I visited this place because they were advertising the heck out of it on facebook so I thought I would give it a try. It was a Sunday and I went with my mother. I must say that this place had MANY problems with it. 1. (The main reason I visited ) THE FOOD. I ordered cassava leaf stew and my mother ordered egusi stew with Jollof rice. I must say that the chef didn't even try when making this. It was nothing but oil. I even asked, "where was the cassava leaves that was suppose to be in there" I guess they didn't have time for that. Then they decided to pack the stew with super amounts of salt. 2. The customer service. I would suggest to management to go and train your servers and bar attenders on the correct way to wait on your guests. Our server was rude, did not have knowledge of the food and had a super attitude. They then went to proceed to wait on another party that came in AFTER us. The party also got their food before us. lol We waited for almost an hour before we got our food. This was so irritating. The waitress didn't even check on us. I had to go find her. I think she was much more interested in looking cute for the guys that came in then to do her job. This is sad! 3. The restaurant. They have so much space however the place just looks basic. Not much art or anything to look at. They could do so much more for this place. 4. The price. The only thing I'm going to say is that they are SO expensive. If you are planning on visiting, then get ready to spend your phone bill there. All in all, If I were you, I would avoid that place at all costs, but if you plan on venturing there, AVOID the cassava leaf stew and Egusi and plan on ordering takeout so you don't have to take too much time to deal with their rude staff. My first time experiencing this restaurant and I'm disappointed in the service. I was the only person sitting at the bar and in the whole place. A party of 4 walk in and they get menus and beverages while I'm still sitting at the bar waiting. I ordered a long island and a Sprite. This restaurant was amazing. I am Not usually a "Yelper" so that just goes to show what an impression the food made on me. I got the Suya with plantains for an appetizer, DELICIOUS!!!! it was accompanied by a very very spicy pepper sauce! Also incomparable!! My main dish was the Okra Stew with Plantain FuFu.... Finger licking good! LITERALLY!!! my friend who I was with got the Eru stew with white rice..... nothing short of flavorful and well prepared! I was in every way pleased. We paid about $42 for 2 plates of jollof rice and goat. The rice tasted and was burned and the goat was hard and overcooked. Presentation of the food itself was questionable. Went to see what the new Resturant was like. Being a white person I was asked 5 times if I liked African food before they sat us or I should Say we sat out selfs to one of the 50 empty tables. The service was okay and she asked us two more time if we liked African food. She was waiting for me to decide, so I said I'll take a diet coke and decide in a few. She left and brought me a diet coke that I swear was made from a soda-stream. Terrible drinks! I got The peppered goat, interesting... Most african restaurants are a hit or miss. This joint has been around for a while but I did not realize it was an African restaurant. The food is mainly West African cuisine. I ordered the okra soup a couple of times and was not disappointed. The lounge is also nice, welcoming atmosphere, intimate booths, as well as booths for bigger groups; nice place to chill anytime of day, maybe take my out of town guests sometimes. I was invited to birthday party over a month ago and at that time I never heard or it nor read any reviews. My first impression when I walked into the Restaurant was it had a bland unkept appearance. Old decor and unwelcoming. Huge space, Clean inside the Restaurant. Nothing to write home about. Read the menu and thought the price was pricey. Ordered Egusi and Fufu and my friend ordered Cassava leaves and plantains. The food took forever BUT it was delicious. I was surprised. We both being loved it. Most of the party(about 20 people) loved the authentic. My Egusi today was small portion for $17.99 and I tipped $3.00 to the server at the bar. Very spacious, like VERRYYYYY SPACIIIOOOUUUSSS; so much so that I don't think the restaurant is utilizing the space properly. With a space like that, there should be pool tables, large TVs everywhere, a children's play area, and if nothing else, at least, Jacuzzi, or a gym or something... LOL! I went in for lunch to support a local business. First this is a HUGE space! Anyway, I walked in wasn't really greeted. I asked if the restaurant was dine in only. The lady said no and asked what I wanted. I asked for a menu, didn't recognize anything on the menu and was shocked at the prices. So I was about to walk out. The lady asked me if I liked African food. I responded that I never had it, but was open to trying it as long as it wasn't spicy. She suggested "seafood rice." I believe the menu called it jollof rice, so that's what I ordered. I suggested that the next time they redo their menu that they give a description of the food. She said that there were descriptions underneath. Then I said for example "Fufu." She was shocked I that was unaware of the fufu she pointed at something that looked like mashed potatoes. I'm currently at this place and the other reviews are spot on. Place is overly pricey with poor quality of food. Only wanted appetizers and ordered suya that costs $15. The portion is tiny and the suya isn't tender at all. Meat was very chewy. I politely told the guy that works here the portion is too small based on the price. My first experience: A friend invited me to this restaurant. we got there, sat for almost 30 minutes and no one showed up to ask us if we needed anything. however we called for assistance and a young lady finally showed up at our table. Service was REALLY SLOW. Strange enough we were the only ones there at the time. The food was ok although my egusi soup had a little more salt. Another friend joined us and wanted a plate to go, it took so long when it came she just decided to eat there. i told myself that was just probably a bad day. Yesterday 4/5/2019, I went to the same restaurant. there was a lady eating at the counter and I sat waiting for some other friends, and still no one showed up to ask me if i needed anything for almost 40 mins. These people ruined my baby's christianing! The AC was broken and they refused to up fans. Per Bianca they can't put fans because they need to put commercial fans which cost $5000.00. I booked and paid for the deposit in cash 2 months before the event! We could only stay for about 3 hours and leave! All my guests were very hot and uncomfortable. Bianca refused to refund or even return a bit of my money because she said she's not really responsible for the cooling. Bianca could not even bother to put the drinks in the ice! My brother had make sure the drinks were the ice! I am so disappointed because I thought I should support a black business in my community. But I've learned my lesson! My friend and I decided to stop by for an impromptu dinner. As an African myself, I was really excited to try the food and support an African-owned business. When we arrived, we were told to seat ourselves..the lady was rude and had a really bad attitude, but we decided to stay and see how the rest of the evening would go. I ordered fish with plantains, which came with a pepper sauce; the taste of the food was good, but then I got to the middle of my fish and it was frozen! I told our server (the same lady) about the fish, and she was apologetic, which I appreciated..she took the fish back to the kitchen and had it re-heated (I was expecting some sort of compensation..free or discounted meal, new order "on the house", even a free drink, but I guess not). Even though my friend and I were the only people in the restaurant, our server did not check on us to see how the food or our experience was, unless we called her over; she seemed to be more interested in talking to her friends at the bar. The customer service was a deal breaker for me. I should have read the reviews before deciding to try this restaurant; that way, I wouldn't have been too surprised about the service we received. I do not have plans to visit 5 Sisters Restaurant in the near future. She wouldn't refund me and so I asked for a manager. She went to get the manager only to tell me the manager would be out in 10 minutes. I waited for more than 25mins and the manager never even had the decency to show up. In their minds, they were thinking "Oh, if I keep her waiting she will get tired and leave".. But I didn't and stood my ground. The very rude bar girl kept telling me that other customers paid that price and I told her I wasn't other customers and she needed to stop talking about other customers to me. Another fellow customer sitting there decided to resolve the dispute and gave her a $20 bill to give to me. I asked the man if it was okay and that he really didnt have to. He said it was okay. I shook his hand and thanked him. The bar girl wanted to jump in that conversation and I put her in her stupid place. Honestly, had that customer not intervened, I would have called the cops on them. *** Long Review Alert*** Wow!! I should have come here (YELP) before I decided to invite my friends to my birthday dinner at 5 Sisters Restaurant. Please bare with me. Ok. I called 3hrs in advance to make a reservation 4 a party of 8. Whoever answered the call passed the phone to "mama". I talked to mama (does not deserve capitalization after being so rude!). I asked to reserve a table for 8. She said I should pay for VIP which is "only" $100.00 or sit in the "general area". I told her I will decide when we get there. We got there and were received by mama whose dress had blotches of old oil. Then she points out the VIP area which was just a low-walled section in the middle of the premises. We declined. She points at a location where we had to sit ourselves, but they are "4guest" tables. They had to join 2 tables to accommodate us. She said they normally don't do this but she will for us. Like it was a favor. We were 8 gue$t$!!? She follows us to our place of choice and stands there like we are supposed to move the tables. Then she calls the waiter ( I will name him "Tom" for privacy reasons) to come and join the tables. He did. The worst waiter of the century. We ordered wine by the bottle. He insisted we get 2. After we all agreed to drink the same wine, we agreed to get 2 bottles. Tom brought 2bottles that were corked like champagne bottles but he tried to use a cork screw that didn't work. He decided to go and open it at the bar. We told him "NO". He came back to the table. At this point, mama walks over to the table and starts opening the second bottle. We told her not to. She quickly removed the foil cover from the second bottle then insisted that we had to pay because it is already opened and it can not be resold. Sell by the glass mama. Mark you, The wine is not chilled and we did not have glasses!!!! We asked for wine glasses 3-4 times!!! We requested for 2 buckets of ice to chill our wine. Tom brought one bucket with a spoon. Who wants ice in their wine?? And where are the glasses?? The glasses finally arrived. Tom placed the glasses on the table touching each glass rim!!!! Some of the glasses had never been washed and had price stickers on them. At this point, we didn't really want to google and go elsewhere because it was late. We ordered 4fish dishes ($25.00 each) one Goat, one cassava leaf. We received an Egusi soup which belonged to another table. They received our fish. mama demanded that Tom should go and retrieve the fish and bring it to us, yelling at him in the dining area. We were not going to take it. NO! My friend decided to accept the egusi and we ended up with 3 fish dishes on our table. Now we had to beg for Cutlery (which only took about 7 more minutes to arrive) Yyaay. The last person received her food when I was almost done with mine. My friend who came in late did not order dinner, but only wanted a side dish of plantains. It NEVER came! We finished the hot sauce that comes with the fish and requested for more. Wrong move!!! mama heard 3 more fish dishes. When the fish arrived, we rejected it. She almost shoved it down our throats. We refused but corrected her to bring the hot sauce. She shouted, "one pepe per fish!!". She was ready to put up a fight! I was so embarrassed by her attitude, but she agreed to bring one. My friend asked if they can reduce the oil in the sauce. She said, "No. That is the way it is made. You can pour the oil out." My question is, where? On the floor? Or go to the bathroom? Which by the way had no soap to wash hands and no toilet paper in the stall. A Restaurant?? They only serve bottled water from Costco and they charge $2.00 per bottle. The price of 7 = 140 Kirkland water bottles. We asked Tom to take pictures of all of us. My God Where "weret" thou? He took selfies first!! Who gave him permission? We were done eating and it took 30 minutes! 30!! to get our tab. Yet we were the only ones there. I have pictures to show. It was empty!!!!!! I told my friends, maybe if we stood and made an attempt to leave they would bring the tab. OOOh No!!! Tom had to wait for mama to prepare the tab. It takes that long for mama to tally a tab? Where is the order information that Tom took? At the end of the day we were being charged for food we did not request for or receive. SMH. After a long correction session, we were on our way out. We must have been the best/largest sale (over $200.00) of the day. But we got crappy service from top to bottom. The food was good (but they can improve). Oh. We wondered where the other 4 sisters were. Maybe the place could be better? Or is it 5in1 sister? Overally the place is nice and spacious. Ample parking. Now I usually go here to get food because it is usually good even though it is over priced and you get very little. Wow, some tough reviews here. Did these folks come in with an attitude? My wife and I randomly decided to stop in for a late Saturday lunch. She had spicy goat and plantains and I had white rice with beef in a tomato sauce. The food was delicious and portion size was filling. Since my wife and I are not familiar with African cuisine, we had to ask for help in selecting dishes and it was pleasantly given. I came there for the fish it was around 6 o'clock and they said they was sold out because they ran out of cooking oil but when somebody they knew came in so happened they had oil to cook the fish for that person. So the lady ruly ask me what I want, so i order jollof rice and oxtail that smells so bad soon she set the plate on the counter i call the lady back and ask her how old was the rice. I visited this place because it was close by and another restaurant that served African cuisine. The food is definitely pricey for the amount you get. Also, the space is very big with high ceilings. More of a night club establishment but not really being used as such. However, I did go on a weekend during the day so I'm not sure how they are at night.
