I have tried almost every single food item on the menu (I know, I have some lofty goals...) but anyway - they are all delicious! Almond bear claws, homemade bagels, danish, meles, HUUUUGE muffins, scones, and the cookies - oh those are all delicious! There are like 10 flavors! Also, the drinks are really good and reasonably priced! I generally get a cappucino every morning, but the drip coffee and the mochas are delicious too. They also make fresh fruit juice to order - which I haven't tried yet, but it looks delicious. Also, they have a really long tea list and that is delicious, too. Way too crowded, and not intimate at all with tables practically stacked one right over the other. If you don't have a laptop, then you will feel really awkward. The only nice thing is when it's sunny outside and you can sit on the patio with the sunflower garden they have. The coffee is mediocre. For better drinks, go down 2 blocks to Te Cafe or Crazy Mocha. read more

Every time I've been here I never was really impressed. The quality of the coffee is actually above average, the cookies, scones and other baked goods are pretty good. The furniture is not really comfortable, there are hardly any outlets for any electrical devices- and while a nice place to stop in, I won't go out of my way to come here again. I was surprised with the bad customer service I experienced here. The barista who made eye contact with me when I came in the door didn't say Hi, or even when I was waiting in line to be served. If there's anything I've learned in the customer service business you always greet your guests, and when you're occupied with something, you apologized once you greet them. This was not the case with the blonde haired female I encountered. I was craving a scone and with their many assortments I thought I came to the right place. Wrong. The blueberry scone I purchased had no flavor at all. It was extremely bland, as if a major ingredient was missing... Sugar? Anyways after going here once and having both a flavor-less scone (threw it away after two bites) and poor customer service, I've learned there is plenty of other coffee shops within the area to go to besides this one. read more

I'm an out of towner, and I noticed she was more welcoming of regular customers. All you need to know is the hot chocolate is off the chain. It's damn good. Plenty of seats for you to sit, chat, study etc. Good service. Good lighting. My only critiques: 1.) it's cash only and 2.) slightly loud for my tastes. Otherwise, a very solid coffee shop to check out. read more

Love this place - the internet is free and the coffee is strong! Staff are friendly and make you feel welcome (even if you bring a laptop and stay for a few hours). The coffee shop is small, but they've managed to squeeze in just enough small tables for customers to find somewhere to sit. There is also a nice side patio that is open whenever the weather permits. The only downside is that they only accept cash, but in case you forget, there are atms down the street (or just go to Giant Eagle). Metered parking is available nearby, but you might find some free spots farther out in the neighborhoods.Or just hop on the 61C bus - it will drop you off right in front of the shop! read more

I used to be a huge fan of 61C; however, lately my husband and I have been receiving some inconsistent service. On a few occasions, they have forgotten to add chocolate to my mocha. Additionally, sometimes the espresso tastes burnt and the milk is overheated. Don't get me wrong, more often than not, the baristas do a great job; however, until we start receiving good beverages on a more consistent basis, I cannot bring myself to give this place more than 3 stars. read more

I'm coming to Pittsburgh from Portland, and Portland is the elitist's paradise for coffee and espresso. I'm glad to see that Pittsburgh has so many independent coffee shops. I would not put them in the same class as those in Portland, but in the context of a city Pittsbugh's size and located in the mid-Atlantic, I'm impressed. Came to 61C based on a couple recommendations. Very cool place. Seating is a bit tight, but then, coffee shops struggle sometimes with relatively low turnover and low priced items, so I don't mind the sardine-packing atmosphere. The positives: decent number of wall outlets; nice selection of teas, sustainable to-go containers; good selection of sweets; friendly barista; great location on the Murray Ave strip in Squirrel Hill; fresh veggie/fruit juice available; very cool music. The negatives: Lighting could be much better, especially in the back away from the windows; no design to speak of, very plain tables/chairs, and a ceiling badly in need of painting and repairs. I love the 61C! Great music is always playing, making it a nice place to study or chat with a friend. Pared down decor with some nice etchings hung on the walls -- no cheesy paintings all over the place like the Beehive. Very very chill. The staff is excellent and remember your face. The drinks are great (I especially love their hot cider during the winter months), and the outdoor seating during the spring and fall is an excellent mingling spot. However -- cash only ...and the staff is so kind they let some typical Pittsburgh weirdos (one who always comes in and shouts on his telephone like clockwork every day, one twitchy old guy who does his rosary beads, etc) come in once in a while during the early afternoon. read more

Atmosphere- reasonable. Mostly seems like a good study shop for college kids. Not as many lap top outlets as there needs to be it seems. They make good chai and Lattes which is what I mostly get there. The coffee is fine. Most of the food available is sweets. Watch out for the no credit card deal. read more

I love this place. Great coffee, friendly people, and relaxing atmosphere. Lots of seating and a very nice patio. Most of the baked goods are made in-house, and they are extraordinary. The cranberry oatmeal muffin is my secret hangover cure, but all of the muffins are the best-in-class. The scones and chocolate croissants are excellent as well. If you want something healthier, the smoothies are always great. They are made from straight-up fruit: you pick one that will be juiced in front of your very eyes, one blended in frozen, and a thickener of banana, yogurt, or granola. There is no ice added, no syrup, no extra sweetener. Fantastic. An all-around great place to stop in for a quick coffee before work, or to hang out with a pastry and a good book. read more

61C is fine in comparison to most Pittsburgh coffee shops, but nothing that blows it out of the water. The coffee is fine and the food selection is decent. My biggest problem is with the shop itself. The tables are tiny and outdated, the chairs uncomfortable, and it's not a good place to get work done. Even though the coffee and food here is much better than Starbucks, I'd rather go there to study because it's comfortable, clean, and more modern. 61c is dated, and it shows- I remember it was always packed to the brim when I was younger, but have barely seen more than a few tables filled recently. One of the better Pittsburgh coffeeshops, with a local, timeless feel. Sure, it's cash only, but the coffee is reasonably priced - most drinks are under $3. Plenty of table space and outlets, free wifi, and late hours (open til 11pm on weekdays, 12am on weekends), which makes it a great place to work - probably the best place to work in Squirrel Hill besides the public library.
