I am the spokesperson for a group of retired, mostly local physicians who call ourselves "The Dinosaurs." We eat here at lunch every Tuesday. There are currently twelve of us total, and on any Tuesday we have from six to ten. The food is terrific, but the over-riding reason that we only come here is for the great service that we get in the bar from Mrs. Sandra Culler, the bar waitress. We like to settle our individual checks up front so that early leavers are free to go whenever. This was our first visit and I was pleasantly surprised with the inside of this restaurant. The vibe definitely fit the Tavern name, and it was super clean. I ordered a bbq chicken flatbread and my husband got a pasta dish. Both of us enjoyed our dishes! We tried the Tavern brownie which I thought was alright, I might try a different dessert next time. I have been to 2520 years ago but never wrote a review. Came here on a Sunday around 5:15. Not too crowded, which was nice. They are still spacing out tables. Atmosphere is calm and not too loud. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. So to the food...for an appetizer we got the fried calamari. It was delicious. The mixture with lettuce and vinaigrette, with cranberries and nuts was divine, and I am not a big fan of calamari. For our entrees I had the chicken risotto and it was delicious! My husband had the sea bass risotto and he was very happy with it. (It's hard to please him with fish but he says it was cooked perfectly). They gave a good amount of food so we took leftovers home. We did decide to get dessert. We ordered cheesecake with a mixed berry compote on it. It was soooo good. The berry compote was amazing! Will definitely be back here. Went well with my decaf coffee as well. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was the booths had some tears on the backing and we didn't get the bread appetizer but all in all good place to eat! read more

My wife and I had visited the restaurant celebrating our 23rd anniversary. When we were seated it took the waitress 15-20 minutes to acknowledge us. We sat around 7pm and did not receive our order until 8-8:15. We had to stop the waitress several times to inquire about our food and every time it was a story about waiting on the shrimp. 2520 Tavern has quickly become my favorite restaurant in the area. We came on a Sunday night and we're seated immediately. I've been here before and if you come on a Friday or Saturday night without a reservation there's a good chance you're going to wait 45-60 minutes for a table. They run daily and weekly specials which are always unique things to try out, both entrees and drinks. We ordered the tuna tostada and Royal Thai shrimp. The tuna is amazing and is my favorite app to order here. The plum sauce they put on it is out of this world. The shrimp is crispy but still had a good amount of delicious sauce on it. For my entree I ordered the sea bass with little necks. Absolutely to die for, so much so that I, once again, was too excited to take a picture before digging in. Why have I not been here before last night? Great local spot with an amazing Prime Rib... while it last. They do sell out many days that this is served which I believe is Friday and Saturday only. We hosted my granddaughters 13th Birthday party here, because she wanted a steak. Making reservations was easy and the manager and staff were very nice. They had the tables set up and ready when we arrived. The service was good, and the food was good. It took a minute to get it, (it was about 20 of us) but it was good, and my granddaughter loved her steak. We were the last to leave the restaurant, but they didn't rush us or be rude. And to top it off.... I had food left, that I boxed up to take with me, but I forgot it, I called back the next day and they fixed me another entree, and it was so good! Sometimes we all need another chance. It had been a while since I'd felt unsatisfied by my experience at 2520 Tavern, and something led me to give this popular Clemmons restaurant another shot. I found the restaurant busy on a Saturday, yet the bar area provided me an opportunity to avoid the wait. That leads me to my only negative observation: the bar staff didn't really have a good handle on their work. As an example, I saw one bartender take away an unemptied bottle of wine that a pair of nearby customers had bought. In another instance, I witnessed a different set of visitors provide their drink orders on three separate occasions before being granted the items they requested. Aside from the lack of coordination and mindfulness behind the bar, my experience was stellar. Selections from my visit included a discounted price on North Carolina beers, a pleasant cup of oyster stew, and a plate full of seafood that I struggled to finish. My food orders arrived in a timely fashion, and everything I received was delicious. So unlike in the past, I felt I got my money's worth, and I left satisfied. Can 2520 keep meeting that standard though? Can they remedy the remaining service issues -- and perhaps broaden their business hours? I can hope so, and given the change in heart I've had for this place maybe my hopes are not in vain. read more

I have not been profiled like this in a long time. Our server was quite Stern and straightforward with us not even friendly. I asked her if there were any specials and she said NO this is what we have. We placed our order. As we're waiting for our meal to arrive we notice all the other tables around were being served bread prior to their meal. That was not even offered or brought to our table. Another table arrived after us and as soon as they sat down and got their drinks she brought bread to their table. Completely overlooked and bypassed us. Once our food arrived which she did not bring another server did which was more cordial. Our server did not even come to check on us but one time and ask if everything was okay. Not if we needed anything. Once we completed our meal and our glasses were completely empty because she never came to refill them. She came over cleared the table. And asked if we wanted to check. I was planning on ordering a dessert but she wanted us rushed out of there apparently. That being said I will never go back to this restaurant. Disgusted on how she treated us. Wow! We were town from Florida and want to try some local cuisine. Parking lot has plenty of parking. Absolutely stunning once inside. Staff was so friendly and accommodating to our party of two. We had cocktails that arrived promptly. Our food order of sea bass and fillet was received immediately. I was served my risotto but no sea bass. I didn't say anything because I thought the waitress had returned to the kitchen to retrieve....nope. My husband's was waiting on me to get my entree before eating. I finally got the waitress attention and she rolled her eyes and came back with the sea bass in a ramekin. It was disappointing as now both are meals had cooled down. We had to also wave her down to get our check. The place was NOT that busy; lots of staff hanging out by the kitchen. I always tip over 20% when cocktails are served. First visit to this place. I had been to the old seafood restaurant that was here years ago and honestly didn't know that something new was here. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and overall ambience of the restaurant. Great bar and drinks, the service was fast fun and friendly, and the food was excellent. I had a risotto dish and it was one of the best risottos I've ever had. I think they do take reservations but we did not know that and did not make one so we waited about 20 minutes for our table but it was well worth the wait. So I was met at the door by Ellie, that's two stars right there. Charming young lady with a million dollar smile, that immediately engaged me on the book in my hand "The History of the Ancient World" and it wasn't fake, she made enough comments for me to know this. Sadly, the restaurant was too dark for me to read. They have a limited tap but they do have Stella Artois in a bottle with a Stella glass so bonus points for that. 2520 what a great local dining experience! Had reservations so was seated straight away, in a great booth by the bar. Thursday night half price wine night and this place is packed! Great varied menu for food and drinks. Wish the Prosecco had been included in the half price! But I got the Rose brut split anyway, and friends got the Prosecco and Malibu and juice. Ordered the lobster nachos as an app, came out looking great and had great presentation and a big portion, my only beef with this was that every time I thought I was picking up a piece of lobster it was a tomato, hard to find the lobster! Mostly shredded in the bottom with the sauce. Great taste and variety in this app but wish they had chunks of lobster more ! Ordered the chicken teriyaki as my entree and I loved it, not overly sweet sauce, great color with the peppers and chicken and onions. Would get this again, good portion too. You can get two meals out of this one. Friends got the ahi tuna steak, one got with rice pilaf and crab dip, the other with sugar snap peas and red peppers and mango salsa. Both asked for it blackened and came out I thought great but they would have liked it cooked a bit more. But said it was still good. Huge steaks though. Celebrating a belated birthday our waitress bought out some Zeppolis, Italian donuts...these things are awesome, they are hot and come with a sauce that tastes like hot chocolate. If I had to order a dessert I would get these, the fact that they give these free for birthday, well I was impressed, plus there was enough to feed about 5 people. The donuts were crunchy outside and soft and airy inside, so good hot! Being a busy night the service was a tad bit slow, but our server was great and funny too! All in all for being in walking distance to my house this place is a great addition to Clemmons . A nicer place. Great decor and bar are too. I had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant for the first time yesterday. I did observe the sign on the front door stating there's a 3% service charge. After we were seated and placed our orders, I noticed that the health department rating was only a 92.5. If a consumer is going to pay an additional fee for the operational expenses, then the consumer should demand a 100% health department score. The restaurant was on a wait, so we found 2 open seats at the bar. The bar was a little busy so the previous diners's plates hadn't been cleared yet. Fine, it happens, I get it. But when the bartender finally took them away it took another 5-10 minutes to wipe down the bar and take our drink order. Our drinks were simple, nothing outrageous, and yet it took her almost 15 minutes to get them to us, never bringing us the water we asked for.About 25 minutes later she got around to taking our food order, so we decided to order a second drink because we knew it could take her a while to get back to us again! Another 25 minutes later our salads and bread arrived, and as we were waiting for silverware (the bartender never gave us any, so we asked another server to bring us some) our entrees were delivered, literally as soon as we were taking our first bites of salad! I cut into my meal and after the first bite, knew it was not good. It was burnt and dry as a bone, so I pushed it aside hoping the bartender would come ask us how everything was, and that I would ask her to either have it remade or order something different, but that never happened. At this point there were several workers behind the bar helping with clean glasses, etc, so she would've had time to check in with us...which again never happened. One of the people behind the bar was a manager! My husband ate his dinner, as it was cooked correctly. As his empty plate was sitting next to my full , basically untouched plate, she handed the check to my husband OVER the plate! Never once asked us how things were, if there was anything else we needed, etc, just basically waited for a credit card. By this time we were furious! We asked the manger to take my meal off the bill since it was inedible and her only words to us were " hmmm, shoot, we usually get it right"! As I looked around the bar there were more empty glasses for patrons than full ones.There were empty plates from the folks next to us that had departed 10 minutes earlier.This was a completely disappointing experience. We don't cook much at home, so we eat out quite often, but we will be taking 2520 off of our list. I believe the bartender's name was Sidney ( although she never actually told us her name), and the manager's name was Lindsey. It's a shame because we've eaten at 2520 multiple and typically have good experiences, but we usually ask to sit in Laura's section where we know we will get great service! read more
