We tried this place to avoid the lines at other breakfast restaurants. We probably won't be back. The menu is like a Denny's menu. It seems they are pretty short staffed. The waitress appeared to be almost running the place and was surly and snippy despite our trying to be as nice as possible. Yikes! The pancakes were a disappointment. They were tough. So much had high hopes for the return of 4B's to Missoula. This is a Montana landmark that has tried to hang on to the ever changing market. No one wants to post a bad review but there is nothing new here except for the face lift and workers. Food is ok, nothing special, but if you're looking for something inexpensive and will fill the hole in your luck. We came for breakfast and to say "yep we were here". No I do not foresee myself coming back here. Parking is bad about 20 spots, neighboring property clearly marked "no Parking " . Who was the Einstein that thought this through. Now grant it they are close to the University and will pick up a lot of foot traffic. For the money there are better options. That is my opinion. read more

My dad loved 4Bs as a kid and was super excited to come here. If you get a seat near the back it feels very relaxing to see the stream flow underneath you. The food is a mix of IHOP and your local breakfast diner and the waitresses are super kind. I got a nice stack of pancakes, some sausage and eggs which were all a wonderful temperature and a bit too much for my belly. Fortunately I was able to take the rest to go. I wish we stayed for dessert but we were just too stuffed! Overall it's a nice restaurant with nice people and the classic American breakfast to give you classic American father a nice run of nostalgia. Super busy last night, but glad I went. Went with the delicious Montana Ranch steak, after their classic cream of tomato soup. There was a nicely steamed baked potato, with butter and sour cream on the side. Finished with their classic, highlighted tuxedo chocolate cheese cake. Yum! It was a fun evening, with attentive service. Booth on the right side of restaurant was fine. All in, with tip, about $23. Can recommend them. (Glad they're back in Zootown.) I've enjoyed their restaurants since the 1970's and I usually find it consistently great! EVERY business in America is currently struggling with lack of motivation among their staff and yet... When My wife and I ate at this restaurant in July of 2019 at 2pm. We had excellent service from a young man named Jamie who was very helpful and took good care of all his customers. We had questions about gluten free items and he communicated well with the chef/cook and provided just what we needed. The atmosphere was light and friendly. We will be back on our next trip through Missoula. read more

I love 4B's more than I like to admit. This is the cutest little diner right on the river. It's so beautiful at any time of year. The food is diner food, that doesn't mean it's high end or over the top creative... It means it's better than cooking at home yourself and it is consistently good and fairly priced. Of course, the tomato soup is great, but so is everything else I have tried. The service at this location is always so great. The staff is pretty consistent so they don't have a lot of turn-over which I love. read more

The waitress was the highlight of the meal. She remembered everything in our 6 person order just perfectly and even brought extra sauce. The food on the other hand was not good. Think diner food on a bad day. All of it was blah, except the following: I think my fried eggs were the best thing and I'm not too picky on my eggs. The tomato soup was edible with saltines in it. The onion rings were crunchy and pretty good. I hate to give a bad rating, as I didn't try everything on the menu. but you might consider giving this one a pass. read more

It was bad just after they opened and it's still bad. We are never going back! About a year ago after they opened we went. Nothing has really been updated from Finnigans except maybe lights and a bit of paint. Staff was clueless, food was not great. We decided never going back then. Fast forward to this experience. Wanting something different we decided to try them. The one waitress/hostess told us she'd be with us twice. They weren't really that busy and she was just chatting with some guy when we walked in. Before even being seated we were being asked for our drink. Our waitress walked by us twice saying she'd be with us and it was about 10 minutes before we got order in. We waited a good 20-30 min for our food with no one coming to check on us. Finally we got our food and an apology that the cook was the only one back there so she jumped in to help. My boyfriend got meat loaf with a side of tomato soup. I'm pretty sure tomato soup isn't supposed to have grease floating in it. The meat loaf was dark and he said kind of salty but the mashed potatoes were okay. I got the All American burger. The bottom was soggy and one half of my burger tasted like a salty hot dog and the other half tasted like a bland burger. I know it sounds weird, but that is how it tasted. The fires were about room temp and one side was waaay over salted. We were offered free pie for the long wait be declined. This time we are sticking with our decision. We are never coming back! I came here hoping it would be good classic food. But I got the New York steak breakfast. I asked for medium rare, I got it almost raw and it was bland. Completely bland. I asked if they could take it back, make it a little more medium, and maybe trade it for the sirloin instead. The waitress treated me like I was stupid. But it WASN'T very peaceful... there was a loud, obnoxious, dish washer who would come out from kitchen talking loud having conversations with the waitresses & other patrons, & it didn't make it very relaxing! The coffee is pretty weak and the food isn't perfect but it's okay for what you pay for. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was decent, however my well done hash browns were pale and nowhere near it. The fry on the steak was a little soft and gritty but the flavor was spot on. The biggest issue here is the service. Our server would disappear for fifteen minutes at a time. Coffee refills were impossible to get because Staff were nowhere on the dining room floor and it wasn't even near busy. Our server also forgot our requests and took maybe twenty minutes to get us to go boxes. This restaurant would be worth going to again if they got better servers. read more

This used to be a favorite restaurant years ago, and they went away for a while. We were excited to hear that the chain would be coming into the old Finnegans location. After they opened we waited a bit before going back. First time was not bad at all, good food, the usual excellent tomato soup, good service, not very much to complain about. Tonight's visit - totally opposite opinion! Service left much to be desired, no water offered when seated, drinks were slow in arriving, restaurant was not that full that delay would be understandable. Waitress seemed not very interested in serving. Ladies seated in booth behind me informed staff that their food was cold! Our daughter came with us to dinner, and as she usually does ordered breakfast item for her meal. She had been feeling just fine all day, but within 1/2 hour of eating, she was sick to her stomach! Think it might have been the sausage links, not positive though. Another item worth noting is that once served, the waitress never came back to check on how the food was, did we need refills for our drinks, the typical things that most places overdo! We have now decided that we won't be going back. Our son and his wife went there a couple of weeks ago and were also disappointed with quality of service and food. His wife specifically asked that mushrooms be left off of her order due to allergy, and food was delivered WITH MUSHROOMS! His food was passable, but he mentioned that service was terrible. This place needs a health inspector asap to shut it down. Let's review our experience. We ordered entres and it was obviously precooked beef that had been sitting in stock. (We ordered Philly cheese steaks) and Definately under HACCP standards. We also ordered fries and they came out room temperature at best. I explained to the waitress about the fries. She offered to give me more, I refused noting something was wrong. Some person claiming to be a kitchen manager showed up and offered four dollars of our bill. 4bs advertises great tomato soup. Yeah right. What we got was warmed tomato stock direct from sysco (a major food service provider) with no seasoning at all. Absolute fail guys. Shut it down before someone dies. read more

I used to be a regular customer at 4B's, so I was really excited to see it open. I ordered the BBIT, or Best Breakfast in Town. It was absolutely awful. The hash browns were dry and chewy, eggs were rubbery, and absolutely no cheese to speak of. Everything that used to make that dish absolutely wonderful was done horribly wrong. Considering they just open, you would think that they would have taken the time to do things right. The prices have gone up in the 3 months of operation and now you get a sandwich and soup for $10.00. Fries are extra. The menu is misleading. It states that you can have your choice of cup of soup or a side. What they don;t tell you is Mashed Potatoes listed in the entree is the side already chosen for you. "No soup for you". The prices are now too high for the proportions of servings.Not a value anymore. Perkins and Denny's are closer to my house. You have lost your niche. read more

I always eat lunch here. The restaurant has been open for roughly 10 months now. The service has gotten alot better over time, and the food has always been great for me!!! I can tell this restaurant definitely has an upper management team that really cares about taking care of their customers. None of their meats are precooked, and the tomato soup is ALWAYS made with crushed and diced tomatoes....never tomato stock. The potato bacon soup is ALWAYS made with fresh boiled potatoes, fresh cut veggies, and freshly cooked bacon. The location of the restaraunt is an added bonus to the experience! It sits directly over the Rattlesnake creek that runs into the great Clark Fork River. Love this place!! read more

It's 4Bs people! Classic Montana. If you're going in expecting fusion organic reimagined pub food, you're in the wrong place. Tomato soup is exactly what 4Bs has served since I first had it 40 years ago. Made with butter that sometimes separates a bit in the cooking. Best tomato soup ever. We had to go back on our last trip up this past weekend. Had liver & onions and pot roast. Everything was just as we remembered. Service was great. Place was clean. We remember when this location was Finnigans and 4Bs was up the road. It was nice to have the creekside view & 4Bs in the same place! Don't let the naysayers fool you.
