I'm usually skeptical when visiting auto repair shops because of bad experiences in the past. I stumbled upon 5th Ave. Auto Service after getting gas down the street and saw their signage displayed boldly on 5th Ave. I had a few issues with my car and decided to check them out. They say first impressions are lasting impressions and that holds true here. The ambiance is really laid back and exceptionally clean. The waiting area resembles something of a dentist office, ultra clean and comfortable chairs. They even have unique art work displayed throughout. The gentleman that works there (Mitch) was the one who helped me with the issues on my vehicle. Mitch was very personable and knowledgeable about the issues on my vehicle and only recommended repairs that were needed. You can tell he wasn't the nickeling and diming type of guy and was only interested in keeping you happy. His wife was also very sweet and just as personable as Mitch. I came to find out that this repair shop is family owned and operated which is a plus in my book! The work they did was awesome as they fixed the issues that was preventing me from passing smog. The prices they quoted was very reasonable and was explained to me very thoroughly. Unlike other repair shops, there was no room for ambiguity here. I feel as though they did go the "extra mile" (no pun intended) and this is the standard here. Was looking on Yelp because I found out last minute that I apparently needed a smog check before they mail me my registration sticker. I requested a quote online and Mitch was SO prompt in answering. I got my engine replaced here about 6 months ago and and about 2 weeks after the replacement I noticed it had lost about 2 quarts of oil in that 2 week span and was also misfiring on 3 of the 4 cylinders which caused the check engine light to flash as I was driving. When I took it back they informed me that the Technician had not put the rear main seal in properly (which caused the huge oil leak) and also that the engine had no compression which was causing the misfires. Which I found kind of strange because the service advisor told me that the company they get their used engines from go through their engines and make sure they're in good condition. At this point I was okay with it, I understand things happen but I was without my car for another 6 or 7 days. Although They did provide me with a loaner car which was cool of them. Just this week I noticed smoke coming out of my engine and they informed me that my oil pan gasket went bad causing oil to leak on to my exhaust. Now every time I drive my car there is very noticeable smoke and the smell of smoke coming from the front of my car. Although the repair was done only 6 months ago, I did pass my mileage warranty. So they couldn't do anything for me. I understand the whole warranty situation but for a gasket to go bad after 6 months? And this being the 2nd oil gasket to go bad after the rear main seal. (they replaced every gasket on the engine) At this point it isn't even a question of which brand seals were used on the engine but more a question of the craftsmanship and the technicians doing such a huge repair on my car. I did tell them I'd do the repair myself after they informed me they couldn't do it under warranty. Which sucks because the repair didn't even last half a year and now i have to fix their mistake. When I was inspecting it I also found a bolt on my transmission had worked itself about halfway out which means they didn't tighten it up. This whole situation has caused me a lot of worry because of all the smoke that comes from the engine bay. This whole situation is unfortunate. read more
