They had a legitimate poboy with NOLA baked French bread and properly fried catfish and shrimp. Dressed propper. They get this dish. Very unusual to get legit poboy outside southern Louisiana. I don't know much but I know poboy. Didn't love how crowded it is for lunch, but that is just me. Probably wouldn't go back for this reason, at least when busy. Most wouldn't mind this. Three of us stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night. Short wait, but our table was ready when estimated. We got the deviled egg appetizer - very nicely spiced eggs and pickles. A large serving that was plenty for 3. For dinner, our friend got the Bag O Shrimp appetizer. Oh my! A huge bag of in-tail shrimp in a savory butter sauce. Easily a meal for one. I got the 55 Mahi Mahi. The fish was a bit dry in spots, but good overall. The grits were fantastic! My wife got the Grilled Shrimp Salad. It was a nice mix of greens and veggies, with tasty shrimp. I was one of the first people in the restaurant for the day and alone so I sat at the bar. They were very attentive and friendly. They have a really good Louisiana style menu. I ordered a egg and sausage sandwich and I was blown away. It was FIRE. The coffee was hot and strong like I like. The potato's were crispy and delicious. I even had a beignet thing which was awesome, all for like $11 (not the coffee tho). They have a bottomless mimosas thing too and if I had more time I would have partook. Really good spot! Eaten here a couple of times over the years but it's been awhile and only for brunch - which is really good. Came for drinks and dinner with a friend. We sat at the bar and started with margaritas and the queso and bbq dip which was amazing. Margaritas were good, a little sweet for me but my friend loved hers. Well in the Knoxville Tennessee area we wanted to experience some down home cooking so we went to 55 South because the menu looked amazing. We ordered a variety of items including the Seafood Gumbo, Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, to the Deviled Eggs, Shrimp & Grits, and Tacos. The food did take a long time to come out and our Gumbo appetizers came out after our entrees. I was really disappointed in the Gumbo because the rue was too thick and tasted burnt, equally disappointing was the deviled eggs which were extremely bland and had no flavor. 55 South provided a wonderful gathering place for 9 adults to have dinner on a trip to Nashville. This Downtown Franklin location is warm, welcoming, and vibrant. You could feel the energy in this establishment. The staff was professional and able to handle a large group. Three of the people in our group come here multiple times a year. We followed their lead on ordering. 55 South does a tremoundous amount of Oyster Sales for not being near water. We had Char-Grilled and Raw. We ever ordered a second round of the Char-Grilled Oysters. Both are very good and made for happy diners. Other favorites in our group included Fried Green Tomatoes, The Dirty Bird, PoorBoy, Double Burger, and Jambalaya. I look forward to coming back on my next trip to Nashville. The employees here all very hard working and polite. This is the place for some GOOD southern foods. read more

Well here we are again on another culinary adventure in our new home of Nashville...this episode brings us to Downtown Franklin @ 55 South - a place we've heard good things about but had not yet had the pleasure of trying! So let's get to it! 1st impression: Walking in the door we were greeted right away and asked if we had a reservation - which we didn't, however they offered us a seat at the bar which was full service and wide open - so we obliged! Ambiance: Rustic farmhouse meets industrial vibe in a quaint and lowly lit area. Since we didn't see the dining room, only the bar - it was still nice and our bartender was spot on quick with drinks and recommendations for what we should eat. Food: We started with the crab fries - an appealing notion and what a tasty treat it was. Garlicky, pesto type sauce that wasn't too much hit was tangy and added to the ample crab on top of the fries. My wife had the chicken salad which she enjoyed. I ate the brisket Reuben which was very good, tender and with the right amount of everything! Not a huge fan of potato chips but they were baked and not overly greasy. My friend had the jambalaya which he said was tasty - spicy but not overly spiced. Service: Spot on with everything; timing, refills, checking on us etc...can't ask for anything more here. Price: Since my friend lives led up the tab it was hard to discern how we from the prices on the menu things seems a bit higher than normal but wasn't out of reality and it's downtown Franklin so you can expect to pay a bit more on a touristy area. Overall: Great place (and they have tons of whisky choices if that's what floats your boat) anytime for lunch or dinner or just a stop in for some appetizers at the bar! Keep Munching! read more

I loved this place, from the moment I saw the Christopher Walken sign at the front. The staff is very friendly and the decor is adorable. This was my first visit to the south, so I was hunting all over fried green tomatoes to try and I found them here. They are SO good. They came topped with shrimp remoulade. I followed that with red beans and rice with fried chicken, also delightful. Finally, I had banana pudding with bourbon butterscotch, and my kids had beignets with raspberry sauce. We decided to spend an afternoon exploring downtown Franklin and needed to start with lunch. Based on several recommendations, we chose 55 South. The atmosphere is comfortable and fun - quite busy but we were seated right away. There were so many terrific food options, and I would have loved to order a bloody mary from the bloody mary bar but they were about to close for a break between lunch and dinner so most of the toppings were gone. Thanks to a recommendation from our server, I ordered the garlic parmesan crab fries. So good, but VERY garlicky. My son's dish was the standout - he ordered the hot chicken and it was fantastic! We were in the Nashville area for the day and before heading home, we wanted a nice dinner at a local place we had never been to before. 55 South was on a list of places that Guy Fieri has visited on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. We showed up on a Wednesday evening around 5:45. They have a sign that says they accept walk-ins only, no reservations. The wait was going to be about an hour or so, and they use a text service that lets you check to see how many tables are ahead of you, which is convenient because there are several shops immediately around 55 South to visit, although many were closing around this time. The wait ended up being around 45 minutes. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. Our server greeted us promptly and was excellent. She made sure our drinks were filled, she came back immediately after my daughter asked for some Comeback sauce for her fries, and when we ordered desert, she brought extra little plates for us to use. She was on top of things all evening. We started with fried pickles as an appetizer, and they were very good. Lightly fried and perfectly seasoned, with that Comeback sauce I mentioned earlier. Good way to start, but they had other appetizers that looked just as good; we just have a thing for fried pickles. We all ordered entrees that came out very fast considering how busy the place was. I had the fried shrimp plate with cheese grits and sauteed spinach. The shrimp were excellent. Like the pickles, lightly breaded and seasoned just right. The cheese grits were fine, and the spinach was good if you like a lot of garlic, which I happen to like. I added a Honey Hush cocktail to my dinner that came to the table pretty quickly and was very good. They have a nice selection of signature cocktails and plenty of beer to choose from. My wife got the chicken and sausage jambalaya. The sausage is made in house and the dish was very good, although it was a bit heavy on the tomato sauce flavor for her Cajun sensibilities. When we go back at some point she says she will try the red beans and rice. Can't wait to try it. Our daughter go the NOLA cheese steak sandwich...with brisket!!! The bread was New Orleans po-boy quality bread, it was covered in cheese and had an excellent au jus for dipping. She substituted the chips for fries (+ $2) and they too were very good. For dessert we went with the beignets. They came out just as quickly as the food did, and they are served with a raspberry-vanilla dipping sauce. The beignets themselves were in a paper bag so that they can be liberally coated in powdered sugar. Now, we've been to Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, on the river, plenty of times. THESE beignets are just as good if not better than that. Seriously, they are absolutely legit. The dipping sauce was out of this world good. After experiencing the service, the atmosphere, and the food and drinks, we can see why there was an hour wait at 6:00 pm on a Wednesday evening. If you're in the areas, you will absolutely enjoy eating here. read more

We decided to stop in for brunch on a Sunday. There was surprisingly no wait for a table of four altho they seemed to have tables closed off for social distancing. Started off with 2 for 1 mimosas. I'm not sure what champagne and oj they use. It didn't taste like cheap champagne and didn't come with a headache afterwards! The oj wasn't too sour or too sweet either, just how I like it. Though our experience is unlikely to occur to others, I can only comment on our visit. Went for lunch feb 7th with my wife and friend. We are all doctors. My wife got scombroid poisoning from the fish tacos. Scombroid poisoning is from improperly handled fish. We called afterwards to warn them (as it is highly unlikely that only the fish used in her dish would be affected) but we couldn't get a hold of anyone. We could only leave a message, which we did.
