I went to Assados when they first opened and honestly, wasn't too impressed. I since moved closer to the restaurant and drive by it often. My boyfriend always would comment that he wanted to go there. His birthday came up and we decided to go and bring both sets of parents. We had a GREAT meal. It has improved. I previously thought it was pretty flavorless food that I could technically make at home (example: Steak tips, rice pilaf, and a veggie), but now I feel like it stepped up its game. We started with Portuguese style calamari and shrimp and goat cheese. I ordered a seafood and rice dish off of the seafood portion of the menu. I can't find the exact dish online on their menu. Came here for a late lunch after attending an event in the area. Judging by the parking lot which was pretty full at around 3pm, we thought this looked like a wise choice. We were not disappointed with the food. We had stuffies as an app: very good with Portuguese sausage. I had the fish tacos which were excellent with big pieces of fish and plenty of fries. Awesome mango corn salsa. My love had a chicken and pasta entree called Princess chicken and he loved it. Again large portion and well plated. Food is definitely the stand out here. Service was unenthusiastic and not good about refilling water or checking in on us. I would have ordered a second glass of wine if anyone bothered to ask but it was difficult just getting our water refilled. At one point I busted out my water bottle from our hike earlier in the day and drank it instead because no one was around to provide water. We recently went for dinner at Assados Kitchen to try their Portuguese food. My husband is of Portuguese descent and we both love the food. It was a gorgeous summer day so we opted to eat outside on the deck. It was really nice out there and they had lots of beautiful plants. I both picked the kale and chourico soup ($4. for a cup and $7. for a bowl), we both agreed the Portuguese soup I make is better. For dinner my husband picked the Pork and Clams ($28.)and said it was good, but he would pick something different next time. I picked the Sirloin Fillet Tips ($30.) that came on a bed of rice with a half ear of corn. The tips were dry and much more well done than the medium rare I requested. Our server was very attentive. Our bill came to $102. before tip. If we stopped in again I'd probably stick with a sandwich. read more

What a great place ! Def make a reservation if you go on the weekends as it gets very busy. I love this place for special occasions or just for a burger or pasta meal. First time here and I have to say it was pretty good. We had a party of 8 and we sat down fairly quickly. The food and service was exceptional. There were some great options to select from but I ordered the Portuguese steak. Medium. It was made perfectly. Tastes amazing. Comes with 2 types of potatoes and rice. We celebrated our wedding anniversary with family last night and Assados didn't disappoint. Everyone enjoyed their meal and our waitress was very good. The food coming out was a little slow and the temperature of the food could have been a bit hotter. The stuffed quahogs (picture didn't come out) were a great portion size and had a nice kick but they were really wet. Not sure if that their style of stuffie or if they needed longer in the oven . All the food tasted great , especially the octopus, it was really tender. Would come back and just get that for a meal along with a bowl of the Kale soup . Waitress was very nice and always checked on us. The inside of this restaurant was really nice and quiet. You were able to have a conversation with someone. Assados is a great option for an elevated dining experience in the area. I went in on a weekend and if you didn't have a reservations they were on a wait/turning people away. So be sure to make a reservation here even on a weeknight! We started off with the calamari which was great and a perfect appetizer. For my entree I got the pork and clams. I liked it, I didn't love it. Some of the pork was a little tough and I thought it was a little underseasoned. However I will say my husband had my leftovers and loved every bite of it. It was a super generous portion as well. Of course I'm a sucker for a dessert board. I mean once you see it, how can you not want something? We ended up getting a cheesecake slice from the local bakery they partner with. It was tasty, but was a bit too expensive for what you got. Great lunch spot. If you are unsure of what to do for lunch they have a little bit of everything. No lunch deals that I know of. Big portions and tasty food. A sandwich is around 14/15 dollars so that's standard and entree items are pricer. $20-30 dollars. Service is great, everyone is friendly. Bar area is cozy and multiple TVs if you want to watch any specific game, but it's not to loud you can enjoy a conversation with your group. The restaurant's name "Assados" purports an association with Portuguese cuisine. There isn't any. The only connection to Portuguese food this restaurant offers is the English/Portuguese translation of its menu. Guests of Portuguese descent will be disappointed certainly. I am an older Portuguese American. I visited Assado for dinner and ordered Roasted Bacalhau / Bacalhau Assado (commonly known here as "COD" fish). There are hundreds of recipes for this iconic dish favored by most fish-loving Portuguese people worldwide. This restaurant's menu describes their Bacalhau Assado dish as "Boneless salted [COD] fish, seasoned Portuguese style with olive oil & spices. Roasted with onions, potatoes & rice pilaf". I ordered it, and below I describe my experience. One word...AWFUL. It was unrecognizable as the classic Portuguese meal that everyone knows and loves. I struggled to eat some of this, and took it home just to throw away. What was in it? Tasteless bacalhau that had been rinsed and desalted far too long, swimming in some kind of gray liquid, much like a gravy, NOT the required virgin olive oil. Olive oil is a key ingredient in the overall great taste of this dish. Spices could not have been more than pepper because the meal was salt-less. They didn't stop there. The oven backed potatoes - with skin on (unheard of) - were so over cooked that they were difficult to cut and just collapsed. That was nothing inside. Then they added - Rice Pilaf - with bacalhau? The recipes call for only large potatoes! All this "goodness" for ONLY $34.00. You got me once... Here's a traditional Bacalhau no Forno recipe for the typical ingredients required for this dish. Food excellent, Deardra are waitress, the best, we found this place by asking Vian owner of the WhiskeyPearl where to have lunch and she suggested Assados, I'm so glad we took her advice, the prime rib, steak tips and luscious desserts blew us away, top shelf everything, even though we live over 40 miles away we will be back, we have had some bad luck lately with restaurants so this was a welcome surprise. read more

Best calamari I have ever had in my life (I'm a lobsterman's granddaughter) and I'd eat it fresh off the boat-sometimes on the boat. Seriously so tender and flavorful. Charcuterie board was yummy too! The 1920 steak tips were tender, well seasoned and hit the spot. The meal was exceptional but the service was seriously the cherry on top of our experience. I had a lovely dining experience at Assados Bar and Kitchen. The restaurant itself is beautiful -- I sat at the bar on their charming outdoor patio, which was peaceful, not too loud or crowded. The bartender made me a mojito mocktail that was exactly what I needed -- super refreshing and well-balanced, not overly sweet as I asked. I always try Shrimp Mozambique if it's on the menu, so I ordered it as an appetizer. Unfortunately, it was a letdown. It came with barely any sauce (maybe 2 tablespoons), and lacked flavor and the kick of spice I expect from that dish. Thankfully, the Baked Seafood Trio for my entrée more than made up for it. The haddock, shrimp, and scallops were baked in a flavorful wine sauce and topped with breadcrumbs -- hot, moist and delicious. I was also able to swap the rice pilaf for perfectly roasted potatoes. I couldn't resist the dessert tray and went for the Chocolate Mousse Cake. So glad I did -- it was moist, not too sweet, and ended the meal on a perfect note. Overall, highly recommend for the ambiance, attentive service, and overall solid food (just skip the Shrimp Mozambique ). Will definitely be back! read more

Finally got to try Assados and was happy that I did! Every time I go by the parking lot it is full and I can understand why. From the moment I stepped in to the moment I walked out it was very professional. The dining room was clean and spacious enough that you're not bumping elbows with your neighbors. The service was prompt and efficient. I really appreciated that when the waitress had forgotten a bit about my wife's order she came back to clarify instead of winging it and getting it wrong. Drinks were great and very reasonably priced. They had some RI brewed craft beer available which is always a plus. The espresso martini affogato was to die for!! I could seriously go back just for another one! The food was all good, came out hot and fresh. I had the chicken St. Jorge. Flavor was great, chorizo was diced which helped it to not overpower the dish. Overall Assados is winner in my book and I look forward to going back again soon. read more

My first time eating at the much-heralded Assados today for lunch. I had the roasted turkey club, and it was outstanding! The roasted foccacia bread was fresh and pillowy, the turkey was amazing. Only downside was it was super busy and it was difficult to find a parking spot. It was a 20 minute ride home from the restaurant. Food was packed very well and cooked perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised how good everything was considering the travel. We both got Bife Portugues. Our kids got the Parmigiana sandwich and the Portuguese burger. We all liked our dishes and can only imagine how much better they would've been had we got it straight from the kitchen...I'm sure it would've bumped the rating to 5 stars! I really love this Portuguese Influenced Restaurant and Bar. It's tucked away in Chepachet along the road to the main st. The restaurant interior is very cozy, almost a ski lodge vibe to it. And I really appreciate the portion sizes and quality of the food. The Fish and Chips for instance is huge and could be shared by two people. This is a great place to hang out, especially at the back bar. The atmosphere is awesome. Live music on Friday nights. Always packed. I've been here several times and I'm just about a regular at this point. There is no other restaurant around that has a bar outside like this one. I pretty much had every food on the menu. They are all delicious. The prices are great. The facilities are clean. My go to place. As for the bartenders, they're awesome. I'm always greeted with a smile, especially Melanie. Lovely new restaurant in Chepachet. The interior is so beautifully decorated and very spacious restaurant. We got to sit by the cozy fireplace which made it a nice dining experience. We got the mixed grill for 2 and wow it was so good and there was so much food! The steak was cooked perfectly and I loved the chorizo. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 starts was because the drinks were not that great. I had a spicy margarita and it tasted like one of those premade margaritas you get at the liquor store not good. My sister got another tequila cocktail that was also just okay nothing to rave about. I think if they worked on their cocktails it would make it 5 stars for me. read more

Saturday night we took a chance to visit this restaurant without reservation. What a lucky break. We both started the meal with a cup of Portuguese Kale soup which was delicious. I had the sautéed seafood and my husband had the seafood trio. Bot of us were blown away with our meals. We opted for the carrot cake dessert. Our server, Susan, was fabulous with recommendations and just enough chit chat to be welcoming but not annoying. A plus was the owner, Jorge, stopped by and thanked us for visiting his restaurant.
