Lakeside Cafe was our go to breakfast stop while visiting Muskegon! My table ordered serval of the local favorites and were not disappointed. Everything tasted great at a price that was easy to swallow. Moreover, the portions are HUGE! The pancakes were bigger than my hand. This diner had a laid-back atmosphere with the friendliest staff. We visited this place on our getaway for our 31st wedding anniversary. The food was amazing.. food was so good. We ate breakfast one day came back for lunch the next day.. the service was great. This is such an unexpected find super close to our air b&b! The food was great, everything was delicious, service was lovely. It is not super sleek or trendy, and seats are a little worn but if you are there for good food in a diner like atmosphere- this is perfect! We really enjoyed the southern omelette and Belgian waffle with strawberries and cream. The kids loved their ham and cheese omelette. Everything was very reasonably priced (even cheap!) and we were surprised that they also use local ingredients. We were impressed and they got our business a second time as we visited. read more

Lakeside Cafe is a gem. In the course of one weekend we ate breakfast/lunch there twice. Service was engaged, funny, efficient, and kind. A real: come as you are, we treat everybody like family here. The food was amazing. The biscuits are truly remarkable; the sourdough bread is delightful (all baked in house). Portions are large and creative, and fully customizable. I could have easily eaten 7-8 other items on the menu. Prices are more than reasonable for the value delivered. Traditional diner type restaurant. I enjoyed the decor featuring local art. Modest, quiet, both of which I like. Food was very good, home made bread excellent, prices reasonable. The waitress told me they have a Friday night fish fry which I would like to try next time I am in the neighborhood! Came here on a Saturday morning to nurse a hangover. Needless to say, this place should be called "hair of the dog". It cured my Irish flu almost instantly. It was very delicious. I always check out yelp before I go places to see what I should get since I'm terribly indecisive. I read a lot of reviews on the stuffed hashies. I'm happy I followed suit. Those were yummy yummy in my tummy. I think I read that they make their own bread, which is a plus. Not really a toast guy (bad incident with a toaster as a kid) but the whole wheat here is great. read more

Wait was almost 30 minutes and they said 25 so that was fine. But when I ordered waitress said kitchen was 30 minutes backed up. So waited over another 30 minutes to get my food. Food was good, not great. Four stars are generous. I would not return. read more

Food was awesome. Highly recommend their corned beef and the poutine. We got great service as well and quick refills on our coffee (wish I'd caught our waitress's name, she was great). It was nice and quiet in the restaurant as well, music and conversation of other tables wasn't overwhelming despite being a smaller space. Went to Lakeside Cafe tonight at 7:30 they close at 8 p.m. Walked in the server clearing off tables yelled we close at 8. Stood there for 5 minutes another server comes from the back getting menus she says we close at 8 as we are walking to a table. The place is empty except for my husband and I. As we sat down she asked us what we wanted to drink I said Coke my husband wanted coffee they didn't have any coffee by this time it is a quarter to 8. Needless to say we didn't get any dinner there. Ended up at Arby's 1.8 mi from the house. Drove there ate drove home was in the house at 8:25 p.m. If you don't want to serve people past 7:30 then maybe you should close at 7 instead of 8. This is so close to my home but I will not be back. Don't want to inconvenience anyone to wait on me. Update Manager reached out. Taking care of the situation . No problem with the food it is awesome. Very flattering dishes come out of the kitchen. Just need to fine tune people skills a little bit. It is a very nice place to dine. read more

I stopped for lunch on a Tuesday and the place was busy. I was seated at the counter and the server came right over and took my drink order. I asked her which hot sandwich she would recommend, and she said Turkey so that's what I went with. My food came right out, and everything looked good. The bread was homemade and thick cut, and the turkey was shredded. The mashed potatoes tasted homemade because they were a little lumpy. The only thing I really didn't care for was the gravy and potatoes together. I know it sounds crazy, but when I tried the turkey and bread with the gravy, everything tasted good. When I ate the potatoes and gravy together, for some reason, it tasted a bit sour. I ate some of the potatoes without the gravy and they tasted good. I cannot explain this, but it's what it was. The server asked if I liked my meal because my potatoes were left, and I told her the story. She brought me my check and had discounted it because of what happened. I told her that I didn't want that, I wanted to pay full price because it didn't make sense, and everything looked so good. She insisted and reduced my ticket. I added the discounted food price to my tip.  This place is really clean and very well kept. The food really did look and as far as the turkey, tasted great. If I am ever back in town, I would stop here again to give them another chance as they had a very extensive menu. We got stuck in Muskegon when our ferry ride to Milwaukee was cancelled due to weather concerns. Took us three days to get another booking on the ferry (should have just driven around the lake, but we were set on the ferry; next time driving for sure). Anyway, we found Lakeside Cafe by accident while exploring Muskegon, trying to find the best way from our motel to the ferry landing. Just our place! Small "mom&pop" diner, been around for a dog's life (used to be something else with a Danish name, near as we can figure). Staff is cheerful and helpful (especially Sarah [Hi, Sarah! It's the map people!]). Good standard diner fare, with a few personal touches (try the Lakeside Mess or the Coney Island Hamburger). If we come over on the ferry in future we'll definitely be stopping in. Maybe try the Thursday night meatloaf dinner. read more

A great following for this cafe. Indoor or outside seating is available. The staff is extremely friendly and right there with water or coffee refills. There is menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner at very affordable pricing. A typical breakfast items. The only comment I can make is the plate size pancake is very thin. I would rather have a smaller pancake that is thicker. The tables have cream, jam and almost any extras that you may need. Definitely worth a stop for a home cooked meal. read more

This is a great little cafe! The kind of a place that makes you feel like a local, even if you aren't. Customer service is great and kids are so welcome. We got: - oatmeal - ultimate stuffed hash browns - and a southern omelette. I will say that my husband did start out with the steak & eggs instead of the omelette. But his medium rare steak turned out more extra well done, and the server spotted it and dealt with it quickly and fabulously. While the steak was a no from us, everything else was delicious! Their rye & sourdough toasts are not to be missed. Coffee's good too. Great little cafe open 7 days a week. We loved it! read more

This place is a (now-not-so) hidden gem! I've been eating here since it was "Mike's Landing" ....& still returning. This is a no-frills place. That said, their food is really very good! Some dishes are yummier than others but truly you cannot go wrong with anything you order. I highly recommend any of the yummy specials on the board (behind the counter on left as you walk in). Their American fries, I love (I always ask for "seasoning & crispy plz&thx"). They have the most delicious homemade raisin bread (we wish it had some cinnamon in it but still - it is so very gooood!)! My only "bother" is that they only have one option for hot teas. The service is spectacular! We've never experienced bad service here, in all the years! They've recently upgraded the parking lot so no more pot holes/craters/sink holes (haha) & there are fresh yellow lines for parking spots -woohoo! As long as this place remains open, we will remain return-guests (mostly seasonal, but during winter, on occasion)! YES! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Fresh off the 6:00 am ferry from Milwaukee, we stopped in for some breakfast fuel before trekking across the great state of Michigan. Lakeside offers all of your standard breakfast fare (pancakes, waffles, eggs/meat and omelettes), and in a home cooking atmosphere. It's not knock-your-socks-off good, but the staff is friendly, the food is served up quick, and it is pretty decent breakfast grub. The homemade toasted bread was especially tasty--I'm pretty sure there some sort of addictive substance in the butter (so good). If you are looking for a quick morning meal, Lakeside is certainly worth a go. read more

Covid Lakeside Cafe managed to offer take out during this hard time. When they reopened they had remodeled their dining area creating a beautiful Muskegon Lake Michigan beach vibe. I've also come to realize this cafe has the BEST turkey club in town. I've tried them all! Hands down they got it right with the shaved turkey, crisp bacon and what tops all the rest is your choice of HOMEMADE BREAD!!! I prefer sour dough. Best sandwich in town!!!! read more

Our first time here and it was great. It was quite busy and it is seat yourself which is the only thing we were not overly enthused about. The guys had the ultimate stuffed hash browns and both really enjoyed them. I had the BLT on grilled white bread and crinkle fries, it was delicious. Our server was sweet and friendly. We heard from some locals this was a good place to get breakfast and it certainly has some amazing qualities but also had some drawbacks food wise. The biscuits and gravy are awesome. If that's your thing definitely get it. They have a fruit bar for about 4 bucks that was so fresh and delicious. The American fries are home made and yummy. Toast is thick cut and tasty. The only negative for me was the omelettes. American cheese is their filler and it is not the best. :( You can substitute feta or mozzarella but no cheddar apparently. Service is slow but friendly and it is a good place to get breakfast very close to the lakes. read more

The Lakeside Cafe always has excellent service whether it be dine in or take out. A lot of times, I choose to call in and order on my way home from work and it's always on time (10-15 minutes). The staff is always prompt and friendly. The omelettes are always full of flavor (never dry) and the toast is always reasonably buttered. read more
