It's been a few years.. I am glad that this little place is still open in downtown Canton. My friend and I were discussing Chinese or Thai, and she suggested Vietnamese and Pho 29 is down the road. Hey why not give it another go AND Yes it's a pretty dramatic upgrade to a 5 star but Pho 29 hit the mark with a great beef pho and fresh summer rolls last night. The price was $15 for the soup and $6 for the 2 rolls. We both got the same things. I could only get halfway on the soup it was so filling, The beef was tender, top quality with no fat and plentiful. The rice noodles were also plentiful and for 6 bucks the rolls were a terrific value with a nice sized cup of peanut sauce. The owner who cooks was by himself and we were the only customer at the time I arrived for the take-out which was ready. 43 bucks total and heavy as heck. He is very friendly and we joked about how hot summer kitchens are and that we both can't wait till fall. Happy to say Pho 29 is now in my rotation going forward. read more

Just ate inside the dining room here for the first time though got take out here several times during the pandemic. The pho is delicious. I tend to get the pho ga or the vegetable/vegetarian pho. In both cases the broth stock is sooo flavorful. When they pack up your pho for take out they do it right! They separate the bean sprouts and mint and let you assemble the parts at home so everything stays the right texture. It was nice to eat in the restaurant (and avoid all the plastic). They have 4 tables and then 2 more that are used to organize the takeout. One guy manages the front of house and he moves everyone along kindly and efficiently. The kitchen also pumps the food out super quick. I will certainly be back and branch out and try other things. read more

Excellent choice for Vietnamese food in Canton. The pho is hot, fresh and delicious, and seemingly always consistent. The place is very small, but always warm and inviting. The owner is very kind and affable, and one feels particularly good about giving one's patronage to a small family business. Pho-nomenal!! Haha. Pho 29 hit the spot for me on this cold and dreary day. They are located in what appears to be a downtown area in Canton. When you walk inside don't expect anything fancy. It's a basic set up with about 10-15 tables. When I got there around 1, they had quite a few of the tables filled, which is always a good sign. The sever was friendly and got me seated right away. The pho was just what I was hoping for. Flavorful broth with a balanced amount of beef and noodles. Came with all the fixins with exception of jalapeños. Not a huge deal. They only have the one size bowl, so be prepared to have left overs. Prices are good for the quality of food. My large bowl was $13. Great local spot that has great service and food. I'll def be back for more. Be sure to check their hours before heading out. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. read more

I went here today after trying on some bridesmaids dresses at Chrissy's with the other bridesmaids. We kinda went on a whim since it was right across the street and we were hungry. In a way it kinda reminded me of the local pho shops in Asia, how most of the restaurants are also the people's homes. It felt a little homey, small open kitchen to the customer eating area where you can actually see them cooking. A few tables in an open space, probably 5 tables or so. Mainly a one man team, I assume the owner, he was the server, cook, and buster. The place had a few customers in it, but he was pretty efficient for working by himself and got the food orders out fast. I think it helped in a sense that there wasn't many options on the menu as other pho restaurants I've been too. The restaurant mainly serves pho and a couple other authentic dishes. Food review: Honestly many of us thought the broth tasted kinda bland, normally I prefer not having to put hoisin to give the broth extra flavor, I prefer to taste the broth flavoring on its own. Slightly disappointing but I don't find many pho places that provide that kind of broth taste. Summary: Low to typical average pho place, nothing amazing. Price was average. read more

We asked for sliced peppers as traditionally served. They gave us whole Thai peppers. WTF! Evening adding additional hoisin sauce - lots of sauce, lime, and that Thai pepper didn't help our problem! The spring rolls were disappointing also. The rolls barely had lettuce. The shrimp wasn't charred for flavor. They need to update their hours. Tried to order their food for the first time and got their answering machine, although their hours posted indicates they are open. Don't create hours and post them if you close and open whenever you want. It's not good business when you keep the customer guessing. It was just average for the food. The staff is very nice and the place is small but clean. Went here for lunch and had their summer rolls with peanut sauce. Even though it was made to order, the pork was too dry and tough and there weren't any mint or bean sprouts in the summer rolls. The sauce was just ok. I also had the Pho Ga where broth was too clear and lacks seasoning to give it the flavor I am used to enjoying. And it's never a good sign to hear some microwave action going on!! Come on! Off street parking right behind the place. Seems like its run by the owners - husband and wife (chef) and the place is remarkably clean - (clean bathrooms)! Had a couple of bowls of pho, some spring rolls, pork/noodle and Vietnamese crepe. All were hot and tasty. Fresh sprouts, basil and lime. Plenty of water and the owner was very attentive - he was the waiter. I could see the wife (?) cooking in the back and bringing the finished items to the pick-up window. This restaurant is the only Pho place in my area so I go here quite often. I have tried other Pho places that I would say are better in terms of quantity. However, the food here is tasty and the place is small but clean. The staff are also nice and friendly. I have tried the chicken teriaki, the Pho chicken speacial, the Pho flank steak, chicke wings and the summer rolls with shrimp. The only difference between this Pho restaurant and others I have tried is that I always have to order extra noodles. They do not offer a small, medium or large option. Other than that, the soup is really good and tasty. The chicken teriyaki was "pretty good"..... just wasn't enough food to satisfy my appetite and I probably would only order it for my child. I like the wings alot and would order again. And I always get the summer rolls. I would say that this is a good quality restaurant. If you're a #pholife person, you may have had better with a more established and larger restaurant. Either way, I will most likely remain a regular because I live close by. read more

I've been going to this restaurant since it was called Vietgrill - the change happened somewhere around 2008. The fresh rolls, pho, fried wontons, banh xeo (crepe), fresh lemonade, Vietnamese iced coffee are my stand out favourites here. I've lived in Manhattan for almost a decade, and still prefer eating Viet food here vs in the city just due to the quality of the food. The restaurant is run by a family, and the owner, his wife, mother (in law?), and kids are all exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food is always fresh and delicious. Small no frills place with nice service. But the absolute best part was "The Soup!!!" We ordered the fried wontons & chicken wings as apps both were hot and crispy & not greasy at all. I loved that every table had a side dish with everything you could need to make the soy dipping sauce & your soup spicier including Sriracha & chili sauce. Then we had the main course The Soup! My husband & I both had the wonton soup w noodles & my daughters shared the pho chicken noodle. You can almost swim in the size of the soup bowls more than enough for 2 meals but hard to stop eating!! The broth was delicious as well as the noodles & wontons. Stopped in for lunch me and my work partner and tried some pho I got the spicy and he got regular beef both were the worst pho we had ever had. Feels like I'm in California, when I'm here. Fresh, high quality food. I enjoyed the spring rolls and chicken satay. I brought my older parents who don't seem to like anything...but they were very pleased with the food. It's surprising to find Vietnamese Pho restaurant in Canton Center.
