I'd like to offer an opinion on the quality of the food, but it seems impossible to actually place an order. I called up this past friday at 9 pm to get some late dinner, and was immediately placed on hold. after almost (exactly) 10 minutes i gave up and called back. immediate hold again. tried 15 minutes later. immediate hold. i gave up for good at that point. how is it possible that someone can be available to pick the phone up on the first ring every single time, but be unable to take an order ? or even say "sorry, please call back in 30 mins, we're swamped at the moment" ? or anything besides "please hold". so i haven't ordered from here in awhile. last time food was lacking in flavor. but seeing as how my normal delivery place was closed i went with 7th ave donuts. in the notes for the brisket of beef hot open sandwich i simply asked for no onions on gravy. the salad no peppers or olives. as a cook i know these are added in when ordered. i can't tell if the cook didnt read notes or did it on purpose, but this entire meal was horrible. even the soda was hot. Brisket if you could call it that was dry and tasteless, gravy on side. they even over did the fries. For the amount they charge the least that can be done is look at the notes. After leaving a party with friends, we went to another diner which was considerably worse in terms of customer service, and left. Wandering around and using Google maps, we found this place. We were warmly greeted, sat immediately at a clean table, and received menus. The service far surpassed the other 24/7 diners in all of Brooklyn, esp after midnight. The waitress laughed with us and other customers and really made everyone feel welcome and taken care of. With the abundance of donut shops in NYC. I would say this was standard and on par with dunkin donuts. The old fashioned i felt was a bit too drenched in oil as one bite you can taste that oil flavor on the back of your mouth. With the glazed i thought it was overly too sweet and the yeast donut was not airy at all but tended to be dry. It's a no frills kind of place and very standard. I walked in. An employee asked to see my vaccination card. Good sign. I showed it to him. Then I said "Let me get my ID" and he replied "No, don't worry about it." Bad sign. As I sat down, I looked at the servers. Three kept their masks on properly, but two had their masks hanging under their mouths. So three good things, and two bad things. If I had to pick one word to describe the job that this place does in terms of keeping their customers safe from Covid, it would be "mixed." So I'll give this place three stars. read more

I didn't get any donuts! The food isn't mindblowingly anything, but seriously is it CHEAP. A good 2-3 dollars less than the Purity nearby, per entree. Considering my love for diners and the wallet that can't keep up, this was a great find. The surprising price, especially for being right on 7th Ave in Park Slope, is worth an extra star in itself. The food is average diner food.. no more greasy or gross than any diner food anywhere else (okay fine, just a little bit greasier). Just skip anything where freshness is key (salads, seafood, anything with lots of cream). The burgers? They were fine. Fries were good ol' pre-frozen deliciousness. This sounds gross, but they use the kind where the saltiness is processed into the fry before freezing, instead of sprinkling salt on later. It's kinda yummy. The hot sauce is notably crappy but I've been spoiled by restaurants providing Cholula instead of this bright red stuff in a squirt bottle. CASH ONLY, and they're open 24 hours. Do not expect any ambiance. And do not look at the awful food photos on the wall; they will just suck away your appetite. Seriously they are a little bit shameful. My boyfriend C and I decided to visit and taste four different Brooklyn Donut shops in one day without going into a sugar coma. This was our first stop. Before we got there we decided to rate our experience on several criteria: 1) Presentation (everyday or chic?); 2) Cost-Value (is the price equivalent to the experience/taste); 3) Donut type (cake: moist or no? yeast: doughy or gummy?); 4) Dunkability--can it survive C's test of dunking into whatever hot drink he had? 5) would it become our new favorite place? But the service was horrible. It seems incredible when I think about it but I passed this place perhaps hundreds of times over the years and never went in. Eventually there came a point recently where I decided not to go for a cafe or one of the newly opened Asian restaurants in the area and instead chose to check out this neighborhood staple. Donut Shop & Luncheonette is a rare breed in Park Slope nowadays. It's not flashy or glitzy or even modern. Instead it's an old fashioned diner with leather cushions in the booths, a counter on the side and a section for donuts in the front. In many ways it feels like a time machine going back into the late 80's/early 90's. I ordered a Turkey burger with Sweet Potato Fries and it was good. The burger was moist and a really good size. Not a ton of flavor so it needed more seasoning (some pepper and ketchup took care of that). The fries were nice and crisp. I'll say this, they gave me enough tomato and lettuce for two burgers so I was impressed. I tried a chocolate donut and the texture was not cake-like, but instead it was light and sweet but not overly sweet. I would get it again for sure. This isn't gourmet food, but the service is good, the food is good and it's a calm environment. I'll definitely visit again. read more

This morning after the gym I went with one of my buddies to 7th Avenue Donuts. I had not been here In years and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. It is a legit diner! The restaurant is clean, the food is good, the service is friendly and the prices are about as reasonable as you can get in Park Slope and still pay your rent! We had very good coffee and English muffins then split one of their homemade whole wheat donuts. Hmmm...the ying and the yang....healthy whole wheat cooked in oil. Actually the donut was not bad in spite of its healthy component! One warning, some of their booths must have been custom made for Twiggy (remember her), because they are tiny...but they do a big takeout business and do have larger booths and stools at the counter. I am hardly qualified to review this restaurant, as I only visited it once in passing and only ate a single French cruller. I'll tell you what I know: that cruller looked good enough in the window to draw me in from the street even though I had just eaten a huge brunch. It had that nice mix of crispness on the outside and almost-wet softness on the inside that a proper French cruller should have. A very plain white icing added necessary sweetness, but not much in the way of flavor. I finished it in less than a minute while admiring the restaurant's nifty sign, and then continued on my merry way. I would definitely try another donut here the next time I am in Brooklyn. In terms of pure dining experience, it may literally be impossible to do worse than getting your pastry manhandled by a 49-year-old ex con with a runny nose and three years of delinquent child support payments at a Manhattan coffee cart. These are not the type of donuts you would get a place like Dough (which are also excellent) so don't expect exotic flavors, but if you like old fashioned cake-style donuts, this is the place for you.
