I honestly don't remember how I heard about 6 Klicks. Wherever it was, it sent me straight to Google looking for a peek at the menu. I really liked what I saw and made a note to myself to try it out when my buddy Jim comes to town, since I will be taking him out to eat most meals during the two weeks he is down here. Then, last Tuesday, I was at my monthly retiree luncheon, and 6 Klicks came up twice. It confirmed for me that I needed to get there. Well, my youngest son turned 27 the other day. We always let our family pick their birthday dinner venue. Last year, he picked Bobby J's, but it was closed the day we needed to go. He chose it again for today, but a quick check for hours on the Internet told us it was CLOSED PERMANENTLY! I remembered 6 Klicks and sent him a link to the menu. Just like his old fat daddy, he said, "Heck, yeah! That menu sounds great." So we loaded up the car, drove out to Helotes, and found the restaurant in the location of what had been a Vietnamese restaurant not too long ago. When I had studied the menu, I knew I was going to have a problem picking my meal. My favorite food is meatloaf. The problem with that is that my wife makes the BEST meatloaf I've ever eaten. Committing to eating it in a restaurant can be a dangerous venture. It can never be as good as hers. But, it can be pretty disgusting. I decided to take the risk. When it came to the table, it was a HUGE slab of meatloaf. Had they cut it normally, it would have been three thick slices. It was served with mashed potatoes and cream gravy (like a chicken fried steak) and a large pile of beautifully cooked fresh green beans. The meatloaf was very good. The seasoning used in it gave it a unique enough flavor of its own, that eliminated the need to compare it to my wife's. Do I like hers better? Oh, yes! Would I order this version at 6 Klicks again? Yes, I would, except that I want to move on to the other awesome choices on the menu. In case anyone was there and noticed, I will admit to putting ketchup on the meatloaf. That is how I always eat it at home. I used just a little dab. It really didn't need it. The green beans were very nicely seasoned and cooked with bacon. The potatoes were buttery. The gravy was your standard Texas-style cream gravy-perfectly thick and seasoned with salt and pepper as it should be. My lovely daughter-in-law ordered the BLT. You can see in the photo how good that looked. It was a triple-decker, and she said it was really good. My wife had the Hangover Burger. I wanted to ask for a taste, but we just don't usually do that type of thing. Visit the menu to see what it had on it. I'll just mention the hash browns and egg. My oldest son had the Triple Cheese, Bacon, Chipotle Ranch Burger. The birthday boy had the South of the Border Burger. All three of them said the burgers were really good. They sure looked good! Our servers name was Dylan (or Dillon- I didn't see it spelled out.). He was very attentive and got all of our orders 100% correct. That's all I ask in a server. The fact that he was friendly and welcoming was a bonus. He seems very young, but he handles his job like a seasoned pro. Remember that retiree lunch referenced above? I love comforting home cooked meals. 6 Klicks Cafe is comfort food as close to home cooked as I can get without cooking it myself. Thick, perfectly battered and crispy onion rings, chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and the best gravy. Let's not stop there! They have a menu with pasta, sea food, burgers, wraps sandwiches and subs and of course salads. Then there is the weekend breakfasts I love pancakes and 6 Klicks makes perfect pancakes. 6 Klicks is not large, but plenty of seating. It smells like home cooking when you walk in. It's nice to find a solid breakfast option in the NW parts. (By solid, I mean diner-esque: sit down/table service, with more-than-meat options, and open early enough to qualify as breakfast.) This cafe offers the above, and with options broad which to please a mostly veggie (mushroom and spinach omelet or cream pepper gravy on biscuits, as well as a sausage option for the carnivores). Plenty of animal-based options, too, plus hash browns or pancakes or French toast. We like the local vibe more than the mass market of IHOP or Denny's. This was nice! read more

We had our son's graduation party at the restaurant. When I say they went above and beyond, I mean it. They opted to close the restaurant for us. The food was delicious as always. Burgers make up the majority of the menu, but they do have salads, steaks and chicken fried steak. The one dessert that grabbed my attention, and I will return to try was the Homemade Tequila Key Lime Pie. Anyway everyone at the table ordered a burger. Tried this place during a time when it was not busy. Had a BLT which was huge and straightforward. The bacon was good! Also had a hamburger with a very thick, slightly sweet bun. I couldn't eat it assembled so I had to take it apart. I was disappointed to find one of those premade, frozen hamburger patties which are stuck together with meat glue or something. I felt I was back at a school cafeteria! The french fries were frozen (not handcut) and too salty. In addition, I never got a refill of tea, waitress never brought our sweetener, and the condiment bottles were sticky and disgusting. Disappointing visit to say the least. read more

Fellow Yelpers inspired me to try this place for the onion rings, and they did not disappoint (the Yelpers or the rings!) So crunchy! Lightly breaded with a peppery kick, these rings are my holy grail! I've been looking for these all over the country! Hubby had the wings, and the cook provided more than usual because he said they were under-sized. They were wonderful. So we threw all caution to the wind and ordered the Key Lime pie that a Yelper recommended. Don't do it!! Heavy, with an undissolved sugar kind of texture, it was cloyingly sweet and disappointing. We took a few bites and couldn't go any further. We would love to come back and try the highly recommended burgers someday. This place has great purpose and meating to honor vets. My family and I walked in and was told to sit anywhere then immediately told to sit at a dirty table. No problem, as we were told she would be right back to wipe down the table and chairs. 7 mins later she still hadn't made it back to clean our table. I went to ask if she had a rag to wipe the table down as a friendly reminder that she forgot to wipe ours down. Instead she handed me a wet rag.... I cleaned her table for her, returned her rag and we left. For a company that clearly prides themselves on their veteran affiliation, I expected more. I can't speak about the food as we obviously never ate but I will say the staff needs some training at the very least. I have eaten here once before at least a year ago. The food is good, with an I'd like to try everything menu selection. It was difficult to make a decision but I went with the blackened chicken breast sandwich with the ranch dressing on the side. A very necessary decision for me as it can be a little messy otherwise. Very, very delicious. My only suggestion and it's just me, the bun was on the sweet side. I had the fried okra for my side dish, very tasty. The cafe is in a strip center so there's really not much to say about the ambiance. The food servers were very friendly and talkative. I'll be back!!! read more

We went a couple of weeks ago because I finally decided it was time. I'm kind of upset that I waited so long. We've actually gone twice now because we really enjoyed the food. The second time we went the waitress mentioned that they had homemade banana pudding. I'm diabetic so normally I avoid things like that, but I love banana pudding. We decided after we ate that we wanted to take an order of the banana pudding to go. That way I could eat it over a few days and share it with my husband. I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place is clean, and I liked the military/veteran themed decorations. The staff was friendly. I had the egg breakfast. Everything was great. Perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. The bacon was crispy, hashbrowns flavorful with a great texture. Even the toast was done well. I don't eat breakfast sausage often, but it came with the plate. Came here for breakfast this morning. Mainly to see what was on the breakfast menu (as it was, at least for me, difficult to find the breakfast menu anywhere online or on the FB page). Got there just after opening (8am), and I was the only guest. Was only guest until around 8:45am (maybe I'm just an early person). I wish more folk would support local businesses! Got the 6 Klicks Special, which came with Two eggs (I got over medium), 2 pieces of bacon (which were cooked just how I liked it), 2 sausage links (perfectly crispy on the outside but soft inside), a slice of ham (thick but tender, easy to cut with fork), and hash browns, with two pancakes (fluffy and very tasty). A great traditional breakfast. Perfectly filling! Also got coffee (great tasting, even without creamer which they were out of, which I'm guessing had to do with the holidays or something) and OJ. Friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere, at least when I was there! 90s country (my favorite) playing in the background. Heard some songs I hadn't heard in may years, it was nice! As long as they continue to be open on Sundays for breakfast, this is probably gonna be one my regular Sunday breakfast spot. read more

My family and friends went yesterday for dinner for the first time, we absolutely loved it! My husband and I had the chicken fried chicken, my son had the catfish plate, my friend had the meatloaf plate and her husband had the mushroom burger.
