    Lobster bisque and clam chowdah!
    Sergio M.

This was hands down the best meal, best ambiance and best service of our 10 day New England roadtrip. Galyns was recommended to us by the local receptionist do the hotel where we were staying in Bar Harbor. We arrived for an early dinner at 5 pm and from the initial greeting we felt like we were in someone's home. Their menu is seafood heavy and inventive. We settled on a whole lobster as an appetizer ($36 market price) which was buttery, succulent and super fresh. The rice pilaf and broccolini that it came with were the perfect accompaniments. For the main course, my partner ordered a grilled salmon and I ordered the haddock with a lemon caper sauce. A week later and I"m still savoring the haddock. Flaky and slightly meaty, the sauce was just zesty and frothy to invite you back for another bite. The capers was an added touch and really brought the dish together. As far as the grilled salmon, you can't get fish fresher than what we had. The hostess was kind enough to steer me through a refresher course on how to crack and eat lobster (with a big on of course!). The waiter was skilled and professional, knowing when to interject, provide suggestions and provide options to make our overall experience even better. I would definitely return and can't say enough good things about the restaurant. Happy eating and bon appetit!

Nice, upscale restaurant near the shore line on main street in Bar Harbor. I'm not the biggest seafood person but when in Rome, right? I got the lobster bisque and one of the specials, which was a halibut with chimichurri sauce, broccolini and wild rice. Our waitress took great care of us and was super patient as we asked her to repeat the specials about 3 times (apparently we just can't keep halibut and haddock straight lol). The halibut was cooked perfectly, tender and still juicy, and the chimichurri sauce had a lovely delicate flavor. Definitely put this one on your list if you're visiting the area!

Maine Combination with crabcakes, lobster tail, and scallops. Served with rice, sauces, and a vegetable

Reservations fill up quickly during summer months but Corey was able to accommodate our group of three, thank you! 8 year old chatted with Kate at the front desk about Robert McCloskey, clam chowder, and blueberries for Sal. Vegetarian friendly restaurant. Ocean view is pretty. Clam chowder 5/5 Maine Combination 5/5 especially if you want to sample a variety of seafood. Squash cake plate 5/5, red onion marmalade with the mint raita add a nice dimension to the dish Mushroom Pate 4/5, eating mushrooms cold can be an acquired taste but glad we tried. The crostini can be tad better.

What an amazing dinner for our first night in Bar Harbor. Galyn's offers a charming, intimate ambiance that feels like an upscale yet casual classic steakhouse, complete with beautiful dark wood paneling, local art, and a stunning table view overlooking the green and the water. We loved that they were open late, because we arrived in town a bit on the later side. They have impeccable, professional service--from the fresh-cracked black pepper to the delicious mocktails, bread & butter, shrimp cocktail, fresh lobster roll, and shared Burrata Caprese (perfect since my daughter wasn't too hungry). We topped it all off with a phenomenal Maine Blueberry-Apple Crisp. Between the good pricing, excellent food, and a view that alone was worth the visit, it was a wonderful, memorable meal.

Made reservations while we were visiting and was such a great time! The food, staff and back room we were in was perfect. The waitstaff were very kind and helped us pick up what to order as so many things looked so good! The smaller back room was nice to be in and not overalls crowded or loud. It was a great place to go for a nice meal! Recommend in your in the area!

I had my birthday dinner here on a cold, rainy night last weekend. It was wonderful. Service was very good and the inside of this restaurant is very charming with art displays on the walls and lots of wood. We had a wedge salad to start which was served a bit differently with their house-made vinaigrette. My husband chose the lobster enchiladas with rice and veggies and a cilantro cream sauce. These were VERY good and I was jealous. I loved them. I chose the fish of the day which was haddock with rice and veggies and a pesto sauce that was SO good! Very fresh and filling. Large filet of fish on this plate. For dessert, I wanted to try the Indian Pudding a la mode and our server informed me that it was very rich and was somewhat like pumpkin pie, ginger cookies and bread pudding. It was something different, but VERY potent and a bit much for us. We swapped it out for the blueberry apple crumble and were much happier with that. All in all, a wonderful dinner on a rainy night for my birthday. We'd happily come back to this spot for a date night while in town.

Everything we tried at this place was super delicious! I started to get any drink that had blueberries in it and this place hit the mark on it. Seafood fettuccini was also amazing and wow it was filling, so much in it! Server was great at helping us pick out menu items and was very friendly. We were in the back room upstairs and we felt like we were in a nice small restaurant dining room, was very quiet and relaxing.

An amazing early dinner at Galyn's! We wanted a view to enjoy our meal. Kelley took care of us & did a fine job with suggestions from the Menu. She did NOT disappoint with suggestions. We started with a dozen Maine Oysters that came with the best Mignonette sauce! For the meal & dessert, Grilled Halibut, Lobster Fettuccine and a cup of their famous Blueberry Cobbler. All delicious! If you find yourself in Bar Harbour, ME, this is a definite stop to feed your soul!

Great location. Service was impeccable and the food was great! The Shrimp Lafayette is delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. No wonder why this place has been open for so many decades! Looking forward to going back!

Best meal in Bar Harbor. Very unique vegetarian options - we ordered the squash cakes and cauliflower plate - so good. The oysters were the absolute best we have had so far. Service was awesome. Table upstairs with great view was perfection. Love this place. They give you cute glasses with your old soaker blueberry soda. The cheesecake and blueberry cobbler were decadent.

we waited about 45mins on a saturday night, and got seated around 8:15pm. the staff were pretty friendly, and food didn't take too long. I tried the: - galyn's nachos - bar island burger: unfortunately I ordered medium and the meat was quite medium rare - blueberry apple crisp: my favorite, loved the balance of sweetness and tartness - creme brûlée

We had a lovely table overlooking Bar Harbor -- the view alone was worth it, but the food made it even better! The lobster bisque was rich and flavorful, the oysters were fresh and perfectly light, and the hot lobster roll was absolutely delicious. What really impressed us was our server, Tyler, who paced the meal beautifully. We never felt rushed -- everything came out with perfect timing. We were able to truly enjoy each course: first the bisque, then the oysters, and finally the lobster roll (which they even split for us, along with the slaw). Speaking of slaw, their vinegar-based coleslaw was a pleasant surprise -- I'd never had it that way before and absolutely loved it. A wonderful lunch experience all around -- great food, service, and view!

4.25 stars Service was fantastic Menu had multiple vegetables and we loved the Cauliflower The seafood fettuccine was a large portion - shrimp, lobster and fish were perfectly cooked. The mussels were a little off and the scallops were average. As a whole the dish was good but not amazing The pork chop was delicious The blueberry crisp was okay Overall quality and prices were good for the area

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes and do go there

Do they have good gluten free options?

I feel sure they do. I can think of several items on the menu that would be gluten free as I understand it.

    Is it casual or upscale?

It's casual. Could you make it upscale? Sure, because there are white table clothes and the ambiance is very nice. However, many of the customers seemed to be tourists walking in off the streets and dressed comfortably.

Clam chowder: super delicious and passed the spoon test! (I like my chowders thick so a spoon should float on top) Bangin Shrimp: seasoning and sauce were bangin! Great stuff and the buttery grilled flamed pita added a beautiful touch Cadillac fries: crispy fries with melty cheese, hot sauce, bbq sauce, chipotle mayo and toooed with bacon. We inhaled these. Mac + rac: fall off the bone rips and the Mac was killer. Mixed in with street corn added a great change up and all went so well together. Larger shells cooked perfectly and super cheesy, this was a great dish. Highly recommend, wish I could have tried the Blueberry Pie because that looks insane, was way too full after crushing the other dishes and washed down with a blueberry beer and an extra dirty martini!

My hubby ordered their Cubano sandwich while I ordered a cheeseburger. He loved his Cubano, which came with a side of mac 'n cheese. The mac 'n cheese was light in flavor, I think because of the kind of cheese used. I prefer more flavor, but it wasn't bad either. My( burger was quite large, and it was really tasty... very nicely seasoned beef patty, and it had all the things I like... cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle.... and catsup. I was very happy. It came with fries, but I had my fill of fries with all the lobster rolls I had ordered along the way, so I didn't eat them. Plus, there was a slice of blueberry pie calling out to me, so I wanted to blow my calories with the pie... and so glad I did cuz it was another spectacular piece of blueberry pie. Against my will, I split it with my hubby. Lol. It was a great way to end our meal. (Turns out we never got dinner that night cuz we were so full from such a nice lunch.) Side Street Cafe is definitely going on my radar if we're ever fortunate enough to return to Bar Harbor.
