservations and it seems to be popular. A couple walked in and was told the wait would be over 45 mins. We sat in the upstairs dining room which was spacious. The waiter was nice and attentive and recited the 4 fish specials of the day. Hubby ordered the duck breast which came with what looked like a brown rice pilaf and broccolini. I ordered the 3 crab cake dinner and it came with the same vegt and rice. We shared a Caesar salad that resembled a green salad, added 2 anchovies - the best part. My cup of lobster bisque was good. I've had better bisque as with the crab cakes (Maine rock crab) , both were too salty. The crab cakes were crispy on the outside. I make crab cakes at home when Dungeness crab is in season and mine taste better, and I've had better ones at other restaurants. 6 of us came here after a recommendation by our tour guide and made reservations for an early dinner. My wife and I split a Crab Cake Dinner and she had a small clam chowder and a side Caesar salad and we splits blueberry apple crisp pie for dessert. Others at our table had lobster rolls and a haddock sandwiches and we all enjoyed our food. Came here for the late lunch with a group of 4 and a child. They put us in the separate room which was amazing. We really appreciated that. Service was super friendly and attentive, we were really happy with them. The menu is very large and has many different options, including a large kids menu. We ordered a lot of things: burger, beet salad, mussels, crab cakes, crab stuffed mushrooms, and shrimp dish for the child. Child plate came with lots of shrimp, amazing wild rice and broccolini. Was the best children's plate we have ever seen. Our toddler loved it very much, even though he is a picky eater. He also love the mussels. All the food was amazing. But we had a friend with us who hadn't been to Bar Harbor. So, we decided to eat here and Galyn's delivered. The mussels appetizer was incredible with a nice twist of Dijon. I can perhaps eat 2 bowls of that. For $14, it was inexpensive! And the stuffed mushrooms were delicious as well. We also ordered a bowl of clam chowder. The serving was huge, but the taste was not your traditional type. So, I asked our server what was in it, and he told me it was made with "salt pork," which gives it a rich, savory taste. It was delicious, but it was like eating potato soup with clams. I honestly won't order it again. My friend enjoyed her bowl of lobster bisque, and we were too full to order entrees. Our server was great, and we were seated near the window with a nice view of the harbor. Why not 5 stars? Well, I asked the market price for steamed lobster and it was $42! And the lobster linguini was $48! That's ridiculous. We went back to the house and ordered 6 steamed hardshell lobsters from Market Basket for $85. So if you're a tourist, save yourself some $$$ and order it from a shack, there are so many of those in Maine. read more

Stopped by this place after going on a cruise on a schooner we stopped here for dinner. It was before the rush so it was an early dinner so we got a seat by the window looking at the harbor. Service was excellent and the waiter was helpful on choices. By now I had enough whole lobster and I wanted something different. Started with a Cesar salad with anchovies and lobster bisque (still wanted lobster but didn't want the work). I like the Cesar salad but I don't get the anchovies back home so that made it special. The lobster bisque was good, I mean the seafood in Maine is delicious so the soup was meaty with lobster. I had the Frenchman bay stew. Fresh seafood is good period. And if you want to get the popular IPA called lunch, around the corner, they serve it for eight dollars in a 16 ounce pint. Here they serve it in a tulip glass for $12. Galyn's looks like it's a small restaurant from the outside but it can accommodate large families and groups. Casual dining all around is as people were in t-shirts or hiking gear. Only a few were business casual. I had lobster rolls every day from restaurants across Bar Harbor and this roll was a three star out of five. For a five out of five the lobster has to be soft, fresh, without pieces of shell...tossed in the perfect mayo or a warm butter side...toasted buttered bread. I love the Lazy-Lobster menu item but my order when it came did not look like the pics I saw online and was definitely too tough. My table ordered 3 apps, two types of soup, five main dishes and one dessert. Could not get decent pics of everything as people started eating before I could snap. Seems everyone got asparagus and rice as sides --The crab cakes were small but tasted amazing. Arrived on the area a bit early so we could enjoy lunch before we boarded the Margaret Todd Schooner Windjammer sail. This restaurant has fantastic ambiance. We dined on the second floor in front of a picturesque backdrop of the sea, we could see our ship on the dock we were so close. They even have a sign telling patrons not to use their phone so as to not disturb others dining, I love that!! Anyway, I finally had a lobster roll with drawn butter and double chips since I don't eat cole slaw. My husband had the "lazy lobster" which is lobster already removed from the shell and cut up in drawn butter and sherry. Served with brown rice pilaf and asparagus. My son had one of the 3 fish specials offered for the day, the grilled halibut with pesto tomatoes and olives and again the brown rice pilaf and asparagus. He also has a cup of the lobster bisque soup which he said was delicious. My husband and son enjoyed their meals. Mine was good, but it was almost too lukewarm. I would have liked if it had been hotter. It was tasty, but having eating lobster at several establishments over the last several days it wasn't the best I've had. That being said, it was an upscale dining experience and the food overall was very good. My son really enjoyed the grilled halibut, it looked amazing, and super fresh.
