For me, though, my measure of a great coffee shop is: "how's the espresso?" and by that, I mean, straight espresso, nothing added. We ended up visiting Mammoth both before and after our recent cruise, so two visits in eight days, and both times were great. Moving inside the space, the main part of the cafe is modest in size and, as others have mentioned, fairly minimalist in decor, but that's just fine with me. Each day sees at least two espresso choices, some or all of which will be a single origin. I just ordered one of each espresso and when they reached for a sparkling water glass for each, I explained that they were both for me, so I just needed one. I chatted with the barista briefly about the coffees, too. On the first visit, the choices were their house "Workhorse" blend, Double Trouble, and a bright washed Ethiopian, Teferi Kela. The former was a comfortable blend of Brazil and Colombian sourced beans, with more of the chocolate and caramel flavors but a nice hint of citrus as well. The Taferi Kela was definitely acid forward (in a good way) with bright orange citrus and baking spices dominating. On our second visit, it was an Aponte honey process (which I was familiar with from other roasters), and an excellent Colombian washed anaerobic, Rosados Del Sur. The latter was very fruit forward, with grapefruit and strawberry notes really shining, with a nice acid "tang" as well. The Aponte, while good, was a bit more muted in flavor, and when I mentioned it to the barista, she admitted that they were having trouble with that grinder and she wasn't getting the results she was hoping for that day. Still, it was nice. My experiences here were great, and I'll be sure to visit again anytime I'm in NOLA. If you want the true specialty coffee experience, this is the place.

The visit started off a little strange. There was a customer in front of us who had just paid and needed to sign his receipt. The pen came apart while he was using it, and the cashier jokingly told him, "Oh, you broke the pen." The customer put it back together and signed his receipt. Then it was our turn, and the exact same thing happened. The cashier made basically the same joke with us. It wasn't offensive or anything, and he seemed like he was just joking around, but at that point I was wondering why not just throw the broken pen away and get another one? As far as the food, I ordered the ham and cheese croissant, and that was actually pretty good. It was probably the best part of my order. I also ordered a blended caramel macchiato, and that was definitely not what I was expecting. It tasted more like strong black coffee blended with ice than a caramel macchiato. I could barely taste the caramel or sweetness I was expecting. They also apparently didn't have the proper cups for the blended drink, so mine was served in one of their regular hot coffee cups with that style of lid. It just made the whole drink feel thrown together. My wife ordered the sausage and cheese biscuit. Her description was pretty simple: an overpriced, smaller version of something you could get at McDonald's. The biscuit was dry, the sandwich was small, and there really wasn't anything about it that justified the price. She also ordered a cold brew iced coffee, which she said was okay, but nothing amazing or memorable. The biggest issue for us was the value. Between two breakfast sandwiches and two coffees, our total came to around $32. For the quality and portion sizes we received, that felt extremely overpriced. The shop itself has a nice, modern atmosphere and plenty of seating, and the location was convenient for us since we were staying nearby. But good atmosphere only goes so far when the food and drinks don't match the prices. Overall, the ham and cheese croissant was good and my wife's cold brew was okay, but nothing here made us feel like our $32 was well spent. With all the great places to eat and drink coffee in New Orleans, this one just didn't do it for us. I definitely wouldn't return.

It's a cute little window coffee shop that offers the Waffolino that's a waffle cone with coffee. I didn't try it, but it does look interesting. I went with a caramel macchiato latte. For $7.00 it was smaller than most of the lattes I've gotten at other places. I was also disappointed with the lack of caramel flavor. They have a large menu but are cashless which I'm not keen on but I can understand. The barista was nice but not overly friendly. I don't think I would go back but if you're in the area and need coffee now, check it out.
