I have been a client of Diane Rhee for over a decade. My hair color is normally espresso. I have been seeing Diane for cuts and Brazilian straightening. During Covid, upon the advice of a friend, I went to someone bleached my hair and killed it. I filled out a application for front desk position for this salon UNDER TWO DIFFERENT NAMES AND Nationalities and guess who got a interview.. you guessed it , not the minority. But the one that I said wasn't a minority ding ding ding got the interview right after the assessment test that was TAKEN BY THE SAME PERSON AND GAVE THE SAME ANSWERS! Came here to go blonde. First, Rodrigo (who is a renter of one of the chairs) applied 40vol bleach all over my head avoiding the roots. Then after my hair was washed and blow dried he applied 40vol over my entire head including the roots. He melted my hair off. Most of my melted hair came off when the bleach was melted off. When I sat in his chair I picked up a strand of my hair and it stretched like gum in the middle being pulled down by gravity. He continues to comb through my hair trying to make it seem like everything was fine while I tried to not cry watching more and more of my hair come out. He then proceeded to put hot pink in my hair saying that it was just an undertone and not going to actually show over the blonde. Then he washed my hair again and this time I took a photo of what was left in the trashcan... mind you, this was after the two washes, combing, blow-drying, and everything in between took out most of my hair. He still took my money.When I got home my hair never dried because it was so damaged. I came back to him mad and he still tried to act like everything was okay and gave me a cut. He also avoided giving me a refund until I texted him later that my parents were threatening to sue (which I did not let them do) He should've just told me the truth: No, my hair was not salvageable with even the best products. I had no choice but to cut all but one inch off. And even that inch was fried. My scalp was so damaged that it did not produce oils anymore. Even almost a year later I tested it by not washing my hair until it did produce oil, I went two weeks with completely dry hair. How did this happen? Pure neglect. After putting the second round of bleach in my hair he left for about an hour. I had 40vol bleach my hair for about TWO HOURS total. I felt sympathetic towards him and made the decision not to sue and not even to post a negative review. I endured a year of feeling so absolutely horrible and trapped in myself. I know that it's just hair but I felt so ugly. One time when I was walking with my friends a group of guys even looked at me and out loud cringed and made sounds of disgust. He offered me free Olaplex treatments for a year. However, I noticed that he wasn't even using Olaplex, he did only once and used a similar brand maybe a few times but I decided not to be fussy about that. I did appreciate that he was giving me cuts and hair treatments. After feeling guilty about posting a review I finally decided to do it. It's the very least I could have done and I am within full reason to do so. This does not happen as a "mistake", this was multiple steps. This was continuing to ruin my hair for hours even after the initial "mistake" of melting it instead of being upfront with me, letting me go home, and not taking my money. I will most likely be dealing with irreversible damage to my hair growth and scalp. Lastly, he tried to blame me for not having virgin hair. The last time I dyed it was 2 years with HIM. At most the ends of my hair still had color. He is the professional, he should have been able to assess if there was still color in my hair (I also went in for a strand test before the actual day of my hair coloring) and even then it doesn't justify my hair melting the way it did. Not only that, but if my hair melting was my fault why would my scalp have been damaged? read more

Salon: Clean, bright, modern and funky! They have a small but comfortable waiting area with refreshments (coffee, tea, water) available! Prices are on the moderately expensive side but for the quality of work put into those services it is soooo worth it. It wasn't a terrible pixie cut at first but after a couple of trims the stylist I was seeing at the time (at Bubbles) did not have the same "umph" so I decided to grow it all out. After having grown it out, I got sick of it again and immediately wanted to change my look! I really wanted to give the pixie cut another try. Laura LISTENED, ASKED QUESTIONS (about my routine), and even SHOWED ME PICTURES of what she thought would work best with my hair. The FINAL CUT was such a transformation! I was totally FLOORED. Even every single time I needed trims I was happy with how consistent she was with her work. She NEVER disappoints me. COLOR I decided to dye/grow my hair out (for the fall/winter) over the summer. I had the frame of the right side of my hair bleached and dyed dusty pink. This did take a lot of time because going from dark to platinum blonde is a process. But the overall results were awesome! I was in need of finding a new salon and colorist without any leads. I randomly stumbled upon 4&Co Salon and immediately was greeted with a very kind and knowledgeable receptionist. After a few questions about what I was looking for and the characteristics of my hair, she had recommended a couple of stylists that she thought would be a great match. Debbie was someone recommended and I decided to take a leap of faith (having such a wonderful 1st impression and phone experience with the receptionist already!). Yesterday was my appointment and Debbie (and the Salon) exceeded my expectations! Everyone was wonderful and professional! Debbie was absolutely wonderful to work with, professional, knowledgeable, and has a very kind and personable energy. I'm very picky about my highlights and color and I did not say anything or tell her what I was looking for- I just let her do her thing and her skills absolutely exceeded my expectations (wonderful color matching, thin well blended highlights, the color goes all the way to the root and scalp (too often I've left a salon where you can see the line where the highlights begin), and she placed the partial highlights wonderfully so when I pull my hair back with sunglasses or put it up, the color is all over and blends- there aren't tons of dark spots). I also received a blow dry and haircut, and both were just as wonderful! My hair has never looked better and she did a phenomenal job! I feel incredibly grateful to have stumbled upon 4&Co Salon and Debbie- she will always be my go-to! A bit of background- Having moved to the state over the summer, I was absolutely overwhelmed trying to find a wonderful hair stylist and (primarily) a great colorist for my overall hair coloring and for my partial highlights. It had taken about a year for my former colorist and I to get my hair a specific shade of brown without damaging it, so it was important for me to find someone just as wonderful! The prices up in this area, in general, are much more expensive than I was used to paying so trying to find a reasonable quote was tricky, as well. I cold-called a few salons in the area and was met with either astronomical pricing (a partial and color without a blow dry or cut was more expensive than an Apple Watch) or met with a "cold" demeanor. Do you enjoy dittzy conversations from the colorist who has gems like: "I know I'm not supposed to talk on the cell phone when I drive, but I do it all the time, and people honk at me." And "I'm now going to a tanning salon because I'm just not tan enough" (what...not tan enough to be BFFs with Snooki?). Maybe you want some random, 60s-ish manicurist coming up to you, trying to get you to book a mani pedi with her is your thing while you're trapped under the hair heater? Did I mention I just had a pedi (elsewhere) a couple of days ago and it was looking lovely? Laura rocks on hair. Makeup lady apparently doesn't understand words. I scheduled to have my hair and makeup done here for my wedding. The people on the phone were EXTREMELY helpful even though it was hard to squeeze my friend and I in. When I showed up the morning of, the front desk was super friendly and my hair stylist, Laura, rocked! I gave her very minimal direction on what I wanted done with my hair and she turned it into awesomeness. Make-up lady? ugh. For this one, I actually gave specific instructions. I pointed to a photo in a magazine of very rigid concise eyeliner and told her I wanted nude and neutral colors. And what I got was sweepy powdery eyeline encircling my eyes and PURPLE and BLUE eyeshadow. I got home, had about 5 mins before guests showed up and could not for the life of me mellow out the clown makeup. ON MY WEDDING DAY. I didn't let it bother me too much because it was a day to celebrate and have fun but it really irks me that I got the complete opposite of what I asked for. read more

I am writing to sing the praises of Laura Reed, hairstylist and barber extraordinaire! I recently moved to the MD-Dc area and have super short hair...buzzed to within a half-inch of my head. Even with the short hair, I want style. I'd tried several people in the area and everyone just gave me a one-length all around shave even though I tried to explain I wanted something different. Then one evening I came across Salon 4 while walking my dog. When I called the next day to make an appointment the receptionist suggested Laura. Now Laura is sweet and pretty and feminine but don't let the fem looks fool you. She gave me a cutting edge style like I'd never had before by anyone, man or woman. She knows how to barber! As I planned the wedding long distance, I was unable to do a trial with Debbie. But after showing her pictures of what I wanted, she was able to duplicate it perfectly! Two words: Laura Reed. Schedule an appointment with her and you won't be disappointed. She's a skilled colorist that takes pride in creating an individual look for each of her clients. With that said, she takes the time to get to know each of her clients personally. If color's not your thing she'll give you a great cut as well. I'm a curly girl, who wears my hair both straight and curly, she takes care to make sure my cuts are adaptable to both types of styles. She'll greet you with a hug and a smile and she's more than willing to adapt her schedule to accommodate your needs. I should know I come all the way from Alexandria, VA just to see her. There are plenty of salons I could choose to patronize between Alexandria and Rockville...as long as Laura is at Salon 4 I'll keep bringing my business to Maryland. My only criticism of the salon is their shampoo chairs are horribly uncomfortable...hey Salon 4 fix that! read more
