Chose this place after reading the positive reviews, but, unfortunately, this was not a good Yelp find. No issues with the service, and dishes came out at a nice pace. The food, however, was less desirable. Split pea soup with ham: good amount and texture but over salty. Tiny bacon wrapped steak filets: overcooked (see pic). Garlic chili prawns: less would have been more in the sauce and oil department. Star anise and orange pork ribs: nice tenderness but too much in the way of salt again. Baked mushrooms caps: the worst dish as far as value and taste--4 caps stuffed with some ground sausage meat that tasted like it came off a frozen pizza, and each cap was topped with a poof of artificial looking and tasting cheese whiz-like substance. As my companion put it, this place was like a higher priced Chili's--pre-made, frozen food, which is reheated. No chef required. read more

Overrated. We went here because we wanted a nice meal on our last night after a fantastic trip. This was suggested to us by the person at the front desk at the Sundial. Clearly what is considered 'nice' is relative. Don't expect anything amazing here and it is a bit pricey to boot. For starters we had beers and I asked about the Bavarian lager to which the waitress replied that it was 'like Budweiser'. What?! This is a 'nice' restaurant and you're trying to sell me a beer with Bud as the litmus test? I gave her the benefit of a doubt because maybe she doesn't drink beer but it did taste cheap. If your table wants bread- it's $2. We were also sold on the goulash which was a special that night. We had all had goulash at the Rendevous cafeteria style place on the slopes earlier and it was delicious! However, 21 Steps' version was a thin Dinty Moore version. We were completely conned. For the mains- friends got the lamb (it looked really good), and the salmon and the steak which looked fine, but again overpriced. I got the pork chop with what on the menu said bacon and onion chutney. I was expecting a bacon and onion relish. What I got instead was barbeque sauce with some bacon bits and onion in it. It was awful. If I had known I was going to get bbq I wouldn't have ordered it- for all I know they used KC Masterpiece as the base. After I scraped off the 'chutney' the pork was cooked perfectly. Other than that it was blah. I'm sure there are nicer places in town, just maybe not on the stroll. Oh and it's 21 steps from the front door to the host table. read more

There's actually many steps (I'm guessing in the neighborhood of say, 21) to get up to the seating area. In an ironic twist, they had just painted the hand rail so we were faced with the insurmountable task of an unsupported ascent. On a sunny Sunday afternoon after having spent the day chilling by Lost Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes close to the village, decided to head for dinner with a friend. On the suggestion of locals decided to give this place a try. We arrived just before the dinner rush started, so I suggest you show up before 6pm to get your choice of table and fast delivery of food. The decor is very basic and doesn't meet the typical Whistler higher end furniture selection. The service was friendly and unassuming. We ordered an appetizer which was the short ribs with a soy sauce which was the highlight of my meal, the seafood pasta on the other hand was just ok. I would recommend ordering a bunch of tapas as opposed to a main as observing the tables around us, those seemed to be the winners. Needless to say I'll have to come back to try more of the tapas to give this place a fair review. read more

Stopped in 21 Steps and Kitchen for a drink and appetizer while awaiting a late dinner reservation one night - driven by it's unique location on a second floor and it's high reviews. We ended up seated upstairs at the Attic bar which was a unique space but just a so-so experience. I ordered a cocktail which was quite sweet for my taste and the salmon tartare. The salmon was diced an in a soy marinade which was pretty good but the dish really ended up being more of a big plain salad than salmon. I think my expectations were too high because of all the amazing salmon I had at other places in Whistler. We didn't try the entrees so perhaps that is where the better dishes are. read more

3 1/2 Stars It is a good location for a large group dinner. When I went in early December, they had a 3 course meal deal for $35. The food was good but nothing amazing. The small plates were surprisingly very large such as mussels & pork ribs. The salads were relatively small with not much ingredients. Fans of mussel at our table enjoyed the mussel dish a lot. Although, I was told that they were definitely previously frozen. I had the BC Bowl (smoked salmon, dill, cream pasta) as my main course and it was excellent. The desserts were okay. read more

My boyfriend and I were trying to decide on a place for dinner on NYE and saw 21 Steps/The Attic listed in a restaurant guide book. He was pretty much sold after reading "bacon-wrapped filet" so off we went. We shared the aforementioned filet bites, the stuffed mushrooms, lamb sausage, seared scallops, garlic bread, and creme brulee. Overall the food was pretty good, if a touch on the pricey side (but hey, it's Whistler, and we were prepared for that reality). I've been really torn on my review for this establishment. Normally when we visit 21steps we get a bottle of wine and a bunch of appies we love the appy menu. The appy menu is where it's at. 10/10. This time we decided to switch it up. We decided to get three entrees. We strongly disliked each one. They were so bland and boring. We found hair in our food and they were very kind and apologetic about it. I mean these things happen. I wasn't upset. They decided to cover our deserts and take that dish off the bill. In my opinion that's the very least someone can do. maybe they should step it up a bit??. If my father finds hair in his food he will literally feel sick and it will wreck his evening. So we all react and feel differently about a situation like this. in my opinion for the future you should do more. We didn't even like the deserts. We for sure would return, but only for he appy menu and a big bottle of wine. read more

I ate here with some friends from out of town - usually that's the only time I go to nicer restaurants in Whistler. I got a recommendation from a friend (a local). We had some edamame as an appetizer - it was cold, but very tasty. I had the spicy thai stir fry. It was definitely spicy and very good. I like it when they add some heat to the food. I also had a great blueberry martini! The staff was very helpful in helping us decide what to order. We weren't rushed and it was great to sit in and enjoy a leisurely dinner here. This place is very popular. We tried walking in from the street twice without getting a table before we ended up making a reservation for a few days later. Went with some friends. I had the salmon tartare as a starter. It came with some extremely boring bread and the tartare itself was way too spicy so you couldn't taste the salmon at all. At the end of the main course which was great but a small portion the waiter came and took our plates before everyone had finished eating. They may be in a hurry to clear the table, but that's too much of a hurry in my opinion. Some of the other guys in our group tried their cocktails which were very good. read more

This review is only for the Attic lounge. We stopped by for a few drinks after dinner and were pleasantly surprised to find a relaxing lounge on the third floor with couches and chairs in a very modern atmosphere. The low ceiling, burlap wallpaper, soft lighting and large horseshoe bar were very cozy and inviting. The cocktails we ordered were definitely above average, and priced lower than most of the Whistler lounges/bars. The caesar was fantastic and the martinis, both the standard gin/vodka and the foo-foo mixtures were great. I definitely recommend this place for great drinks without the loud bar scene. read more

I decided to have dinner here before heading back to Vancouver. It was an amazing meal. I even wrote a note to the chef thanking him--something that I rarely do unless I'm extremely happy with the quality. I wanted to try something different. After looking at the menu, I decided to go for small plates instead of the traditional entrees. (I can get those entrees pretty much anywhere.) The small plates were more creative. I went for the fried goat cheese with lavender honey. Oh my goodness it was incredible. I even held off one cheese ball to the very last just so I could enjoy it to the last bite. Next was the orange braised pork ribs with mustard sauce. This plate had a good portion. The ribs fell off the bones and the flavor was very rich. I even sucked on the bones, it was THAT good. Last but not the least was the seared scallops with mango chutney and cilantro sauce. Holy smokes the flavors just bursted in your mouth. I even dipped some bread in the sauce after I devoured the scallops. I checked out the dessert menu and immediately saw one thing-- mud pie. Mud pie is my favorite dessert so I decided to go all out and got their chocolate espresso mud pie. It did not disappoint and I finished the whole thing by myself! The waitress told me she was impressed that I finished all the dishes. Bottom-line, if you are in Whistler Village, you definitely should splurge and come to this place. After a long day of walking around Whistler, we wanted an early dinner and the Spring Special caught our eye. It seemed too good to be true - 3 courses for $36? It was true - a full size appetizer, entree (upcharge for a few items like steak or lamb) and dessert! What a deal! And the portion sizes weren't small, we both had to order our dessert to go. We started with an order of bread and garlic butter...I dreamed about that garlic butter, it was so good! I ordered the stuffed mushrooms for my small plate - they were good, the sausage/cheese combo basically tasted like a pizza. The fried goat cheese was also ordered - very good and came with another basket of bread. Dinner was the BC Bowl - smoked salmon with pasta, and I had the wild salmon filet which came with rice and veggies. Dessert was a brownie and cheesecake (these were the two dessert options deemed most portable since we were too full for dessert at the moment) - the cheesecake was only so-so, but everything else was delicious! Had a great dinner here after a day of skiing! We were seated on the 2nd floor near the windows so had a great view of the Whistler village while we ate. Our waitress had a little bit of a snotty attitude, but she was very attentive and wiped the table and brought new silverware between each course. Everything we ordered was delicious! We got 3 small plates and one entree to share between two people and that was too much food- I wouldn't suggest ordering that much. I really appreciated the way the restaurant (or maybe or waitress?) broke up the small plates into 2 courses. We got the mussels and bread first which were delicious! I definitely recommend ordering the bread if getting mussels to soak up the extra broth. It was a classic mussels preparation, but very flavorful. Next we got the prawns (order came with 5) and the mini ribs. Both were great! The waitress even brought out mini expanding washcloths and water after the ribs to wash the sauce off our hands. For the entree, we got the trout, which actually came with rice and veggies on the side. I would have preferred no rice because the rice soaked up all of the sauce on the trout and it became a little dry. If getting the trout, I'd recommend ordering without rice or extra sauce. For dessert we got the apple crumble which was just ok. It had way too much oat topping for my liking - almost like it was too thick to actually bake or get any flavor. I wouldn't order that again. Great experience! Was mostly impressed by the server. He was attentive but still gave us space to enjoy our date - checked on us just enough but didn't interrupt. Probably the best service we've had so far dining in Whistler. (Wish I knew his name! Floral tie!) The food was great - we started with the chili prawns. I tried a scallop from an appetizer that was requested that was very moist with a well executed sauce. The salmon was super tasteful and tactful. The 21salad was very good, not too big, candied pecans, orange slices, tomatoes, red onions, goat cheese, lettuce, and an excellent basalmic vinegar dressing. Rack of lamb was reasonably priced, came with great homemade mashed potatoes and slightly undercooked green beans.Basalmic based sauce was great on the lamb and potatoes. Companions pork chop was HUGE, although the sauce was too much barbq, pushed it to the side. There were no leftovers. Nice ambience and a wonderful view of the village stroll and Christmas lights. Whistler boys vacation and this place was recommended by a local friend. It did not disappoint. Group of 7 chilled upstairs at the lounge for apps and dinner. Bread and butter ... fried cheese balls ... all the apps were excellent Great wine menu and fairly priced Everyone loved their dinner item. NY Steak was amazing. Chicken was huge and buddy cleaned his plate. The ravioli disappeared quick. The fine dining room is nice, but heading upstairs to the bar/lounge is the spot. My boyfriend and I went to 21 Steps in July 2012 and we had a great meal. We left dinner selection to the last minute (ie: no reservations) and were very thankful that they could take us. The place was busy but not overly loud or anything. Our waiter was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the wines they served. We both had some steak plate and they were both really good (surprisingly!). We didn't expect to be wowed since Whistler is a bit of a tourist place but we were very happy with the food, the portions (so big that we took it back with us to the hotel), and the service. Only weird thing is that you have to pay for bread...odd since it's usually complementary. We would definitely go back. It was also nice to be somewhere a bit away from the bustle of the village. 21 steps is in the village proper but because it's upstairs (up 21 steps in fact), you get to feel a bit removed from all the noise! read more

We dined a party of 3 at 21 Steps on a Sunday evening. We began the evening by watching the Fire and Ice performance in the Skier's Plaza and ducked out early to try to miss the crowd, as we had no reservations. We were sat at the bar to wait for a table, if one would open it. It was about 7:30pm Sunday and the bar was still pretty empty, so we could have taken our meal there - but the hostess quickly verified any cancellations and no-shows and seated us on a bar-height table by the window! Nice people-watching view. (dining 3 or 4 would have resulted in the same table, as is normal for rectangular tables :P). We ordered drinks first, along with a basket of bread - which they do charge for ($2 a basket, which comes with ~8 slices of bread). The drinks came speedily and were tasty. I myself took a Georgia Peach - a mocktail - akin to a peach iced tea. They have a martini section and cocktail section in the drink menu, so they do know how to differentiate the two. The bread was standard French bread, I don't think it was baked in-house, but it was served warm with a delicious garlic butter. When deciding on the meal, we asked the server for some choices - and she suggested her favourites along with the most popular dish. We ordered: - Pork Tenderloin Ravioli (server suggested this with the caveat that this is really a pasta dish with pork tenderloin medallions) - Bison Steak (8 oz): tender, served with mashed potatoes and vegetables - Lamb (the most-commonly ordered of the restaurant) I was tempted by the other dishes which spoke of "onion strings" which I was very much hoping to try - and she noted my yearning for onion strings and asked the chef to include those with my bison steak! And they were delicious together. The dessert menu featured standard dessert items: brownie a la mode, fruit crisp, cheesecake, etc. We ordered the brownie - a favourite of the server, who was not shy to immediately suggest this one when asked. It was a pretty good, fudgy brownie - but I found it a bit small. But perhaps I just like brownies. Overall the night went very well - we were pleased with the service, delighted by the drinks, filled well by the food. I would recommend visiting 21 steps in the future for a nice meal. Make reservations in advance for a wait-free evening, or get there early enough to beat the rush! Prices for the entrees ranged from $25 - $40, depending what you ordered. Was in Whistler for a few days so decided to check this place out since I haven't had a chance to yet. Being an elite squad yelper I like to review new places and venture out a bit. This place is not wheelchair accessible and I saw a mother with a child in a stroller having a very difficult time getting her stroller up to the restaurant because it's a really skinny staircase that takes a turn to get to the top. Once at the top, I noticed the ceilings were 8 ft tall which isn't something you see too often. It was dim and cozy. My waiters name was Andrew and he was extremely attentive and a very good waiter. He was on the ball and very friendly. I specifically asked for his name because he was a good server so I wanted to note that on here. I ordered Caesar salad. It was just your typical Caesar salad with not really the best croutons as they seemed out of a box. Not a bad salad but not great. I ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom dinner. It was fine. No complaints. My friend had the ribs and said they were really good. I think the best part was Andrews service so if the manager is reading this, he needs a raise ;) read more

This place was phenomenal and the service was outstanding! What we did not know before coming to Whistler was that you should make reservations in advance! Fortunately we arrived at 5:30 when then opened and someone didn't show up for a reservation so we got right in. We stared with a bottle of wine and the fried goat cheese. The goat cheese is a MUST try! It was phenomenal and came with delicious bread to spread it on. For dinner we ordered the Icelandic cod and the short ribs. The cod was delicious and I would absolutely recommend it and reorder it. The short ribs were good but a little rich. It was worth trying but I wouldn't reorder them. For dessert we had the warm chocolate chip cookie with salted ice cream and Carmel! It was the perfect ending! Check this place out! read more

I read some good reviews about this restaurant and I had high expectations however it is an okay restaurant for a tourist area. The service was awesome and the food was okay, they offered to us a very good deal for a top sirloin because the plate was huge and tasted very nice. We started ordering a steamed mussels and crispy chicken wings. The mussels were perfect because these were medium size and with a very nice sauce that allowed us to enjoy the strong mussels taste and the light flavour of the sauce. The decor was normal and the attic is the main attraction however it was close when i was there but looks nice. If you go there try the Apple Crumble, my wife ordered it and she said it was awesome (she is a pastry chef). read more
