Sol is seriously the BEST mechanic/technician I've ever been to. He was so extremely helpful and very friendly. My check engine light had come on again for a problem I had fixed 6 months prior. Sol took the time (2 days!!) to help figure out what the problem was and got my car to pass SMOG. I came here because of the good Yelp reviews and because two years before I had been to the one in Richmond. I went on a Sunday afternoon, about 45 minutes before they closed and did not have to wait (they said they had a rush earlier). The guy helping me was friendly. He estimated it would take 20, 25 minutes and was correct. After my car passed smog I asked if he could explain the results to me (even though I had passed, I still wanted to know). He kindly took the time to do so, which was great. What I really liked was I went with my boyfriend who left his man bag in the passenger seat of the car throughout the smog test. We left the premises and realized this half way through our walk...from personal past experiences at car garages I thought there would be a chance it, or something from it, would be gone. When we got back and the car was done it had not been touched! It was nice to know that there are still decent people around. Although you might be able to find cheaper places, the level of customer service here (and trust) was great. Food: Bonus free snacks! Ambiance: Clean, friendly. Service was polite and the waiting room was nice, which is why I am giving two stars and not one. I had failed my first smog test there and they said to get the necessary work done and come back and they would re-test, free of charge. I returned after repairs and driving 250+ miles on the car, and having an expert mechanic re-examine the vehicle with a code reader to be sure it would pass, and he said it would. When I returned to 7 Days a Week Smog, they told me that the car would not pass because the code was still in the car code readings. I consulted my mechanic again about this, and he said that this was not true, the code was in the history and not an active code, and to go to another smog check facility. Upon doing so, I passed smog. So, while the service was polite, it was not capable service, and it was definitely a waste of my money. I now wonder if the original smog "Fail" was a mistake on their part since they did not understand how to read the history of my car codes. I wasted my money here and would not recommend it to others. read more

There was nobody there when I arrived and the two staff members immediately got my car going on the test. I mentioned Yelp for the $20 off coupon and they immediately knew what I was talking about. One guy started the test while the other got me set up with the basic paperwork. Then I sat in the waiting room with free wifi for about five minutes while they actually did it. One completed the test and the other went to get them both lunch... and even offered to get me something from Jack in the Box! So sweet. WTF!?! What's the point of a free retest if they do not want to give it to you. Ok, I hate to be the negative Nancy but this place doesn't tickle my fancy. I came here because of great reviews and recommendation from people but what I got is something different. I came here about a month ago to get my Z4 smogged, failed due to the "check engine light" was on. My own fault. Told me to get the light turned off and drive some miles to reset the computer and I did. I came for my retest and told me that my car was not ready and still need 40 miles. One week later I added about 90 miles on my car and today (7/30) I came in to get a retest, I was there 9 minutes before opening and then 5 mins later this white guy in a rice rocket (employee) and this old hag (customer) came. Once the gate opened they pretty much served the old hag first and came to me to get my paper works and key from me. As I wait for the guy to check my car they instead helped 3-4 cars after me. The guy helping me out decided to come out and "check my car". He gave me a bull pie response saying that I still need to drive more even though he did not go in my car and check at all. I told him the how I was told to drive 40 miles and I did and exceeded that but was told to drive more. Do I need to drive to freaking New York and back to get my retest done but even then i'm pretty sure they'll just refuse it. what this place needs...more employees, possibly an secretary, better chairs, cleaner facility. read more

Great staff and service. Adam Aladdin in particular was extremely helpful. Car did not pass on first try because computer had been reset just a few days prior due to check engine light servicing at dealership. He explained the issue, said to come back after driving about 100 miles and the computer would have enough data. I did, and it passed. And the re-test was free as advertised. He was super helpful in explaining and dealing with the issue. They also have a nice waiting area on a deck outside the station where you can sit, much nicer than the usual sterile waiting rooms at most places. Overall it is a very well run and organized outfit, when I'm due again in 2 years I know where to go. read more

The smog check is alright, yes they have drinks and crap in the waiting room. How very Berkeley of them. I received a smog check from this business on December Fourth, the year of our Lord MMXV. After passing the smog check, on the way home from the shop, in the nine whole miles from there to my place of residence, my poor old truck's cooling fan exploded, damaging numerous adjacent components including the radiator. I have very good reason to believe that a tool or other foreign object was left in my engine bay, and fell into the fan, causing it to shatter, because things like this do not happen for no reason. I attempted to collect compensation for the parts I would need to repair my truck (around $400) but was told I would have to talk to the owner, and that he would call me. I was never contacted by the owner until after the fourth call, three weeks later. He was incredibly condescending in the way he tried to explain the smog process (incorrectly) and after going back and forth with gathering tension, he told me that because I had signed a piece of paper to receive a smog check, that they were not liable for any damages that either were or were not a direct result of their actions as a company. Any auto shop worth their weight in shit would have stood behind their work and corrected a simple mistake, but no. Not this shop. Here I am writing a negative review on yelp like some kind of twerp because the owners of this company cannot own up to an employee's mistake. Welcome to the 21st Century. I would suggest a boycott at this point, but I know most people won't read this, or won't care because it's the cheapest place to get a smog check in the East Bay. Just bear in mind that the cheapest is almost never the best. read more

Not impressed. Their website says "Special Deal: Mention This Website for $20 OFF and FREE Re-Test!" Sweet! So I go and find that $20 off is still $59.99?! Plus, if your vehicle is older than 1995 they need to do an additional test at an additional cost of $15. The fees kept piling. Though to their credit they have an outdoor waiting area with magazines in the sun, and the guy was really nice. It's just too expensive. I got out of there and used a coupon at the nearby Berkeley's 15 Minute Smog at the 76 at University and 7th and was in and out of there in 10 minutes for $45 total, including certificate and free retest. read more

Amazing. Awesome. HONEST. Not words you usually use to describe a smog testing place but 7 Days a Week Smog Test fits that bill and more. After two failed smog tests and two other East Bay test facilities, both of which claimed my results were that I needed a new catalytic converter, I went to my guys at German Auto Sports (also awesome) and as I'm chatting with them about my dilemma in walks Scott from 7 Days a Week. He assists and tells me that looking at the numbers there's no way a new CC was needed, just simply that the car needed to be warmed up longer because it's old (a 1987 e30). Lo and behold, that was the truth. No extra costs, no extra parts, no BULLSHIT. To top it off their place is kick-ass. A mini-gym in the garage, a free snack and free internet room, a sweet outdoor lounge. I could have stayed that all day. I'm actually looking forward to coming back to these guys in two years when my car needs smog again. I can't ever recall saying that about a smog testing facility but these guys rock. read more

I found out about this place on Yelp and everyone was right. I think the customer service here was better then any i've had at spas or fine restaurants. They were great. I was in and out in 10 minutes even though there were two other customers ahead of me. I found a $20 off coupon through google so the price was $60. I couldn't find very many STAR certified places, especially on short notice (I procrastinated on my smog for registration). No appointment needed, which was convenient for me. Very fast (about 15 min), I went on a Tuesday around 2 pm. Super respectful & friendly. $20 off if u mention website/yelp. Only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars, is because of the cost. $49 with $20 off. A bit pricey. I found one in El Sobrante that was about the same with no coupon, but they were closed. So, I do believe the $20 off would not be necessary if they just charged a normal price. Still worked out though, can't complain. I will go back. Oh yes, they have a decent waiting room with free water, tea, coffee, snacks & computers. Or you can sit outside on a shaded patio. I felt very comfortable there. read more

I've been going to 7-Day-a-Week-Smog Test since I first called and asked whether they were open on Sat / Sun. ("Doh!") Okay, THAT never actually happened but I bet it has happened TOO many times. Let's face it, the average "consumer" doesn't read the fine print or often even the triple-underlined, highlighted and EMBOLDENED PRINT. The woderful thing about 7.D.A.W.S. is you can be the poster child for "_(Phll in da' blank)_" for DUMMIES©" and still drive outta there feeling like the savviest of consumers. I've been most cheerfully assisted by Scott the last 4 times I've gone in and if this guy's an employee instead of a de facto owner/partner then some "Art of the Deal" / "How to Win Friends and Influence People"-reading / Tony Robbins seminar junkie should clone him - quickly. He is pure gold. Sure, everything tangible about this place screams "Customer Service: Our #1 Priority!" but all it takes in a place like that is one sullen, underwhelmed cell-phone absorbed employee and -BAM!- all the clean, well-lighted, magazine- plush, snack filled, beverage serving, popcicle intimating (the sign says "Just ask!") waiting rooms (enclosed, ie no smog /fumes,) and shady outdoor 'veranda' with comfy patio sectional don't mean JACK Smack if the same credo ain't pumping through every atom of spinal fluid contained in the person assisting you. So I drive in, cold, no appointment, Scott's on the phone being effusively helpful, another guy's car has just passed smog & is magically pulled up, ready to drive out, Scott cordially greets me and directs me to park in one of clearly marked, numbered parking slots outside, and within a moment I'm standing at the service counter. There is no-one else working there. Within a space of 3 minutes (barely enough time for me to dig one of only 2 Werther's Original Caramels out of the big glass jar on the counter, next to an equally inviting jar of doggie biscuits "Woof!") Scott has wrangled the previous guy's paperwork, moved up his car, satisfied whomever was on the phone, adjusted his halo and taken me from "Hello. Are you guys offering any sorta Groupon/Living Social deal?" cuz frankly, I hadn't remembered them being $79.99, to "Thatll be $49.00 ('out-the-door'), please make yourself comfortable in the (as described above) waiting room and I'll get you in &.out as quickly as possble (sincere smile)," so deftly, so fast I didn't even have time take a couple of jabs at the heavy bag hanging between the service desk and the waiting room (oh, I think it's also climate-controlled cuz I went in the Summer once & recall it was quite pleasant, plus there are popcicles"). Getting back to the "savvy" part...no, they weren't currently offering a promo w/ either of above websites - BUT - and this is a major 'but,' he tells me, "Go to 'Smogtips' and it'll be $40 off ($49.00)." I'm like, "What's 'Smogtios'?" He's like, "A website." as I'm trying to quickly "catch up " to him. I asked again, explaining I don't like to say "Yes" to things I'm not totally clear on, thinking I've gotta reslgister, sign up for the 7,000th email newsletter from which I haven't time to unsubscribe, but this really was a no-brainer sitch, not even requiring the calories of a "Yes/No" mini-dilemma. I know when to shut up and nod (usually) and I did. It's just a "Mention my name" type of deal, no registration, code, organ donation or "Secret woid." (That's "woid," not "word," said the cigar-smoking moustachioed duck of yore.) Honestly, I think 7DAWS will probably be HAPPY I've shared this "insider info" cuz it might cut another 15 seconds off of their turn-around time per customer. EVEN BETTER service! Ultimately I barely had time to smirk at all the photos in a Feb People Mag of the glitterati at the Sag Awards before outta the corner of my eye I catch sight of my car rolling up right in front of the door to the waiting room. (Wait a minute...did he DETAIL IT too? No, but somehow it still looked shinier than when I pulled in. Could have been the impact his excellent Cust. Svc. had on me.) I don't know why anyone would go anywhere else, competitor's coupon / promo or not. These guys are super efficient, professional, dialed in w/ DMV both literally and in terms of knowing things like how offen www.DMV.ca/gov refreshes their online registration system so I wouldn't inadvertently put the cart before the horse, (or the registration pmt before the electronic transmission of the "pass" certification) resulting, undesirably, in a potential delay in getting your renewal stickers by a week or more (cuz it gets flagged as "Incomplete Reg," generating add'l notice, etc). If ever there was a business I would recommend without ANY hesitation this is it. read more

It's hard not to be aware of this business. There is an older woman out on the curb waving a sign to get your attention. That had always turned me off, but I needed a smog and turned in after reading the reviews. Very delightful young woman met me at my car as i parked. I sat in a comfortable area outside, read my book and was on the way in 15 minutes -- as promised. I wish I had more cars. read more

My car failed smog check, and I'm still giving these guys 5 stars. They were fast, friendly, and efficient from the moment I walked in. They started to check my car, and found they couldn't get a reading because I had a leak in my exhaust. They stopped the test, told me the problem, and didn't charge me. I'll be taking my car back to 7 Days a Week Smog Check once it's fixed. They also do free re-tests, and will give you a discount if you mention their website. read more

Well run, fast, convenient, clean and there are two internet computers. Can't get too much better than this as far as smog experiences go.

The problem I have with this place is that it only does smog checks and that's it. My car required a small adjustment in timing, which it doesn't do and so I had to go elsewhere and it cost me an extra $55. The price of the smog check was on the high side as well. Someone commented the waiting area is really nice, but there is not much to write home about except it is clean and you get free cheese flavored biscuits and coffee there, if you like that sort of thing. I will try to look for alternative locations next time. read more
