I have been bringing my car here for several years for regular maintenance. The staff is outstanding and honest. I appreciate the information they provide and the client education. I brought my car in for service today and it needed a lot of work (which I anticipated). I arranged to leave it overnight and called a local rental company to secure a car. The rental company has some difficultly arranging their shuttle to pick me up. Husband brought in his car on Wednesday. Got his car back on Friday. After paying $1700 on repairs, his car had the same problem on Saturday. We were one the freeway and luckily the car made it far enough to pull to safety and had to get the car towed back home. It almost seemed as if they fixed it enough to start and have him bring it back to pay more money to get it fixed. They did offer my husband to have him bring his car back but would have to pay. $1700 is a lot of money for us to fork out with this economy plus wages were lost cause he couldn't go to work. Excellent customer service! I requested to perform rear brake replacements for my 2014 Prius. A full inspection was performed first to see if other repairs were needed. The front facing personnel, Mitch and Scott, provided friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service. Even when the techs discovered a leak under my car, they indicated that it wasn't bad enough to require repair. I'm guessing if this was another repair shop, they would've told me to get it repaired immediately to maximize profits. They seemed honest and not out there to take advantage of customers. read more

I went there as a response to a Facebook ad that guaranteed "out the door" smog checks for $30 or less in 30 minutes or less. I sent my daughter there last week, fully expecting that they would steamroll over a naive 20 year old. When she arrived the guy apologetically said the techs were at lunch and it could possibly be 35 minutes. Regardless, he took on the job himself and had her out the door at exactly $30 in LESS than 15 minutes! Now I am sitting in their waiting room getting my car smogged and they just told me mine was done. Literally less than 10 minutes!!! Nice to have an auto shop that does what they say. I visited 5th Avenue Auto, approaching almost a year now, to diagnose a steering wheel issue and get an alignment. Despite mentioning that the problem was intermittent and did not occur on the way to the shop that morning, the front desk proceeded with the diagnostic, which cost $160 and found nothing. Numerous attempts to resolve the dilemma and receive a discount for future services were met with resistance with the manager only offering to do another diagnostic for free when the issue becomes more frequent although this is unlikely as the alignment seems to have greatly reduced the issue. To be fair, I did receive a partial $15 refund on another visit but only because the worker couldn't contact the management and wanted to at least help me out a little. THIS worker understands customer service! The overall experience was frustrating and I've already withheld giving them a review for many months now so I guess now is the time to move on and say I would not recommend this shop. Other side issues: -Their maintenance schedule looks to differ from the car manufacturer's recommendations, suggesting additional services. -Their alignments always seem to leave my steering wheel off center and a little to the left. read more

I'm new to the area and went looking for a good car mechanic. First stop was all the Yelp reviews and 5th Ave Auto Service has some stellar reviews, so I gave them a call. I always start with an oil change to see what kind of service I can expect. I spoke with Mitch on the phone and told him I wanted an oil change only and I would bring my own oil. He was sorry, but he couldn't do that, no customer supplied parts he said, when asked to explain he had three basic reasons; no warranty on such parts, if the customer brings the wrong part it could slow down the garage's work flow and he makes a profit on the parts he sells. That last reason struck me as being very honest and I went ahead and booked an oil change. Upon arrival to my appointment the guy at the front desk was very helpful and told me he'd text me when my car was ready. I went around the corner to Dell's barber shop (see my review on them for more about Dell's) and got a haircut. In the time it took to get a cut, I had got a text from 5th Ave Auto letting me know I could pick up my car. When I returned, Mitch was at the front desk and went thru a rather thorough report on my car. He said as it was the first time I brought the car to them, they normally do this sort of report. All free. It's a very high tech garage, with lifts that take over 40 pics of your car while in the air, with a variety of other reports covering brakes, tires, engine and more. My car came out mostly in the green (that's good) except for the air filter which I bought from Mitch and installed myself. 5th Ave Auto Service is a squeaky clean garage with helpful employees and an honest owner. I do wish Mitch would have let me use my oil (I use fully synthetic and his garage only supples a synthetic blend), but otherwise a really great experience. read more

It started by reading all his Great Reviews. Gave me the confidence to take my vehicle there. I was very impressed by their clean, well organized and spacious shop. Mitch and I talked about the history of my towed in vehicle. The next day he gave me a full assessment and a follow up call. Turns out I needed an entire new engine. Mitch was direct in advising me that $8500 was really more that I should invest in a vehicle with 160,000+ miles on it... I agreed. Mitch has the integrity and standards not to offer me any cheaper, partial fixes that may no be a good long term outcome. He is all about doing what is best for the customers and what makes sense financially. He suggested some alternatives related to getting a used motor installed from other possible sources.... but also advised me of possible negatives with that option. I may go that route until I'm ready to jump into a new car. I will definitely come back to this shop when I need a trustworthy mechanic in the future. read more
