First time visiting this restaurant and definitely not the last. The ambiance was elegant, but mellow and cool. Wouldn't be surprised if they had jazz musicians come in from time to time. If you want upscale dining in Bridgeport, this is the place to be! I went with a group of friends for a birthday and it felt like I was in the heart of NYC! Our server, Garfield, was truly kind and prepared us that the food would be a little wait since they were at full capacity. While the food did take a bit of time, it was very much worth it! A group of my friends and I went to celabrate my birthday. They instantly made us feel welcomed by the staff as they led us by the shiek and modern bar into a private dinning area. The staff was attentive and extremely accommodating to my rather large friend group. They even got into the spirit of the event, taking pictures with us to document the occasion. The food did not disappoint. I ordered the Seared Scallops over Saffron Risotto and Braised Short Rib both were tender, rich and flavorful. The drinks were also top notch. The bartenders were engaging as they put together creative and innovative cocktails. My favorite was their take on an Old Fashioned that was mixed perfectly and kissed with smoke. The is was one of the most phenomenal restaurant experiences I've had in ages!! We ordered two servings of the coconut curry mussels because the flavors were out of this world amazing. Roasted carrots are a MUST, couldn't get enough of the risotto scallops, plus the half chicken and halibut entrees are staples on their menu for a reason. Our first visit, and a a very good one. What a beautiful job the owners have done with the space. Staff was perfect, warm, welcoming, gracious. and what a special treat to have Chef Sawyer come by to say hi. It was very difficult to narrow down the options, so we may have gone a little overboard. The flavors of each and every dish were extraordinary. We had the crab and rice balls (mama's recipe), the spiced broccolini, the luscious short ribs and polenta and the specially prepared carrot dish. All yummy. For mains we had a perfectly cooked halibut with an unexpected complementing sauce, and the taste laden chicken. The three of us shared a perfect slice of chocolate cake caressed with some mint ce cream. Shrimp and grits next time, and there will be next times. You could pick this place up and put it down in New Orleans and it would fit right in as a popular spot, with lively patrons, colorful art, innovative cocktails, excellent small bites, and perfect entrées. I have been twice with two different groups and everyone ate every single bit of every dish that arrived--short ribs and polenta, shrimp and grits, halibut, fish tacos, salads and roasted vegetables.Currently the only dessert options seems to be a piece of chocolate cake with ice cream, and that is fine with us! GPS might have a bit of trouble with the address because it is a small, one-block side street off of Broad so keep an eye out and enjoy! read more

The food is amazing! From the glazed carrots to the salmon and halibut absolutely top notch. The service however was awful. We were there before a concert at the Amphitheater and I think many other diners were too. Perhaps the staff wasn't prepared for the large amount of diners on a Sunday night? We were ignored by our server as we tried to flag him down and thankfully the server at the table next to us tried to cover for him. My cocktail sat at the bar so long that my one large ice cube had melted by 1/3! I think that if you go before a concert you need to let the staff know and order quickly. They were also out of a lot of the menu items but it was a Sunday night so I will let that go. Note: it is also a bit loud, I noticed no sound absorption on the ceiling, perhaps they will correct that? The atmosphere is trendy, the bar has a cool vibe. read more

29 Markle is excellent! Upon a recommendation from a friend, we went there for dinner - and it was delicious! The staff are friendly and accommodating and, when my dinner was delayed and not served at the same time as the others at my table, they apologized and ensured that the dish was complimentary. I could not have asked for a better overall experience. The ambiance is very unique, and the bar is beautiful. The guests were all having a wonderful time and we even got to celebrate their one-year anniversary! Bridgeport needs more restaurants like this. It wasn't just the food that was incredible, it was the entire experience. The vibe hits right when you walk in, and the staff is just impeccably friendly and on point. The Black Rice and Crab was full of flavor that seemed to change with every bite. And the smoked spiced bird is something you'll want to come back for. My date and I don't drink, so we tried the 29 Pine and Ginger, and all I can say it wow. I normally don't go for mocktails, but this drink was as enjoyable as the meal itself. Firstly, going to 29 Markle Ct was a very wise choice for Valentine's Day with my fiancee'. We were first greeted by a gregarious maitre d', who offered she (and all the ladies) a lovely rose. Nice touch. Our corner table gave us a fantastic viewpoint of all the happenings going on around the restaurant. Our server was friendly, and took our order in short time. If I had to critique a couple of small things, they would be that our shared appetizer of glazed carrots (delicious!) came out. Within about 15 seconds, my entree of shrimp and grits (outstanding!) arrived. Then a couple of minutes later, my fiancee's halibut (absolute perfection!) came too. Not the best timing on the arrivals. Nevertheless, we each ordered a glass each of wine, she a rose' and I a pinot noir. The wine arrived a few minutes later, as we started into our entrees. However, mine was a pinot grigio. We sent it back, and rather than come back right away with the correct glass, as we obviously wanted to pair with our meals, I watched the correct wine be poured, and there it sat for what seemed like eternity on the bar. Our server went to go take an order from another table. My hope was that someone would've been asked to bring it over to us. Instead, I had to ask the maitre d' to please alert the waitress. It took another couple of minutes to bring the wine over. In the big picture, none of this is monumental of course, just that the service left a little to be desired, as compared to the very elevated food. read more

I had read an article in a local Connecticut paper about 29 Markle and I had a feeling this place would be amazing. Tonight I decided to treat myself to dinner. Let me tell you, what a fantastic little gem this place is! I love a good cocktail and theirs are perfect. I started out with the Blood Orange Chipotle Margarita. Nice and spicy and beautifully presented. My bartender was warm and friendly and it was fun to watch the delicious drinks being created. I followed with the Sassy Rose which was a sweeter Mezcal concoction which I also enjoyed. I really appreciate that there was a nice selection of mocktails. I finished with Ginger Blood which was carefully crafted and presented with the same fun vibe as the rest. I enjoyed the glazed carrots as an appetizer. For the main course, I really loved the seared king mushroom. My only complaint (and it's not really a complaint) is I wished I had a little piece of bread to sop up the last of that flavorful sauce! The one offered desert, the chocolate cake may not sound like much but they knock it out of the park and it is not to be missed. Went there on Thursday with friends and I have to say the food, the service and ambiance were wonderful. Small place so make reservations. We shared plates for appetizers and they were all delicious. The oysters were nothing like I had before, just excellent as was the short ribs and polenta! My meal was the halibut and it was just the right portion for me; it was tender and the the charred corn salad under the fish was delicious. Our server was Sahmra and she was a delight; she was friendly, bubbly and gave us good recommendations. I be going back with hubby!! read more
