We made a reservation for our first night in town based on the recommendation of our food tour guide. What a meal it was. Inside is a typical modern upscale restaurant with a second floor that overlooks the park and water. We began with a smooth lobster bisque and I had the haddock special. The special was prepared over glaze with sweety drop peppers and was beautifully prepared. Light and flaky, but with a lot of flavor. It's far too easy for these to come out overdone, but this was done wonderfully. I enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend if someone was looking for an upscale evening. read more

When the latter party arrived and asked the Hostess about the earlier seating she couldn't have been more unaccommodating. Likened to an old school marm in a film taking place in the 1800's....a ridiculously stern demeanor and not what a Hostess is meant to do- But Greet. She then had a vendetta, circling the table telling us what to do several times. It was BAFFLING. She next told the proprietor that we took a phone call at the table. The Proprietor comes over to scold us! Still Flabbergasted....we are 2 people sitting across a table. Our conversation stops so that we can answer the phone for a quick question taking less than 2 minutes. It's a full restaurant, a table of 6 next to us, everyone is engaged talking, eating, drinking. This was hands down the best meal, best ambiance and best service of our 10 day New England roadtrip. Galyns was recommended to us by the local receptionist do the hotel where we were staying in Bar Harbor. We arrived for an early dinner at 5 pm and from the initial greeting we felt like we were in someone's home. Their menu is seafood heavy and inventive. We settled on a whole lobster as an appetizer ($36 market price) which was buttery, succulent and super fresh. The rice pilaf and broccolini that it came with were the perfect accompaniments. For the main course, my partner ordered a grilled salmon and I ordered the haddock with a lemon caper sauce. A week later and I"m still savoring the haddock. Flaky and slightly meaty, the sauce was just zesty and frothy to invite you back for another bite. The capers was an added touch and really brought the dish together. As far as the grilled salmon, you can't get fish fresher than what we had. The hostess was kind enough to steer me through a refresher course on how to crack and eat lobster (with a big on of course!). The waiter was skilled and professional, knowing when to interject, provide suggestions and provide options to make our overall experience even better. Nice, upscale restaurant near the shore line on main street in Bar Harbor. I'm not the biggest seafood person but when in Rome, right? I got the lobster bisque and one of the specials, which was a halibut with chimichurri sauce, broccolini and wild rice. Our waitress took great care of us and was super patient as we asked her to repeat the specials about 3 times (apparently we just can't keep halibut and haddock straight lol). The halibut was cooked perfectly, tender and still juicy, and the chimichurri sauce had a lovely delicate flavor. Definitely put this one on your list if you're visiting the area! read more

What an amazing dinner for our first night in Bar Harbor. Galyn's offers a charming, intimate ambiance that feels like an upscale yet casual classic steakhouse, complete with beautiful dark wood paneling, local art, and a stunning table view overlooking the green and the water. We loved that they were open late, because we arrived in town a bit on the later side. I had my birthday dinner here on a cold, rainy night last weekend. It was wonderful. Service was very good and the inside of this restaurant is very charming with art displays on the walls and lots of wood. We had a wedge salad to start which was served a bit differently with their house-made vinaigrette. My husband chose the lobster enchiladas with rice and veggies and a cilantro cream sauce. These were VERY good and I was jealous. I loved them. I chose the fish of the day which was haddock with rice and veggies and a pesto sauce that was SO good! Very fresh and filling. Large filet of fish on this plate. For dessert, I wanted to try the Indian Pudding a la mode and our server informed me that it was very rich and was somewhat like pumpkin pie, ginger cookies and bread pudding. It was something different, but VERY potent and a bit much for us. We swapped it out for the blueberry apple crumble and were much happier with that. We had a lovely table overlooking Bar Harbor -- the view alone was worth it, but the food made it even better! Drinks are good and food is good, they had the best lobster out of all the restaurants too. Soft, flavorful, fresh. Nice place for dinner, a little bit more upscale than most restaurants in the area but still fairly casual. They have labelled vegan options on the menu, though there are not a ton. I had the cauliflower piccata, which was not bad. My mom had one of the two specials for the day, which was a haddock dish, and she was very impressed with her meal. They also have a kids menu. We also got a lobster bisque to go, which I was told was very very good. The inside environment is really nice, and the servers and staff are very professional. We had reservations and it seems to be popular. A couple walked in and was told the wait would be over 45 mins. We sat in the upstairs dining room which was spacious. The waiter was nice and attentive and recited the 4 fish specials of the day. Hubby ordered the duck breast which came with what looked like a brown rice pilaf and broccolini. I ordered the 3 crab cake dinner and it came with the same vegt and rice. We shared a Caesar salad that resembled a green salad, added 2 anchovies - the best part. My cup of lobster bisque was good. I've had better bisque as with the crab cakes (Maine rock crab) , both were too salty. The crab cakes were crispy on the outside. I make crab cakes at home when Dungeness crab is in season and mine taste better, and I've had better ones at other restaurants. 6 of us came here after a recommendation by our tour guide and made reservations for an early dinner. My wife and I split a Crab Cake Dinner and she had a small clam chowder and a side Caesar salad and we splits blueberry apple crisp pie for dessert. Others at our table had lobster rolls and a haddock sandwiches and we all enjoyed our food. Danika was our server and was excellent, following up as necessary and chatting as she has a nice personality. Came here for the late lunch with a group of 4 and a child. They put us in the separate room which was amazing. We really appreciated that. Service was super friendly and attentive, we were really happy with them. The menu is very large and has many different options, including a large kids menu. We ordered a lot of things: burger, beet salad, mussels, crab cakes, crab stuffed mushrooms, and shrimp dish for the child. Child plate came with lots of shrimp, amazing wild rice and broccolini. Was the best children's plate we have ever seen. Our toddler loved it very much, even though he is a picky eater. He also love the mussels. All the food was amazing. Very disappointing experience. We ordered several dishes to give the restaurant a fair chance, but everything we tried was underwhelming. The fish was especially disappointing. It came out looking like half a portion, was overcooked, very plain, and had a strange tangy taste. I've eaten at many seafood restaurants and have tried many different types of fish, so I know what properly cooked seafood should taste like. This was nowhere near the quality I expected, especially for the price. They also upcharged us just to substitute for a salad, which felt excessive. Normally, we won't eat at Bar Harbor because it's really pricey and it's a tourist trap, and you can get better seafood somewhere else without breaking the bank. But we had a friend with us who hadn't been to Bar Harbor. So, we decided to eat here and Galyn's delivered. The mussels appetizer was incredible with a nice twist of Dijon. I can perhaps eat 2 bowls of that. For $14, it was inexpensive! And the stuffed mushrooms were delicious as well. We also ordered a bowl of clam chowder. The serving was huge, but the taste was not your traditional type. So, I asked our server what was in it, and he told me it was made with "salt pork," which gives it a rich, savory taste. It was delicious, but it was like eating potato soup with clams. I honestly won't order it again. My friend enjoyed her bowl of lobster bisque, and we were too full to order entrees. Our server was great, and we were seated near the window with a nice view of the harbor. Why not 5 stars? Well, I asked the market price for steamed lobster and it was $42! And the lobster linguini was $48! That's ridiculous. We went back to the house and ordered 6 steamed hardshell lobsters from Market Basket for $85. So if you're a tourist, save yourself some $$$ and order it from a shack, there are so many of those in Maine. read more

Their Maine Combination plate was a great sampler for their various seafoods - the lobster was perfection, and their 3 dipping sauces complimented each of the items well. Both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque were wonderful. As would be expected in Maine, they have a decent selection of delicious blueberry items. Their blueberry lemonade was super refreshing, and their blueberry margarita was a great twist on the classic margarita. Grabbing the Maine blueberry-apple crisp for dessert is a must - the warm crisp w/ the cold ice cream... Yum! Service here was great. Stopped by this place after going on a cruise on a schooner we stopped here for dinner. It was before the rush so it was an early dinner so we got a seat by the window looking at the harbor. Service was excellent and the waiter was helpful on choices. By now I had enough whole lobster and I wanted something different. Started with a Cesar salad with anchovies and lobster bisque (still wanted lobster but didn't want the work). I like the Cesar salad but I don't get the anchovies back home so that made it special. The lobster bisque was good, I mean the seafood in Maine is delicious so the soup was meaty with lobster. I had the Frenchman bay stew. Fresh seafood is good period. This was a recommendation from our waiter. My wife had the stuff pork chop and she said it was good along with the broccolini.
