I had looked up a place to relax around in the La Crescenta/La Canada area, just to find something to kill time before my tutoring sessions and stumbled upon this. A random boba/cafe style shop. At first, I really thought it was going to be similar to something like the places from the valley (Le Arbre, AU 79, Tea Bar), with lots of spaces to chill out and get work done. BOY, how I was wrong. I went in and only saw four tables with a few chairs. Turned away by that, I just decided to get an Almond Snow without boba. However, I think since everyone else and their mothers were getting boba, they just included it without charging me, or probably because they heard my "Wonder Girls - Tell Me" text ring tone go off. So, I guess the reason why the place is called "5.2 Patio" is because if it was on a scale between 1-10, that is how much the place should get as a rating. Before I dwell into the reasons of why I think this place isn't that great, you have to understand that I have been to boba places in the valley, and that bar is set. (And this is the reason why I don't order boba at a lot of places). - The Almond Snow was an interesting drink, but something was REALLY off with it, maybe the sweetener or maybe because of the liquid/syrup they used on their pearls, but I wasn't digging it. Yeah, it did have a nice texture, but flavorwise, something wasn't right. Hence why I don't understand why people were raving about how great their boba is. Why not go to honeyboba, try something there with their boba and report back to me before you start bashing how wrong I am. I never got a stamp card; on top of that, I didn't really look at their food choices, but reading up on other people's reviews, it's probably best to go next door to the Korean BBQ/restaurant and get something there instead. Would I come back? Probably, but something without the boba. I do like the fact the place was playing K-Pop, but the girl didn't know what song was playing and neither did I, since I only listen to idol group's mainstream stuff. The only songs I managed to pick out from my 20 minute stay was Brown Eyed Girls - Hot Shot and Teen Top - Don't Spray Perfume. I was quite surprised to see how much foot traffic was in this place. I was filled with excitement seeing that they got 4 stars and there are no other boba places close by.... then my excitement was completely destroyed by my first sip of the drink. WOW... it's so... freaking... watered down... Did I just pay $4 for this crap? I also got the crispy chicken... 3.50... and it comes in a small brown paper bag... only half full. I I know they are the only one boba place around here but... that gives them not much of an excuse to be bad at what they do. They charge way too much to have this kind of quality. read more

This is a normal boba place. I've gotten a few different drinks here but that's about it. I just got the iced green tea latte with boba and it's delicious! It hasn't been too busy whenever I've come which is good cuz it doesn't take long to get your drink. They have plenty of different choices as far as flavors or types of drinks. The only boba place left in La Crescenta. I have to admit Boba Station on La Crescenta and Montrose was always my favorite and I've been bummed ever since it burned down years ago. I have to admit it's resilient considering the boba craze has pretty much died out, but I'm always slightly deflated by the prices. It has a pretty wide variety of slushy drinks... fruity, sweet, milk tea, etc. Definitely not the most I've seen at places like Lollicup or Quickly's in other cities, and you pay for it being the only boba place standing. Milk tea in Berkeley has spoiled me (99 cents for bubble milk tea or $1.29 with boba). A regular milk tea with boba is over $3 here. I came here a few days ago with old high school friends, and I couldn't bring myself to fork over 3 times the amount I would normally pay for milk tea so I got a small frozen yogurt. You have to pay 65 cents per dry topping or 75 cents per fruit topping. The yogurt was a little too sweet and not tart enough, plus it melted rather quickly and was more icy than creamy. If you're looking for a quiet empty place to chill with some friends, go ahead and get some drinks or snacks and enjoy them on the outdoor patio behind Los Gringos Rapidos, but definitely wouldn't recommend coming here if you're looking for a hangout spot in bad weather. Their Milk Tea (ask for it blended with ice when it's an extra hot day!) & their Mango Snow are my personal favorites. Their crispy chicken is pretty bomb too with some Sriracha. One of my favorite places to go to when I want a cheap meal and Thai iced tea with boba. The girls working here are very nice. The place is located inside a plaza where Vons is at. There is a lot of parking spot since it's in the other side of the plaza. The prices are reasonable. The service is great. We always get their Korean bbq (bulgogi) and crispy chicken (aka popcorn chicken). The serving is a lot actually for what you pay for. A meal won't be complete without getting Thai iced with boba!! This was the first place I ever had Boba a few years ago. I really liked it a lot but I've had Boba that I enjoy more elsewhere. The food is just OK. If I were to get anything it would be the chicken teriyaki plate. The potstickers are a little greasy in my opinion. If you order them spicy, the only difference is they put some sort of a spice sprinkled on top. I used to really love the milk tea with Boba but the last time I got it wasn't good at all. Way too sweet and the taste just wasn't good. I guess they have changed ownerships sometime within the past year. I also get the salted caramel snow which is pretty good. Got a Vietnamese coffee boba- probably would go for a milk tea next time or one of their slushes. This one tasted slightly metallic- could be the coffee a little past the due date, over extraction, the machine or the portafilters that needed more thorough cleaning. This is definitely the best boba place around. I had never been there before but my boyfriend new about it when I suggested boba. They have a huge menu that ranges from slushee to milk tea and all different flavors. I can't even name all the drinks they have because there's everything you can think of even Frappuccino like drinks. I had the Thai tea with boba and my boyfriend had the milk tea we also shared a crispy chicken, everything was delicious. I will definitely be back to try more drinks the taro is on my mind and the squid balls look super good. They are also really inexpensive compared to other boba places. This is a honest opinion about 5.2 Patio.. When I first went here, the cashier straight up stared at me as I was ordering boba. I don't know if she naturally has a RBF, but her natural expression made me feel unwelcomed and I would much rather drink boba at Our Story Cafe, which has the best waiters and best atmosphere for a tea or coffee. Also Our Story has better food and a cute, tumblr interior. The chicken snack I have to admit is very good, but the tapioca balls in the boba are nasty. Tapioca should have a great chewy consistency and should be slight sweet, but this place makes bland, overcooked tapioca balls. I highly suggest that if you want to get boba with great tapioca balls, you should try going to Tpumps or Bobaloca. I also got the green tea boba from 5.2 Patio and I have to say, it felt as though I was drinking 1/2 and 1/2 with artificial flavoring. Also, I got a massive stomach ache after having green tea boba. I HIGHLY SUGGEST EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE GREEN TEA BOBA. This place has terrible service and food, but the drinks are okay if you don't mind them constantly getting your order wrong. The person who usually runs the register is grossly incompetent. This person has both the comprehension and attention span of a lame goldfish. If you are the first one in line, with no orders are ahead of you, you can get a couple of drinks in 3-5 minutes. However, if there is even one person in front it of you, it could take 15-30mins. With 2 people in front of you, it sometimes takes 45mins to an hour! Be careful ordering online, the menu is outdated and they don't seem to know how to process more than one order at a time. The food had made me ill multiple times. In the 91214, this is literally the only place you can probably turn to if you want boba or milk tea in general. It's your average, consistent boba place that can't mess up your order, but at the same time won't wow you. I recommend getting the familiar flavors (milk tea, taro, thai iced tea). The last time I got the red bean and thought I was eating porridge through a straw (it was actually pretty gross). This place is conveniently located where there isn't a ton of options in beautiful, laid back, La Crescenta. I love their little signage, good humor. They have non-dairy creamer for boba options which is great as I'm dairy-free! The taste of the slush decent, but you can definitely taste the powder. Not the worst I've had, but not the best either. Would come back out of convenience and to taste other flavors (they have a lavender boba, cant wait to try)! Their food is ok at best (had the Korean BBQ but you do get a lot of it).
