I went to Ken & Sue's on my first night in Durango on a weekend trip with my significant other and friends. Ambience: Charming and inviting. The restaurant is right in the middle of the quaint cute downtown if this mountain city. We sat on the outdoor patio which was huge with tons of space and tables. Drinks: I got a watermelon martini to start which was good but overflowing and spilling about a bit when served. Appetizers: the BEST part of the meal. My fiancé and I split the Cajun scallops appetizer which had over 6 scallops and was only $10.95. I was amazed that I could get perfectly cooked and seasoned scallops (I had never had Cajun-flavored scallops before and the spice was actually perfect!) for such a good price as I rarely see scallops as an appetizer. Entree: I went with the filet mignon which was priced really well at $23.95. It was cooked to a nice medium temperature but wasn't the butteriest restaurant filet mignon I have ever had. I thought the sides of smashed potato lasagna (basically like an au gratin) with sautéed tomatoes, gorganzola, and spinach actually outdid the meat. The service: I would say was friendly but could improve on a couple of things such as serving martinis without spilling around tons of liquid. We also ordered a bottle of wine when our entrees arrived and we didn't receive the wine until we were nearly done with our entrees. We stopped in Durango for a couple of days and this is a food fest Little Town. We found Ken and Sue's and decided to have dinner there it was beyond spectacular. Our appetizer was pork belly with a Brussels Sprout Kimchi dressed slaw. "Exceptional "!!!! And large!!! Plenty for two or three. PORTIONS ARE LARGE HERE!!! My dinner was sweet potato gnocchi in a poblano sauce with a very large portion of thinly sliced breast of chicken also with its own special sauce the gnocchi were mind-boggling delicious. My husband had the special of the night which was,a semolina crusted chicken breast over the homemade pasta of the night with diced onions peas and fennel incredible!!! The pasta was thin and perfectly prepared. The prices were very reasonable and the portions are very large. The staff were wonderful constantly checking to see if we needed anything else and stopping to chat very friendly and we loved the outside patio perfect for the summer with a beautiful breeze. Traveling from out of state today and wanted a filling salad to take back to our hotel. Hotel recommended Ken and Sue for their delicious salads. What a complete disappointment when we arrived back at the hotel to find our salad was filled with old, brown lettuce. Several bites of the grilled chicken was rubbery. They failed to include food items we requested. Perhaps eating in would we would have been served a better meal and at $14 it should have tasted divine. read more

This place is a MUST in Durango. I sat at the bar, and was pleasantly engaged with the bartenders for most of the evening. I orderd the sea scallops and debated another dish, but so glad I did not. The sea scallop appetizer can be described as sea scallop nachos, and is enough food for two people! What a fabulous meal at a fabulous place !! We flew into Salt Lake City on a red eye the night before from Hawaii.. Drove down to Mesa Verde National park & after reading the reviews ...decided to make a reservation here which is now 636 Main ... Tired and ready for a good meal were we and we were not disappointed!!! Our Martinis were amazing .. My husband had the the blue cheese wedge salad while I chose the Ceasar salad which was a meal on its own ... Unfortunately they were out of the prime rib ...I would suggest requesting they save one for you if you are booking a reservation...so husband ordered the NY strip while I chose the meatloaf .... His steak was grilled to perfection and my meatloaf was delicious.. No room for dessert ..so wanted to taste the tiramisu but our dinner was so delightful that we ate everything on our plates !!! Antonio was our server ..& a fine job he did in taking care of us !! In the end ...I highly recommend this place .. Cannot say one bad word about our experience :))) read more

The owner of the crepe stand on the corner on Main Street (a French chef) recommended 636 Main to my wife and I while we we're enjoying one of his crepes. He emphatically told us the food there was much better than the other top rated restaurants we were looking at on Yelp. We are so glad he overheard us and told us about 636. My wife and I ate there tonight. No question the best dinning experience by a mile we have had in Durango or Telluride. Our steaks were tender and cooked exactly the way we wanted. Their potato "lasagna" or scalloped potatoes were amazing! The wedge salad terrific. My wife really enjoyed the crème brûlée for desert. To top it all off our server Brooke was just outstanding! A great dinning experience all due to the crepe chef over hearing us talk about our less than great experiences our first couple of days visiting. Surprising good. Have been coming here for years and while we always enjoyed Ken and Sue's, it was never as good as this night. First, we sat inside in the cool, always a plus. Our group of 4 shared the tasty spring rolls. Entrees were carnivore focused - NY strip, short ribs, ribeye and pork belly. Girls loved theirs and the boys steaks were excellent. We visited this restaurant after getting a recommendation from a local. My husband started with the pork belly appetizer and I had the wedge salad. Both were huge and delicious. I had the Rib-eye and he had the beef tips. We shared a half order of crab legs. Every bite was fantastic. We had no room for dessert but I imagine we would not have been disappointed. We both had bottomless hot tea and waters. The restaurant was busy during the Holiday week but we did sit in one of their outdoor rooms which was pretty warm and cozy even with the cold rain outside. No doubt about the food it was delicious and the desserts, reservations were quick and easy. I rate this restaurant a 3 due to the service. I had a party of 6 and was seated in the back, maybe that was the reason for slow service.... we waited about 30 minutes to order and waited an hour for our food, reason being the kitchen made a mistake ‍, or maybe our order was not put in right away. Any who we were offered free desserts due to the confusion... we order 5 of them then the bill comes with the dessert charge. . But the manager took the desserts off the ticket. When our party of four entered, we were asked if we made reservations. We did not, but they had a couple of tables open. The server was nice and courteous, but not exactly friendly. We had the complementary bread, breadsticks and butter. The bread was a little greasy, the breadsticks were like long cheese-it crackers. My meatloaf, mashed potatoes and spinach were excellent. The other people had mahi mahi and pork chop medallions. They said it was very good. The only downside was my wife getting ill before dinner was served. When it comes to dining, Durango has a lot to offer. We surveyed the options and selected Ken & Sue's because the menu was diverse and you could order a decent meal without breaking the bank. I had the Mussels in coconut milk (w/bok choy) and my husband ordered the Pork Belly as appetizer. Both were excellent, full of flavor and well portioned. I might even try to duplicate the mussel recipe. For the main dish, I had the Chicken Caesar with bacon and avocado. It was fresh, tasty and more than I could eat in one sitting (lunch tomorrow!). Hubby ordered the boneless rib eye special and was very pleased with both the flavor and preparation; our server was happy to accommodate our carb-free preferences by substituting steamed spinach instead of the pasta (also nicely prepared and clearly fresh). The Prosecco I ordered was not that great so our server happily brought over a shot of Chambord to fix it.....what a gal! All in all, we were most happy with our restaurant choice. Pro Tip: Do not show up without a reservation, we saw several groups turned away on the Thursday night we were there. read more

We were sat in the back patio, which was ok, but I would recommend requesting the main dining room. Our server appeared to be either overwhelmed or unconcerned. As each part of our meal was late and we had to remind her of our appetizers, she grew increasingly casual and unconcerned about us, evidently writing off the tip therefore writing off any level of service. At other restaurants, on the rare times that we have had slow food, the server shows concern by alerting the manager who will then stop by or showing more attentiveness. She did neither. This is my new favorite! I personally think that it is hard to find, and not very well advertised. But it is the best! The food is beyond amazing, and the staff is even more so. It's a great atmosphere in the place, and we were seated and served like royalty within minutes of walking in. I had the best Southwestern Cobb Salad in the world, and the Molten Chocolate Cake was to die for. If you are EVER passing through Durango then you have to try Ken and Sue's. read more
