This place looks super cute on the outside, and the inside is lovely as well. It's also conveniently right by the East River Ferry and Transmitter Park. But for some reason it's one of those restaurants you want to love so badly but can't because the food is just.. off, and the price is too high to justify "just OK" food. I've been 4 times now, and each time I leave regretting that I brought my friends here. I think this restaurant can be summed up like that. Lots of love for this place. I celebrated my birthday here with family and friends- we changed the reservation on them twice to up the number and they were warm and accommodating. Really happy, positive vibe all around, soft light (we looked great) and a nice mix of old school hip hop to soundtrack it. Between all of us we pretty much tried everything and ate off of everyone's plates. Big ups to the Mickey's Salad, RIBS (omg), Watermelon Salad, TMNT Pizza, Red Snapper, Squid Ink Pasta, Pork with Quinoa ("I don't even like quinoa and I love this") etc. Great food. I was wondering if all of the press would ruin it but it was completely wonderful. As a Greenpoint local I'll be back again soon and it would be super cool if Bill Murray would like to swing by to make my cocktail. read more

Went for dinner on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by their weekly special. Chef makes dishes from ingredients left over from the week in an effort of food conservation. And for a mere $21 per person (not including drinks). Bravo to this effort. The food was amazing and we were stuffed. A mix of goat cheese & squash flat bread, a fantastic scallop pasta, seared Trout w/pistachio crust, salad and sorbet for dessert. Only negative: It's my second time to the restaurant and still think the staff needs to get their act together. Forgot drinks, forgot to give us water and at times just forgot us. Despite to say they are warm and nice, maybe just a little forgetful. Will be back for this great Sunday deal. What a great concept. read more

It is 3 stars for the food, otherwise I'd give one star. We show up on a Saturday evening without a reservation at 8pm. There were 4 people in front of us. We were told 20 min. wait. I hate to wait for a table, but I broke my own rule. In a couple minutes few tables left from the bar area and we were told we will get a table shortly. It took the host at least 8-10 minutes after 4 tables left at the bar; to seat us. With zero urgency, she walked back and forth to the kitchen area to clean the tables, set the tables, bring water glasses and only after ALL 4 tables were set; she sat us. At this time there were 8 people behind us lining up for a table. It is always a red flag, when you go first into a restaurant and there are more people waiting for food then people eating. Finally we sat down, our server comes again with zero urgency. Takes our order and goes to the bar and starts chatting with one of the customers for at least 3 minutes before putting our order in. Another red flag is when you see a server without a tray. Doesn't work!! While we sip our drinks, two other tables that got sat after us get their food ahead of us :( Enough complaints, when our pizza and pork chop comes everything changes. Probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. In NY you can get great food most of the time, but service is a hard thing to do. Saturday evening at 8pm you have to be on your game, turning tables, smiles, can do attitude.... otherwise you loose guests immediately. read more

Went on a Sunday morning and was immediately impressed by the simple decor and classic looking bar. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The smoked trout salad was amazing! Also, I'd recommend the Betty Ford for those who want a non-alcoholic drink. Glad to have found this spot! My friends ordered the shakshouka, mushroom kale hash, and brunch bowl. If you had told me 18 years ago when I lived in NY that I'd someday be taking a train FROM Manhattan TO Greenpoint for dinner I'd have laughed at you, but when I was visiting recently I'm so glad I did! This restaurant is right by the water, which made for a nice view on the walk there, and it was easy to get to by train. The food was outstanding, and the drinks were really good as well. I had the Big Pot O' Mussels, and believe me, it IS a big pot of mussels and I ate the entire thing. My friend had gnocchi with some sort of BBQ inspired sauce, which was slightly less successful, but still good. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy, as it should be. We had a trio of ice creams for dessert, and they were each amazing. I highly recommend this place, and I'll be back. read more

I have been here twice, once when it first opened, and then again last week. I don't remember anything from the first visit, other than, I didn't like the Stracciatella dish. So not that great of a memory. The reason we decided to go back, was the increase in good reviews and the menu looked so good. New experience, not memorable, overall meh. The beer served has bad ratings on ratebeer, the pizza badly needed some sodium, and the platters were so large that we felt we should have been told that we over-ordered. The weirdest part of the night, was when we first put our order in, drinks and food, the first thing to arrive at our table was a lone metal condiment cup filled with ketchup. Petite surf and turf was a small below average fatty piece of sirloin, the butter was larger than all the mini shrimp combined. Gnocci portion was the size of a kids meal, but delicious. 10 oz draft beer ranges $7-$9, 10 oz, not even 12 oz!! $12 glassses of wine, topped off with $16 cocktails. Looked at all the 5 star reviews, went there and was fooled by Yelpers! Read carefully bad reviews! Came really hungry and anything would taste good, but none of 3 meals we ordered did. We ordered nachos, mushroom hash with poached eggs and pizza(because we saw a brick oven). How could you mess up those dishes? You must be really talented! I didn't want a second slice of pizza, it lacked cheese and salt. Mushroom hash didn't taste bad, because it was simply tasteless. Aioli wasn't salty again and couldn't help the dish. Nachos were nothing special for a $12, which is way above average price. Ambiance is very nice and it is definitely pleasant to be there. We felt very welcomed and service was nice, but food is just edible and subpar. Actually nobody asked how was the food, probably they know something! Take a chef for a training! read more

Very poor service. Our server was aloof and inattentive. I waited for my main (a flavorless and burnt pizza) about five minutes after others had been served before I had to call it to her attention. My friends were almost finished their meals when I started. I asked another server for pepper, who told me I should ask my own server - who, of course, was MIA. Honestly so disappointed with my most recent experience at 21 Greenpoint after 2 wonderful experiences historically. Something must have changed in the expected quality of service, and food, in the last 8 months because last weekends visit was absolutely horrible. We were excited to share our love for 21 Greenpoint with another couple and made a reservation for a Saturday night. The waitress lacked knowledge of the menu despite being very nice, the air conditioner was dripping condensation into our food, and BEFORE being served our $260 check, the hostess asked us to please hurry up and leave so she could seat another table. As someone who has spent over 8 years in the service industry, if my hostess sabotaged a potential $60 tip for a reservation that she poorly planned for, I'd be livid. I was absolutely livid as a customer! We'd barely been at the restaurant for 90 minutes and had waited 15 minutes for cocktails and 30 minutes for food, both of which were mediocre at best. What an absolutely disappointing and unacceptable experience. We'll never be back, which is a shame considering how much we've enjoyed our time here before. Button up your service and put your customers first. Your lack of planning does not excuse poor customer service. read more

The staff was nice and place looked very pretty inside, per New York standards I'd call it spacious. I went there on a Sunday, in between menus so the selection was limited. We had a Burger and their pepperoni pizza. Pretty simple. The burger despite the price tag was comparable to a big mac. Cheap, dry meat, basic bun with very thin fries. The waitress didn't ask if I wanted it rare, medium etc. The pizza came burnt and definitely not worth the price. Also they serve beer in thin and tall glasses, that I find more suitable for orange juice. read more

Warning: all of the good reviews I am convinced come from employees and friends of the owner because this place is awful. I go out to eat often in Brooklyn and have had great meals, this not being one of them. The lettuce wraps were cold and had no taste. The cocktails, were too sweet to drink. We have never returned a meal in our lives, and this was the very first time. The pasta was not edible, we both took a bite and even out of politeness could not fathom finishing it. We sent it back and asked for a new one because it was so salty. It came back, (probably the same pasta) and it was still awful. Our sever was nice, the restaurant looks cute but the food is so over priced. Do yourself a favor and spend your good hard earned money elsewhere. Such an adorable place at the end of a dead end street. Drinks are very strong, which for some is great but for me I like it to taste good. I had the granola and it was great! Some of the peaches were a bit hard and not ripe, but the rest was delish. My friends had the pizza and they loved it! They also enjoyed their mimosas. The staff was super friendly. The great chef here deserves a better FOH staff. Our server apparently ended her shift midway through our meal and left without saying a word (at 9:00 on a Saturday night). That left only one server for the entire restaurant who seemed overwhelmed and irritated by the task. She mentioned she "usually only works brunch" and wasn't used to so many tables. Dirty plates were left in front of us for 30 minutes, entrees came out at inconsistent times and it took a long time to find someone who could bring us the check. Meanwhile, several staff were standing around the bar in the front playing with their phones while tables in the back of the restaurant were left unattended. The food, especially the squid and spaghetti, was fantastic with interesting and unexpected flavors. The wine list was small, but well selected. It's unfortunate that the servers and management team have so little regard for the customers who have come to experience chef's cooking. read more

We walked in opening night, no reservation 3 adults, 2 kids the stunning hostess asked me to wait a moment while another floor manager/ seater worked her magic and brought us right to our table. We walked all the way in and straight to the back and got a friendly "Hi" and a wave from Homer on the way. Soothing ambiance, perfect lighting (not too bright or dark) and was that A Tribe Called Quest I heard playing? Can't get much better right? Until the food. Ian, our waiter accommodated our picky party of 5 (no seafood, no pork please) perfectly. He asked what we were considering, Definitely the Margherita Pizza and definitely the fried late summer eggplant. Ian recommended we also try the hand cut tagliatelle as well as the ugly vegetable snack. Ian was great, breaking down the menu to us all while kindly refilling my 7 and 4 year olds water glasses which they repeatedly shoved under his face throughout his explanation of everything. We didnt wait 10 minutes before the ugly vegetables came. This plate was a visual work of art and had me reaching for more vegetables (that i never eat, like radishes and turnips) long after they were all gone. But before we finished that, out came the late summer eggplant. Also mouth watering visually, but I didnt expect for them to magically disintegrate in your mouth leaving only the drizzle of hot chili oil (that kicks this dish up 10 levels) as the only evidence of it ever having existed at all. Yup. That good. Next came the Margherita Pizza. I just came back from Italy and its not fair to review any pizza anywhere else after eating the best I've ever had in my life. So I focused on devouring the tagliatelle which showed up on our table a few moments later, because i mean, really how good can this pizza be. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The kids naturally wouldnt stop talking about it so when I finally surrenederd and took a slice, my heart skipped a beat. It was perfect. The slightest of crisps on the bottom. Fresh tasting dough. Perfect in sauce, cheese and spice ratio. The crust was incredible but when I saw my sister use the crust to sop up some oil from the tagliatelle I had to steal back another slice from my 4 year old to do the same. This pizza was the work of an artist who clearly used love as a main ingredient. My favorite of the night ummm besides everything else was the Tagliatelle. Fresh handcut pasta, smothered in zucchini and garlic heavenly-ness. My only complaint was that i needed more. MORE, MORE, MORE. Basking in the glow from all this incredibleness my sister and I quickly browsed the drink menu - good wine list. And all the special drinks sounded intriguing, i always liked a good liquid nitrogen infused cocktail but we settled for the punk n pebbles which tasted like Autumn in a glass all spicy but not heavy, and the depth finder which was lemony and refreshing but not too sweet or weak. Both, spot on and perfect for a summer/fall cuspy after dinner drink. And very typically of our experience here thoughout dinner dessert did not disappoint either. Apple pie with an oatmeal crisp topped with a lavender creme and a crack fusion milkshake via local creamery Oddfellows cornbread icecream. Overall. Incredible food, drinks and service, through and through. Nice decour (were those jarred pickles shelved in the back), the kids had a great time and the people eating around us looked pretty satisfied as well. Can't wait to go back. read more

This place will not remain a secret for long. The atmosphere is perfect. The right amount of light and the music wasn't too loud. The menu is inventive and everything was delish. My boyfriend and I just had dinner here for the first time. We're neighborhood locals, so it's nice to know there's a sustainable restaurant that prides itself on quality ingredient sourcing in the area. The food is 4 stars for sure. I don't even really like eggplant, and the eggplant fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The pizzas were certainly good, but not the best we've had. Paulie Gee's is still a little better. Next time we're looking forward to trying other non-pizza menu items. The dim lighting and decor is warm and romantic, however we must have come just before the Saturday night rush because it was peculiarly dead. I also think this may be because they're still so new. I prefer when a restaurant is at least half-full on a Saturday night so I don't feel like we are too much of the focus for staff. About that... we believe our server had good intentions, however there were some nuanced remarks and actions that we perceived as being off-putting and socially awkward. My boyfriend and I are in our mid-twenties, however when we go out we know how to eat and have no problem occasionally splurging when the food is top-notch. That said, after overhearing our server tell the 4-top next to us about the $95 steak special, we realized he messed up by failing to inform us of the same special. Could it be because we were not in the mood for alcohol that evening since we just went to the gym and we look young-ish so he assumed we wouldn't be able to afford it, so heck why even bother telling us? Maybe I'm reading too much into it too, but the point is you tell EVERYONE about all your specials, not just parties you perceive as being older/more likely to afford them. Then, our server asked if we'd like to finish off our final pizza with a glass of wine (mind you there was only one slice left of the last pizza we ordered at this point)... sorry but it's a little weird to ask if we'd like wine when we're clearly wrapping up the meal. Again, not at all rude of him, just awkward. He also asked us, as we were finishing the second of two pizzas we ordered, whether we were waiting on any more pizzas. Isn't that your job to know how many courses we've been served? A couple of other things happen I prefer not to go into in this review. The point is, good service does not entail making guests feel uncomfortable. The general manager was extremely attentive and asked us how our courses were or if we needed anything, such as red pepper chili flakes, at the right time. We appreciated his consideration. We will be back. Hopefully when we return, the service will be a little smoother. read more

I live a block away and I've been coming here since its prior incarnation. The look and feel of the place are exactly what you would want in a neighborhood place, perfect soundtrack, great cocktails, friendly staff and bartenders. The problem is the food. Entirely inconsistent and often pretty subpar. The pizzas are generally excellent and you can make a nice meal of salads, wine and pizzas without the waits encountered at the tourist trap across the street. Where 21 Greenpoint gets into trouble however is when they get a bit more ambitious. The pastas are lacking in flavor, execution and ingredients. The steak is something you spit into a napkin. The bass, which was a listed "special" was fishy tasting, improperly fileted (i almost choked on cartilage and bone), inadequately seared and gelatinous, swimming in a "sauce" I could only classify as a pool of watered worcesteshire. They no longer offer any of the specials and promotions which made a visit for locals worthwhile. Prices here can easily soar to $80/head. Given the food quality and price point at 21 Greenpoint, until they revamp their food program, I would stick to the drinks and pizza. read more

That way I know that I need to pay $80 for a satisfying bowl of gnocchi. What a great discovery, and super happy it's only blocks from my place. The food was delicious, really unique menu too. Our dining experience was excellent. It's an elegant, yet casual setting which we loved since we were celebrating that night. My last experience - we ordered the Caesar which came as underdressed whole pieces of romaine, nothing special. Interior is super cozy and unpretentious, a classic neighborhood joint. Pizzaiolo on site is veramente bravissima! Wood burning oven delivers a plethora of pizzas with toppings that would make a Napolitano curious. Scallops cooked perfectly and their Neptune Caesar was quite tasty. Bartender was amicable and a true mixologist. A variety of Italian bitters awaits your consumption behind their beautiful bar. Try the marshmallow calzone...an exquisite gooey treat hot from their wood burning oven. Staff is super friendly. I have been to many restaurants in BK, this is one of the best. Where to begin...for starters this is the first review I have written. Slept on it, but couldn't shake off this horrible experience. We had reservations for dinner for 4 at 7pm on a saturday night. 1) Server was kind but was not familiar with the menu. Drink menu has a selection of several draft beers. Asked for the IPA and was told "we don't have draft tap" Pointed to the menu and she said she didn't know why that was there.....they must pour the bottles into a frosted glass..... 2) Ordered a cocktail that tasted like water. 3) Had the mussels which tasted like nothing. Broth was as bland as water. 4) After an hour and a half, at 8:30, our table of four who had spent $250 dollars were told by the hostess that we needed to leave immediately as they had other reservations to seat. Apologies that our $85 an hour wasn't sufficient. Not to mention on the way out there were several open tables at the front. 5) The condensation from the air conditioning was literally dripping onto our table the entire dinner. TLDR: The food was sub par, the restaurant decor was ok, service was underwhelming at best. Skip it and choose one of the other amazing restaurants in the area. read more
