We are from Denver and are used to some of the fancy places to eat. While the exterior of this building is plain and unassuming, the burger was really, REALLY good! I had the Shavano burger with the egg, delish! The actual meat was very flavorful, seasoned well, cooked prefectly. I also had the green chili fries, while I thought the fries were a tad too salty, that green chili was amazing! Just enough green chili to lightly cover the fries, too much is soupy, not enough just sucks, but they gave the perfect amount. I will absolutely go back! I also had a chocolate shake. Listen it was amazing, made with chocolate ice cream, not vanilla with chocolate syrup added, actual chocolate ice cream....so good! One last thing, everyone there, from the front counter to the bar were very friendly, AND we saw some great handwashing happening too! Mmmmm. We rolled into town around 8pm looking for a place to eat. We were really hoping for a great meal and this place did not disappoint!! Delicious burgers and fantastic fries! Portions are huge so definitely share. I got the grains salad which was delicious, but I could only eat about half of it! The environment was family friendly and clean. Menu had lots of choices. Milkshakes are out of this world and is why I give 3 stars. I really wanted to love it. The burger selection is great but that meat is so chewy. I've heard they use ground brisket which would explain the chewiness. The flavors of the toppings were great but I couldn't finish my burger, it was just so hard to eat. Fries are hand cut but so thin that a lot of them just tasted burnt. If they would change up their meat to ground chuck I'd be back in a minute. We have so few choices for casual dining in Salida we need more options but until the burgers change I won't be back. read more

We happened upon 50 Burger on US 50 coming through Salida, and were immediately impressed. The lady at the register was very helpful in our inquiry about camping in the area, because we weren't going to make Colorado Springs this night. The menu, while a bit eclectic, was also American enough for the kids. The natural cut fries are perfectly fried with a touch of sea salt, and the burgers are great! Warning: don't give a tip while ordering. I placed an order and included a tip. Bad mistake, my friend who placed an order just before me got his order and I had to wait till he had finished over half his order before I got mine. My order was their simple 50's Burger and my friend had a more complicated order. Lesson learned, don't give tip to places where they take order and payment before you get your food and service. This is a great little fast food place in Salida. It isn't as "fast" as a fast food chain, but you order at the counter and then they bring your food out to you. The staff were very friendly and kind, the food was tasty, and whenever we're driving through this part of Colorado again, we will make a point to eat here. I don't ever write reviews but this experience absolutely needed one so here it goes. We came down from hiking in the mtns. and were very hungry so we stopped here. Bad decision! We waited in line for 10 min which was fine given the tourist season and I asked the girl at the counter what the French fries were like, her reply was "they are like French fries". Ok. So then a girl from the back held some up for me to see, they looked ok so I ordered one of their bacon bbq burgers and fries. With just 2 of us I paid $30. 2 burgers with fries & 2 med drinks. Wow it was expensive. Then when we received the order the burger was stacked so high with romaine hearts I had to take them off and squish it down to even try to bite it. The bacon was rock hard, the burger was so tough with no flavor it tasted like chalk, the bun was hard, the tomatoes very thick and unripe hard yet I had already used 10 napkins because bbq sauce was everywhere all over my hands and pooled on 1/2 the plate, and this in 1 bite. I attempted a 2nd bite with no luck, it was awful! So I grabbed a fry and it too was so hard I couldn't chew it I spit it out I then found none I could eat. I don't have horrible teeth just sensitive, I would say like the average person. I was absolutely depressed so I walked up to the girl and told her very nicely I could not eat anything I had gotten. She said "ok" took my food and walked away. I went back to the table and sat there a minute expecting someone would come try to compensate for the poor food but no, noone cared. I think I was in shock and so I just walked out. I thought about it and I am just appauled at not only the horrible customer service but a over priced piece of cardboard they called a burger with rock hard cut your mouth fries apparently chef inspired. Well i myself have spent 20yrs of my career as a restaurant general manager AND graduated culinary school and nothing about this place says chef except the pricetag. They obviously make their money on the tourist population that doesn't know any better so hopefully if your reading this you can save your money, it's better spent at 7-11. read more

Their lack of customer service skills are the reason I won't be going back. After mentioning to a waitress about a problem with our order, she said she would go to the kitchen to check to see if it was right or not. We thought to ourselves "ok...it's right here in front of me and it's wrong". She came back by 10 minutes later and my husband got her attention and asked nicely what she found out. She said she'd go check and let someone know. A few minutes later, the manager comes out who I presume could be the owner and asks my husband abruptly and loud "So what's the problem" My husband gets 3 words out, the guy cuts him off and says "Cut to the chase.....what do you want done about it?!?" in such a tone that I looked up at him, just taken back because I was so shocked of the instant attitude and how he didn't care to even hear 1 sentence. At that point, I was so mad at his attitude (and I found out in the car that my husband was just as mad as me) that I told the guy I didn't want anything. I felt like he was really trying to be confrontational as I literally sat there with I'm sure, a stunned look on my face. Now, I know there are alot of people who are looking for reasons to comment about places and there are people who can never be made happy. I am not either of those -- a sincere apology was all I would have wanted especially after the amount of money we had paid for the meal. I honestly have never been treated so rude and that my business means nothing. I guess we were just another number on another day of business. I try so hard to be nice and considerate to everyone around me, so his obnoxious attitude was just too much for me. Had dinner with family. great varied menu (much more than burgers). I had ramen noodle bowl with salmon, which was cooked perfectly! Star flavor of the night was apple pie shake my daughter had (definitely delicious!). My husband said his burger was good (not great, but good). Fish and chips special was very good with great housemate tartar sauce. Big portions and lots of fries (which were crispy and tasty). Lots of vegetarian options (my daughter had falafel "Big" salad with dressing on side -- which was a good choice because it was pretty wet already with quinoa and beans -- she liked it and falafel were very good, but she didn't care for goat cheese, which turned out to be a very strong goat cheese). All in all, very good food and worked perfectly for our family because of wide menu choices. Would definitely try again on return vacation to Salida. read more

While the food was acceptable and the service fine, we do not want to be lectured on saving the environment by their policy of "banning" plastic straws and denying an alternative, such as paper straws. We are sure their kitchen "waste" contains far more plastic trash than any straws may contain and that kitchen "waste" goes to the same landfills. I want to like it, I love a great burger, but it's just been a little unwhealming the few times I have been. Last time ordered the falafal (I know, who goes to a gourmet burger joint and orders falafal...) Seemed like it was poured out of a food service freezer bag into the fryer and tossed on a dry bun. Solid, tasty roadside meal! I'm glad we pulled into this cool little burger joint instead of just grabbing subway. I enjoyed my salmon sandwich and fries! My boyfriend loved the mushroom burger. I also liked that they had salads and some veggie options. It was a little pricier than expected. $40 for two sandwiches with fries and two sodas (including the 20% tip. Yes, I tip 20% even on counter service because I'm not a heathen.) seemed pricey to us and we live in Telluride! I'm going to assume it was because they use fresh ingredients. Not impressed. I've been there twice, and it was just ok. I had the alfalfa and the pine cone. Alfalfa has a weird goat cheese taste (even though it says there's no goat cheese on it). Didn't care for it at all. I think the pine cone sandwich that has falafel should come in a pita, not a hoagie roll. It was really dry and the falafel didn't have a taste. Our fries were warm. I think it's way overpriced for Salida. $13 for a burger and fries, that's fast food...come on! read more
