I found it!!! Pistachio croissant!!! I was super disappointed yesterday when Moja coffee stopped selling the pistachio croissant and to my surprise, it's here! Without any hesitation, I ordered a drip coffee and the pistachio croissant while My husband had the coffee and donut combo for $5 and a ham and cheese croissant. My croissant was airy and fluffy, filled with pistachio and sliced almonds on top of a thin layer of icing. It's a bite into heaven. Their coffee is aromatic, flavourful and bull. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his savoury ham and cheese croissant and his salted caramel donuts. All the donuts are made by Lucky's donuts which has a pretty good reputation here for fresh and quality ingredients. I love that all their cups and plates are a happy colour of turquoise. The decor is rustic yet modern. Its spacious, clean and very inviting. read more

A friend brought me here for must-try donuts and coffee. It is a nice local coffee shop that sells Lucky brand donuts. What hit me first is the exposed brick walls, wood bench seating and laid back west coast vibe. There is plenty of indoor seating along with a fireplace in the back. There is also a large patio seating area as well. The place was pretty busy with people socializing, studying, or just chilling. I purchased a regular coffee and tried the Mango Passion Bismarck donut, Blueberry Lavender Earl Grey donut, and the Apple Bacon Maple fritter. The coffee was pretty good. I liked the fact that there were several options for sweeteners... honey, pure liquid cane sugar, and regular sugar. The donuts were big light and fluffy. There was plenty of filling in the donuts and I I could taste the mango and the hint of earl grey and lavender. The fritter was more dense and had bits of bacon... a good combo of sweet and savoury. Overall a great place. Will be back for the coffee and to try other donuts. read more

I'm not really a doughnut fan so I took the only type I like which was the honey glazed ones with the twisted looking dough. It was really fresh. The dough is melt in your mouth - not dry. They have a great variety to try from so Im positive doughnut fans would like this place. I got the cold brew coffee and it was refreshing. Had a bit of a strange after taste but it wasnt that bad. What I liked about this place was the atmosphere. Something about it made me feel happy and relaxed. Its a great place to meet up for an afternoon snack and catch up. read more

They took what was an old run down laundromat and turned it into a comfortable, spacious brand spanking new cafe. This one is way better (for atmosphere, at least) than the one on 4th. I remember going there and never making my way back. Not here, tho. Love the atmosphere, lucky donuts, fast lines and friendly baristas. Love that Cole, the aptly named hipster barista let me take his picture and promised better latte art next time. Love the open space that I didn't get to enjoy because it was packed. Loved that his fellow coffee "jerk" smiled for the photo, too, even if I didn't catch his name. Do not love the 1% milk; sorry. I love skim or barely-there-pasteurize-their-own a la Portola coffee, OC. Love the teeny-tiny heart art that was placed on top in the most adorable way. I'm not usually inclined to grab a donut. I'm a muffin girl. It's a known fact. But there are a few places that make me change my muffin ways and this little den of waistline sin is one of them. Gimme gimme gimme! Luckys donuts - you are a tiny slice of heaven in circular form. First time I had one, I found myself in one of those awkward moments when you're SO content that you're making inappropriate sounds whilst eating and realize the three tables next to you are all openingly staring. I've toned it down a lot since my first visit but gosh darnit, I love me some Luckys. The ambiance is good and I want to high five whoever sets the lighting in this spot. It's that nice balance between workably bright but not overpowering and they've obviously paid attention to making the room feel hip and welcoming. Service is fast. Coffee is good. I wish I KNEW a little bit more about the coffee. I like that they have a fresh sheet with pick your bean, small batch whatnot but i'm still a coffee newbie and always feel a little intimidated asking the newbie questions in a joint like this. Maybe if I catch them on a slower day, i'll strap on my big girl heels and speak up a little more but until then - i'm pretty darn happy with what I get espresso wise... even if I don't quite understand it. I like this place for a coffee (and hopefully the little piggy in me) a doughnut. However even if just for a coffee, it is effective and delicious. The espresso in my latte had me (a caffeine addict) buzzing. The downside is that it can get busy especially on the weekend, so if you are hoping to snag a table or seat, you'll want to come in early. Tip: they have a coffee and doughnut combo for $5. I haven't confirmed if that would include any other coffee than a drip... I love their lattes, bought a long john this time (which goes for $3.50 without the coffee and doughnut combo) but these are tasty for those who want to indulge a little on the weekend :D Baristas were efficient and fast. I think by the time we walked to the pickup area for the coffee, the drip was ready, and the latte was ready a couple minutes after. This place is so cool! Great coffee and donuts. My friends had fancier espresso drinks they seemed to enjoy. The macchiato came with a shot of tart mineral water. I got a drip coffee and a salted caramel donut to share. I thought the donut was excellent! Surprisingly, it wasn't too sweet. I have been waiting with baited breath for here to open ever since I saw the sign pop up on the corner! I LOVE the PB&J donut. We came here since friends and family who have been in Vancouver raved about the Lucky's donuts served here. I was told to try the PB&J flavor, and I have to say, it didn't disappoint!!!! I love it so much - YUM! The peanut butter glaze and jam was in perfect ratio , and the crushed peanuts on top makes the texture of the donut so tantalizing. We just had lunch before stopping by the cafe, and the donut was the perfect dessert. I don't care much about coffee, since I can't exactly figure out what good coffee means. I mean, as long as it keeps me awake, it is a good brew. I know, I'm terrible. I do find that coffee brew from here has some sort of sour aftertaste though, not sure if I like it or hate it. This is one of the best cafes in town to spend a good part of the day working away on my laptop -- super slick, spacious interior that manages to maintain a real warm comfy-coziness with touches of retro cool in the details. If you are not into minimalist, stark white cafes then this will likely be a worthwhile visit. The most surprising aspect of the visit was Lucky's Donuts. Never been a donut fan, especially when donuts are invariably loaded with some scary thick icing no matter where you go: Tim Hortons, Krispy Kreme and bakery sections of grocery stores, etc. The selection here was 90% donuts, the remainder being croissants, which I usually avoid getting as much as possible. Since I was already there, and given all the rave reviews, might as well try it out. The old fashioned donut was the best I have ever had to date -- thin coat of icing, just enough to give it the perfect amount of sweetness. Exactly how I like it. Texture of the dough was superior to anything else I have had so far, in my donut experience to date. It had this enjoyable buttery aroma to it without any nauseating lardiness that characterizes the Krispy Kreme product. The best thing was that the dough had some great bounce to give it some bite, unlike the dry crumbly stuff from Timmy Ho's. People also rave about Voodoo, but Voodoo's donuts are more of the cake variety, which is different from Lucky's, much sweeter, and many weird flavours and chemicals. I'd say Lucky's gets my vote. Still don't love their coffee though, for the same reasons that stopped me from returning to their Kits location some years ago. Practically all the blends listed on their menu were acidic -- not my preference. Asked the counter staff to recommend something low acid. Unfortunately it was anything but. Had their long Americano on several occasions, requested only 2/3 full but still turned out to be weak every time. I can't find a way to improve. So I give up and am giving them the 5/5 review. This place is fantastic. To me, it has a very San Diego feel to it. Others have described it as a Boston style with the exposed brick and wooden ceilings. The seating is a bit stiff but the wood tables and benches are beautiful! There is more comfy seating near the fireplace too if you come at a non-rush hour. The staff are so friendly it rubs off on you. They all have their own personalities and haven't been assimilated into the Happy-Borg you can find at chains such as Starbucks. They genuinely are happy and individually interesting. One guy is super nerdy, another really relaxed and zen-like and so on. Now for the food and drink. The old fashioned donuts are to die for. Warning. If you are a sugar fanatic, this place won't be perfect to you. They really do make old fashioned donuts. They feel like a meal with the right about of sugar but aren't 99% sugar like Tim Hortons would be. I'm not slagging Tim's though. There's a time and a place.lol The coffee is really good. Hasn't blown my mind but perhaps I haven't found that right blend. I'm not a big Main Street fan. I'd love to see this coffee shop in Kits where I live. But it's worth traveling from anywhere in Vancouver to visit. Totally love this cafe. It is my go-to place for meeting up with clients, friends, everything! It is a busy place, but I've never had trouble finding a seat. They have a huge space with lots of seating, while still feeling cozy. Their coffee and tea is GREAT, but my secret attraction is that they have Lucky's Doughnuts. Oh man. Those doughnuts. Wooden trays are cute, with holes carved into it to accommodate the mug, spoon and teapot. they were happy to refill the teapot with more hot water. Venezuelan coffee came with milk (cream?) and a leaf art! All the seating looked comfortable, including the dark wood picnic table-style tables. We were at the stuffed chairs in the back. The low table matched the dark wood of the other tables. Outdoor patio must be nice in the summer. They were closing early that night for a holiday next day, but they're usually open really late. "I am not a doughnut person," says The Husband. After his bacon apple fritter and my lemon-filled pastry, he proves himself a liar as he instigates our return three days in a row. Paradoxically, Vancouver's freewheeling real estate market and paradoxically lopsided Canadian-American exchange rate led us here: We couldn't quite "afford" enough hotel points for a downtown hotel and "settled" for Mount Pleasant, which we eerily found to be exactly our kind of neighborhood. (If we ever had to go into witness Canadian relocation, we'd be geographically profiled and tracked down.) So when I sought out a wifi cafe to do some writing, I decided why not squeeze in a doughnut despite The Husband's disdain. The next three days--one of which included a 14th anniversary--we had the lemon poppyseed, matcha, sponge Bismarck, almond pistachio croissant (twice) and the PBJ (twice). It was kind of shameful really. Here's the deal: The doughnuts aren't those overstuffed lard biscuits with sickly sweet innards. These are pastries for mature adults. Some we liked better than others--the matcha for instance didn't have the pleasurable bitterness of that ceremonial tea. But the infusion of its flavors (lemon is especially intense) marks Lucky Doughnut as a religious destination that can convert an unbeliever. (And he also really liked the macchiato.) Rave reviews online got our attention, so we dropped in for coffee and some pastries. They're known for their donuts, but we don't care for donuts, and thus can't comment on that here. We did have the latte, and croissants. The coffee was not good. We felt as if the beans may have been overly burnt during roasting, as the coffee was too bitter, so much so that even the copious amount of milk in a latte couldn't compensate for it. I made it to the still relatively new Lucky's Doughnuts window inside its shared Mount Pleasant space at 49th Parallel for some caffeinated beverages and premium doughnuts. I sampled a bunch of different offerings. I thought the coffee cake was quite good and moist with a tasty consistency (although on the small side). The iced coffee was a tad sour, but otherwise had a good, refreshing flavour. The old fashioned chocolate doughnut was like eating a triple chocolate cake. I liked it, but it was quite rich and decadent. The best part about the bacon apple fritter was the bacon. Otherwise, I thought it was pretty standard and decent as far as fritters go. The strawberry and apple iced tea seemed refreshing enough. I really enjoyed the salted caramel glazed old fashioned doughnut. It was a tasty, sticky treat and not too sweet. There's an eclectic selection of baked goods and treats here. It makes for a good cafe experience with a vibrant space to relax. I really enjoy this place for coffee + donut combos. They have fantastic donuts. You can also get a small teapot of tea to pair with the donuts instead. Their brewed coffee is good, and so are their espresso drinks. Their donuts great. There's lots of space here, but it's well known so it's usually fairly busy and there aren't alway free seats. Usually if you stand around for a few minutes, a table will clear out. Their mugs and plates are a lovely tiffany blue as well, it's a good thing to buy as a souvenir or a gift. read more

This place was definitely everything I expected, but that's saying a lot, because I had really high hopes. The decor was perfect, dark wood everywhere, minimal, with nice touches including beautiful typography on everything from the doughnut boxes to the "Open" sign (for the type nerds: lots of Lost Type Co-op. So good). Okay, onto the important stuff: the coffee & doughnuts. My cappuccino was great, not necessarily the best in the city, but still really great, and exactly what I expected (see photo). And the old fashioned glazed doughnut I had on my first visit was just a great standard doughnut. Not mind blowing, but really good. My second time visiting I had the almond croissant and it must have come out of the oven less than ten minutes earlier because it was PERFECT. Flaky, light, and still warm. Pretty much heaven for a croissant-obsessed girl like me, and the fact that it had been baked recently gives them major bonus points because it was like, 3pm, and most coffee shop's croissants are stale by then. Lastly, the service was exceptional. I always got a huge smile from whoever was at the till, even when it was crazy busy. When there was a huge lineup, I (apologetically) asked one of the baristas filled up my son's water bottle from the tap as I was leaving and he replied with a huge grin, saying, "It's no problem at all!" --so awesome. I've also been meaning to try this place out for some time and yes I was able to do that also a few days ago. Love how the place is pretty busy when it was like around 3 in the afternoon. I ordered a small extra sweet vanilla latte and I shared a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough donut with my friend. The donut was good but a bit to doughy for our liking. I was really their to try out their tarimisu one but unfortunately they didn't have any. The coffee was pretty good. I've had their roast before at Musette and it was pretty good. We sat out in the patio because it was a nice day and realize they get a lot of customers that like bringing their family with kids. Then again we did go during a time where kids get off school. This time I tried their salted caramel old fashion donut. I was not crazy about it. I guess I tasted the "old" in old fashion! It tasted like the donut was a day old! I stopped by 49th Parallel on my way out of town after hearing that it was a must visit for coffee lovers. The shop was very packed on Sunday morning as expected. There is ample seating inside if you want to hang out, with several very large communal tables taking up most of the space and some smaller seating tucked into the corners. It was pretty loud and bustling and though seats were opening up fairly frequently I decided to just get some beans and an Americano to go. When I first walked in the door I noticed their selection of Lucky's Doughnuts, which looked absolutely delicious. I was unaware that they served doughnuts and was pleasantly surprised. I knew I couldn't leave without getting a couple. After stepping into line, I found that though it was pretty long, they had it moving really quickly. I wanted to grab three different types of coffee for gifts and found that I had to choose fast. I let three people go by me before I could finish reading the selection of doughnuts and beans. I ended up picking three random varieties of beans along with 2 doughnuts: a salted caramel glazed old fashioned, and a chocolate chip cookie dough. My Americano came up in about 10 minutes. It was delicious and bold just like I like. It's definitely in my top 5 favorite coffees I've had. We ate the doughnuts in the car before eating lunch. They were by far the best I've ever had, even better and Blue Star here in Portland. So pillowy and warm. This was the only place I got to try for the Hot Chocolate festival and if it was any indication on how the other places were then I didn't miss much. The shop itself is really nice and almost rustic feeling with lots of seating spaces but the product I received missed the mark. The donuts that this place serve seem to be the biggest draw with a few different kinds everyday that range from around $3 - $4 which is pretty standard for specialty donut shops around town which I feel is a bit overpriced for 90% of the donuts that 49th has. In the past, I've tried only the donuts and none of them stood out at all but during my visit for the Hot Chocolate festival that changed. I ordered the regular hot chocolate + donut for $6 deal and chose the Tiramisu. The hot chocolate itself was tiny and wasn't great..pretty bland and boring but the donut was amazing, one of the best I've ever had in this city TBH which is the only reason I'd give the experience more than a 1- 2 star review. My gf got the Nanaimo bar hot chocolate with a donut shaped financier for $6.50. The financier was "meh" but the hot chocolate was pretty good and not too sweet. In conclusion, I don't find this place all that appealing but I do understand why others might. I'd only ever return for that Tiramisu donut lol. read more
