Moving is widely regarded as an insanely stressful ordeal, but 495 Movers was the opposite. Autumn was very professional over the phone and provided me with an estimate that was near exactly what the final price came out to be after weighing my goods. They're not cheap, but I wanted perfection and zero stress and that is what I got. They were extremely transparent throughout the whole process and I never felt like I was being stiffed. There were ZERO surprise charges. Compared to the nightmare of my last moving company, it was like going from a 1990s Nissan to a brand new BMW. I cannot talk about 495 Movers without talking about Milton. I paid for a $500 pack of all my possessions, which was performed quickly and flawlessly by Milton and his crew the day of my move. I was able to enjoy my apartment unpacked up until moving day and not stress about packing all of my possessions. $500 is a bargain for that kind of relief. To my surprise, Milton returned to move my possessions in after a long distance move from Arlington, VA to Massachusetts. I did not lift a finger for the entire move. He was not only incredibly professional, but quick as well. Not to mention, he has some great stories from his times in the entertainment industry! I recently had the pleasure of using 495 Movers for a local move. They were the most professional, most responsive, and most expeditious moving company with whom I have worked--and I have moved several times in the last 20 years. We did a FaceTime call to go over the particulars of the move, which was very safe and efficient given the spike in Covid. We received a bid very comparable to other movers, however the 495 Movers bid included tape, paper, moving boxes, and other necessities. The day of the move, Santos called a half hour before the team's arrival. His team worked diligently and efficiently, showing the utmost care for all our valuables. The team of workers was very pleasant and professional. They packed and boxed a large townhouse within minutes of Santos's initial estimate. When they arrived at the new location, the team worked very quickly to move all our furniture into place--without a scratch to anything. I recently hired 495 Movers to move me from VA to their storage facility and then to our new MD home. This was a very bad choice. They underestimated my move costs by $4,000. To be fair, we did add more items to move after the estimate. Somehow they lost some of our boxes. I went to their warehouse and can not explain how this could happen. They did minor damage to the walls at move in. It took almost one month to get the repair done. The previous owners moving company did their repair to our house in less than 1 week. I worked with Eugene and Tom - both were super responsive and professional throughout the process. I was a little wary of using a local mover for such a long move, but I'm happy that I did. The movers that came on moving day were very thorough and fast! I read a lot of horror stories about things being broken, missing, etc. on the delivery day, but not a thing was missing, and I only had one or two broken dishes. Not bad for such a long haul (and more a reflection of my poor packing than their handling). I highly recommend them! read more

Do Not Use these guys. We did a move from Washington DC to Chicago and the drop off of furniture was just terrible. They rushed everything into the house, didn't put multiple things together, broke a few things, and have dissappeared when we put claims in to get money back. Our move was finalized early April, it is now the end of May and we have still not received any compensation for damages and half-way work. The claims company told us that the pictures are not viable, it's the pictures that the movers took of the broken furniture. Use a more reputable moving company. read more

Beware of this company if you are using their storage facility or moving items out-of-state. I contracted to move a one bedroom condo from N. Bethesda, MD to Hilton Head, SC. Their price was competitive and they came highly recommended. The initial pick-up and storage was uneventful and they were extremely responsive at each step. The actual delivery to Hilton Head was horrible. The truck and crew of two arrived at 8:00 pm, several hours later than scheduled. Many items were dropped and damaged. The workers kept bringing in boxes that did not belong to me, including a piano! I had to constantly peek inside the truck and point out boxes that belonged to me. Several times the guys argued that they were not my boxes, but gave them to me anyway. Each time, we opened then and they were indeed my belongings. At the end of the evening (almost midnight) I was given papers sign counting the boxes. I foolishly signed the papers without counting. As the moving truck left for the evening it ran down three mailboxes in my neighborhood without stopping. I woke up in the night and realized I never saw my very expensive road bike come off the truck. I emailed the company before 6:00 a.m. to let them know to check the truck, since I knew it was heading to FL to unpack the next move. As I unloaded and unpacked I discovered almost half much of my master closet many household items were missing. LONG story short, I had to file an insurance claim with CSI. The lost and damaged items totaled over $13,000. I took the standard move insurance. CSI, the insurance carrier offered me $75.00. Tom at 495 offered me $1,000. I did not accept either offer. I am eight months into trying to get this figured out and I just received the offer from 495 last week. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE this company if you care about the items you are moving. read more

We just moved from Maryland to Tennessee. In an industry rife with scams, tricks, and just plain poor customer experience, 495 Movers stood out like a shining star. Tom showed up as scheduled to give us a quote a month before our move day, offered free packing materials, and gave us a fair (comparable to other quotes I got), flat-rate price for the move. They accommodated our request to take an extra day between pick up and delivery, as we were driving ourselves and taking our time, They emails reminders and called the day before to ensure everything was on track On move day, they showed up on time with a crew of 5 people to pack everything up. All our stuff was professionally and securely packed and loaded onto the truck. A supervisor showed up to ensure everything was going well, and their office called me directly to do the same. 3 days later, we met a subset of the crew- Walter and Lucio - in Collierville, TN They quickly unloaded and moved everything into its new place, assessed everything that needed to be reassembled, and even helped us with a couple of heavy pieces of furniture that we ordered but were not part of the move. Nothing was broken, nothing was lost, no damage to walls or floors etc.. The payment was made according to the quote - no last-minute surprises or unexpected changes or other funny business, which is something I had previously encountered with other movers, who basically hold you hostage, while your stuff is on the truck, Highly recommended, I only wish I could use them when I move again! read more

This was my third time using 495 movers - used to be a great company but I was very disappointed with their team this time and will not be using them again. For seven years, I recommended this company to everyone I spoke to who was moving, and now will encourage everyone not to use this company. This was a very stressful and frustrating day and I deeply regret choosing this company for my move. I was quoted a little under $8k for my move and accepted. The man providing the quote said the price would go down if I packed between then and the move. The quote included packing, and a significant amount of it since I had barely started packing at the time of the quote. I packed and moved about 120 boxes between receiving the quote and 495 movers doing the move. Once the team came onsite for the move, either they realized there was much less work to do than was covered under their work order and went slower to meet the hours quoted in the estimate, or they did not notice this, went slowly, and there is no way they would have finished that day (let alone close to the quoted time), and I would have gotten a much higher quote. The team lead/manager in charge of the other five movers did effectively no managing beyond pointing out which items stayed with the house during the initial walkthrough. I understand this was a good sized move and a long day, but this is one of many moving companies I have worked with in various cities and I have never seen movers even close to this slow. They had zero sense of urgency until my boyfriend and I closely managed them, meanwhile the team lead/manager assembling furniture one handed since he was on the phone. I know someone had to put together some furniture items, but you would expect to see a manager managing at some point in the course of a nine hour day. An admin from 495 movers called me to check in during the move. I called her back while driving between the two houses and told her I was very disappointed in their team. She told me she would speak with the operations manager. I am unsure if she did this or not considering the team's performance didn't change after that call. It only changed once my boyfriend and I were very hands on, both closely directing the movers in the absence of their manager, and moving boxes and furniture ourselves. They used two moving trucks for this move and one of them rear ended another car on the drive between my old home and new home. Thankfully everyone involved was okay, and that was the first thing I asked both the manager and the team when they arrived. I had to fill out a survey on the team's performance in front of the "manager". While completing forms he was looking over my shoulder and laughed at me when I wrote about items they damaged in the move. You can see in the pictures I posted that they damaged items. They did not wrap my outdoor furniture in moving blankets, they just tossed items into their truck. This is also the truck that got into the collision. They also did not wrap two surfboards in moving blankets, and those are clearly delicate items. It is obvious that you should stack lighter items on top of heavier items, rather than vice versa. They did the opposite and cracked a bunch of my storage bin lids since they put heavy items on top of light ones. By the end of the day, it was very clear to me that their team was either untrained or poorly trained and very disorganized. We specifically and repeatedly told the team to put all the boxes in the garage (in the interest of time since they were extremely slow), yet we had to keep stopping one of the movers from doing this. I do not know if this was due to a language barrier or him choosing not to follow instructions, but either way the manager could've easily handled it had he been present. Two of the six movers were friendly and worked hard. If 495 movers hired an actual manager and trained their staff, the day probably would have gone pretty well. read more

On 09/13/2017, I hired 495 Movers (Rockville, Maryland 20850), for a whole house short move from Rockville, Maryland to Silver Spring, Maryland. Unfortunately, I would later discover that some of my thing/s were missing. Specifically, I had an oil painting that was a birthday gift to me from my wife, which was highly valuable, which was really not missing, but stolen. The reason for this posting is to note and not allow thieves to get away with their dirty deeds. It was not just the monetary value of the painting, but the sentimental value it had to me as a birthday gift. As other prior customers have noted, I did not check their truck upon completion of the move, but asked if they had cleared everything out, and they responded "yes." This was not an innocent mistake, as a painting that large could not have been overlooked. I just hope that each time the thief looks at it that it reminds them of who they are, A THIEF! They would cut me off, speak over me and one of them even went as far as hanging up the phone on me. Ahh, reassurance that not all moving companies are ripoff artists. 495 Movers came across my radar by pure accident. I had never dared hire a mover before 2010, both for financial and property damage concerns, but I took a chance due to being a new father with no time on my hands and a newfound lack of need to be a tough guy and move myself. The foreman was kind and helpful, the movers were like Speedy Gonzalez, and the price was quite reasonable -- way under four figures for our 2-bedroom apartment, in-town. They made the move so much less stressful than it would've been otherwise, I couldn't imagine moving without them. And I haven't. I've used them twice since then (don't ask -- I know I move too often) and they've failed to disappoint me. This is an honest to goodness glowing review, which I, being so skeptical and cynical, have never done for anything besides a restaurant. That's saying something. read more

I hired 495 Movers to move my 2 bedrooms apartment from Virginia to Florida. It was self-packed. Their price is competitive and they offer free boxes. Their quote was well spelled out on paper and it was based on volume instead of weight, which I found to be more reasonable than other movers. Here are the pros and cons for each team. Pickup Team: They arrived earlier than scheduled time and did a great job, but with few hiccups at the beginning. They were given wrong quote from the office. The foreman also wanted me to sign the blank contract so they could start moving my items into the truck then give me the final price. I didn't agree because that seems sketchy as they can name any price once my items are on the truck. So I went back and forth with him until he agreed to fill out the contract and inventory list then I signed and paid him. Everything went smoothly after that. They wore mask, wrapped all my furniture well and handled each items carefully. Drop-off Team: They arrived on time and wore mask. However, during the middle of unloading items into my new apartment, one of the movers carelessly broke the kitchen light cover. It was morning move so the team was rushing. Photos were sent to the office. Building management is still assessing the damage as of this writing. I'm also checking if anything else were damaged as some boxes were mishandled. Final thought: 495 Movers has potential to do better. If possible, pick afternoon or evening move as their movers are less rush. Make sure their contract and inventory list are all filled out before you sign and let them move your items into the truck. From experience, I found that telling movers in advance that you'll tip them for doing good job, they usually perform better. The movers arrived right on time and they took care of everything. I've moved what feels like a million times in my life, but my move from DC to NY is the first time I decided to spring for movers. Just couldn't deal with the stress of renting, driving, and unloading a double parked truck on the street. Not to mention actually getting it into the apartment. I'm stressed again just thinking about it! Luckily I came across 495 Movers, got a not-to-exceed quote (save me another sliver of stress there), and booked it. I only had about two weeks' notice and it was no problem for the company. They were scheduled to come between 8 and 9, and were there right at 845. A quick tour through my things so they knew what they were grabbing, and they were on their way wrapping and loading. They finished loading up the truck in a little over an hour (small 1 bedroom apartment's worth of stuff) and we were all on our way! Less than 7 hours from when they got to my old place our furniture was unwrapped, placed, and reassembled in their appropriate rooms. I would definitely hire these guys again. read more

The company did a quote in person, it was pretty close to the cost even though I was surprised we needed 5 guys and 2 trucks, but this was very accurate! Everyone was super friendly and helpful whenever I had a question. We were able to get all the free supplies we wanted and the movers brought additional supplies too. The company charges by the hour, but they will do whatever is needed in that time including packing or hauling away junk. You can save money by doing everything possible before hand. Many "cheaper" companies charge hidden fees and 495 did not. The movers showed up on time and called 45 minutes before as promised. It was a 5 man crew and they all worked tirelessly from 7:45 am until after 10 pm at night. Before we hit any time over the estimate the crew leader communicated this with us and made recommendations for things they could do to help shorten the time. For instance leaving shelves and boxes in the garage for us to move later. He said they would do whatever we wanted but it would take an additional 90-120 minutes so we decided to save money and have them just put the bigger pieces in place. Great at communicating from beginning to end and not a single item was broken or damaged. I highly recommend this company. read more

While the packing order left a little something to be desired, the two moving men were of good-nature about moving some of the out-of-order items to another storage room I had on the same lot. I was super nervous about a cross country move during COVID, and I wouldn't be there in person to receive my items. 495 made everything so easy. From our sales guy FaceTiming with us to do a tour of the house for a price estimate, the pick-up crew wore their masks and was so careful and respectful of our stuff, customer service was responsive when I called to ask about arrival time, and the drop-off crew was careful and really wanted to help us get our new home set up. These guys gave me a darn near perfect moving experience! I want to break my review down into 1) Communication, 2) Timeliness, 3) Effectiveness, and 4) Cost. 1. Communication: we had contacted to other Movers to give us estimates on how much it would cost to move or two bedroom apartment from Falls Church to Fairfax. The first mover set up an appointment with us to come out and give us an estimate and then cancelled one hour before they were supposed to be there letting us know that they couldn't do the move. They did this after waiting 10 days. The second mover was very friendly, but would not return phone calls, or give us a solid estimate period he just seemed too busy. 495 movers got back to us within 3 hours after emailing for an estimate and by the end of the work day we had a complete and accurate price estimate. Josh and Tom we're very friendly, very reassuring, and extremely thorough and accurate and their discussions with me. I was able to contact them a couple more times the week before the move for additional information and clarification on things which they were extremely responsive to. An easy five stars on communication. 2. Timeliness. The response time for an appointment and the estimate was lightning quick. The movers showed up 45 minutes ahead of schedule. They moved furniture, packed, loaded the truck, unloaded the truck in about 8 hours, exactly what we were told the move would take. Finishing the paperwork took about 5 minutes. So another five stars for 495 Movers' timeliness. 3. Effectiveness. I have moved many times in my life, and I have never seen such focus and attention to detail with regards to wrapping the furniture, carefully wrapping each glass and play in the kitchen, not to mention the other things in the apartment, and securely taping and retaping each box making sure nothing would break open. I was talking to my husband and told him they had wrapped the sofa so well you could have dropped it in the Atlantic Ocean and it wouldn't have gotten one drop of water on it. I Not one item was scratched, not one item was dented. The crew was extremely careful and respectful of our property. Another five stars for effectiveness. 4. Cost. We made the mistake of thinking we were more packed than we actually pay ked. At least one third of the time spent with this move was packing that we thought we had already done. Still or move came out to be around $1,500 plus tip, and given the amount of things that we had , the amount of junk they still had to pack, and the quality of service we received, $185 an hour, no charge for any of the supplies , and Them throwing in an additional hour to account for their travel time, we made out like bandits. Overall, the movers were friendly, they were extremely good at their jobs, and I would use 495 movers again any day of the week and twice again on Sunday. The absolute best movers I've used! They are the most pleasant and professional movers I've ever encountered. They wrap all of your furniture so thoroughly, you'd think they were moving their own prized pieces. Anything that you haven't packed at the time they arrive, gets packed. Well. And labeled. Another incredible benefit to using 495 is that you can get all the packing supplies you need from their warehouse for no extra charge. Boxes of all shapes and sizes, tape, newsprint for wrapping delicate items -- all of it. No. Extra. Charge. My first move with 495 was an easy one. I only had a few pieces, but they were challenging to move and were valuable to me. They handled it with ease and professionalism. My second move was much more challenging, and is the reason I would recommend them to anyone. The move took twice as long as estimated (through no fault of 495). While the move stretched on hour after hour beyond the estimated time, the crew never considered cutting corners to save time. They continued on with their meticulous attention to detail. They also all maintained incredibly positive attitudes and excellent customer service throughout the entire move. This was particularly impressive at 1:30am, in the 12th hour of the move, when they elected to execute a heroic maneuver to get my oversized couch into my new home. They handled the insurance and scheduling promptly and correctly. And the guys they sent, Santo and Rodi, were GREAT! They showed up on time at both ends and were incredibly professional, patient, obliging, and quick. When a couple of times we mistakenly let them move some items onto the truck that were to be left behind -- no problem or attitude; they moved them back out right away and kept going. Our estimate of how much we were moving was pretty far off the mark, it turned out. They said that they would have brought a bigger truck. When these two were finished, there was -- no exaggeration -- probably an inch or two between the stuff and the back doors of the truck. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY DID IT. It was like a giant puzzle that they put together with no false moves. And they provided plenty of packing material for us to do some of our own packing. I was told (by a professional organizer) that an IKEA unit we had would probably not survive the trip. It did. They reinstalled it, too. They took apart and put back together a table. They got heavy, awkward pieces out without a hitch. I cannot say enough good things about how they made a potentially horrible experience as easy as possible. Highly, highly recommended. read more
